More than two billion people-approximately one-third of all humanity-claim to be Christian, a religion that takes its name from Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ and Son of God, according to the Bible. But here’s a strange question that almost seems silly until you take the time to really think about it: Is Jesus Himself a Christian? Today, we’re going to tackle that question together, and we’ll discover that the answer is far more revealing that you might think. Join us here on Tomorrow’s World as we answer the question “Is Jesus a Christian?”
Greetings, and welcome to Tomorrow’s World, where we help you make sense of your world through the pages of the Bible.
Now I know our title seems unusual today. After all, if anyone can be described as a Christian, surely it is Jesus Christ, the very founder of Christianity! The answer seems obvious! However, I am certain that you will find that that simple question leads to other intriguing questions-and to intriguing answers-that reveal far more about Jesus, the Bible, and Christianity than you might have guessed.
Today, we’re asking the question, “Is Jesus a Christian?” And I hope you don’t think I’m asking the question to either make light of Christianity or Jesus Christ. I’m not. Here at Tomorrow’s World, all of us believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, who died for our sins, rose again three days and three nights later, and lives now, guiding His Church from Heaven-the Savior whose return and reign is getting closer day by day.
In fact, it is because we take Jesus Christ and His teachings seriously that we ask this question today: “Is Jesus Christ a Christian?”
Most of us know Christians in our lives-many of us believe we ARE Christians. In fact, as we mentioned at the very beginning of our program today, more than TWO BILLION people claim to be Christians today-literally almost one-third of humanity. The influence of the religion going by the name of “Christianity” touches every continent on the globe, and its principles and precepts have impacted governments, cultures, and traditions all over the world.
Of course, the details about what “Christianity” means vary from place to place, culture to culture-and, in some towns, even street to street, as the church on one block may teach a very different set of doctrines than the church just one block down.
Still, most of us have personal experience that gives us a sense of what the word “Christian” means in real life, based on the beliefs, practices, and lives of those we know-or even own.
So, with that in mind, is Jesus a Christian? That is, if Jesus were walking among us today-as He did in the flesh 2,000 years ago-but you did not know ahead of time that He WAS Jesus Christ, would you conclude that He was a Christian? If you compared HIS beliefs, practices, and life with the beliefs, practices, and lives of those who make up “Christianity” today, what would you conclude? How would Jesus “measure up”? Would you believe He was a Christian, or would you conclude that He belonged to some other faith-a different religion entirely?
We don’t have to guess the answer to this question. Jesus answers it for us! The Bible is, in a very real way, His book! From its first page to its last, He inspired its writing through the Holy Spirit, and His teachings are perfectly recorded within its pages. We can know what He believed and practiced, because the record of His life on earth has been preserved for us faithfully for almost 2,000 years, as have the teachings and practices of His very first disciples-personally trained by Him to represent Him to the world.
For the remainder of today’s program, we will examine the beliefs and practices of Jesus Christ and compare them to the beliefs and practices most common among Christians today-and in answering the question “Is Jesus a Christian?” we will let Jesus speak for Himself.
Since we have the perfect record of His beliefs, teachings, and practices. So let’s ask some questions and compare what Jesus Christ did and thought to what we see in the beliefs and practices of modern Christianity, today.
    First, let’s look at holidays.
Christians around the world vary in the days they keep sacred, but there is a large consensus around some days, such as Christmas in the winter and Easter in the Spring. While these days are often described as a celebration of Jesus’ birth and resurrection, respectively, it is also a fact of history that both days derive from and are adorned with pagan practices and traditions-trappings associated with heathen gods and goddesses and pagan cultures, some of which predate Christianity by many centuries.

Modern Western laws are NOT based on Biblical values, otherwise slavery would still be a moral practice. Jesus & Bibles' authors believed slavery is moral & suggested how to buy, sell & beat the slaves, and not to treat relatives the way slaves are treated. No Bible verse suggests slavery is immoral. Secular thinking ended slavery after about 1800 years of Biblical values failure. Jesus & authors of Bible believed slavery is moral & even suggested how to buy, sell & beat the slaves, and not to treat relatives the way slaves are treated. Not a single Bible verse suggests that slavery is immoral & should be abolished.

