Thanks so much for the support from all of you. Our team will continue on the game development. Also the community contributions (subtitles) just turned ON for this video. Thanks again!
Please make at least Russian and English subtitles in the game. The Russians have a large audience and we are also waiting for this game. I am delighted with the game
@@KryptsCorner from their interview, they said they are lacking of peoples, not money. One of the reason they release this teaser trailer now is to attract more talented peoples to join their team. They did this with around 30 peoples and their target is to increase the team size to 80 to 100 peoples. But I guess extra funding is good as well
Hello everyone, we finally added our official UA-cam CC. Thanks to Mr. Siyang Gao, the translator of Discworld. He helped us to polish and revise our in-game translation. So the subtitles are a bit different from in-game ones. Please do not feel confused. Thanks!
If the dev team is reading this. just want to let you guys know man, that music at the end brings tears to my eyes. Journey to the West was such an integral part of my childhood and other Vietnameses'. I hope other characters Tang Sanzang, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing show up later in the game or the sequels. All the best with the game development. Can't wait.
It's not even so much a matter of "how close". Aside from a few visual cue's for stuff like charging up a heavy attack, and particle effect differences.... graphics fidelity is pretty much EXACTLY as shown. Crazy when you look at games that have come out SINCE this video went live.
When you're a kid, there's a special kind of awestruck that you get when you see something cool that you've never seen anything like before. As an adult, it can feel like you'll never feel this sense of infatuation ever again. I'd like to thank the makers of this for reminding me that I can still feel a sense of wonder even at my age.
I got that feeling too! I think it because Chinese mythology is so unfamiliar to Western gamers. I was awestruck at the creatures, and general design of the game. Very cool
The game got its basis from actual myths and gave it a inspiration to create this gorgeous looking game. Here are some some fun facts about this video if you are not familiar with eastern culture: Journey to the West (which this game is based on) is also is a classic novel in Chinese mythology. It focuses on the adventure of one of the main character, "Sun Wukong" in the novel. His mischievous acts of going to Heaven and causing trouble made Buddha punish him by trapping him in a mountain for 500 years. He was released after he promised to help a Buddhist monk go from China to India to obtain Buddhist holy books. On their journey, they face many obstacles (novel says 9*9=81, that is, 81 obstacles) and have many adventures. Also *Sun Wukong* in the West often called *Monkey King* (Son Goku in Japanese, hello DBZ fans!) or simply Monkey (Saru in Japanese), is a main character, he is The Great Sage and his power is equal to heavens and he is a prominent cultural and folkloric figure across Asia. * 1:40 - This flying cicada is actually Wukong’s Master who is known as "Golden Cicada" (金蝉子) - or this transformation tecnique performed and learnt by Wukong from his master into becoming Cicada to wander around without enemy noticing his presence. This monk is the reincarnation of Golden Cicada, a disciple of the Buddha too lazy to work to achieve enlightenment so much to fall asleep during a sermon, so he is forced to reincarnate many times to become Tripitaka (Xuanzang is his actual name and he is refered to as Tripitaka which is his name in English version of the story and it is a traditional honorific for a Buddhist monk). Being him an important character makes him extremely attractive for all the demons he encounters on his way (as we see in the video that he is attacked or searched by Youkai in the video), as it was believed that eating his flesh made the demon become immortal. This monk is also protected by Wukong when he was the right hand of Buddha. * 2:23 - One of Wukong's abilities is the paralysis (body freezing) spell * 3:28 - This isn't related to the myth, but it's fun to note that most of the Monkey Staff attacks are based on actual Shaolin Kung Fu. One of which you climb the staff (obviously the game exaggerates tho). Also his trademark staff (called 金箍棒 (jin gu bang)) is one of the magical pillars of the Ocean Dragon's Palace. It's a divine pole that works to stable the sea. He eventually took it which really causes a havoc in the early days before he was punished. * 3:51 - One of Wukong's abilities is the barrier (protective circle) spell * 4:04 - In the legend Wukong pulls his staff from his fur/ear... so him "sheathing" the lance in his fur/ear seems like a reference to that * 4:20 - That monster looks like Ayakashi (鬼怪) or also known as Yokai