Flamvell - Failed Cards, Archetypes, and Sometimes Mechanics in Yu-Gi-Oh

- We’re going for low-hanging fruit today and talking about Flamvells to continue our bashing of the Hidden Arsenal archetypes. It’s well deserved since their archetype had access to one of the strongest spells in the game and went nowhere. Their archetype revolved around having fire monsters……that’s it. The whole explanation of this archetype is summed up in one sentence. You could blame it on Yugioh slowly making archetypes that synergize with one another in early 2009. Still, it wouldn’t have hurt them to make an archetype like Flamvell work, especially when the FIRE support was basically nonexistent outside of Volcanics. Even they weren’t viable until Payne96 cried his heart out, and Konami caved in and gave the young man his dream support. Is it meta? No, but it’s at least playable. Too bad Flamvell doesn’t have the same luck, and in today’s video, we’ll show you why Flamvell flamed out and is known as one of Yugioh's worst archetypes.

Another unfortunate case of an Archetype that really needed more Spell/Trap support instead of more bodies being thrown at it
Very true. But I also think this Archetype needed Monsters with better Units and Effect monsters. Their Synchros are also Underwhelming! With only 2 Extra deck monsters.
It’s such a shame that this Archetype just didn’t have the power to make bigger plays!
Like almost every early hidden arsenal archetype
That's every archetype in HA. I think they were purposefully made butt
oh boy, I cant wait for the new Flamvell support
I bet the new genex support was a response to theduellogs making a failed archetypes and mechanics video😂😂😂
Flamvell, jurrac and laval are basically the same people lore wise, just like constellar and tellarknight, new support for stellar made 1 normal summon from sheratan can literally means one discard+omni negate.
flamvell and laval will get that type of support sooner or later.
With Konami being on a trend of milking nostalgia recently i wouldn't be surprise if Flamvell get their support tomorrow and instantly go from trash to meta like Genex did
@@notmyfault2498 the joke is he made video on silent. then cards for "silent" come out. but genex can suck my unit. Ice barriers best barriers
@BluyMolla-fj8ql Don’t forget Rata, who called Genex the worst archetype in his Legacy of the Worthless series
when your best monster effect involves "attack with 1900 and destroy something" we have a big problem
That was a good plan In 2010, btw 😂
@@alberthrenzocuaylamarca4195 back in my days, the battle phase really felt like a battle.
in the modern day yugioh yes ... some 10 to 15 years ago it was viable but still laval has it just simply beaten when it comes to using rekindling
I wish there were more 200 def fire monster than there actually are. Rekindling is such a cool card
But Rekindling is probably WHY they are limited.

_Exactly!_
Flamvells were good for something, and that was carrying me through the 2010 and 2011 WCS games on DS.
There's a card called Raging Flame Sprite, which is a FIRE Pyro with 100 Atk / 200 Def. Its effect lets it attack directly, and it gains 1000 Atk every time it deals battle damage. This card was my boss monster for these games.
When I found out about this card, I built a deck focused on summoning this and buffing it up. It was ridiculously good at dealing with the boss decks (like Earthbound Immortals and Meklords). I used whatever cards helped, battle phase protection, equip spells, searching and recycling. I remember using some Flamvell cards as well.
For someone who hadn't really played Yu-Gi-Oh! before, it was a godsend.
That’s super dope, i love those games
This was my first "real" deck when I started playing in 2010. I was 12 years old and the guys at my locals helped hook me up with the Firedogs, Magicians, Rekindlings, and some level 8 synchros. It wasn't the best deck in the room by far, but it was affordable and enjoyable for me as a new player. Forever thankful to those guys at my locals for helping me out with this deck.
Can't wait for the new Flamvell support to be announced in 10 days.
I was going to make this exact comment.
wait are they legit adding more ???
No, the joke is that the last video Mr. The Duel Logs made about failed cards, the Silent Magician/Swordsman cards, was funny since ten days later, Konami announced the new Yugi deck, which included retrains of the two Silent Monsters.
We are saying that we are getting more Flamvell support because of that.
Diabolical idea: make an archetype of Fire-attribute Reptiles where they all have 200 defense. That way you can Snake Rain into Rekindling for all the advantage.
For the record, “Bravo, Fighter Fur Hire”, “Evoltile Elginero”, “Evoltile Megachirella”, “Evoltile Pleuro” and “Supreme Sovereign Serpent of Golgonda” are all FIRE reptiles with 200 or less DEF that already fulfill that criteria if you don’t’ wanna wait.
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Don't you need exactly 200 DEF to work with Rekindling?
Still, how about instead of a full blown archetype…. How about 1 FIRE Reptile that’s specifically built around the interaction:
_Flamvell Venom Viper_ (FIRE)

