This is fun! I always love it when Paula and Michael are on, and a contest just makes it that much better! I don't roll my dumplings. My granny taught me to make them a wetter dough that just drops in by spoonful's. They come out like a biscuit, light and fluffy. It is sort of like eating biscuits and gravy. YUM! Chicken and Dumplings is the only thing Cracker Barrell makes that I don't like. The rolled dumplings are more like a noodle...and I'm a biscuit gal..lol. Looking forward to seeing how Michael cooks his!
My husband’s Polish grandmother made dumpling for her chicken soup. She used flour, water, and an egg, and dropped just a spoonful into the soup. They were delicious. I will try Paula’s recipe for comparison.
Drop dumplings are the best! My mom made them and that’s how I make them. Cracker Barrel does the rolled dumplings and I eat them, but I’d prefer the drop. My son loves chicken & dumplings and I have to make a double or triple batch when he’s around. 🤣 🐓
You make this just like my grandmother did. We called them "slicks" instead of dumplings. These are SO much better to me than the thick biscuit drop style ones. Love this old timey way of making them.
Love you Paula, you and Michael are such characters! Going to watch your husband 's video now! You both are the best!! Really enjoy your You Tube channel! Hope you guys are having a great week! All the best from Cape Breton:)
You all make what we in the North call chicken noodle soup. Those are broad or wide noodles. We add cream to the base of the soup and drop wet biscuit type sticky dough into the soup. I flavor my dumplings with garlic powder and dried parsley.
I'm big fan of yours and have been for years. You taught me how to make chicken and dressing years ago. I have many of your cookbooks. I love and support you always Paula. ❤️
I have your easy chicken and dumplings on save because my husband loves chicken and dumplings? He grew up in Minnesota and did not grow up eating it but he loves it ❤ So thank you and you and your hubby remind me of my husband and myself, we tease too
I think every family has their own traditions of making chicken & Dumplings or as my mom called em Noodles. These were a special occasion dish for us and only on Thanksgiving & Christmas. In our family we have continued to make them exactly how they’ve been done for generations. Thank you for this it took me back a bit to us girls standing around the counter helping mom make the noodles. What a great memory ❤ Good luck to you both wish I was there to taste test each😁
yumm... I have always rinsed my chicken for the last 23 years and never had an issue.. I also use whole chicken for my dumplings . I put it in my stove top pressure cooker..my mother in law is from Pennsylvania .. they make the traditional Chicken pot pie..which is like dumplings and veggies and rue they also make a Slippery Beef pot pie which is dumplings, chuck roast and carrot celery onion .. . the one baked in crust is called a Chicken Stew pie.. I never knew the difference until I learned from their Penn/ Dutch side..
my mother in law had a BLue Macaw they had gotten him/ her at the Mall pet store where my brother in law worked in the early 90's, When I would go to the mall , I always stopped by to see Baby the Bird . Then later on in 1999, I met my husband..I was at his house and saw a huge bird cage and I heard "Hola Mi Amor:.. I said to my husband , who is that ? He said Oh that is my mom's bird Baby.. I saw him.. It was Baby from the Mall pet store. My brother in law said that , he bought Baby because they were about to send her to another store. It was so odd that Baby was connected to me in that way.. I always saw him and said Hola mi amor.. he would repeat it everytime i saw him.. I ended up marrying my husband in Feb 14 2003 . Baby was around me for that long.. all these years we thought baby was boy...that is what the previous owner said.. In 2007, I had our daughter via c section on the 17th Oct 2007.. my original due date was the 24th.. My mother in law had already returned home that day , she noticed there was an egg on the bottom of the cage immediately removed it.. That is how we found out Baby was a girl on my daughter';s original due date.. It is so amazing how situations can connect to you in life.. I always tell this story because my years with Baby had a big impact in my life.. I miss her so much and we had the best memories together ..She passed away two years later after they moved back to Texas.
leyley1970 --.Have always rinsed my chicken, as my mother did. It. Last year I read some so called good information frm a Bacteriologist, that could of been deadly to me! He said to package chicken without washing it and also to cook it that way. So. I froze & cooked it that way. Fortunately, As I was leary of this way, I only ate a tiny amount. Low & behold I got mildly sick to my stomache!( Threw the rest of food out & went back to rinsing my chicken again! The reason was bad for me, I am 70 yr old & could've gotten a deadly case of Salmonella! Don't ever do this!) I 'll think twice before I will listen to an expert again!
Hopefully, there will be a part 2 to this video. I am looking forward to seeing how Michael makes his Chicken and Dumplings. I wouldn't under estimate him. 😊
