Another video that only serves to distract from the AMAZING song. LOVE this Bowie tune, never get tired of it, thanx for doing it. I would suggest "Aladdin sane", the title track from the five star album of his.

In this video appears Steve Stange, from the group Visage, 1:22 is the one on the bottom left, I recommend listening to his best-known song "Fade To Grey" it was published the same year as "Ashes To Ashes" which is a great song of course.

Nice! David Bowie released "Ashes To Ashes" as the lead single from his Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) album when I was in eighth grade. We heard the song on the radio long before we ever saw the video for it. That was a year before MTV launched. The video got some play on the few music video specialty shows that existed back then. It got a lot more play after MTV launched. It was a mind blowing video back then. Bowie spent a lot of money making that video, possibly more money than he spent making the album. That filter that sort of washes out everything in the frame was something never before seen. The acolytes in black joining him in the video were members of his London fan club and fashionistas of the "New Romantic" underground subculture. To me, rather than look like nuns, they looked like the people on the cover to the paperback edition of the Albert Camus novel The Stranger that was popular with some of the girls I knew back then. As for the lyrics, yes, Bowie revisits Major Tom from "Space Odyssey" and relays that he was a drug addict, which in some respects reflects Bowie's own life intruding into his art. Major Tom appears again in "Blackstar". And curiously, Major Tom also appears in a 1983 New Wave song by German artist Peter Schilling titled "Major Tom (Coming Home)". Another classic seventies song with a similar spaced out space man theme is "Rocket Man" by Elton John. Add those to your list. Elton John "Rocket Man" is a classic that will hopefully attract more visitors to your channel. 😃

I’m so glad you brought up "Ashes to Ashes"! It’s incredible to think about how revolutionary that video was at the time. Bowie’s creative vision really did push boundaries, and it’s amazing to hear how it resonated with you back in the day. The fact that he invested so much in the video, perhaps more than the album, really speaks to his commitment to the art form. The influence of the "New Romantic" style and that striking visual filter made it a standout moment in music history.
Thanks for sharing these thoughtful insights and recommendations. They’re a great addition to the conversation and will surely help bring more great content to the channel. 😃

Not a favorite:(. Pretty artsy video, too. But there is still plenty of good Bowie reactions left. Happy listening!
