Great video mate! I have the 5" on my R1300GS and it's plenty big. Can't imagine how obstructive the 7" would be. It works great, use Cardo in my helemt for a bunch of music functions and even Siri for maps, calls, etc. For a couple hundred bucks, can't ask for more.
great video review as usual Paul, I'm running the 5" with BMW mount, personally I think this is large enough, and it doesn't obscure the bike TFT screen too much, which I think would be the case using the 7", but each to there own, and as you rightfully say these units are a game changer, as long as you remember to charge or keep you phone hooked up to a power supply it works perfectly and doesn't cost an arm and a leg ;-)
Carpuride just released a 7 inch unit that sits flush with the BMW nav prep and you CAN use the wonder wheel to control it. W702BS model. I have not found a review yet but I am interested.
Instead of the BMW cradle, I drew my own holder and printed it out on the 3D printer. This means that the 702 is even closer to the bracket than the BMW navigator in the cradle and doesn't cover a millimetre of the dashboard. And it turns out that I can also raise and lower the windscreen as normal

Great video! I have a 2014 R1200RT that has a BMW Nav V. Looking to replace that and wondering if the W502 will fit that or not.....? Not too keen to do much in the fabricating art to force something in there instead. I guess my other options would be the Zumou XT or the Navigator VI.... both much more expensive and has less functionality with the phone integration.
A great comparison of both units, I had a 7 inch CarPlay unit on my Tenere World Raid and it was great, but it only just fitted without obstructing the dash,I think if you just mounted the 7 inch Carpuride directly to the Nav bar I think it would work much better. I have just ordered the Chigee A05 Lite for my new Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX thanks to you.
Hi, if the bike has the nav prep mount which you could mount the nav 5/6 on, then that means the cradle will work, if it has the whizz wheel. If any doubt e mail their customer support.
They are selling the 702B with a cradle adaptor on Amazon now. Will find out in a couple of days how it all works. But thanks for the video. I got a huge savings on the NAV6 when I bought my bike but have never been fully satisfied with it. I mean it works but linking it with my helmet, I had issues. I couldn’t link my phone to the helmet and the bike. Had to link my phone with the bike only only and link the bike to the helmet. Wondering how this will work now as I will have to link the phone with this unit and don’t know if they will fight between the bike and this unit. Oh well. Lots of testing I guess. It seems I really won’t need to link to the bike if I have this but I liked using the wiz wheel to make calls. We shall see.
What you mentioned about the magnet is as mentioned before very good but I just installed my BMW bracket and there was a small magnet installed, 5x 2 mm and not stein to activate the power.
@@gsd32i I have tested with a bigger magnet and the power get through, have order some magnets so I can replace the one in the bracket, but is disappointed with Carpuride help function as they do not take responsibility

@@gsd32i thinking they have done, there was a small magnet, but the problem I just found out was the that the sloth/ hole in the plate is just below 6 mm, on the GPS it is just over 9 mm and where the pins come out of the bracket is 9 mm which means that the Carpuride will never get power contact. I can not link pictures to show it

I bought one some time ago and put it on my 1250 RS but could never get it to stay connected after I stopped the bike. It would go back to zero and only connect intermittently at best. I just updated the firmware of the unit so after connecting to everything is seems to be ok. I have shut off the bike so I will let you know if it remembers the connection this time.

Got a stack of small bar magnets from Amazon for about £6. Already fitted , you may have to turn the magnet over if it doesn’t get the power to work first time due to the polarity North/South of the magnets .

Yes I believe you can, as you still get the power leads to connect to the battery if needed and then you also get the adapter plate which then gets the power from the bmw cradle mount , thereby making it no longer necessary to have the leads connected to the battery .
Do you happen to know if it's true that the W502 and the W702 have different processors? I have heard from other reviews that the W502 had a bit of an input lag.
I returned my 502B. It didn't work well with my gloves even though they all have touchscreen fingertips and work with my phone. Not sure if they have updated the firmware, but it was a showstopper for me about a month or two ago.
Thank you for the information. I have the W702 on my R1250GS wth a PackTalk Edge. Works great until I hook up with a friend on the Cardo mesh and then I loose all audio from CarPlay. Leave the mesh intercom and audio comes back. Any ideas?
Not sure, can you make a 2nd bluetooth pairing of your headset to the phone...with the main pairing being the mesh protocol? Packtalk support are pretty good at answering questions etc.

