Here Are 5 Commonly Held Myths about the Jesus of the Bible

Professing Christians know that Jesus gave His life for mankind, but what else do they know about Jesus and why He came to earth as a human being? On today’s Tomorrow’s World program, we’ll expose five myths about the Jesus of the Bible. He is, as Bruce Barton wrote, The Man Nobody Knows.
How surprising that is, when the world’s largest collective religious body claims to worship Him.
John 3:16 is perhaps the most famous of all verses, yet one that says something very different from what people think. Stay tuned!
As surprising as it may be, commonly held beliefs indicate much misunderstanding about the Savior of the world.
The first myth is a major doctrine found among some Christian denominations.
It’s amazing what people accept as truth simply because that is what their priest tells them, without ever investigating it for themselves from the only authoritative book about the life of Jesus. So,
Myth #1: Jesus’ mother was a perpetual virgin
This myth has far-reaching implications.
Scriptures mention Jesus having brothers and sisters, but some allege that these verses refer to either cousins or disciples. What are we to believe? Should we follow traditions handed down to us that conflict with easy-to-understand scripture? Or should we believe the Bible? You be the judge!
The false narrative of Jesus’ mother remaining a perpetual virgin and Jesus having no siblings is soundly contradicted in John 7, beginning in verse 3:
His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” For even His brothers did not believe in Him (John 7:3-5).
So much for “His brothers” referring to disciples! This does not mean that He never referred to His followers as being brothers, only that He had “brothers” who were not disciples.
Another scriptural example of His blood family is found in Matthew 12, verses 47-50, where there is a clear distinction between His physical family and His spiritual family:
Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.” But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:47-50).
These references to brothers cannot be shrugged off easily.
Let’s notice another passage on this subject where sisters (plural) are mentioned.
Matthew 13:54-56 relates how citizens in the area where He grew up, were perplexed by the wisdom and miracles He performed:
… when He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” (Matthew 13:54-56).
Any objective reader who is not influenced by unfounded traditions recognizes that Matthew 1:24-25 ought to lay the question to rest.
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.
Although “firstborn son” does not necessarily mean there were others, the inference is certainly there.
But more importantly, any student of the Bible knows that the expression “did not know her” is a euphemism for sexual relations, as we see in Genesis 4:
Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain (Genesis 4:1).
And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch (Genesis 4:17).
And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth (Genesis 4:25).
My friends, instead of blindly following Church traditions, read the Bible for what it says!
But you may wonder, “Is it important to know that Mary did not remain a perpetual virgin and that Jesus had half-brothers and sisters?”
The answer is found in
Myth #2: The narrative that Mary is our intercessor
Mary was the mother of Jesus and scripture indicates she was a righteous woman.
But the role of Mary has been grossly and blasphemously corrupted. Nowhere do we find in the Bible anything about her “immaculate conception.”

A lot of people don't understand the bible. They all think Jesus was a carpenter, teacher. Stop trying to understand the bible. Give yr heart to Jesus Christ & our heavenly father then you will understand. The bible is like food to us to keep us health. The bible is what feeds the soul please don't try to say you because really you don't understand. When Jesus was born his parents Mary & Joseph had taken Jesus for the senses to be counted for. So is Jesus Christ real is he the king of king's & Lord of lord's. Jesus is the one & only Messiah. He died on the cross for all of us who all will lison.
When I went to my parish pastor over some of these same things he got very angry and told me the Bible wasn't meant to be taken literally. It's only a guide. Well that cinched it for me and I took the word of the Bible over the priest.

When I asked my husband why to pray to Mary instead of asking God directly he said Mary is God's secretary. I laughed at him and told him was wrong. Mary was just a woman that God chose to boar his son, Jesus.

Some 40 bible verses confirm that Jesus is the Son of God - all of Jesus' teaching came from his heavenly Father - Jesus acknowledged this.
Jesus never did anything, said anything nor performed supernatural 'miracles' of his own initiative - he always gave credit to his Father's authority as the means by which he raised the dead, calmed a storm and healed the sick. Jesus said that his Father was greater - not equal to himself.
Not one bible verse contradicts the truth that Jesus is the Son of God - not even the misrepresented verse of John 1:1 which is taken from numerous false translations that are grammatically incorrect and contradictory.
John 1:1 in the original manuscripts does not say that Jesus is God - this would conflict with the statement that 'the Word was with God'.
Do a little research into the Greek Interlinear scriptures that clearly show that Theon (God) is not the same as Theos - a qualitative term meaning 'god-like', 'divine' or 'a god' .. yet, in many Bibles has been rendered 'God', same as Theon, which is incorrect.
James Moffatt is one of the few bible translators that has correctly rendered John 1:1 in context, in that the 'Logos' Jesus Christ is with God and that he [Jesus] is 'divine' [god-like or a god] which is grammatically coherent and does not contradict the previous statement which introduces the Word as being with God.