which is a class of supernatural monsters, spirits and demons from Japanese folklore. They are eclectically from the malevolent to the mischievous, or occasionally bring good fortune to those who encounter them. * 4:45 - Shows an Earth God (there are many) * 6:37 - In the legend Wukong is capable of tranforming into a giant and scary version of himself. This is possibly a reference to that, despite being much smaller. Wukong have 72 transformations in general, so whatever transformation u see in this video is base on that. Wukong has 5 types of immortality too. The one he learned his transformations, skills and magic from 须菩提, or subhuti (Master Puti/the Master of the Sun). He became immortal when he crossed his name out of hell’s archives, then he hate the immortal peaches, and then he drank the immortal wine, and finally he ate the immortal pills. So yeah, Wukong is basically immortal. * 8:52 - One of Wukong's abilities is transforming his hairs into clones of himself, like Kage Bunshin no Jutsu from Naruto universe. * 9:11 - Wukong is often seen taking the appearance of others. Usually it's used to trick his enemies but in this case it seems devs change it to also get the powers of the one he defeated at around 2:51 * 10:37 - The guy that stops you (the player) is actually Sun Wukong (with the classic metal armor and headpiece with the 2 giant feathers). This is quite a plot twist since we we're led to believe we we're Wukong up until now. And also the five shining characters on the golden staff that block player's attack is "如意金箍棒" ( Ruyi Jingu Bang as i mentioned above), implied that it's the real legendary weapon which wielded by Sun Wukong in the novel. * 11:09 - Wukong is forced to wear a circlet that would cause him extremes headaches. I remember reading in wiki but can't remember if it was done by the Buddha in order to restrain him while he accompanies the monk in his journey to west or as a trick by the Dragon King in retaliation for forcing the Dragon King to gift him weapons. Edit: According to @TheWowWow88, The circlet was granted by Guan Yin to Tripitaka to control Wukong (prevent him from any misdeeds) during his journey. * 11:16 - If you pause at 11:17 you can see a glimpse of "Sha Wujing", also known as Sha Heshang is one of the main protagonists in the 1592 Chinese classic novel Journey to the West by the late Wu Cheng'en, and its multiple adaptations. He is the one who carries the luggages for all Xuanzang's (Tripitaka in many English versions of the story as mentioned before) party. * 11:20 - The next scene, I believe it is 黄袍怪 (huang pao guai), who was 奎木狼(kui mu lang), one of the 28 Stars. He fell in love with a girl so he went away with her to the human world. I saw a wolf status standing in the room so I think I am right. * 11:23 - This is a very famous monster called 白骨精(bai gu jing), and this is its real shape. In the fiction, Bai gu jing showed 3 times. Once was the shape of a girl, the second time was an old woman, and the third time was an old man, but was beaten by Wukong every time. * 11:30 - This is Lei Shen, the God of Thunder * 11:34 - That might being is Bird God Garuda and is probably one of the most powerful characters in the fiction. He is the son of Phoenix, and he has a sister, a peacock, who is the Mahamayuri, Buddha's mother. He appeared in 狮驼岭(shi tuo ling), as the 3rd king. (1st king is a lion, 2nd is a white elephant.) * 11:38 - This is Juling Shen, a gigant River God * 11:44 - These are the Four Heavenly Kings, the Buddhist protective deities * 11:49 - The classic "flying cloud" and we see the dragon flies through the sky which might be Bai Longma, a dragon prince son of the "Dragon King of the West Sea" * 11:52 - In the legend, Wukong actually invades the heavens, basically beating every god single-handedly and it seems like we'll get to play this part too which is really awesome! Also, the game didn't really show off just how strong the Ruyi Jingu Bang (monkey staff) is and we can only get to see how it can change size as big as sweeping everyone around him. PS: Those armies that he is trying to defeat in this part are the Heavenly Soldiers. The soldiers that protect the heaven. That's the all the references i got from this teaser like i might skipped some of them but if you see any more references then let me know below, i will edit this message accordingly. Edit: Also, the music at the end of the clip is the iconic theme of the extremely famous "Journey to the West" series in China(by "TheWowWow88"). And here i thought why those tunes sounded so familiar which gave me so much goosebumps! Edit2: It's about other guy that stops Wukong in the video (by Xniper) that i'd like to also share his comment here too: "i think that we are sun wukong, the other guy is the imposter Six Eared Macaque, and im pretty sure that he didnt killed the real wukong. He's more like the counterpart of the same wukong, his evilness, his