There is now a W702BS for BMW available that supports the BMW wonderwheel and it is also closer to the BMW bracket so it does not overlap the original display of the r1250GS👍
I'm using the ConnectedRide Cradle and phone app at the moment which is fine but puts phone at risk, so looking for an alternative. Biker mates are telling me the Carpuride BMW bracket isnt very robust - do you agree? Chigee are bringing out a 5' AIO Play BMW Edition in July/August - this looks like it will slot straight into the Nav Prep and be fully integrated with the Whizzy Wheel - I'm just weighing up getting a Carpuride or Chigee now or waiting for the fully integrated Chigee.
Things seem to be moving very quickly, if it were me I would wait. From a cost point of view the Carpuride is very good. Interesting to see how the new play version works in the cradle.
I got the 7 inch with BMW bracket but for my naked bike (2017 R-200r) the 5 may have been better aesthetically but do like the larger screen especially when using in split mode. Like you the cardo voice commands minimizes the need for touching the screen.
Received my W702B today! Mount it on the original BMW bracket, everything worked perfect thanks to your tips and advices. The only concern I have is that it vibrates on the road and with the motorcycle engine. Any recommendations to improve this?
Basically brings apple CarPlay to your bike. Zumo XT £360, Zumoi xt2 £500+, w502 cheaper . Reliability.......time will tell TBH, but Carpuride have been selling units for cars and vans for a number of years now.

Firstly do a factory reset on the w502. Then delete all entries of the Carpuride from your phones Bluetooth, wifi and CarPlay . Should be no problem connecting the phone to the Cardo packtalk . Then simply select Bluetooth and WiFi on and then in the CarPlay setting of your phone just look for the Carpuride and then select it and follow the on screen instructions etc should work 😁
I am looking to replace my crappy nav5 with something, but this setup, while its very nice, its too bulky. I wonder if i could just get a mirror mount from SP connect and a mount for a phone (the setup makes the phone stay very close to the frame), and somehow have that phone listen to the bike's wonderwheel... any idea on such a solution? - oh and i noticed that the W702 is not in the center...
When I mounted the 7 inch I had the bmw cradle removed and it was less in your face. I don't like the bmw cradle mount anyway and took it off pretty much straight away when I took the bike new out of the showroom. Ram mount so some small bar mounts and I used that and that was good. It's on the other videos of the w702. But as a quick fix then the cradle mount bracket is ok. Ask far as what you want to do I have tried using devices connected to the bikes tft via bluetooth and another unit ie Garmin zumo xt and it ended in tears!!!!!!good luck.
Dummy tech guy here,all new to me,carplay.Will all my phone apps be available on the carplay? In particular, i use a satellite navigation app that runs without phone service. Will this app work on the carplay? Also, i have downloaded maps on google Maps for when im out of phone service. Will this still work?I apologise for probably simple questions, but it's new to me.

Hi . Suggest unscrew the back as per video and see if magnet is in position . I ordered x20 yizhet 10x4 magnets from Amazon , £7 approx . Needed some for house anyway . Make sure magnet is in the correct way as won’t work if not right way in . Let me know ref any magnets and I will let my contact at Carpuride know .

I have a 1250GS and the 7" works great for me. All you have to do is tilt the GPS mount slightly. No blocked view, and it stays pretty firmly in place with the BMW adapter. I prefer the bigger screen because it's easier to control and also easier to read (aging eyes, lol).
Great video, many thanks! I recently bought the 702 for my 1250GS and it's very nice. Where I'm having a bit of confusion is pairing the intercom to it. I've a Schuberth C4 helmet with the integrated Sena intercom, which has different pairings, one for the phone, the phone secundary and the GPS pairing.....and it's very confusing if pairing it with the bike system or not...well, probably I'll find the way myself, but I've to say I find it quite tricky.
My best tip would be to factory reset the headset and delete ant previous phone bluetooth connections and start again like its fresh out of the box, even the 702 if you have connected it previously and you've had any problems , factory reset that too. Then just try the sena as if it were just connecting to the phone.
Thanks for the good review but I can't for the life of me see why this is any better than just mounting your smartphone directly on the cradle especially since most of us have 6"+ screens anyway. If it did something special like worked with the wonder wheel then I can see it's use but you are still having to prod a touchscreen. All that and you will have to find somewhere else to charge your phone when instead it could be charged while in the cradle. What am. I missing?
@@warnom Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your phone is being shaken about as much in your pocket or panniers as it is in a cradle 😢. Especially so if a cradle has built in shock absorbtion. Of course the answer is a cheap phone.
It looks good! Shame that the mount doesn't sit it neatly inside the BMW cradle. With that gap it is just so easy for someone to get their fingers around it and rip it from the cradle. Pity someone doesn't make a standalone GPS screen that would fit nicely and not need a phone connection. I have got the latest CRN1 but it is crap!