Oh yeah…
But that still leaves “Bravo, Fighter Fur Hire” and “Evoltile Pleuro” as viable targets at least.
Have you read the Snake-Eye monsters?
Your Gravekeeper Spy was showing the effect of Gravekeeper Spiritualist.
I am so used to Duel Links that, when Logs talked about Firedog being a single-turn Synchro Summon, I had to remind myself that Main Phase 2 is a thing in the TCG/OCG/Master Duel.
If Flamvell gets new support I will blame popular youtubers for this
A popular Yugi tuber can talk about Blairs cards all they like and will never be printed.
This is a falicy and this implies Konami cares what they're audience is saying which they don't.
Also Konami should d admit she's the lightsworn user
Fun fact: flamvell hedgehog became shaddoll hedgehog in lore.
Goes to show he was made better use of as a Shadow of his Former self! I find that Ironic since it Says so much about how awful Flamvells were.
Man I loved Flamvell. Used to run a Red Nova Flamvell deck that I designed myself that for once had more wins than losses. I miss that deck.
Please, for the love of any Gods that we believe in, make a Mecha phantom beast failed cards and mechanic videos, I have been waiting for supports for 5 years now.
Konami tomorrow : Flamevell something - eff : if this card summon, you win the game
Flamvells didn't even need to be that bad either. It could have just been mediocre. But Konami is going to Konami, and is just going to make the cards just plain bad, even for the era they debut in. Unlike all the other decks in this series, there's no one or two cards that can save the whole thing, nor is there a redeeming factor for them. Morphtronics have an FTK, Union monsters have the ABC cards, and the Silent cards literally got legacy support less than two weeks ago (as of this video).
Flamvells need a complete overhaul.
Pack Filler or a quick cash grab from the greatest card company? Take your pick
What legacy support has the silent cards received?
Gravekeeper's Spy so good at her job that she fooled TheDuelLogs that she was Spiritualist 5:45
Hahah I thought something was wrong with the card and went to the comments to see if I was going insane, good catch.
Before Laval, there was a monster mash deck that was decent that surrounded them. It used magical merchant to mill as much of the deck as possible before using a spell and trap wipe and rekindling to swarm the field and OTK.
In Yu-Gi-Oh world Championships 2011 for DS. There was a free Duel NPC (in think that was Flamvell Baby). That used a Flamvell deck with Magical Merchant. Só he could mill Flamvell Monsters and add reklindling to his hand with a singles Flip.