dark side taking part on the story trying to deceive everyone showing that he is the most powerful one to consume everything and transform himself in that god title thing that the real wukong wanted to achieve, but to control everything as a god, the most powerful and not a benevolent one. When he killed Six Eared Macaque, he change his personality because he was at peace now, he won againts his darkness and grew from the inside, it cleaned his soul confronting his evilness. I dont think that Six Eared Macaque took his position, it is more like a metaphor between his true self VS the self that could have been with his dark emotions and ambitions". EDIT 3: Another fun fact to be mentioned by "Wshch 01": The Black Wind Mountain(黑风山 hei feng shan) where this trailer took place was in the original novel. When Wukong and Sanzang got here the first time. They spent one night in the temple. The monks there tried to burn down the temple together with Wukong and Sanzang to rob Sanzang's precious kasaya(buddha cloth). This is the fire that the earth god was referring. The Black Bear spirit came from his cave to help with the fire(surprisingly he is not bad), but got greedy and took the kasaya for his coming Birthday in two days. Wukong found out about the theft as well as the upcoming Birthday party(Lingxuzi, the wolf boss was invited as a close friend). However, the black bear spirit was scared of him and hid in his cave. Wukong then called Guanyin for help (given this temple is built for Guanyin). They met Lingxuzi on the way to the cave and Wukong killed him in one hit(lol, literally what happened, dunno how he came back to life in the game). Guanyin transformed into Lingxuzi and Wukong transformed into a gift pill (supposed to lengthen one's life by 1000 years). The black bear spirit took the pill and got rekt by Wukong. He was then taken away by Guanyin to guard one of his Mountain.
The first ever gameplay for an upcoming game being 13 minutes of PURE gameplay for the game the developers want to sell?! Be still my swooning heart! And the gameplay is sick as fuck too?! To any of the devs that can read english here, can we get a version of this trailer with english subs? I'm suddenly SUPER excited for this game. Can't wait to hear about what platforms this game will be for and, hopefully, western release.
In the name of all our dearest friends that dreamt so hard in playing this game and passed away before they could do it... Thank you so much, Game Sicience. You made it. We salute you.
It’s honestly amazing that Black Myth Wukong went from a pre-alpha proof of concept to a full game in just 4 years. Dev cycles for a lot of games now take about twice that long.
8 years is not an average dev cycle. Sure, sometimes games, like Cyberpunk, Metroid Dread, Spore etc. takes nearly a decade, but they are the exceptions. An average cycle is much closer to 4-5 years. Also, this video is far more than pre alpha, this is basically the finished game. I would assume that this was a vertical slice and the rest of the game wasn't even close to this finished but, just my guess. All that doesn't take away from the accomplishment. They made a really fantastic game, and put it out in a finished state with few bugs and no microtransactions. And boy oh freakin boy did it pay off for them. The sales are staggering.
Never ever has any game trailer ever made me sit here with mouth hanging open, gasping with awe like this did. Goosebumps! The character design, the details in the environment, the fantasy realism, the combat, the weapons and abilities, all of it blows many games out of the water. This looks beyond incredible and I am excited for it to come out. Holy cow.
Look up “Lost souls aside” it’s a game that is being made primarily by 1 person. He didn’t get help until people decided to help him/sponsor him late in the game development

Yeah I was thinking the same - I was kinda sad to see Chapter 6 so BIG and BEAUTIFUL but you could clearly tell that it was rushed juding by how much was just left empty there, so that they could bring out an actual finished product that was working on day 1 (which is crazy to see from such a studio these days, compared to triple A companies) but you could tell that there is so much left that they will use for the dlc. Man, I'm so stocked.
Exactly! DLC may include after the destined one became wukong you will go up and fight the celestial once again, I believe they had that planed all along. Also there will be new stance new skills. Very excited.
@@Zombie_Hobo I ve watched another chinese interview, they were actually playing this demo during the clips, and they editted off the end part after the boss fight. ua-cam.com/video/CTYoDre2S7I/v-deo.html
I dunno how many times I watched this trailer since yesterday. I'm super impressed by your work. It feels like you put everything you have in it, heart and soul. I'm gonna read the books while waiting for the game.