Jesus was the first of God's creation - he was created in heaven before the angels - the only-begotten son of God, through whom all other things were created, both visible and invisible.

Hell is the Greek pagan underworld rules by the mythological god Hades. Not a biblical thing at all. Christ only ever taught about the lake of fire, gehenna. Read Revelation 20:12 to the end

This message and teaching while very well presented based on what was presented scripturally, the last myth described is one which requires more scriptural proof than presented,..I wrestle with the interpretation presented.

1.What does the bible say about tithing.
2. In 1Timothy, Apostle Paul said a woman is not supposed to preach on church. What does that really mean yet some scripture say that, the sons and daughters will prophesie. An prophesying is about edifying the gospel of Christ.
The scriptures say no one is righteous, so how does Mary mother of jesus become righteous, makes no sense.

Why did Jesus give Mary into John's care as he died on the cross? Tradition at that time was for another son to care for the widowed mother. John 7:3-5 it indicates his brothers did not believe in Jesus. If these were Jesus' younger half-siblings, why wouldn't they have been taught from birth that Jesus was supernatural? Wouldn't it make more sense that Joseph was a widower with children from a previous marriage? In that case, His older half-siblings might have had some feelings about Mary's supernatural pregnancy and Jesus' being the Messiah. That could be why they did not believe in Him until after he was resurrected.
Please reply to let me know how you interpret Jesus giving Mary to John's care.

It seems such an important detail would have been included in scripture, especially if it were important to to negate half-siblings of Jesus. Nor is it ever stated that Joseph was significantly older than Mary; again, that was a quaint legend to help support the myth of Mary's perpetual virginity.
A great question: why did Jesus give His mother into the care of John and not any half- siblings. Presumably because non of those half- brothers were present at the crucifixion

