Love, Love, Love John Mellencamp! He has a ton of hit songs! He was a mega star in the 80's up there with Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson. Love me some 80's!
Mellencamp was/is a great writer. He had a string of albums where he had great rock and roll sound, like the Stones at their peak. Wrote some great ballads or non-rockers in same period. Lots to choose from, but this is a good one.
Breath of fresh air in the 80's!! Talent and hot looks! His music is still great to listen to!!! My favorite song of his is Paper and Fire. But there are many good ones. The first one I heard was Jack and Diane. Made me an instant fan!!
We are from the same town. My husband went to school with him. 💚 Some songs Small Town, Pink Houses, Cherry Bomb, Jack & Diane he had a lot of hits. ❤️
@@Tom81196Well I said record company, you said management, whatever. I really think it was both. But as far as the other part that's the same thing I said. That's what I meant by having the juice if you can't figure that out.
What you are viewing India is one of if not, the greatest songwriter of the 20th century and certainly one of the best live performers. He is a hell of a showman.
Second greatest songwriter i ever heard behind Steven Curtis Chapman. Aint Even Done With the Night, Pray for Me, Sugar Marie, I Need a Lover, Welcome to China Town, Pink Houses, Play Guitar, Serious Business, Hurts so Good, Smalltown, Lovin Mother fo YA, Golden Gates, The Danger List, Cherry Bomb, Minutes to Memories (a masterpiece of songwriting) Jack and Diane, Everyone Needs a Hand to Hold on to, Get a Leg Up, The Meltin Pot, Love and Happiness, Between a Laugh and a Tear, I Saw You First, Its a Lonely ol Night, ALOT OF HITS INDIA
John Mellencamp started out as John Cougar then he was John Cougar Mellencamp and then he just dropped the Cougar altogether! I love his music! Listen to his hits: Jack and Diane, Hurt So Good, and Pink Houses for starters!❤️❤️
This song takes me back to high school. Crank it up! Dig those loafers too. It looks like he might have taken dancing lessons from Michael Jackson! I saw him open for Heart back when he still went by the name John Cougar. He rocked really hard. I came away from the show liking him more than Heart. Another rocker of his you might want to check out is "I Need a Lover" which feels like a 70's song whereas this song definitely feels like an 80's song. Another song of his nobody else mentioned is "R.O.C.K. in the USA" which is full of shout outs to his musical heroes. And don''t forget "Hurt So Good" and "Lonely Ol' Night" -- Great stuff. Pure Americana.
My favorites of his are this one, Scare Crow and Paper in Fire. I don't love all his music, but I love his heart. He's for real and genuine. That's worth something!
I grew up listening to Mellencamp back in the day when he ruled the charts. This is one of my favourites of his. You might try listening to another one of his called 'Play Guitar'. Heck, you could almost just throw a dart at his list of songs and hit a good one.
Paper and Fire, Pink Houses, Jack and Diane... anything from the Scarecrow album, really. It's brilliant. John Mellencamp is his real name but when he first came out, they convinced him that 'John Cougar' would sell more. He changed it back later when he had fame.
John Cougar Mellencamp there is a song called check it out live version from Market Square arena in Indiana. John Cougar Mellencamp was a heavy believer in race Unity
Omg so excited to see you do his stuff. I grew up with his music one reason is because I am from Indiana and he lived in my town and another reason was because my mom was friends with one of his writers. He actually helped write this song! Love his scarecrow album and uh-huh album.
Small paradise and jack and diane. Paper and fire. I need a love that won't drive me crazy.... hurts so good. Rain on the scarecrow. Small town. Pink houses
Mellencamp is from my home state of Indiana. He has a ton of great songs. Also, please check out another guy from Indiana - Henry Lee Summer. Watch his video to Wish I Had a Girl!
I saw John Mellencamp a long time ago and it was a great show. Oddly enough, the thing I remember most about the concert was the amazing sound system they used.
I grew up on Mellencamp, always love hearing how others hear his music for the first time. Cherry Bomb is a more chill smooth song - and also featured the first interracial romance in a music video. Minutes to Memories is one of his most meaningful to me. I'm Not Running Anymore is incredibly musically interesting - a song about getting too old for dramatic crap, with some early 90s hip hop flair (don't worry he doesn't rap). Jackie Brown I can't listen to without crying - a song about poverty. Walk Tall is an odd music video featuring Peter Dinklage in an alternative version of the 1950s. When I first heard the term social justice warrior I thought that was an apt description of his music. He's been a strong proponent of social justice for decades, occasionally missing the mark as all white men will do. Last concert I went to of his, he took a knee for BLM. Blood on the Scarecrow birthed a decades long movement in support of struggling small farms. He's from Seymour IN. My great uncle used to be his postman. He represents the best of our small towns.
I like where he climbed to the top of the ladder. Ascending to the precarious heights of success then sliding down the other side even faster. Maybe this song was John was trying to prepare himself for how far he stood to fall.
Part of his attitude stems from being kicked out of the first band he was in, because the other members wanted a better singer. A band he formed by the way.
Record company executives made him go by John Cougar when he released his first album. When he became more famous after a string of hits, he started going by John Cougar Mellencamp, and then finally just John Mellencamp.
I'm Australian and still have John Cougar Melloncamp cds. Please do Stevie Wrights Evie Parts 1,2and 3 live at the Sydney Opera House possibly the best Australian RocknRoll ever.

Great great songwriter..
We are the people.
Originally forced by the record company to change his name to John Cougar. As soon as he had the juice to do it he changed it back to Mellencamp.
Nope. His management told him to change it and he did. It wasn't until he became popular that he felt he could use his real name.
@@Tom81196Well I said record company, you said management, whatever. I really think it was both. But as far as the other part that's the same thing I said. That's what I meant by having the juice if you can't figure that out.