You guys created a masterpiece. I can't afford to play this game but still this game is game of the year. Everything is perfect about this game. Huge respect from india🇮🇳🙏🏻
Going back to the first trailer, today I cleared the game, it took me about 100 hours in total, but I only got about 60 + achievements, and I'm ready to go on the road again. Congratulations, Game Science, it's a great game!
Finished the game yesterday (good ending). Possibly top 3 of the best gamers I have ever played. Trully a masterpiece! Thank you. A lot of the scenes didn't go into the game. I would love a game that follows journey to the west... Lot's of us westerners won't read it and I feel a game is an amazing way to tell and adapt the story. Being the destined one is great; being Sun Wukong for the entire game should be amazing (since lots of us didn't grow up with him as a hero). Can't wait for the DLC!
Absolutely incredible, trailer genuinely looks like the first next generation game out there. I hope you guys are able to release this game to the rest of the world.
dude, at 9:45 the giant beast got caught on fire, and then literally shook off the ailment status... That's a gorgeous level of detail in gameplay and animation
According to their website, they played a bunch of monster hunter hence such lovely reactive elements from the enemies. They also cited Sekiro and God of war as inspiration
Holy crap, this looks awesome. I can't believe that this is an indie game and it already looks so much better than ~90% of the AAA games that we get these days. Black Myth, I don't feel like this often these days anymore, but you managed to win me over ! This is already one of my most anticipated upcoming games and please, please take your time making it ! edit. It seems that I've been misinformed and that this isn't an indie game after all. My apologies for spreading false information. But the game still looks far better than the ~90% of the AAA games that we keep getting these days.
People need to understand what "indie" actually means. Its Vague but in general Its simply 'Independent / no external funding or support from a publisher ect..' it doesn't mean that a handful of people slapped it together in a basement in their free time. This game is definitely AAA and is costing many many millions of dollars to make and payroll the 30-40man team creating it. Whoever has been finding it for the last 2 years to this point is LOADED!.
There have been soooo many instances of games looking gorgeous in their trailers and when the game actually releases they are severely downgraded. Please, don't get "won over" from official gameplay trailers. You'll only get jaded and burned like me.
@@bennemann I'm not being "won over" from it. All I'm saying it looks really good and its up to the developers to live up to those expectations that their trailer gave me.
@@MrZoid1980 They already have two mobile games and one of them is very successful. A 30-man company can't be compared with corporations like Activision, EA, or Ubisoft. Unless they are bought by Tencent, they still fit the definition of indie company.
O.O i didn't think it was ever possible to put Sun Wukong in a game without watering his legend down...i have been proven wrong...THIS LOOKS INCREDIBLE! XD
@@jjabblePlayStation The guys behind Fallout new Vegas(widely considered one of the best reactive RPGs of all time) are making their own Skyrim set in the pillars of eternity universe for Microsoft but sure that isn't exciting at all!. But "hALo graFuKs bAd!!!".You're an idiot and demented clown. Maybe don't be a basement turbo-virgin that derives his sense of worth from the type of vidoe game he can't play?. 0:08 - 1:17 Old Monkey's speech in Chapter 6, but the "This story starts with a golden cicada" line was omitted from the final release. Speaking of Old Monkey, his first design in this trailer was more human-like instead of being a full-on monkey. 1:38 - 2:13 Scenario-exclusive transformations like the Golden Cicada from CH. 1: Black Cloud, Red Fire, and the bat from CH. 3: White Snow, Ice Cold were supposed to be the intended Transformations. The Transformations like Azure Dome and Red Tides were seemingly different according to the trailer (see the symbol(s) on the bottom-right corner). 2:28 Heavy Attacks didn't rely on Focus in the original concept. You simply just charge and go, but the 5 min. gameplay trailer would eventually use the focus meter system but it was too reliant on Perfect Dodges. 2:34 Staff Throw was originally a part of the base moveset prior to being exclusively locked in the secret Wukong Stance in the final release. 2:39 Staff Spin/Mobile Spin was originally a stance, now a fundamental move as of final release. 3:14 Rock Solid uses a different icon. 3:30 Pillar Stance's Heavy Attack was Smash Stance's finisher prior to becoming a separate stance of its own and the Light Attack Combo finisher gained a new animation. 