As a Persian I do know that Christmas comes from a pagan celebration from the religion of Mithraism practiced in ancient Persia. And Christmas is not the birthday of Jesus Christ at all !. However doesn't matter how much I discuss it with my wife , she still says it's a good time to introduce Jesus to others. I wonder why Jesus can't be introduced to others in the other days !. The green plastic tree made in china also in our house and in our church which claims is a full gospel church.
I also suggest that maybe it's a good idea to bring a message about Jesus Christ teaching about the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for this. Excellent program as always. I have a question, if i may:
    .
How do we explain/what do we say to people when mentioning that the dietary laws about clean/unclean food, agricultural laws, and some other stuff like the debts being cancelled after 7 years and the 10% tithe are still important? They don't seem to be covered by the 10 Commandments, but when we say that God commanded these, people will then mention the 613 Laws from the OT, and it unnecessarily turns into a discussion of Law being important versus Law being done away.
    .
Thank you again and God bless you.

    • @TomorrowsWorld
      @TomorrowsWorld  2 роки тому +3

Good question. Here are a few points to help answer it. Many of God's commandments, laws, and statutes were in place before the "law of Moses" (Genesis 26:5). Jesus said He didn't come to destroy the law and that not "one jot or one tittle" would pass from the law (Matthew 5:17-19). Jesus said people should tithe (Matthew 23:23). Peter still had not eaten any unclean animal even after Jesus' death (Acts 10:14), and there isn't one example in the whole Bible of one of God's servants eating an unclean animal. These are a few verses showing that some OT laws are still required, even physically, for Christians. On the other hand, other Scriptures show that some laws are not physically required, such as laws dealing with the temple (a Christian's body is now the temple (1 Cor. 6:19-20)), animal sacrifices (Christ is the ultimate sacrifice (Heb. 7:27; etc.), and circumcision (Acts 15). Please see this article that explains more details: members.lcg.org/lcn/2019/may-june/one-way-know-god-better

This one of the simplest and best explanation I've heard; thank a lot. I do have a comment and a question.
My understanding is the 10 commandments are a summary of the 613 commandment.
I aware that some of the commandment are foe the temple and priest. There is no temple so we don't have to keep those.
Some are for men only. So the women don't have to keep them
Some are for women so the men don't have to keep them
Some are for the treatment of slave and servants. We don't have slaves but we have employees.
    Wearing tzitzits
    Following His agricultural guidelines
    and so on.
Here is my question. Do christians need to wear tzitzits what do you think... Jesus did it.

If a law does not apply to you then you dont do it. Not all laws apply to all people. Eg maternity laws apply to only women. Child naming laws are specific to the child's gender.
Hair covering in church for women only, men have their beards to manage by the law.
Not all workers in bibical times were slaves, most were normal wage workers so the law that applies should apply.
The wearing of fringes were to remind us of the laws and not to break them. Did it work as intended? No, so the Lord said he shall put his laws in the mind and hearts of his saints in the later times. So as the bible says, add inderstanding to knowledge. Hence wearing fringers are NOT key. Nothin wrong with wearing them though.
The 10 Commandments are the Key laws but all others even the minor laws are to be obeyed if it applies to you. Christ said anyone who teaches other to obey even the minor laws shall be the 'great' in his kingdom.Matt 5 ;19.
Also , the kingdom of Christ shall be here on earth. Not the false rapture the 'Christians" have been preaching. Christ shall establish his kingdom on earth and execute both judgement and rewards to those deserving. Mt. Zion shall be his abode and all kingdoms on earth shall come year after to worship him. Hence the title King of kings and Lords of lords. Read Luke 1:33
      and Zachariah 14.& Psalms 2.
You may find more references in Revelation.
      Shalom.

First off, may I say this is a fantastic TWP!!!
Ross, this is only my understanding of the commandments. The moral law is the 10 commandments. After the Jews were brought back after their exile, they were so determined to NOT be destroyed again for breaking the 10 commandments that they got overly zealous about ways to make certain the moral laws would not be broken thus bringing God's wrath upon them again. Remember, this is just my opinion of it, because there were ~400 years between the OT and the NT where there would have been silence from God. No prophets with His words, silence -- imagine if you will that they were panicking because of the silence and so added more and more commandments to keep the 10 commandments completely/perfectly. (I picture them saying something like "Well that didn't work, try this!")
Jesus calls the Pharisees hypocrites because they teach as doctrine the traditions of men. Do as they say, not as they do.
As for your question, I've never heard of a zitzit nor have I read where Jesus wore one.

To worship the God of the holy Bible means to do what He said to do and He never said to celebrate dec 25th nor easter, nor to keep holy the 1st day of the week. So christianity the manmade religion does not worship the true God, although some of the people born into that religion who believe in Jesus truly desire to worship the true God and because they love Jesus God eventually opens their eyes.
I was sent to christian church during my childhood and i believed in Jesus but as an adult the Holy Spirit called me out of that false religion and Yeshua the Jewish Messiah was revealed to me, the TRUE Jesus Christ who keeps all of God's commandments. Once i started reading the Bible for myself it became crystal clear that the Jesus of christianity is not in the Bible.

