Sooo glad I got to see them on this tour. I was only 14 and had just discovered pavement weeks before they announced the show in Columbus. Waited in line for 3 hours and got second row malkmus side. One of the best nights of my life for sure!!!!

The story was that Bob loved to gamble on horses (he may have owned one?) and had lost his shirt doing so, so he lobbied hard for Pavement to cash in on the reunion hype that was going around (Pixies, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., GBV, Archers of Loaf, Breeders all did the same around that time).

They were very stoned in 1994. Really didn't care either. I saw them in 1995 and they were also very stoned but immaculately sloppy and great. Saw them again in 1997 at the Tibetan Freedom Concert and they had sharpened up a lot. Probably slightly sobered up.
I am a student of the whole era from 1978 to present and I say this is the best band of the era by far. No argument but nobody would bother because they don't know.
1:00:40 SM is the first professional I've ever seen actually use the rhythm circuit on a jazzmaster. (Or at least that's what I assume since he's switching back to the lead circuit at the timestamp.)
Nice to see them all having a great time. The one time I saw them back in '96, Malkmus was mind numbingly awful to his bandmates. It really killed the vibes, and made me never want to see them live again, even though they are one of my favorite bands.
They were awful, or rather Stephen was, and I believe they, as most in the crowd, had taken significant amounts of this fruit roll upesque textured mescaline...with a very pejorative moniker. It had gold flecks , within black gel, and the kids were referring to it as _ _ _ _ _ _ with a gold tooth. It's named was unfortunate, and insensitive, to be sure, but it's certainly served the scene...I could care less that Pavement sounded like shit, and they didn't seem that bothered either. Lollapalooza they were terrible as well. The New Orleans gig anyway...did these two fiasco, hinder my adoration for these magnificent bastards. .I'm here aren't I ?????? So no, not at all.

He actually said to me that Stephen was doing so good that he didn't need them. It was kind of a bummer statement. Exactly 2 summers later, I saw the reformed Pavement on that exact same fucking spot. 2010. I also met him quickly after a Sonic Youth gig when he was playing bass for them.
You'd think that, by agreeing to doing a reunion tour, Malkmus wouldn't act like such a jerk during songs he didn't write. It's not like Kannenberg didn't write some ace tunes.
Malkmus plays a solo on Gold Soundz here with like the guitar bout to drop that would take me a month to learn and be seated carefully the whole time seesh