Babe wake up new Duel Logs video
5:37 Uh oh, looks like Gravekeeper's Spy got his hands on the Spytron 3000 Disguise Kit.
I know it will hurt me, but I'd be interested in hearing about the Gusto Archtype
I think this is my very first proper deck that I have ever had, It was the time when Pilica just came out and I remember playing Daigusto Sphreez self-punching like a champ. It was painfully bad tho. The smaller bird is really splashable but the big synchro was not worth it.
But Gusto is still considered playable to this day having cheese OTK an synergy with equips an wind Synchros
Yeah Gusto is far from failed even now when there are archetypes that can do what it does but better. It isn't unplayable like Flamvell
If I’m reading Origin right, it would actually work best on Turn 1. Its effect works if your opponent has 3 cards _or less_ in their GY, and since they start off with _no_ cards in their GY, just Summon a Flamvell, then you can Special Summon Origin from your hand for Synchro plays.
It’s not a _great_ combo, but at least it _works._
Okay what the heck is going on with the Neo Flamvell part of the video? The effects on the cards and what's being said is almost the complete opposite for Shaman and Origin. Shaman wants to banish SPELLS for the burn, not monsters. And Origin wants the opponent to NOT have cards in their grave, making the first turn the ONLY turn it could be used consistently because the opponent doesn't have cards in the grave yet.
Simple. Hidden Arsenal was made to be a Newbie Friendly Pack Experience for most of the Cards.
The only problem being that The Entire Sets were Lopsided as Hell!
Most Boss Monsters like Catastor, Brionic, Tris, And Naturia Beast and Dragon, completely Stomped the Comptition! Not to mention X-Saber and Mist Valleys would Get more Consistent Card design due to both Using two major Game Play Cards.
Thunder Bird and Apex Avian would later get Divine Wind Field spell, and X-Sabers got the XX-Saber upgrade that boosted their Synchro Swarming power! These decks got some of the better support cards in the game!
@@danielramsey6141 no, what I meant was that he explained those two cards as if they had completely different effects than what was written on them.
sad the deck is bad, neo flamvell lady is such a beautiful card
Well I only used Grunika along with power zone, junk barrage, attribute bomb
The plap plap plap effect damage is just glorious!
Neo Flamvell Lady and Firedog has use in Shiranui decks due to Shiranui monsters having less than 200 DEF. It's something they can use for their plays while setting up further extra deck summons
I remember playing Firedog and Magician. We called the deck Firecat, on account of combining Firedog and Magician with Rescue Cat and low level beast type monsters for low level tuning. The deck also contained Gravekeepers and a little bit of Blackwing, along with toolbox cards like Cyber Dragon, Ryko, Hamster and Caius. Good deck for a while, but the Flamevell was merely a 1 2 punch with Firedog and Magician. Other than those 2 cards and rekindling, Flamvells never fit into the deck.
'we're going for low hanging fruit today' what an awesome way to start a video
Please do noble knights or grave keepers. God I loved both of those back when I was playing Yu Gi oh all the time.
Alright folk set timer for how long until Flamvell support is releaved.
I am curious on the worms archtype. Most videos are either talking about the ice barriers because of their syncro dragons, or the ally of justice because they are so bad. Out of all the hidden arsenal archtypes, ive not heard a single peep about worms other than flip monsters.
6:49 And some more love for these 2 here:

I wonder if the new support for the archetype will do it any justice
Flamevell did well as an engine... For laval. So a pile of pyro stuff that happen to help each other because Konami mostly abandoned them.
get ready for flamvell support in 2 weeks
Don't push your luck, Flamevells are pretty much DOA the moment they were introduced and Konami knew it
You should talk about Team Unicorn stuffs, especially their boss monsters because most Beast monsters they have have been really bad since its release.
Wtf is team unicorn?
@ed765super Team Unicorn is a dueling team from 5ds. Their ace cards consisted of Thunder Unicorn, Voltic Bihorn, and Lightning Trihorn. They're synchroed with beast monsters, so I assume that's what they meant. (Although it wouldn't be much of a video)
@@tibb.y1892 Oh right! I remember those synchros
Funnily enough, unicorn beast nordic stuff + flamevell is unironically decent in Tengu format. Tier 2 to rogue.
4:05 The moment I read “Ally of Justice” was the moment I knew this card was screwed from birth… Let me fix that for BOTH archetypes:
_Ally of Justice Emmesary - Flamvell Magician_