3:52 The Light Attack combo of the Spear-type weapons was originally reserved for Thrust Stance. 3:57 Thrust Stance's Heavy Attack was the finisher before giving it a new one in the final release. 4:08 Able to use more than one Transformation unlike in the final release. 4:22 Wandering Wight. 6:37 Azure Dome being available at the beginning, notice how the attacks are open-handed and how the Heavy Attack is performed four times. Those are the same attack animations the Stone Monkey boss uses in Chapter 6. In the final release, Azure Dome's light attacks use punches and the heavy attack is only a single leap. 7:59 The second attack of Spear/Thrust Stance's Light Attack Combo hits thrice, but it only hits twice in final release. I don't know if it's intentional or a bug on release. 8:12 Spin Stance's Light Attack Combo, notice how the first hit looks exactly like the Wukong Stance's sprinting light attack. 9:12 Guangzhi's Glaive Throw, though in the final release, the move is only exclusive to the boss and not to the transformation itself. It seems that Transformations were originally more sophisticated than what we have now. 8:53 A Pluck of Many but it has the Life-Saving Strand's icon. Unlike in the final release, which spawns six clones once the spell is maxed out, the trailer shows approx. 10 clones instead. 10:56 We can see here that Sun Wukong is wearing the Original Monkey King's Armor Set, which can be found at the starting point (I believe) of Chapter 6: Unfinished, stored inside a chest. Also, notice how his eyes glowed upon opening them? This was the same thing that happened to the Destined One upon achieving the True Ending of the final release. 11:10 The Destined One still has the Golden Headband. (discarded piece of in-game story) 11:20 A snake guai as a boss. Possibly scrapped, but could make a return in the DLCs, one may hope. 11:24 Centipede Guai in Chapter 2, I think? 11:28 A different version of Churning Gale, possibly a finisher like in God of War. 11:31 Possibly a scrapped final boss for Chapter 1, because in the final release, this is where we fought Black Bear Guai. 11:35 A Yaoguai Chief (possibly) that looks like the Supreme Celestial Inspector, but has an eagle for a head instead of a hand. 11:39 Fuban. 11:50 Kang-Jin Loong in Chapter 6, I assume? Because the environment looks like Mount Huaguo. 11:55 A scrapped horde battle against the Celestial Army (possibly the original tutorial prior to fighting Erlang, Sacred Divinity), and Wukong is using a different set of attacks in this one. Possibly meant for either Wukong Stance or Pillar Stance.
It seems like the original idea is you playing as the actual Wukong and fighting against the Six-Eared Macaque (which explains the 'Some say it's not the real him that attain Buddhahood, the real him is already dead on the journey' spoken by the Old Monkey character and another Wukong appeared at the end of Lingxuzi boss fight). But that storyline got scrapped and you played as the 'Destined One' instead.
This looks absolutely increible. And the realism on that fur and how it caught fire and how the wolf creature tried to put it out.... such attention to detail. My mind is blown. The combat animations, particle effects, environment, it all looks amazing. And the transformations seem very promising!
Other than games based on historical contexts (AoE, Civilization, etc), yeah, there isn't much at all from Wuxia. It's a shame, because I love how beautifully intriguing the myths and culture is. I couldn't be less interested in Ghosts of Tsushima from a cultural standpoint, but this is interesting to me.
had faith 4 years before of this release and here again watching it with a big smile on my face today, thanks game science, you delivered more than what you promised.
Had to come back to this reveal 4 years later. It's so surreal to see this game get an official release date & has already sold way more than anticipated. Pat yourself on the back Game science, you made absolute peak gaming
This is not cinematic its actual gameplay if its intended for the new consoles and you a tv capable of displaying the video capabilities it should be any different. Dont expect it to look like that on 720p
This game is still in VERY VERY early stage, 100% not going to be in 2020, hard to say 2021, might even be 2022. This video is actually more of a "recuritment" advertise. They are currently hiring Senior UE4 graphic engineer expert, animation technology art and UE4 special effects designer etc. The studio also mentioned that this game will be launching on PC + all mainstream console paltforms, and cloud gaming platforms that can provide stable environment for this game. There is also a little tease from the main developers saying that not only they love single player, action based and story driven game, they also enjoy games that support online cooperation.