[10]That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
[11]And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures DAY AFTER DAY to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.

Disobedience is shown and thought forcibly after the death of all the apostles. The very first people were called ""believers""at the time of Pentecost. But now dozens of different names and groups have been made as per to their own choice. Even after Jesus Christ went to heaven, Apostles were following the original Sabbath day, what Jesus Christ have thought them to follow, But by now every different groups follow their own ways. "" Is this can be the Disobedience and Disrespect"", to our Almighty Creator God, the most Holy supreme high God?.
So can soon people may start to respect God and follow back the original Sabbath day what was true and genuine? It's upto each one of us.

Tomorrow's World even has a booklet on the Sabbath if you're interested. Anyhow several years ago, I had looked up words in dictionary regarding consecrate (Exod.29:8 LEB), convocation, etc.
As to your 2nd question about the Sabbath, I would pray to God. I would ask Him, "Lord, I just learned about the Sabbath, if it is according to your will will you help me have courage to do what is right in telling my boss that I can't work that day. Lord also if according to will, can you help me keep my job." Now regarding this, God looks at your heart and sees things man cannot see, so if God wants you to have that job still, He will make it work. The main problem is that Jesus had certain goals he wanted to fulfill. He didn't want to start a church. He didn't want to say just nice things. And, certainly he knew God didn't prepare 4,000 years to have him be killed. Jesus's main goal, from the beginning was that people follow him to restore the nation of Israel, and then follow him to other nations, eliminating original sin, building the Kingdom of God on the earth. Because Christians don't understand that, many different denominations came up, dividing Jesus' movement and causing divisions and even wars. That's why the Lord of the Second Advent must come and FINISH what Jesus started.

Ok, number one, Easter has derived from the Samaritan God " Ishtar " and not Eostre and when you do enough research this is evident.
Second, The feast days and ceremonial laws were nailed to the cross as stated in Colossians 2 and Paul is quite clear that after Baptism we are dead to our sins which Jesus forgave, no longer being under the shadow of these things which Jesus fulfilled.
Third, I completely agree with the Sabbath, sundown Friday through sundown Saturday is the 7th day of rest and worship.
Fourth, God's Law ( the commandments ) is a complete character of God the Father, Jesus kept them as stated in John 15 as a follower of Christ I keep them because I'm saved not to be saved.
Lastly, one that was not covered, Did Jesus Believe in the unity of the Triune ( Trinity ) as most Christians do today? The answer is, Yes! At his baptism all three were present, Jesus also promised to send them a comforter in way of the Holy Spirit.
So is Jesus a Christian by today's standards of Biblical teaching? No! I agree with most of this video's content.

      Hi John,
Regarding your first point, my opinion over the name is as "po-tay-toe" "po-tah-toe" it is known to be a pagan god. We are not to look into worshipping them. Period.
Regarding your second point, my understanding is that the feast days were not part of the ceremonial law as God states very clearly they are HIS feast days.
Lev 23:2 "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.'" The rest of the chapter goes through His sabbath to the Feast of Tabernacles.
Jesus, in Colossians 2, my understanding is that Paul is exhorting the saints and faithful brethren in Colosse to remember all that they have in Christ. v8 tells them to beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy ... according to the tradition of man .... not according to Christ. v11 tells them that in Christ they were circumcised with the circumcision made without hands,....by the circumcision of Christ. v12 and 13 are exciting to read because it is leads up to His death that wiped out the ordinances that were against us. We could NEVER keep the letter of the moral law on our own and animal sacrifice was not enough to make us pure before God! Jesus did that! All the ceremonial laws regarding sin and atonement, sprinkling of blood ... is nailed to the cross because Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, the LAMB OF GOD! He is our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Regarding Col 2:16 and the shadow of things to come but the substance is of Christ, I read this totally different than most. My understanding of this is that just as the temple was a shadow of the heavenly one (Hebrews 9:24 "For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.") , that the food and drink, the festival days, the new moons and sabbaths that we keep now are the substance of Christ but are shadows of things to come. Can you imagine keeping the Feasts WITH Christ!??? It boggles my mind.
Regarding your fourth point, I keep God's commandments because that is how I show Him I love Him. I keep His feast days because that is how I show Him I love and obey Him.
In my understanding, the Holy Spirit is the power and essence of God, of Christ. Yes, technically "all three" were present at Christ's baptism because it was then that Jesus was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to do the work of God the Father. Matthew 3:16 tells us "When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him." In humans terms, a 'spirit' is what, a wisp, something that moves as the wind -- unseen. The Spirit of God was "like a dove", a simile, not anything actual that was concrete and seen as a "person" of the trinity would have been.
I hope my thoughts are clear to read. It makes sense in my head but sometimes the 'getting it in print' loses something.
      Blessings!