Paula, I'm gay and I love you! Your house seasoning is excellent. Your soup pot was the best i ever had! 20 years and i had to retire it- but that lid is still with me. And your smashed-baked potato casserole (with the dash Accent!) steals the show every time!
❤Mrs. Paula Deen, I’ll be going to your restaurant on Monday at the Branson location. I’m sure looking forward to seeing you, God-willing!😊. Even if I don’t, it sure will be nice being there!!!😊🎉. May the Lord bless you!
My grandmother from Kentucky made chicken & dumplings (biscuit like dough). I moved to Carolina when I was a teenager (over 30 years ago). We make chicken & pastry (flat dough). The names are often used interchangeably and I like 'em both (when I'm the one making 'em). My own family always expects chicken & pastry, and I make mine just like Ms. Paula.
I am from N.C. The more eastern part of the state is Chicken and Pastry. Piedmont and western part of the state is Chicken and Dumplin's..I don't care for that dish no matter what it's called. 😃🤣😂
I use self rising flour, butter, poultry seasoning and garlic in my dumplings as well as a little milk. I like to rill mine out and cut with a pozza cutter, but I dont roll very thin. Like them just a little thicker.
Up in the north we like fluffy dumplings. I like to cool the stock. Use the fat to cook some celery onions and carrots real fine dice. And it always needs some chicken bouillon. Unless you can get an older chicken that makes the most flavorful stock. Hard to find if not near impossible. And then drop spoonfuls onto the chicken and stock. Also add chicken wings to make the stock more flavorful. Some sweat by chicken feet for better flavor.
I’ve been waiting for this show down for a long time!! Miss Paula, yours looks delicious. I can’t wait to see Michael make his. May the best man or woman win!! I’m rooting for you.
Yall are the cutest couple. My aunt used to make chicken and dumplings and she made her own dumplings and put some of the broth in the dough. I use Anne's Frozen dumplings and they are good but not like the homemade dumplings. I am cooking a chicken breast in the crock pot and I will have some dumplings next week. I buy 2 breasts with the bone and cook one and the other in the crock pot then I will have several meals out of the chicken breasts. I am going to BBQ one of them for Sunday. You can cook chicken so many ways. I can't wait to see Michael cooking his. You could put all the ingredients from both your recipes and really have a fantastic recipe for chicken and dumplings. I love to see Michael in the kitchen with you. Thank you Paula for sharing this very cute contest.
GOOD LUCK "What's ur name!!" 🤣 Good Luck Ms Paula. I had planned on making this this weekend we are all connected I guess LOL. Im cooking enough to make chicken salad also. I'm baking my leg quarters for more flavor and texture 💖❤️🧡💛💝✌️🦋🐞💋
When do we find out the winner? I’m voting for you Miss Paula! My Mother used to make her own noodles, they looked like your Southern dumplings,(she was from the mid west) .I would come home after school and see them drying on the kitchen table and knew the great dinner we would have that night! ❤ break a leg Paula (metaphorically speaking)❣️
Looks very yummy, Paula. When my Mom did chicken and dumping, she used biscuits and cream with salt, black, and chicken stock. How want to chicken and dumping now. Thanks for sharing Paula with your recipe. I hope that you and your family, friends, and your pets have a safe, blessed day. Stay warm, y'all. God bless you ❤ I enjoy watching you and Michael having a fun cook-off.😊
Hey the way he makes chicken salad the way he squeezes a chicken oil out if I remember that right I started doing that and it makes a world of a difference how the chicken salad taste
Are we going to get to see Michael make his dumplings? I’m sure you will win. I love that hidden item. My Mama always added that and I add it to mine, too.
I've got 2 pots on the stove right now. We have about 3 inches of snow today. Soo I might as well cook up something good. I'll freeze some quart size bags for another day.😮
Looking forward to the tasting contest! One question Paula: Celery can be so dirty, but it’s much easier to chop the whole bunch at once. How do you clean it before chopping it?
Around the same time that the public was advised to stop washing chicken, the chicken industry started 'washing' all our chicken in a chlorine bath! So, that made me START washing the chicken. Even better, brine it over night and you will be shocked at how much comes out of the chicken! Seriously, try it.
My mother was a great cook. She always made the dumplings dough by the spoonful too. Like a biscuit. Hope Michael doesn't do it that way. I want you to win Paula. Love ya.
Wēll, Y💛U Know you Right Child, why wash 🧽 🐓 When she gon in that Heat anyways ! Baby ,it do BE cold 🥶 Dumplings 🥟 do you good girl. #Savanah IS my Sistah y’all… she always tryin to steal my Man. But, She ain’t Cook like I do 🧈Hunnay 🍯
My grandma told me to not wash my chicken before cooking it. She said it’s going to be cooked until 165 degrees so everything will be killed so you can’t get sick.
Y'all place your bets! Who do you think is gonna win?
The ingredients in your chicken and dumplings are way more flavorful and the homemade dumplings are a nice touch, so I’m betting that you will win! 🏆🥇
You will win of course!
Paula

