    Popular questions:
    1. Can you extend the bed partially to fit a double mattress? Yes, you don't need to extend the base all the way, it's very fluid.
    2. Can you use a regular twin mattress instead of the stackable mattress? Yes definitely just make sure the length fits and you are using twin not twin XL.

    I have that bed in my office. 5 full-sized bed pillows along the back and sides, and then 6 throw pillows in front of them. My guests have a choice of how firm a pillow they want to use, which they all seem to love. I bought one of the more expensive mattresses, and everyone comments that it's an amazingly comfortable mattress, though I haven't ever slept in it as a bed (fell asleep on it as a couch a couple of times, and hadn't meant to). I use the drawers for my linen storage. Overall, I love it and think it's one of the best IKEA purchases I've ever made. Pricey, but WORTH it!

      Looking for this or something similar in my office too. Currently it doubles as a guest bedroom along side my office (work, play, and music recording) and it’s a pretty small room where we have a queen bed in there. Definitely gets kinda tight. Also when on zoom meetings it feels somewhat unprofessional just having a bed in the background. Having it set up as a sofa and having the extra room seems amazing. But now arguing with the gf on what style/color we get 😂

      @@bstr-ey6wl as my previous comment states I was looking into this daybed, and I ended up getting it along with the firm meistervik mattresses.
      I don’t mind them one bit, I haven’t slept on them yet but a love it for laying down for a few minutes and sometimes even a bit longer. I’ve had guests complain about it but these are very firm mattresses, these definitely aren’t for those with a preference of softer mattresses.
      I can probably add a think memory foam topper to get a happy medium between firm and soft, but otherwise I do like it and serves a good purpose as a larger bed when company is staying over and while looking better, taking up less room, and being functional for normal uses otherwise.

    My HEMNES bed was 10yrs old when I sold it and Guess what? I bought back the same HEMNES design haha. Really loved the Daybed so I wanted to make sure I have a new one that can last me many years again. But there’s a huge difference in size with the new one now. It’s now 10cm shorter at the width and longer at the length. I think it’s to help accommodate the taller people situation like what Tina pointed out. I got 2 spring mattresses so I don’t have any back problems sleeping in it for that many years (got new spring mattresses later on when I realised the old mattresses don’t fit the new bedframe anymore) but the only drawback was that the stacked mattresses got pretty high... I have to kinda climb onto the bed lol. Of course when family or friends came for a sleepover the stacked mattresses became a normal height pulled out.

    • @ashleym4233
      @ashleym4233 5 років тому +1

      Rose Waters how do you usually sleep with it? I keep mine pulled out cause I have a baby and she doesn’t sleep overnight in her crib. So I have had it pulled out for a year. I have the newer foam it’s 150 but one mattress got so flat I’m feeling the wood and it’s pissing me off. I was thinking to change the bed to the other hemnes one with drawer it’s a regular queen but I do love this day Bed.

    • @rosewaters2533
      @rosewaters2533 5 років тому +3

      A D hi, I mostly slept with mine closed unless if there’re friends or family over. Perhaps mostly having the mattresses stacked up help prolong the mattress life? But it may also be because I went for the more expensive range with springs in it so it’ll never go flat to the wood. The one that IKEA recommends for the Daybed is simply a foam mattress so definitely not for prolonged use.
      (Edit) Change the mattress and keep the Daybed! 😁

    • @ashleym4233
      @ashleym4233 5 років тому +1

      Rose Waters hey. I have a foam it was 150. Cheaper than the spring in Canada. I’ll end up getting the two springs. It’s 1cm higher than the foam I have. How is it stacked ? Is it super high? But comfortable ? Or it’s hard? I will probably keep mine open just cause baby sleeps with me. And this is a king size bed? Cause queen doesn’t fit. Queen sheets that is.

      Jorreca Hi Jorreca, in my opinion spring mattresses are always better as they last longer giving firmer support. However this also depends on which version Hemnes daybed you’ve gotten. IKEA’s current version doesn’t fit a regular single anymore so the only choice available in 80x200cm now would be foam. Hope this helps!

    My wife and I bought this as our main bed. We have it stretched out and it provides plenty of room. We started out with just two mattresses, and that was OK, but after about 9 months or so we bought two more mattresses. It is very comfortable, was not very expensive, stretched over time, and we love it. The one drawback is having no fitted sheet for the mattresses. Overall the comfort of the bed overcomes that minor flaw.

    I’ve also had the hemnes for a while too, about a year. Honestly a great bed. As you said, it’s very versatile and I’ve gotta admit having a king sized bed to myself is pretty awesome. The drawers go back far and are HUGE, you can store blankets pillows and clothes or really whatever. Not many problems for me, but I also used the cheapest IKEA mattress that would fit with this lol and I’ve had no problems. I can pretty much sleep on anything anyways. I’d say that this is perfect for me. However the assembly and disassembly was probably the only somewhat bad thing about this. I’d say to not attempt doing it unless you’ve assembled a lot of IKEA stuff. My dad is a mechanic with a whole lot of tools and had already built two beds, a desk, and several chairs and even this was quite difficult for him. Assembly took about two days for him, but probably would’ve been shorter with someone helping lol I’ll help him next time since we’re moving soon. A big factor as to why this piece is so hard to assemble is the size of it. Regardless if you will use the pull out feature or not you still have to build it I believe. The frame pieces are huge too. It doesn’t take that long to disassemble though. BUT! Depending if you’re using this extended or not sometimes it can be very difficult to pull out the trundle thing on carpet and since it is also very heavy I’d suggest you put some kind of flat surface on the bottom but definitely not carpet where you’re rolling it out. This bed is great for bedrooms, guest rooms, and living rooms:

    When I first bought this daybed, about 8 years ago, I thought that the mattresses were very comfortable.
    I'm only 5 feet tall, so I only bother pulling it out when a friend stays over, which means I normally use both mattresses on top of each other. When they started sagging, my back really hurt. I found that moving them frequently helped.
    They will go back to their original shape, if you don't keep sleeping/sitting on the same area all the time. (Unless the design has changed since 2015) I think it's sitting that does it, tbh. Also, you can machine wash the mattress covers to freshen them.
    When I moved to a new flat, I did the same as Tina and got the removers to take the daybed apart and put it together again. This is the only piece of furniture I've not been able to put together myself. And it's definitely a two person job, at least!
    As my new studio flat is much bigger, i was able to get my IKEA double bed out of my parents' garage, so the daybed is mostly used as a settee now.
    I use it all the time because I need to have my legs raised and supported.
    I have big cushions that I find better for my back than sitting on a chair, so my experience is different from Tina's here. But I do wish that it didn't have the lip at the top of the backrest, as it would make it easier to get comfortable!
    I would recommend this daybed, as mine has lasted well, but I think that the metal ones could be easier and lighter, which could be a consideration, especially if you think that you might need to move a few times.

I've moved and taken the bed apart 3 times and put it back together which hasn't been too hard, but takes less time after the first time bc you can keep some of the pieces attached to the larger parts. I recommend holding onto the manual even though they have it online. It's handy to have the hard copy when moving.

    I guess the only sensible way of going about this is changing it every 3 years or so.
    You said you've had yours for about 4 years, well now they have a way thinner one split in two, that you can zip together but this is my main concern for sure.
    4 years is awesome though!!! I bought this random mattress off amazon and it got flat in a little bit over a year. Thanks for the video Tina, take care now!

    I've had this bed for the last 4/5 years :) i like it a lot, it's cosy, good to lounge around in and the amount of storage is great. but you're right about the foam mattresses not being great for your back, and when i pull it out for sleepovers i find a single mattress is too thin you can feel the wood planks beneath lol.
    im moving soon and will be buying a new bed and higher quality mattress (i actually got an ad for that mattress while watching this video lol) instead of bringing it with me, thanks for everything hemnes...

    Hey! Great Video
    I’ve never seen a video from you, but I enjoyed watching this one.
    So I’m from Germany, so it might be a little bit different (and I’m sorry for my English 😅).
    I got this bed when I was around 7 years old. My old bed was too little for me so I got this one. I‘m 14 years old now and I’ll turn 15 in 3 months. So my bed is pretty old now.
    For me, it works perfect. I once thought about getting a new bed, but since I’m into a sustainable and minimalistic lifestyle, I never thought about it again. This bed is great and I never found a bed, that’s this practical for me. I love that I can turn it into a big bed, if I want or need to and the storage is really practical. I have the mattresses, which you can get with the bed and for me, they worked good so far, because you can also wash the covering, so it won’t get smelly or disgusting. Sure, when I got the bed, I wasn’t really heavy, I was just a child but I mean, as a child you jump around and dance and do whatever in beds, so I wasn’t super careful 😂. One thing, which I am really sad about is, that the frame (idk if you can call it like this) got wet. It rained and the window was open. The bed is made out of wood, so it’s not in the best condition anymore but it still works good.
    All right, this comment shouldn’t get too long so that’s it from me.
    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

    This was very well done! I’m think about buying this bed for our family of 4, soon to be 5. We live in a condo, 3bd, with no built-in closets, no dryer (we live in Asia so that’s common here) so need one room designated for clothes & dry rack, therefore, space is tight. I love the look and versatility. Thanks Tina!

    I love this bed, it's cute for my tiny bedroom, the drawers are much needed in my space, but the big thing I don't like about it - it's HEAVY and practically stuck in whatever place you initially put it. Mine is on a carpet, and I cannot even move it out a couple inches to clean behind it. There's a thick caking of dust and dirt behind it that I cannot reach. I would also need to have someone take it apart and put it back together when I move, because I don't want to give it up for now.

    I’m around 5’10 (177cm) and I really really want this bed. I got kinda sad when you told be that you found yourself kicking the wood panel sometimes and that made me very disappointed :(. When I looked at this bed at their website it said that the bed was 202cm long. My mother was concerned that the exact same thing that happened to you was gonna happen to be since I’m so tall and it’s not fun to not fit in your bed (so we got happy when it said that the bed was 202cm long). I seriously love this bed tho and I can’t see me buying another.

    Hi Tina, I've been contemplating a daybed for my living room to serve as a couch, bed for guests, and bed for myself when I want to nap in the living room. I really like the Hemnes, especially with the trundle. However, I currently rent, which means I'll eventually move out. In that regard, the Brimnes looks like it would be a lot easier to take apart to eventually move. Do you think the Hemnes would be a challenge to deal with during a move?
    Thanks!

    I have this bed but in the raw wood version. I really wanted the white version but it didn't go well with my room. I just wish it had the full frame around instead of just planks. As for the assembly, I think we must've done something wrong because it is really hard to slide back and make it a single bed again, so we keep it as a double for most of the time. It is kinda squeaky after about a year which again might be my fault. And as for the mattresses, we bought different ones than they have on display with this bed, even more firm ones and they are fine so far. Great video!
