+Theodor5150 I drive a 98 accord lx with 214,00 miles on it so far. It had some repairs done to it, but otherwise it still runs well and hope it will last.
I love the interior of the Honda. I own a Cruze similar to this. The Honda definitely has some pros over the Cruze but man do I love driving the Cruze and the styling. It’s simply such an amazing car. A year later and I’m still keeping it looking new. Not to mention the drive is so damn smooth!!

@@cherylann1602if you buy the steering wheel with the cruise control I'm pretty sure it will work. On the 1st gen the cruise control was just whether or not the steering wheel had the buttons. Now sure if it's the same with the current 2nd gen.

I just had my 09 Civic Si totalled by an idiot with no insurance. I wanted another Civic, but I got way more for my money with the 2015 Cruze LTZ RS. I like both. My only complaint so far with the Cruze is there's almost zero storage inside the car. The center console can maybe hold a wallet and checkbook, that's literally about it. My Civic Si was deep with places to story things. Love both, but I'm definitely loving the gas mileage on the LTZ. Although they both are comparable in the 2016 models listed. I love the front of the new civic, but the back end is ugly in my opinion. Both great cars. I'll stick with my 2015 Cruze over that weird 2016.

The main difference is the Honda will go 300k miles before an issue while your Chevy is at the shop for the 50th time trying to figure out wtf is wrong w it.
Also Laura, you forgot to mention that the Cruze also has heated seats as well as available 8" touch screen and the remote link app that allows you to start the car from the smartphone as well as check location of vehicle, tire pressure, oil life, and other info.

Personally, I'd rather have a side-by-side tach and speedometer, instead of that huge tach with the tiny digital speedometer. It's more important to know how fast you're going than your engine rpms. Other than that, the Civic is a decent looking car and seems bigger than previous generations.

its an enthusiast thing, i love the giant tachometer, its really interesting and fun to look at. i don't really need to look at my speedometer that much anyways, i go with the flow of traffic. The speedo is just 2 numbers at the end of the day and it's pretty easy to see regardless, but the tach can tell you a whole story. You're cruising and the car says you are getting 20 mpg? Tach is at 3k? Lift off a little to go down to 1.5k, much better mileage and you're also getting information about how hard your car is working, the wear on your engine and transmission, etc.

it's not really a versus if you're a Honda salesperson lol there are so many features in the Cruze she didn't mention and basically demoed the Honda in its entirety, didn't mention how Chevy gives more warranty, how you can get wifi, sun roof, on star send diagnostics to your cell and dealership so if you have low tire pressure or whatever you get an alert and if something else is wrong the dealership is notified so they can set up an appt for you, the Cruze is also more spacious....it doesn't help if you push the seat back all the way..... with the Honda both seats were up to the front. both are good cars but this video was kinda pointless

I agree with you, Laura! I had a 2012 Chevy Cruze. It was in the shop 8 times in less than 2 years. Switched to a 2013 Honda Accord--no regrets!

this girl's presentation skillz is like a civic cheap but good bang for the buck
I just got a cruze that has the exact same color and features. I like the engine start stop while driving in the city, it does help save fuel. However, I really wish that there was an option to disable eco mode while accelerating on the interstate ramp.
BTW, if you did get the convenience package car, then why is there no sunroof ? That's supposed be one of the features.

Civic is nice on the inside but awkward on the outside. The new turbo in the civic is enticing. The new Cruze I like inside and out I like that the car is lighter and faster and more fuel efficient than the last generation which I currently have. I just came from test driving the two. I am loving the civic but I am equally loving the Cruze. That said, both really don't see benefits one over the other. Even the handling. So I am leaning toward the new Cruze for an upgrade, with the Civic as contingency if I cannot get a Cruze how I want it in specs
Try the Cruze LT with the RS package... It is something else...

this is the first time i would actually consider a civic. i own a 2011 cruze up to more than 130k miles and never had any issues or bad experiences. i wanted to get a new one now but i can't justify it yet. after test driving a 2016 cruze i loved it but the civic is still so tempting

Hondas are plagued with road noise is what i've heard from the general public , i'm not sure if it still stands true. Although civic has a more powerful engine , it can't beat a Cruze in Room Isolation i.e Cruze is a much quieter car on the highways than the civics.