The studio used to belong to Tencent, and they led the development of Tencent's first self-developed game, which is also the theme of Journey to the West, and achieved a 90% favorable rate during the closed beta. Later, because of the development of online games with a stand-alone idea, the effect of making money was not good. Six of them set up the current studio to develop this game. It can be said that they far surpass other studios in subject matter and ability. This is why many people think they have no problems in making AAA games. On the one hand, the video demonstrated their abilities, on the other hand, it was also aimed at recruiting more people with lofty ideals.
I'm more curious about the game platform release, usually, such an indie studio with great potential is acquired by major game studios like Playstation, but given China's heavy restriction on everything, I wonder it will ever get an international release by platforms such as Microsoft, Playstation or Valve.
@@BocchiTheGlock021 I don't think Microsoft or Sony will have any problems letting them publish on their platforms. That being said I don't them purchasing the studios for reasons you mentioned. They probably won't have any troubles releasing a digital version on all stores, as for physical, either Tencent or just partner with a distributor. One thing for sure, this game will sell a lot in China, publishers will back them, not so certain about the west though.
When a game looks so good that the warning in beginning that says its not representative of what the final build will be and you say to yourself God damn I hope it looks this good
This looks fun as hell, and I'm am incredibly impressed with the sound design. When the fire rushes past wu kong, everything gets louder and you hear the crackling. It was very pleasant to hear :3
So many bosses and areas in this trailer that didn't even make it to the final game. Yet it took me over 75h to complete the first game cycle. They could make another game of the assets they already got.
Did you know that the Monkey King Sun Wukong himself from the novel Journey To The West of Chinese religion mythology and Hanuman the monkey god of Indian from Hindu mythology inspired Dragon Ball Son Goku,Naruto,One Piece Luffy,Jin Mori from God Of Highschool,….. The name Sun Wukong in Chinese translated to Son Goku in Japanese and Naruto shadow clone techniques came from Sun Wukong 72 transformations, also the game trailer of black myth Wukong is very detailed animated.
They showed us ! And they delivered ! Much Respected to you guys !!! Hat off !!! To think they get this done 4-5 years ago is mind blowing 🎉 22 hours into this game and I’m at early chapter 4
It was fun to come back to this and see just how much the game changed over the course of four years. The final product is easily my game of the year and one of the best games ever, period.
I've been searching for this moment ever since I first saw that clip years ago, and I can't thank you enough! The way you've brought the legend of Wukong to life, blending the depth of culture, tradition, and myth into something so visually stunning and emotionally powerful, is nothing short of breathtaking. It's beyond what I ever imagined possible. My deepest respect to your team-this is truly legendary work that deserves every bit of recognition and glory. Thank you, Game Science! I can't wait with great anticipation for the next chapter!
An absolute amazing game start to finish, 10 out of 10 for me! I remember listening to the story of JttW as a kid. I was awed by the myths, the story, the fantastic abilities and creatures. And this makes me feel like that little kid again.
Who's here in 2024 to show some love to Game Science for their incredible work on Black Myth: Wukong? From the first trailer to the final product, they've truly outdone themselves.
For anyone dont know The Journey to the West. The West here refers to ancient India. The home of Shakyamuni. Wukong protects a monk to go to ancient India to obtain the true Sanskrit Buddhist scriptures.
I think the game is set before the journey with tan sanzhang, you can see he from the preview he was fighting demon in the beginning, towards the end it was some gods, also the very ends he was fighting bunch of armies possibly when he wreak havoc in heaven, thinking that the final boss could be Erlang God
stfu. Central Asia is where the journey to the west is about, sure India is an part of it but it's not referring to that here. just enjoy the game for its chinese roots and stop tryna up one country over another aight.
They pulled it off! Happy for all the success you guys are enjoying. Also kind of interesting to see this old alpha build running on UE4 instead of 5 like the final game. Biggest difference to me is all the little detail in the final game (more vegetation and other "decoration") which I'm assuming was a benefit of UE5's Nanite virtualized geometry. Also kinda crazy how the layout for this first section doesn't seem like it changed much. Obviously at this point this was probably the only area they had working really. But the layout etc is basically exactly the same as the release build.

