I love the tip that you made about the bedroom furniture all matching. It honestly made my feel so much better about not having all the furniture match and thinking more about getting pieces that will be more timeless and probably what I will like more longer, and will be cheaper.

Making my bed every morning makes me really feel good, relaxed and confident. And every time I walk in to that room, or look in as I pass it during the day, I get another spark of joy!
My aunt said or you do nothing else, make your bed, and you will walk in the room feeling less stressed. But also shake everything out to makes less dust mites and also make Friday morning before you go to work bed sheet wash day, if you have a machine. Do it before the weekend so your weekend feels clean and comfy. Waiting until Sunday before work makes a nice work week but Friday makes a nice weekend. Make it about you, not work.
It’s such an underrated practice!
I'm so happy that he mentioned about bedroom sets. I had always wanted one, until recently when I repurposed a cherry wood headboard and an antique dresser. Then years later I found an antique nightstand for one side of my bed and bought a black cube storage for the other side of my bed. Thank you for teaching me my furniture styles didn't need to match.

I make my bed everyday. And yes, we have a bedroom set. We bought it years ago before we knew about design options and the internet to give us endless inspiration and professional advice. There's no accent wall, no boho, no red, no tufting, no cluttered pillows, no floating shelves, you get the picture. My curtains are too short, and I need two new lamps because one got broken. I am drawn to your videos because you are light hearted and charming. Thank you for keeping us informed.
Ha-ha! I know in my heart that you're absolutely right (and my bedroom even reflects your principles), but there's a cheesy side of me that wants my bedroom to look like a red brothel - and even if a dark red would shrink an already small room, the space can, of course, be expanded by the extensive use of mirrors LOL.
The most important thing is that you feel good in your room, no matter how it is, clean and tidy❤️

Hi Arvin, Billie Jean here, LOL. You have such spot on advice but I was so shocked and then had to laugh so hard that I bought a whole bedroom set. I do love it though and I'm keeping it but I would have done differently if I had seen this video first. (It is pretty though.) I am enjoying you not only for your great pointers but for your humor. You are so enjoyable!
Thank you so much for mentioning the one about flat bedsheets. I hate my bed looking flat and not fluffy it just looks too uninviting and the first thing I do when I go to a bnb is fluff up the bed a little when it looks flat 😅
I’m watching this on my bed with a headboard to the ceiling that matches all the rest of my furniture, set against my red tufted paisley accent wall. Thinkin about adding some more print pattern and pillows.

I only committed one of the no-no’s. The pillows on the bed! So, I did the next bed with one long pillow in front of the sleeping pillows and it looked so much better. Plus, making the bed was so much easier! I love the way they mix humor with these tips! ❤

"An accent wall makes the room look disjointed." What a perfect word to describe it.
My bedroom furniture was the last picture you showed of the bedroom sets. lol. 🤣🤣🤣 I have an adjustable frame that raises and lowers the head and foot sections. So I put a solid piece of memory foam over the tufted section. Changing it to an eyebrow archband covered it with oatmeal colored linen. Framed in the area around it adding trim to ceiling. Then added a plate glass mirror on each side out to the side walls. I hung 2 pendent lights on each side and am using a round table on one side & a square one on the other bedside. Wall mounted fireplace in the wall at the foot of the bed and took out the 2 windows and installed french doors out to the new all season room!! I wish I could send pictures, I love it. I have a bench at the foot of the bed. I turned my 3rd bedroom into my closet. I emptied the former 2.5 x 6ft closet & painted it a co-ordinating color put the dresser in there. The night stands are end tables in the family room. The tall chest is in the new closet . ❤

I'm super late to this party but have to say -- loved the video and your energy. Have to say I don't feel the same about the wall-mounted nightstands! I have ones I really love that have a door on the front with space for a book and stuff. Looks good, so much easier to vacuum/mop (wood floors) and makes the room look big. Just my take! Other advice was great!
Hello Arvin..yes...I make my bed every morning. I think it as a little gift to my future self. When I go to bed- tired to the bone...everything is aligned and calming. It gives me a sense of sanctuary. I make my bed every morning also because it gives me a feeling of a job completed at the start of the day. Great vid. Good advice and love your energy.

Love the tips. The only one we did different was we added floating shelves in metal next to our king size bed. We put fun ottomans underneath them. It keeps our room looking bigger and with nightstands come more clutter. It works well for us.
I am thinking of doing something similar, do you have any photos of the finished look??😊
Seems to me like you're merging seating with task & storage. I love this idea. It creates separate multi-use spaces for both of you. I can see these being used to read, eat, study, put on make-up, etc. Less is definitely more in this case.

I love my bedroom set. It fits my style. I designed my room around a bedspread I loved. My wall color is a beautiful dark gold color. I have purple Curtains that are also from the bedspread. I even picked a color from the bedspread for my master bathroom walls. I loved a lot of your stop doing this recommended. And yes I make my bed every day.

My mom literally just bought the bedroom set you showed 😂 my mom is the queen of matching you will not break her and she hates shopping. Growing up with sets makes me hate to buy matching anything. I love the look of anything eclectic but with a theme if that makes sense.