My dough is wetter too & I also drop my dough. The dumplings are so fluffy & delicious!

Paula please let us know who wins
I spoon drop mine to. I also add black pepper to my mix. My family loves them because they are huge dumplings.
You make this just like my grandmother did. We called them "slicks" instead of dumplings. These are SO much better to me than the thick biscuit drop style ones. Love this old timey way of making them.
You and your husband should do more of these cook off competitions! This is so entertaining and exciting! ❤
Love you Paula, you and Michael are such characters! Going to watch your husband 's video now! You both are the best!! Really enjoy your You Tube channel! Hope you guys are having a great week! All the best from Cape Breton:)

I've been ready for this for so long!!!! This is more exciting than any sports competition I've seen!!

I think Michael is the very best! His chicken and dumplings looked cleaner and more flavorful❤.

Yum, looks delish. Absolutely Paula, it won't be a authentic Paula Deen dish without Butter. Thank you.
Chicken base and garlic salt are the "secrets" to mine but I have never added butter! Best believe I will from now on!
I use self rising flour, butter, poultry seasoning and garlic in my dumplings as well as a little milk. I like to rill mine out and cut with a pozza cutter, but I dont roll very thin. Like them just a little thicker.
This is such a chuckle. I love Paula and Michael’s chemistry. We need more videos of them together. Look forward to seeing who wins the cook-off!

I always put carrots in my chicken n dumplings. Gives it some color plus tastes good!

Good luck with your chicken n dumplings! You’re the best Paula. Michael has to step up his game to beat you.❤
I just watched Michael's video and I think you are going to win!! Can't wait to see which one everyone votes for at the restaurant!!!
Chicken and dumplings, one of my favorite dishes. I always make my dumplings from scratch.
Are we going to get to see Michael make his dumplings? I’m sure you will win. I love that hidden item. My Mama always added that and I add it to mine, too.
She wins by default because he cheated with his dumplings 😂
Oh, I hope you win, Paula! Have you even considered wearing an apron over your beautiful tops? Love your shows!!
I use my moms dumpling recipe..flour water eggs season the flour well...the dumpling are like little bricks!! But so full of flavor!!
Michael is hilarious. 😂😂😂😂
I agree Miss Paula with you on the wet bases. Timesavers and the taste is very good. I don't salt at all when I use one of the flavored wet bases.
I've got 2 pots on the stove right now. We have about 3 inches of snow today. Soo I might as well cook up something good. I'll freeze some quart size bags for another day.😮
Looks good paoula a look forward to Michael's
Fun competition!
Oh yeah. "Chicken and slicks". One of my very favorite foods. You done yourself proud with that pot of goodness right there.
I always add celery seed carrots and celery, salt and pepper.
Looking forward to the tasting contest! One question Paula: Celery can be so dirty, but it’s much easier to chop the whole bunch at once. How do you clean it before chopping it?
She did not. Not did she wash or destring it. And she did not strain her watery broth.
And the winner is Paula 🏆😍🥣
😅🤣😆👏🏼👏🏼 Ooo the butter is what makes it!
PAULA DEEN YOUR BEST COOKER EVER SO I LOVE WAY YOU COOK THE BEST DISHES LOVE DAVID😀🥰😀🥰🥰🥰🥰

Love ya.

Have you ever tried using a metal pasta machine to roll out the dumplings?
Good luck Michael
Momma always used a little shortening in her dumplins. we do drop dumplins though.

My grandma told me to not wash my chicken before cooking it. She said it’s going to be cooked until 165 degrees so everything will be killed so you can’t get sick.
Exactly 💯 percent 😊
Wash that chicken Paula lol 😂
Will we get to see Michael make his on the next video?
I prefer the white meat on the chicken so I buy the breast to make chicken and dumplings.