Can't wait.

Who's here after 4 years and surprised to see how close the real game came to this?
Me
😂😂💓
exceed my expect, I didn't think it is so perfect
It's not even so much a matter of "how close". Aside from a few visual cue's for stuff like charging up a heavy attack, and particle effect differences.... graphics fidelity is pretty much EXACTLY as shown. Crazy when you look at games that have come out SINCE this video went live.
Wish they kept where you can throw the staff. Pretty cool
Very cool
For real! Didn't feel this sense of awe for a game in a long time.
Same. My mouth dropped open like I was about to put something in it
👏👏
true :)
The game got its basis from actual myths and gave it a inspiration to create this gorgeous looking game. Here are some some fun facts about this video if you are not familiar with eastern culture:
Journey to the West (which this game is based on) is also is a classic novel in Chinese mythology.
* 2:23 - One of Wukong's abilities is the paralysis (body freezing) spell
* 3:28 - This isn't related to the myth, but it's fun to note that most of the Monkey Staff attacks are based on actual Shaolin Kung Fu.
* 3:51 - One of Wukong's abilities is the barrier (protective circle) spell
* 4:04 - In the legend Wukong pulls his staff from his fur/ear... so him "sheathing" the lance in his fur/ear seems like a reference to that
* 4:20 - That monster looks like Ayakashi (鬼怪) or also known as Yokai which is a class of supernatural monsters, spirits and demons from Japanese folklore. They are eclectically from the malevolent to the mischievous, or occasionally bring good fortune to those who encounter them.
* 4:45 - Shows an Earth God (there are many)
* 6:37 - In the legend Wukong is capable of tranforming into a giant and scary version of himself.
Usually it's used to trick his enemies but in this case it seems devs change it to also get the powers of the one he defeated at around 2:51
* 10:37 - The guy that stops you (the player) is actually Sun Wukong (with the classic metal armor and headpiece with the 2 giant feathers).
* 11:30 - This is Lei Shen, the God of Thunder
* 11:34 - That might being is Bird God Garuda and is probably one of the most powerful characters in the fiction. He is the son of Phoenix, and he has a sister, a peacock, who is the Mahamayuri, Buddha's mother. He appeared in 狮驼岭(shi tuo ling), as the 3rd king. (1st king is a lion, 2nd is a white elephant.)
* 11:38 - This is Juling Shen, a gigant River God
* 11:44 - These are the Four Heavenly Kings, the Buddhist protective deities
* 11:49 - The classic "flying cloud" and we see the dragon flies through the sky which might be Bai Longma, a dragon prince son of the "Dragon King of the West Sea"
* 11:52 - In the legend, Wukong actually invades the heavens, basically beating every god single-handedly and it seems like we'll get to play this part too which is really awesome!
EDIT 3: Another fun fact to be mentioned by "Wshch 01":
The Black Wind Mountain(黑风山 hei feng shan) where this trailer took place was in the original novel.
This is my childhood shit right here. I remember everything what you wrote. Im so happy lmao
the circlet was given to tang seng by guan yin to help control him because he was quite disobedient.
great job. respect!

It’s honestly amazing that Black Myth Wukong went from a pre-alpha proof of concept to a full game in just 4 years. Dev cycles for a lot of games now take about twice that long.
5 years
This was more than a poc

Yeah I was thinking the same - I was kinda sad to see Chapter 6 so BIG and BEAUTIFUL but you could clearly tell that it was rushed juding by how much was just left empty there, so that they could bring out an actual finished product that was working on day 1 (which is crazy to see from such a studio these days, compared to triple A companies) but you could tell that there is so much left that they will use for the dlc.

(discarded piece of in-game story)
11:20 A snake guai as a boss.
It is about time the Chinese get their ancient myths and folklore into the gaming world...
Glenn Boo hopefully this helps allow for the wuxia genre to be more widely known open the western world, maybe there will be better translation then.
hell yeah
Other than games based on historical contexts (AoE, Civilization, etc), yeah, there isn't much at all from Wuxia. It's a shame, because I love how beautifully intriguing the myths and culture is. I couldn't be less interested in Ghosts of Tsushima from a cultural standpoint, but this is interesting to me.