⚪️You can banish 1 DARK Syncrho monster you control facedown: Synchro Summon 1 FIRE Synchro monster from your extra deck using DARK and FIRE monsters from your hand or field as materials.
Pyro/Pendulum/Tuner/Effect
_You can tribute 1 FIRE or DARK monster with 200 or less DEF (Quick Effect): Special summon this card from your hand or Pendulum zone. Gains 400 ATK for every face-up DARK and FIRE monster on the field. If this card is used as tribute or material for the summon of a DARK or FIRE monster: You can discard 1 card; place this card into your pendulum zone. You can apply 1 of the following effects of “Ally of Justice Emmesary - Flamvell Magician” per turn:_
⚪️Tribute 1 FIRE monster from your hand or field: Add 1 spell/trap to your hand (from your deck or GY) that mentions DARK in it’s effects.
⚪️Tribute 1 DARK monster from your hand or field: Add 1 spell/trap to your hand (from your deck or GY) that mentions FIRE in it’s effects.
ATK/1400 DEF/200
I love this but the spell searches are op XD
@@SuperSonic3557I mean the tricky parts would be that A: it’s attached to 2 of the (currently) worst archetypes in the game, and B: You’d need to run a deck with FIRE _and_ DARK monsters + related spells/traps to make the most out of it, which can be an issue since a lot of decks gravitate towards a mono-attribute play style.
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire meta would probably abuse this by tributing an ash blossom to search chaos space or what not. But yeah you are right. It's tied to the "worst" archetype. Despite what I said earlier I would love to see this card.
@@SuperSonic3557
You know, I just realized, it’s a Pendulum monster with “Magician” in it’s name, so that gives it access to the Pendulum Magician stuff too (As well as making it part of the greater “Magician” family)…

I'm still looking the dragunity archetype in this series...someday
Dragunity is great tho
May have to reread Origin there buddy. Reading the card explains the card. Pretty sure it was meant as an extender if you have that alongside Firedog in your opening hand. SS Origin, NS Firedog, BP swing with Firedog, SS a 200 DEF monster then Main 2, synchro shoukan for like a Trishula or something, depending on what you brought out with Firedog's effect.
Thank you Duel Logs
Still waiting for that Nordics video. With that said, this one was great but painful. If Konami just took note of what works and what doesnt between archetypes. Its because of them just doing whatever that warrocks exist lol.
I had a flamvell/volcanic burn hybrid deck that ran well and this was during burning abyss/kozmo time. It always felt like the archetype was too inconsistent to run pure, but works moderately well in tandem with other archetypes
For the next episode of this series, can you please do noble kights?
I remember Noble Knight received their own box. Konami overhyped them.
Noble Knights are really strong in the OCG right now. So they don't need any video that gets them new support.
OG Noble Knights are garbage.
Infernoble Knights have nothing to do with OG Noble Knights
@@Gebirges Needs to be a Top 10 archetypes with the biggest power gap between OCG and TCG which might push Konami to do a mass transfer of missing support cards via overpriced promo boxes.
Of all cards Flamvell Firedog was the first i ever owned so it has a special place in my heart
One of my very first cards was Ancient Flamvell Diety. Such a cool looking card. It was holographic, too, although I do not remember what rarity.
More than likely it was an Ultra Rare or Secret Rare from the Hidden Arsenal packs.
So I try to make sense of this deck and a common theme I saw is, it involves the battle phase, banishing your opponents GY and milling, so maybe a field spell that Mills a flamvell monster once per turn, target 1 flamvell monster you control it can attack 2 times this turn ( you cannot declare an attack except with FIRE monsters) flamvell monsters you control gain 100 Atk X their level and a continuous spells that if you control a flamvell monster you can normal summon a flamvell monster in addition to your normal summon and each time a flamvell monster inflicts battle damage you can target one card in your opponents GY: banish it
And get their own link monster too if genex got one then why not flamvell
Probably not enough to fix it but it's something
I ran an awful otk deck that would work sometimes lol, magical merchant milled the whole deck until you got rekindling. Only spell card. Then spam extra deck monsters and swing for game
4:12 Let me see if I can amend the other Flamvells here:
_Flamvell Guardian_ (FIRE)

I’ve heard that argument before…
Some time ago on this channel, I brainstormed improved versions of each of the original “Neos” contact fusions (Whete you could contact fusion OR nor fusion them out, they float into one of their materials, they have improved versions of their original effects, etc…), and someone mentioned that those being actually GOOD cards would suddenly make Cosmic Neos a meta nightmare.
Gravekeepers was the first deck I fell in love with and I miss them so much.