My family has had three recent Chevrolets and every single one has rusted within 100,000 miles. I don't mean a little rust here and there either. I mean serious corrosion of structural components of the car like front control arms as well as the side rails on the frame. Look around and you'll see this problem on a number of Chevys.
Now, consider that two of the three cars have had serious electrical issues. Malfunctioning seat belt sensors, failing instrument panel, fuel pump failure at 85,000 miles, remote key fob failure, etc. I will not buy GM until they stop producing cars that have to be trashed at 100,000 miles. The Honda is uglier, but the better car.

My first car was my mom's old 04 LS malibu with the 3.5 V6... and it ran until around 280k miles before I forgot cars needed oil changes and blew the thing up... Buut, the only spot that had rust was a penny size dot on the trunk and little specks on the hood. The under body was fine and nothing needed to be replaced. The ppl who bought the car from us, gave us 500 bucks and just put a new engine and transmission in it and sent us pictures of that old thing still on the road today.
Compared two different trim levels, civic was optioned out way better? And you practically bashed it the entire time, why compare them?

Not even a fair comparison. Comparing a honda civic, the current market leader and gold standard for compact cars to a bottom rank chevy cruz is like having a prize fighter battle a blind man. Not even a close fight at all.
2016 civic it's clean but the bad thing about is when you open the hood looks like a mess. can't really do any upgrades. The ratio of each hose it's a check engine light. I wish they would have taken more time in it.

Buying Brand New Chevy Cruze Makes me Sad
Dear car customers around the world:
I bought a brand new Chevy Cruze, manual transmission, on December 10, 2016. One day after (December 11, 2016), while the car was parked at the curb, it rolled down the road hitting another car on its way down. I am sure that I had engaged the parking brake, indicated by the “!” symbol displayed in red on the instrument panel.
I’ve been raising to General Motors Corporation (GMC) this question - why is it that the said Cruze, in neutral transmission, rolled down the slope even though the parking brake symbol, “!” (in red color), is displayed on the car’s instrument panel?
The GMC explained that: “by design intent, the parking brake warning lamp on the instrument panel (!) will illuminate with the brake lever is raised to the first detent position (first audible click). However, this warning is not an indicator that the parking brake has been fully engaged. Specifically, the Chevrolet Cruze Owner’s Manual Instructs the owner to pull firmly (on the lever) without pressing the release button, in order to engaged the parking brake correctly. The primary purpose of illuminating the park brake warning lamp, even when the parking brake is not fully engaged, is to prevent the operator from driving the vehicle with parking brakes partially engaged.” (letter sent to me by GMC dated April 11, 2017).
I disagree with the above explanation by GMC. I maintain that a technical deficiency persists between the engagement of parking brakes with respect to the warning light (!). The Cruze Owner’s Manual does not state anything related to partially-engaged and fully-engaged parking brakes with same warning light (!) displayed on the instrument panel.
I am submitting GMC’s explanation, as quoted above, for your views and comments. Thank you and drive safely.

Not a fan of either but the comparison is not equal. RS trim would have been the fair review.
The Civic 1.5T has better throttle response then the Chey Cruze. With the Cruze, it has the throttle lack so as you press on the gas the car does not quickly respond...feels like you're on Eso mode.
I tried to look on this 2 cars differences but my eyes keeps on looking you...I donno y?
What civic doesn't have: Factory Remote vehicle start, Onstar with Phone App, 160k kms 5yrs powertrain warranty, Built in 4G wifi, Blindspot Monitoring, Proper 6spd Auto (in comparison to rubbery cvt)
Well Turab, civic does have standard remote engine start on the majority of their trims, 5 year/60k powertrain warranty on all Honda's, Lane Watch & back up camera standard, 2year/24k roadside assistance, HondaLink Assist, and a 1.5L Turbo engine with 24 more Hp... but who's keeping score? lol -HL
Why doesn't Honda put lane watch on the left side mirror? It would be a lot more help too!
what idont get is why all the new cars have steering wheels with the bottom covered up. My old car has a hole on the bottom so i can grab the wheel from the bottom.
also the back seat doesnt look spacious in the civic..she looks cramped, and by the way she was talking made it sound like she was short.
The best thing to do is to actually sit in one.