It would also be cool to see Finnish folklore in a game! Well I kind of revisioned it in my Minecraft Kalevala Spa Cinematic !
Gujian 3 is very good.
had faith 4 years before of this release and here again watching it with a big smile on my face today, thanks game science, you delivered more than what you promised.
Black Myth Wukong is the true 2024 Game of The Year. Thank you for bringing the players an amazing and memorable experience!
This demo just made my day
Had to come back to this reveal 4 years later. It's so surreal to see this game get an official release date & has already sold way more than anticipated. Pat yourself on the back Game science, you made absolute peak gaming
Looks really good. Hope the studio can maintain the same quality of the trailer in the final game.
@Canisay937 It will be most likely released on next-gen so don't worry.
This is not cinematic its actual gameplay if its intended for the new consoles and you a tv capable of displaying the video capabilities it should be any different. Dont expect it to look like that on 720p
Well.. you know it'll be a made in China Product...and hopefully by dedicated no corner cutting indie devs with strong passion.
The game is for chinese players, they are PC players, even this gameplay is shown on PC.
They did indeed deliver on quality. it's game of the year front-runner.
it made it's journey to the west, a masterpiece. Thank you game science, please make more high quality games like this.

That music at the end! As an asian fellow, it brings back so many good memories. Day one purchase!
This game developer promised so much... and delivered. Such a rare thing these days.
Big respect.
This is the most impressive next-gen game I've seen so far. Please don't screw it up.
Think this is unreal 4 so its not even "next-gen", Which is crazy.
@@BocchiTheGlock021 I'll gladly buy it day one if it comes to pc on Steam.
goes to show you that when tampering with creative expression to improve profits hurts the end product, in turn hurting profits
They used to belong to Tencent? I thought once you're owned by them you can't break away from them.
When a game looks so good that the warning in beginning that says its not representative of what the final build will be and you say to yourself God damn I hope it looks this good
Can’t believe this is real. Congratulation to Game Science.
The ending scene give me my childhood's goosebump feeling again! So excited !!
Not a single dull moment from start to end. Cloth physics looks amazing and no clipping wow!
Absolutely stunning! I patiently await it’s arrival. ❤️
Thank you Game Science for delivering this Masterpiece of a Game in Our Generation.
Simply amazing. It brings me to tears how a promise was made and a promise was delivered. A love letter to a core pillar of our culture and childhood.
Not many games live up to the expectations like how this game did, it's such a gorgeous game and I'm proud to have played and finished it.
the music of 12:41 is a song of the first edition of Journey to the West TV series published in 1986. THE ABSOLUTE PUNCHLINE!
Thank you for quoting that, this tv series is def one of my unforgettable memories. I wished being a monkey son of Wukong when I was a kid lol
OMG! The last song, remind me Journey to the West (1986). My childhood :'(
Bruh, this remind me to tong sam chong/tang sanzang the monk 😂

Watching this trailer though makes me wonder what else game science was cooking up, I believe they wanted to give us more, but for whatever reasons had to cut it shorter than originally planned, I just hope I get to see more of black myth wukong soon! 👌🏻
Gorgeous! First AAA game from China, congratulations to the team :)
You should check out Lost Soul Aside & Bright Memory. They are plenty of gorgeous games from China. Not sure what u meant by first AAA though.
You need to know about Gujian 3. Another AAA game from China.
I guess you didn't know the existence of Genshin Impact huh?
Moonlight Blade

@@SangNguyen-vt8jg Definitely not what I would call a AAA game... It's closer to a Fornite than Last of Us 2. Although it does get close it's still a AA game.

4:07 Keeping stuff in his ear/hair! That is pretty detailed and accurate
This looks sick. I also love the fact that he kills that first "boss" gets his weapon after he dies and can transform into him later.
I remember listening to the story of JttW as a kid. I was awed by the myths, the story, the fantastic abilities and creatures.
And this makes me feel like that little kid again.
Who's here in 2024 to show some love to Game Science for their incredible work on Black Myth: Wukong? From the first trailer to the final product, they've truly outdone themselves.
that last soundtrack is so nostalgic.!!

What you guys delivered is out of this world.
Impeccable work of art. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The video had a million hits in just two hours on BiliBili, but only 2000 on UA-cam. Please forward more