i have flamevell firedog, rekindling, flamevell counter, flamevell guard, flamevell poun and neo flamevell sabre. i got them out of the original fire kings structure deck box.
Flamvell support coming this week LET'S GOOOOOOO
You should do a video on mikanko cards. The best ones to use and maybe possible counters to them?
The first Flamvell card I saw was Firedog and I immediately knew it was a good card simply because it worked well with other fire cards. Then I looked up other Flamvell cards to see if there was any synergy, and I immediately noticed all the other Flamvell cards sucked. They either didn't have good enough effects, were outclassed by other cards that did the same thing but better, or they were too difficult to set up.
Have you ever done a gravekeeper video ? Hinestly my favorite archetype ever since the old structure deck
New Flamvell support looking crazy
A failed archetype that comes to mind is war rocks. I love the card art so much but it’s a shame it doesn’t really work. The concept and idea is cool and can be fixed with some good support cards
If flamevel came out in 2020 they Probly would have good effect and could have worked with salamengreat
I remember using flamvell guard in my old hieratic deck to access odd numbered synchros
Yeah, it was one of the few uses the card had outside of Dragon Rulers.
They need a card other than Rekindling. A 200 def hand trap. A rescue rabbit that summons itself if you have a fire 200 def on field. A synchro that negates by milling 200 def monsters.
Please do a video on the seal of orichalcos/ the arichalcos arc cards
I'm watching this video with the expectations that Cimo's progression series 2 escapades are at the very least mentioned
The fact that Flamvell debuted during the Synchro era, and had no easy special summons was a sign that it had a problem.
i didnt know flamvell considered a failure
i used to run turbo quassar with flamesworn engine with 3 rekindling and magic stone excavation and topping locals with that

They just needed to add flare blitz.
don't forget flamevel guard saw plays in blue eyes when they got azure eyes
One of the single best SPELLS I’ve ever seen in the game, with NO way to properly search it, and very few FIRE monsters to properly use it….
I hope it truly get phenomenal support, or new LAVAL monsters that can abuse Rekindling.
In archetypes other than Flamvell/Laval, the 200 Def gimmick is basically just a way to treat Rekindling as a limited extender, instead of being a full-Soul Charge. Which means that they are allowed to have cards that can combo outside of Rekindling. Recall that it got limited in 2014 because of its usage in Fire Fist
Rekindling just rubbings its hands mischieviously
What about psychic-type mechanic when you pay LP to activate effect? Are they a failure too?
It’s really funny how Payne96 is just a part of the lore now.

New Link Materials list is "2 monsters,including a"DEF 200"monster".
Welcome to DuelLogs of the Worthless!
I so want Laval support.
what is the different between flamevell and laval? they are both fire pyro(mostly) which loves to synchro summon and millimg themself and have a lot of monsters with 200 def
Lavals are the only one that likes being milled, having effects that trigger from going to the graveyard. Flamevell was overall a bit lacking in direction and just bringing effects based on its lore
Laval have a ton of effects that yeet to the GY from Hand or Deck. Flamvell... well most of their okay effects require the battle phase, but they are pretty incoherent.
Anyone notice that at 5:56 gravekeepers spy has the text of gravekeepers spiritualist?!
He isn't Flamveil Magician. He is Ally of Justice Spellcaster!
If their counter traps cost was to move "X" banished 200 def fire monsters to the graveyard & instead countered "X" amount of effects in the chain, how would that have affected its viability?
Ah how I loved my Laval's good times good times
😕😕😕😕 Where i can watch the banlist tierlist full video!? 😔😔😔😔
What about the nordic archtype with Odin, Thor and Loki? Arent they also a failed archtype? If they are then please show why
Is there a truly strong FIRE attribute or Pyro type deck at all? I don't know if any archetypes that are based around either that are any good at all, but maybe a newer archetype has popped up that I don't know anything about.
Rescue-ACE and Salamangreat
Flamvell Loreman
Why gravekeeper spy is shown with the ability to fusion summon?! it effect summon a small gravekeeper from the deck
See? This is why you don't lock down card building for "lore" reasons. Also give your archetypes spells/traps 😤