@@psalmbirdee11824 I could agree within almost all except the Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit is called " HE " in many different places in scripture Old and New testament. The word "HE" is a personal pronoun denoting a distinct individual. I have had this debate with more SDA than I can count. The sad thing is they all believe in the spirit of prophecy and EGW's writing's, but as soon as you bring up the fact that she gives council against leaving the church over the apostasy that comes into it, and that anyone who separates themselves from the main body of the church that we can be sure that God is not leading them, then the brakes get pumped and everything from EGW can't be used anymore. I would say they are more like messianic jews, they still believe in the feast days which in all honesty isn't a big deal the feast days whether you keep them or not isn't a salvational issue. They also don't believe in the trinity, they believe the Holy Spirit is the inspiration of Jesus or the Father instead of it being a literal member of the Godhead. This belief is also not a salvational issue because whether the Holy Spirit is or isn't a person it is still the force of God that speaks to our hearts, brings us to repentance, and brings sanctification to a person's heart. They also don't believe in celebrating man-made holidays like Christmas or Easter, I myself have always struggled with this one, but to me, it is how that holiday is kept and honored that makes it pagan or whether you are truly trying to honor the Lord in it.

Why do you say the ceremonial laws are God's Feasts? The ceremonial laws (offering lamb for sin offerings, etc.) were attached to the Sabbaths; this is what is done away with, NOT the feasts. However you want to talk about the Law of God, you probably didn't know the Sabbath Feasts were attached to God's Law; see Exodus 13:3-10. Anyhow it seems people want to keep the pagan celebrations of Easter eating leavening products than keeping the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is attached to the Passover; notice what 1Cor.5:6-7 states. Also you might have NOT known too, that these feasts of Lev.23 will be kept in the future; see Isaiah 66:23 & Zechariah 14:1-9, 16-19. People always want to be against Christ & the Apostles by saying things were abolished at the cross, but then why did the Apostles keep them after the cross? People are NOT following the (Col.2:6, 1Pet.2:21, 1Cor.11:1, Eph.2:20) example of Jesus & the Apostles, even though Jesus & the Apostles kept the feasts; see Pentecost in Acts 2:1, see Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day in John 7:2,8-10,14,37, see Passover in Matt.26:2,17-29, Mark 14:1,12-25, Luke 22:1,7--20, John 13:1-15,29, 1Cor.11:20-34 (Note: Passover is NOT done at church as scriptures say, it is done in a house or seperated building away from the church and it is done with eating Matzos and drinking wine (oinos), NOT grape juice. This is followed by foot washing.), see also Acts 27:9 about the fast in KJV; this is talking about the Day of Atonement as some versions point out. Now my guess is you are going to point to Col.2:17; this is talking about some feasts are a shadow of things to come for they haven't been fulfilled yet, such as the Feast of Trumpets when Jesus comes back to stop World War 3 and to raise up the dead saints; see 1Thess.4:16-17, 1Cor.15:50-57, Joel 2:1-32, etc. To know more about God's Feasts; see booklet called "The Holy Days: God's Master Plan" and see telecasts about the Holy Days in Tomorrow's World.

    Plain Truth except or reject.
Jesus Christ his desciples and the earlier followers were never heard the word Christianity in their lifetime.
Anonymous author of Gospels, Paul & early Church fathers are the founder of Christianity.

Is Jesus a Christian? This question is a contradiction. Jesus does not follow Christianity but instead, it is more correct to say that Christianity follows Jesus, or at least that's the intent.

Jesus was never a Christian. He is the savor of the world. The 2nd Adam.

He could be, but also He is; He is the alpha and omega (the first and the last).
      "I am that I am"
If you believe in Jesus the Messiah, you are a christian

      Quran 3:59
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:24-28
God had given the Law to encourage the Israelites to love him and to love others (Mark 12:30 - 31). He had never prohibited doing good on the Sabbath. The Pharisees acted as if God had created people so that he would have someone to keep the Sabbath, but Jesus clarified that God had given the Sabbath as a gift to the people he had created (Mark 2:27).
For the Pharisees, the Ten Commandments provided great restrictions punishable by death. For Jesus, the Law outlined great freedoms that led to real life (Matthew 5:17).