A hard choice . To my view :
_The front of the Honda is more attractive but the back uglier than the Chevy.
_The engine layout of the Chevy is very good .
_The interior of the Honda ( steering wheel, dashboard , storage ideas ) is more refined.
Finally I think I will go for the Civic .
Lady , you have a nice skirt ( perfect for summer ).
civic also is maintainable as in changing the oil and all that is easy new American cars need dealership changes also civic is a hidden super car for the engine is capable of 1400hp on the type R model with some tuning and civic has better resale with better reliability
One car will still be worth money in 5 years, one car will not.

just wait for 7 to 10 years and see which one is getting rusted first !! and I'm assuming probably the Chevy Cruz will be falling apart in about 8 years the sing of rust will be obvious. the same goes for GM Trucks as well !!

I used to have a civic, now I have a cruze hatchback.
I prefer the front of the new cruze, but I prefer the back of the new civic.
The civic is faster, but the cruze has start&stop.
The civic is prettier inside, but the cruze has the OnStar.
It's a hell of a fight... I had 2 civic's, but I think I would go for the 2017 cruze hatchback.
Theres no question on reliability
Better comparison than expected. Back seat shows however the bias more. For example, pointed out the pockets on the back of each seat in the Honda. Did not do the same to point out the pockets on the back seat of the Chevy. Exact same feature, only pointed out on one car. However, have to credit they do talk about OnStar - they did not have to do that. I think she tried to be as unbiased as possible. Me? I like both cars. Probably I would be looking at the Honda Accord and Chevy Malibu/Buick Regal when I look to replace my 2006 Saab 9-3 with 146,000 on it and nearly no repairs (alternator at 70,000 and power steering pump at 140,000). Probably will look at the hybrid model of each - they both look like really good cars!

good suggestion for you, when you are talking about HP and Torque you should also state the RPM of which it reaches those particular points.
for the the same price, I'd pick the Civic base set over the Chevy base set. but at my local dealers, the 2016 Honda Civic is 20k or so, and the 2017 Chevy Cruze is only 15k for some reason... at that price, I go with the Cruze

You can't compare the Civic with the Cruze, the Cryze doesn't even stand nearby the Civic . . The Malibu is an excellent comparission.

A turbocharger may not be what you want after 70 months when you find out costs of maintaining and long-term effects on powertrain...same goes with CVT transmissions.... and I don't means Hondas' in particular....ANYBODYS' CVT OR TURBO!

Laura, was the arm rest in the Civic too low in your opinion? To me, the height of the arm rest can make or break a deal. Oh, and please tell Honda to put the blasted volume knob back on the radio! How many critics have to bring this up!

Laura & Nat, I just purchased the Honda Civic EX model and the knob definitely gets to me. Although, i'm loving the touch assist on the steering wheel, a knob wouldn't hurt. The arm rest, @Nat Washburn, was another make it or break it (especially for a guy at 6'2",) but to my surprise is comfortable enough. Great comparison video and to all, not a bad car.

+Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk :-) I get sick of cars fast , i trade up every year and a half. I lease, but i still see and have to pay the depreciation fees when i trade in, so i try and pay attention to the depreciation value now on cars.
Cruze is way more beautiful than Civic and I like the Auto stop mode its beat the Civic cause of that's because it's a real plus on gas saving and auto stop is the new shit.
Really nice review with nice and clear details of each car. Nice videography as well. But it seems that something is missing and review seems to be focussing somewhere else and hence most of the comments are irrelevant as well of the basic subject of this review.I guess the video could be made more better with less distractions. Otherwise the review itself was pretty much helpful and most awaited comparison that people are looking for in this segment. Keep up! Thumbs up! and am eagerly awaiting for new Honda Accord review, but with some real professionalism in car review :) .