I enjoy your videos & ministry but I do have questions concerning the abandonment of Christians in Heaven. I'm in full agreement that we will rule with Christ on the Earth but I also believe what John 14:2-3 says....2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (me) When Jesus ascended, He did not ascend to earth but to heaven. Jesus did not say he was preparing a place on earth but a place where He is. Is the Father's house here on earth? Oh yes so many stories! The only one not told is that the true sabbath day is Saturday the Seventh day of the week ! The Catholic Church requested the day be changed ! Or should I say the Roman Catholic Church who crucified Jesus on the Cross !
You should not say neither one of those statements. They are not the truth.
"The Catholic Church" did not request the day to be changed. When Emperor Constantine I-a pagan sun-worshipper-came to power in A.D. 313, he legalized Christianity and made the first Sunday-keeping law. His infamous Sunday enforcement law of March 7, A.D. 321, reads as follows: “On the venerable Day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed.” (Codex Justinianus 3.12.3, trans. Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church, 5th ed. (New York, 1902), 3:380, note 1.)
The Sunday law was officially confirmed by the Roman Papacy. The Council of Laodicea in A.D. 364 decreed, “Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday but shall work on that day; but the Lord’s day they shall especially honour, and, as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing, they shall be shut out from Christ” (Strand, op. cit., citing Charles J. Hefele, A History of the Councils of the Church, 2 [Edinburgh, 1876] 316).
Also, who really killed Yeshua (Jesus)?
1. Was it the Romans? Let’s find out the answer in God’s Word. In Matthew 27:35 we read, “And when they [that is, the Roman soldiers] had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.” From this verse we learn that the Roman soldiers crucified Yeshua (Jesus). In fact, crucifixion was a Roman way of punishing a criminal. In the eyes of the Romans, Yeshua was a criminal. That’s why they crucified Him.
2. Was it the Jews? In Acts 2 Peter delivers a sermon on the day of Pentecost, addressing the people of Israel. And Peter says to them, “Men of Israel…Hear these words…this Yeshua (Jesus), delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men” (vv. 22-23). In other words, Peter is telling the Jews that they were responsible for the crucifixion and death of Yeshua.
3. Was it you and I? Paul tells us that we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and that “the wages of sin is death” (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). Thus you and I should have been the ones to be crucified on the cross, for we are the ones who sinned against God. Oh, but Yeshua (Jesus) took our place!
4. Was it His Father? Let’s read Acts 2:23 again, “this Yeshua (Jesus), delivered up according to the definite [determinate] plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” Notice that Yeshua died according to the determined and foreknown plan of God. That means that His death was not an accident but was part of God’s eternal decree. Yeshua was not a victim in the hands of the Romans, or Jews, or in our hands. No! His death was planned by his Father from eternity past. Therefore, ultimately it was God the Father who delivered up Yeshua to death, as Romans 8:32 explains, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all [or handed Him over to death].”
Conclusion (The Roman Catholic Church was not established until after 300 A.D.)
So, who killed Yeshua (Jesus)? The Romans did; the Jews did; you and I did; and, His Father did. Yet, while this is true, we can also say that no one really took His life, because He gave his life voluntarily. Yeshua says, “I am the good shepherd…and I lay down my life for the sheep…I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again” (John 10:14-18).
Friday night to Saturday night shabbat yes. Constantine change Sunday to last day of week but its the 1st day. All names of week are pagan if you look them up e.g Saturday saturn Thursday thors day apparently.... roman. Interesting about the 8th day when you read about it. I believe you quoted Romans 14:6 - He who observes a special day does so to the Lord; he who eats does so to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. But if you read the rest of PAUL's LETTER, in context you will be able to discern he was speaking of fasting. He was talking about how some thought certain days were better for fasting, NOT TO BE KEPT FOR SABBATH. Who is Paul to make such a statement about the Sabbath? Yeshua is the Lord of the Sabbath and HE didn't change it. That's what the Bible states, not Paul.
GOD called NO other day the Sabbath. Who cares what man believes, for the heart of man is wicked!
No other day is called the Sabbath in the Bible. The 4th commandment states "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy" The 7th Day is what GOD Commanded. Genesis 2:3, God also said the Sabbath “IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL FOREVER” because “in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.”
The Bible tells us that the Sabbath is a perpetual Sign that lasts forever and when we keep the seventh day Sabbath of the Lord, it is a SIGN that we are God’s children and hence is also a SIGN that God is our Heavenly Father that we love and worship. When we keep the seventh day Holy as it was made at creation, it is also a SIGN that it is God that sanctifies us and makes us His Holy children. This is why it is part of the Ten Commandments. If you love God with all your heart, might and soul then you will also place yourself under this SIGN which defines that it is God alone who you belong to and love and worship. This is very important to God and we need to have an understanding of this. So as you can see, our all wise Creator God did not make a blunder when He placed the fourth Commandment in His eternal law of love instead of the “Book of the Law”, which was temporary and ended at the cross. We should therefore expect to find in the Bible that the Sabbath has been kept from creation and will go to eternity and we can. I am sure we all agree we can certainly trust the example given by Jesus and Paul.
The Sabbath is not a small matter to GOD. God's Word mentions the Sabbath in 145 verses of the Bible. It's also the 4th Commandment. Not a suggest-ment, not an ask-ment, not a request-ment... A Commandment!

Jesus blood sisters and brothers were not exorcizing faith in him and for that reason alone they were not called Jesus brothers and sister(in the faith).
Why do you always refer to Bible chapters as, for example "Mark the fourth chapter", or "Luke the eighth chapter" and not "Mark chapter 4" or "Luke chapter 8"?

Your 3rd reason is a bit off in my opinion. The kingdom of God is not the Kingdom of Heaven. You see Mark is written to the left behind church or those who say they believe but really do not. They will go through Tribulation to wake up. Which is why you will see through Marks Gospel Jesus always says" Why do you not understand, Why do you have no faith, Have you not read, Are you so without understanding?" these questions are posed only in Mark in this way because the audience of Mark's gospel does not read the bible. You will see in Luke's Gospel that there is no such questions posed. Luke is written to those watching and waiting IE the bride of Christ. John 3:15 through 17 - (15)that EVERYONE who believes in Him may have eternal life. (17)For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn THE WORLD, but to save THE WORLD through Him.
The Bible is easy enough to read and understand if you read it in context and use a good Concordance. Using this GOD-given understanding it becomes relatively easy to see it does not state any of the non-sense you have typed here. And may I add you were able to accomplish typing this nonsense all while being arrogant, prideful and condescending about it the whole time. (That does take skill, I must give you credit for that)...

no... the kingdom of God is in HEAVEN... it was always about going to HEAVEN... frankly why do you think Jesus was constantly saying that is preferable to store up treasure in HEAVEN?... the kingdom of GOD is right above the dome over the Flat Earth on which we live... Jesus came to anounce that the Kingdom of God was near, because He came to open up the gates to Heaven, which were unaccessible before His coming...

Jesus was not preaching a Kingdom here on earth, as He told Pilate himself.. that his kingdom was NOT of this world... of course, when Jesus comes back, His kingdom will descend from Heaven, where is his kingdom right now. that's where you can go if you have washed your sins in his blood and been born again of his holy spirit...
