Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to do this. As a late-comer to console gaming (60+ years old), I will undoubtedly be rubbish at it and end up using ‘Story Mode’ (assuming there is one). I am absolutely loving all the explanations and points you are making in this video. I'm not a fan of video games but all the insights and descriptions about the culture and background is fascinating to me.. True, I could go and learn Chinese history someplace else, but honestly, your presentation is a whole lot more interesting. I'm definitely going to check out your videos about the Qin. It's one element of Chinese dramas that I want to know more about. My husband and I made a 3 day tour into China back in the 90's but never saw the Dazu Rock carvings. If we visit China again, it will be on the short list of places to visit! On another note, your clothing is gorgeous today. Did you buy it online from China? Thanks so much for being "the Chinese lady" and sharing your thoughts and observations! Oh, wait. I just found the video you made in 2017 about your clothing collection. Beautiful pieces!

Kudos to the fantastic narrative! Superb combination of background, interpretation and translation!
Only thing that may be a bit different from the novel is that, even the white dragon (亢金龙) cannot make a crack on the weapon (Jinnao 金铙) that trapped Wukong. As a matter of fact none of the heavenly gods who came to help can damage it with their "regular" weapons. That is when the dragon proposed that he tries to drill a tiny hole on the Jinnao with his horn, with the hope then Wukong can find a small space from where the horn comes in and then sneak out (Wukong can shrink himself). His horn indeed managed to drill into the Jinnao but still there was no gap/space at all, as if the Jinnao was alive and somehow "grew" to the horn. With no choice, Wukong asked the dragon to bear the pain as he transformed his own weapon into a drill and drilled a hole on the dragons horn. Then he shrank himself, hid inside the horn and finally got out of the trap when all the gods helped to pull the dragon off from the Jinnao. Another great chapter and this reminds me the time reading the novel...

So it has been a year I subscribed to your channel, I am glad you decided to make a second video for this second trailer. I have been to all the temples presented in this trailer. The Shanxi Jinchen's jade emperor temple and the Shaanxi Lantian's Shuilu temple are the most difficult to get to and off the beaten paths. They are absolutely magnificent in real life and totally worth a day trip each from the nearest provincial capitals. Thank you once again for this wonderfully prepared introduction of these Chinese acient arts, which most Chinese themselves do not even know of, to the world. You could talk about this trailer for hours and I would probably still think it's too short. ;p Also, even a non gamer like yourself commented on the snow, which made me smile. 😁
Most of the English speaking youtubers have commented on the graphics and the gameplay with only one I've seen kinda touched on the actual story of Journey to the West (cannot comment on the Manadarin speaking ones, other than the fact one of them sang part of the ending theme to the TV series at the end of her reaction). They ARE gamers, so it's only natural. At the same time, I did want some context, as well as confirm some of my suspicions of the scene. So I am glad to see you tackle this for us non-Mandarin speakers.

In my county there are more than 29 different cultures and that's only local. I love your content, I love your way of educating most of us that are so not knowledgeable. So I appreciate your content. You are giving us an insite into the book the story and the culture. This might only be appreciated by some but it is so thank you. Yes it's a game.... But we must remember... It stems from a story from someone who loves a long time ago .. which makes it an actual legend. Wu Chen'en the oringal story teller of journey to the west wrote this as much of a comedy. I watched most of the versions but there is only few I loved. But Chinese culture always intrigued me. Chinese mythology in a whole is fascinating..... Oh my god your clips are so interesting in this 30 minute clip there is never a moment where I get bored your storytelling is great. I like the drama 西遊記 very much, I watched almost everyof them but I like 西遊記 1996 the most.

Too many compliments to list. Engrossing, informative and very well presented. For those in the West it helps us to understand the depth of the moral lessons and cultural/historical references from the story. I loved the show in the 80's as a child, and I spotted the references from a trailer of the game. Which in turn brought me here. Thanks so much 😊

You are an astonashing and wise person, it's a pleasure to learn more about chinese history and culture from someone like you. My mom was a hindu and her best friend was a chinese girl whom's parents were buddhists. My mom accompanied Katrine to the temple every week. I love chinese myth lore. If I'm not mistaken they told me as a young child that there was a female buddha, a princess who had to cut off her both hands to rescue her father. Do you know this story and could you tell us more about it or correct me?
I love how you elaborate with such passion and precision on certain topics. IM A FAN

as soon as I watch the recent Black Myth trailer, I goes right to your channel hahaha. I grew up watching the 1996 version of Journey to The West (although its not as popular as the 80s version) and got hook by the Chinese mythological culture and history even take mandarin class for a year in college.
Watching your video is very informative and you provide such detail explanation on the Journey to The West references that I very fond with.
Thank you so much, I hope sometimes in the future when the game comes out, you are interested to play first hand. 老师,谢谢 😁

With the game just released I can only think of you - the Chinese lady who speaks perfect English, understand Chinese cultural thoroughly, has experience in media production in China to explain maybe not the entire game but just the animation cut scene? I saw them and I loved them very much not just for the aesthetic which I think are very cinematic but also for the deep deep meaning behind. I grew up with Journey to the West and I love the original series and this game gave one add new layers of meaning and I would love to understand what are those and you are the perfect candidate to explain . I know AvenueX is not a game channel but this game have a ton of meanings behind those beautiful action scene and cartoon (some I would say on par with Love Death and Robot). Please please spend you precious time to see them , I believe not just me but many other players have the same desire to know and to understand. Thanks

When I see how much culture Chinese have been able to preserve, it just makes me angrier at Indian leaders of the past who just let our heritage get burried under their personal propaganda

    • @massalleh5255

      Really?
I actually thought it is impressive many indians (in INDIA) still wearing traditional dress as opposed to average chinese which now adopted western wear as their casual wear. This is coming from me who often harbors negative opinion on India as a country. But still Indian earns lots of points for the strength of their traditional culture. The clothing, religions, food n spices, dance etc. Just not your politics though. The chinese are the same. Except that their attire and their manners bears more resemblance with the west

In the Journey to the West novel, Wukong’s clone vellus is a gift from a bodhisattva. It is a leaf from an immortal tree and then attached to Monkey King’s head to become his vellus hair. From then on, Monkey can summon his own clone shadows using his vellus hair. So, please don't say that it is the shadow avatar technique in Naruto. PS: The author of Naruto admitted that his inspiration came from Journey to the West, and the character of Dragon Ball also came from Journey to the West in China.