Hi, just got mine today. Eager to fit it off I went into the garage. As this is the one for the GS I thought this would be easy. Oh how wrong was I. Hooked it up on the sat nav bracket and boom. Not working. So held in the power button for over a minute still not working. Yes bike was switched on. So I thought I’d just check it with the usb cable. And not working. So I switched to the other gsa. And it didn’t work on that either. So disappointed. I have contacted Support so we shall see what they say. Hopefully it’s an easy fix or it will have to go back for another.
Just unscrew the back and see if you have the magnet in the back as per my video. Mine didn't have the magnet , bought a stack of small strong ones from amazon, I can use the others on my garage metal racks for securing bits too, so wont go to waste. Works fine now with the magnet installed.
I have to say the 7 inch screen is way too big. And I'm not a fan of the adapter it may be more convenient to pull the screen on and off but it is not as sturdy as mounting it directly to the mounting bar. I ended up getting a chigee unit with the cameras. It comes with a perfect mounting bracket for the GS. Quite happy with the set up. I will never go back to a CarPlay only unit.
I have looked at this and it’s double the cost and only works with Android using your phone sim so wouldn’t work for me but does look like an excellent rugged piece of kit.

Hi, some folks claim they have had no issues with non touchscreen gloves....I am a bit dubious about that myself! All I can say is try it. you may be lucky. If not maybe you needed a new pair of gloves anyway!!!
I wish they could get rid of the huge bezels on the 5 inch to make it even smaller - and slimmer would also be nice. Because the current 5 inch model still looks super bulky classic bikes.
Just got the 5inch more like 4 inch but it’s not the images don’t go to the edge of the screen like old iPhones , I have same bike as yours I also have a video camera front and rear and you cannot conect both on one wifi . Your 502 with blue tooth and wifi but not the camera at same time 🤷🏼♂️

I don’t understand why people buy this while having phone anyway. You will only use nav at the end so buy yourself good phone holder and use the device which you already carry in your pocket. If you have BMW bike this is even more pointless as you can play stop or use nav on you phone via buttons on your handlebar coming build in with bike😂😂😂😂.

Take that back , the magnet was there, it is a small strip of magnetic tape. The reason it did work was because I missed the clear strip of tape, protecting the pins on the back of the cradle. All working fine 😂

Not with the model he reviewed but if you order the W702BS, you can use the whizz wheel AND get bike info (Tire pressure, fuel gauge, ...) as well.

I am looking to replace my crappy nav5 with something, but this setup, while its very nice, its too bulky. I wonder if i could just get a mirror mount from SP connect and a mount for a phone (the setup makes the phone stay very close to the frame), and somehow have that phone listen to the bike's wonderwheel... any idea on such a solution? - oh and i noticed that the W702 is not in the center...
When I mounted the 7 inch I had the bmw cradle removed and it was less in your face. I don't like the bmw cradle mount anyway and took it off pretty much straight away when I took the bike new out of the showroom. Ram mount so some small bar mounts and I used that and that was good. It's on the other videos of the w702. But as a quick fix then the cradle mount bracket is ok. Ask far as what you want to do I have tried using devices connected to the bikes tft via bluetooth and another unit ie Garmin zumo xt and it ended in tears!!!!!!good luck.

hi, I am not sure on that. For apple I don't believe you can use it on CarPlay.

Dummy tech guy here,all new to me,carplay.Will all my phone apps be available on the carplay? In particular, i use a satellite navigation app that runs without phone service. Will this app work on the carplay?
Also, i have downloaded maps on google Maps for when im out of phone service. Will this still work?I apologise for probably simple questions, but it's new to me.
Hi, not sure what apps will run on CarPlay . If you use offline maps then they will still show on the CarPlay no problem.
I'm knocking on now so 7" all the way for me, the bigger the better!

Hi . Suggest unscrew the back as per video and see if magnet is in position . I ordered x20 yizhet 10x4 magnets from Amazon , £7 approx . Needed some for house anyway . Make sure magnet is in the correct way as won’t work if not right way in . Let me know ref any magnets and I will let my contact at Carpuride know .