I love bedroom sets. It’s just my personal preference and I don’t need an expert to tell me otherwise. Especially since I’m not someone who does a good job at putting together random pieces (I’ve tried for many many years and I just don’t have an eye for it like some people do). Also I refuse to pay anyone to do it for me. So bedroom sets are my go to and they just uncomplicate my life. I add paintings and unique accent pieces as a way to create some individuality in my space and I think that approach works best for me. Painting can also be nice when done well on just one wall.
I make my bed every day. I first had a tiny bedroom and an unmade bed was so depressing that I got into the habit of making it. And I DO have 9 pillows on it- it’s no trouble at all and I love the look.

This is just depending on the theme of your room
And it does take quite a long time
But maybe like
Cease it into the wall
Build a structure (like a second wall) , you ofc can hire someone, and leave a gap between the wall and the structure (it’s hard to explain but like three walls to make like a box around where you want the tv to go)
Then it’ll look like it’s integrated into the wall and you can just put a table inside there to hold it up or mount it on the wall, then the cables will be hidden
I’m not sure if my explanation makes sense
Edit: like a bookcase, or you could get one of those big bookcase tv stand things
Or as the person above said yeah you could get a projector, but projectors mainly look good at night/in the dark

I have found out the hard way after trying to decorate for myself for 63 years and I am now just finding out about these things that you are talking about! I make my bed every morning & when my kids were little, I taught them to do the same--I told them it was ok even if they just spread it up. Now as adults, their bed are made nicely every morning. It’s the largest thing in the room, and if it’s messy, the whole room looks destroyed.

LOL! I love everything you said. I recently went to my friend’s house and stayed for a month while she was away caring for her mom. Let me tell you….her design is a type of farmhouse but not like everyone who is doing it out there. Anyway, I had to laugh about all the pillows on her bed. It literally filled HALF of it! I don’t mind making my bed everyday but making hers was a chore! She didn’t like that I moved into her daughter’s old room with a single trundle bed. (She made me sleep with her dogs) 🙄. She killed it for me-no more animals, no over the top pillows, and definitely no farmhouse anything lol.
I actually considered a super tall, cushioned fabric covered head board, just for sound absorption. I live next to a really loud street. I didn’t though. I got better earplugs. I still feel the walls rattle when large trucks drive by though. And bullet bikes and super loud muscle cars should be illegal (that’s another story). Thanks for the video. I appreciate you sharing your talent, and I like your sense of humor.
If you have a sitting area, it always becomes "that chair" that everyone throws laundry on 😂
According to my family, the chair also attracts ghosts.

I only make my bed for one of two special occasions. Either i want a pick me up or i want to feel motivated to clean other areas of my house and seeing the physical play-out of my effort creating a visually pleasing space is the best motivator for me

Yeah, like every piece of furniture was picked up from the curb or at Goodwill or Salvation Army. And who is this person to be giving advice on decorating? Maybe the same person who came up with the bowl sinks, half door showers or open kitchen shelves. Every one should decorate the way they want and fu*k the trends! However, I do agree that too much of anything is too much, but only if you're selling your home. Otherwise no one cares if you decorate with tin foil and bling/glam excess.
I love a lot of colors and textures and i am not changing it.
I make my bed every day. When I get home from a cruddy day, that room is a clean, calm space to take the anxiety out of the day and changes your mood to serenity.

I am so happy that I don't do any of that! As for making the bed, mostly, I have a fluffy (dk gry) duvet that will shake the heck out of and top with a soft fuzzy blanket (lgt silver gry). We moved and I never painted my room - curious what color/time you'd suggest?

Hello Arvin, I just discovered your channel and even though this video is about 2 years old, I fully agree with every tip. And the tufting? *serious eye rolling* oh I hate tufting. I will admit that one of my favorite headboards I ever had was in my teens and used a standard bookcase with my twin bed.
I'm working on my bedroom today. Getting out of a bad relationship and I need this room to not remind me of that ever. Problem is, my bedroom is also my WFH office. It's been challenging and I am not done but this has given me some great ideas. I do have floating nightstands. But they connect to this wall thingy. Anyway, I've moved them down and they make great work shelves. TTFN, gotta go put some of these pillows on the sofa ;)

hey! i understand where you’re coming from but there’s also a so many different tones of red, my room is red! and i have no trouble sleeping at all, nor does it make me “angry” like some people assume, although some people don’t like it, i actually my room’s shade of red calming and royal, if that makes sense

Red rooms are actually surprisingly relaxing, much more so than blue rooms I find. Laurel Bern the designer also figured this out about red rooms.
The home I bought (from a bachelor lol) came with a red bedroom…I made it work with some classy, oriental, and blue accents. Doesn’t feel sexual to me but it took some thought to make it work!

I’m so happy to hear an expert tell me to not buy a bedroom set!!! My mother keeps telling me it’s a must, but I have zero interest!!!! My bedroom vibe is a mix of thrifted vintage.
My parents had matching furniture throughout the house...the benefit being it was all interchangeable, but really wasn't a style. It's taken me years to get over all of my mother's decorating hangups.

My mother taught me to start my day by making my bed. I can't function with the thought of my bed not being made.
It's actually not hygienic to make the bed as soon as you get up. The covers should be left down and the sheets exposed for at least an hour for everything to air out. Mites thrive in warm moist environments so when you get out of bed and immediately pull the covers up, it seals in the warmth and moisture you left behind by sleeping and sweating (we all sweat a little in our sleep) and makes a great environment for the mites. If you leave the covers down, the exposed sheets dry and cool and the mites die pretty auickly. I always leave my covers down with my ceiling fan on for at least an hour after I get up.