I have a 1250GS and the 7" works great for me. All you have to do is tilt the GPS mount slightly. No blocked view, and it stays pretty firmly in place with the BMW adapter. I prefer the bigger screen because it's easier to control and also easier to read (aging eyes, lol).
Yes the 7 inch is definitely easier to operate and view for us less young riders 😂

Great video, many thanks! I recently bought the 702 for my 1250GS and it's very nice. Where I'm having a bit of confusion is pairing the intercom to it. I've a Schuberth C4 helmet with the integrated Sena intercom, which has different pairings, one for the phone, the phone secundary and the GPS pairing.....and it's very confusing if pairing it with the bike system or not...well, probably I'll find the way myself, but I've to say I find it quite tricky.
My best tip would be to factory reset the headset and delete ant previous phone bluetooth connections and start again like its fresh out of the box, even the 702 if you have connected it previously and you've had any problems , factory reset that too. Then just try the sena as if it were just connecting to the phone.

Thanks for the good review but I can't for the life of me see why this is any better than just mounting your smartphone directly on the cradle especially since most of us have 6"+ screens anyway.
If it did something special like worked with the wonder wheel then I can see it's use but you are still having to prod a touchscreen.
All that and you will have to find somewhere else to charge your phone when instead it could be charged while in the cradle.

You may not be missing anything right now but you will miss the image stabiliser of your phone’s camera and battery life in the future 😅
@@warnom Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your phone is being shaken about as much in your pocket or panniers as it is in a cradle 😢.
Especially so if a cradle has built in shock absorbtion.
Of course the answer is a cheap phone.
It looks good! Shame that the mount doesn't sit it neatly inside the BMW cradle. With that gap it is just so easy for someone to get their fingers around it and rip it from the cradle. Pity someone doesn't make a standalone GPS screen that would fit nicely and not need a phone connection. I have got the latest CRN1 but it is crap!

Hi, just got mine today. Eager to fit it off I went into the garage. As this is the one for the GS I thought this would be easy. Oh how wrong was I. Hooked it up on the sat nav bracket and boom. Not working. So held in the power button for over a minute still not working. Yes bike was switched on. So I thought I’d just check it with the usb cable. And not working. So I switched to the other gsa. And it didn’t work on that either. So disappointed. I have contacted Support so we shall see what they say. Hopefully it’s an easy fix or it will have to go back for another.
Just unscrew the back and see if you have the magnet in the back as per my video. Mine didn't have the magnet , bought a stack of small strong ones from amazon, I can use the others on my garage metal racks for securing bits too, so wont go to waste. Works fine now with the magnet installed.
5inch is better, less distractions. Did my first ride with 5inch. Took a few kms to get used. But very handy.
I have to say the 7 inch screen is way too big. And I'm not a fan of the adapter it may be more convenient to pull the screen on and off but it is not as sturdy as mounting it directly to the mounting bar. I ended up getting a chigee unit with the cameras. It comes with a perfect mounting bracket for the GS. Quite happy with the set up. I will never go back to a CarPlay only unit.
If you can get your hands on one have a go with the DMD2 T665. I have one and it is excellent.
I have looked at this and it’s double the cost and only works with Android using your phone sim so wouldn’t work for me but does look like an excellent rugged piece of kit.

Hi, some folks claim they have had no issues with non touchscreen gloves....I am a bit dubious about that myself! All I can say is try it. you may be lucky. If not maybe you needed a new pair of gloves anyway!!!
The 5” suits the size of the bike better. They should have designed a slimmer adapter, looks a bit home made.
The 702 is definitely oversized for the GS
I wish they could get rid of the huge bezels on the 5 inch to make it even smaller - and slimmer would also be nice. Because the current 5 inch model still looks super bulky classic bikes.
Possibly in any future update then?
Just got the 5inch more like 4 inch but it’s not the images don’t go to the edge of the screen like old iPhones , I have same bike as yours I also have a video camera front and rear and you cannot conect both on one wifi . Your 502 with blue tooth and wifi but not the camera at same time 🤷🏼♂️

I don’t understand why people buy this while having phone anyway. You will only use nav at the end so buy yourself good phone holder and use the device which you already carry in your pocket. If you have BMW bike this is even more pointless as you can play stop or use nav on you phone via buttons on your handlebar coming build in with bike😂😂😂😂.
Indeed , we all have choices. My choice is CarPlay and all that it brings to the party. Not a fan of phones on snow TBH. Ride safe .😁

Take that back , the magnet was there, it is a small strip of magnetic tape.
The reason it did work was because I missed the clear strip of tape, protecting the pins on the back of the cradle.
All working fine 😂
