I would love to see a collab with I like to make stuff! I think you both have the similiar approach to projects, it would be amazing what would you come up to together 😁😁
I want that chair!
If only Simone would help me with my Coathinger dreams! Because I think she'd get my idea from my head to my tiny house on wheels! 😆 Still a great chair/video, inspiring me yet even further! 😬
Safety Nitpicking: Please move the chair a little away from the power outlet, that's like a fire hazard with the materials in clothing, any static/arc that happens with that plug catching that dry clothing hanging off the rail, and then with the clothes on the wall being a propagation point.
Otherwise really nice on the chair! It comes off looking like something from the 1960s (?) too. I'm kind of sad you couldn't keep the circle shaped back rest 😥.
@@KennyisLB You mean from lightning strikes? Or is that a thing that happens with devices plugged in? If so, I guess that's one of the reasons why Schuko is recessed. The prongs are "hidden" in the recess during (un)plugging.
Simone continues to be the most relatable human being by admitting to having The Chair.
shoutout to that picture of Bernie Sanders (I believe at a relatives home for the holidays) with The Chair in the background
People: Being embarrassed over having "The Chair" for their clothes.
Me, a fucking 35+ yo "adult": Has "The Floor"...
@@rickinielsen1Wait a few years and you’ll reach my level…”The Both”
@@rickinielsen1TheChair is just easier to reach TheFloor
I've been askinga bunch of people about this lately cause I feel like I'm not a grown up, but everyone says the same thing: I have a chair. There's no other solution it seems and nothing purpose built for this.
Thank you for publicly affirming that there IS such a thing as ‘half-dirty’ clothes, and that I am not weird for reusing clothes more than one wear 😊
it's a sustainable choice! easier on the clothes and less energy laundering! no it doesn't mean I'm smelly, obviously I don't wear smelly, dirty clothes!
We should all get away from the being forced to wear "new clothes" everyday - either at work or school from society.
I like wearing wool in winter, much warmer while still being light - and not smelly.
Airing worn clothes makes huge sense - while also putting them not with fresh clothes. Maybe a half ladder could also work in small spaces.
But I really like this chair - looks good at the end and you can do both - sitting while hanging clothes. 👍🥰
Pretty much just jeans, honestly. If it's a hoodie or outerwear, just hang it up in the closet, takes like two seconds.
It's normal
I’ve been told that the following is an known expression that rhymes in Dutch (or German?):
Too dirty for the closet,
Too clean for the floor,
Welcome to the chair.
This could be an opportunity for an insane Simone Giertz x Ikea collab. I would totally buy this chair.
this tbh!
Ikea is one of the worst greenwashed companies ever - they cut down giant patches of old growth forests in Poland bc they have bad environmental laws just to make cheap plywood and actively built the fast furniture industry.. I think/hope simone wouldn’t do business with them. Everyone should invest in furniture made from locally sourced wood and made by well paid hands! :)
And for all confused souls: I would never shame someone who is not able to afford/has no other options other than Ikea- but like other people pointed out there is still the opportunity to buy second hand furniture, which (atleast where i live) is considerably cheaper.
My point in writing this comment was to inform people who dont know better and not to spread a political message or criticize anybody/thing other then the business practice of Ikea. The protection of ecosystems is an important topic that is of utmost importance for the health of our planet and everything living on it.
please make it happen, @simonegiertz ! snälla få det att hända!
Me too
@@Wehaywire a lot of people like myself live in countries where we don't have the luxury of locally sourced wood. So I'd honestly say, if that works for you good, but let's not shame people for purchasing affordable furniture if they can't afford something nicer because the shame shouldn't be on the consumer vut the mega corporations for their shitty practices. Want them to change? Vote people in who want change and will push for it. Preaching on a yoytube comments section won't do much of anything.
I'm disabled and I typically leave the house for 2-4 hrs at a time for doctor's appointments. I'm not wearing a shirt for 2 hrs and washing it. It still smells like detergent! But I live with multiple cats, so I have inside clothes and outside clothes.
Also, the intro was the most relatable thing ever, from the existence of "the chair" to building a "messy" prototype, and not spending too much time on the perfectionism. (I went to school for art, and mock-ups still haunt my nightmares.)
Omg same hats across the board. Not a day goes by that I don't think about how much I need this chair, but I can't even find a good way to jerry rig a shitty version 😂
Simone out here building the stuff people REALLY need
Amen to that!
YES!!
its a good idea. i had thought about this problem a few times too, but hadn't come up with this solution.
Its the correct premise. neatness just means making everything intentional.
If we have a "half-dirty" [alt name "second run"] rack, then its not clutter its just part of an organized room.
Soup robot enters chat
No one really “needs” this though 😂
This chair is INCREDIBLE. I would absolutely buy this chair. (Especially if I could put it together myself; legit love building furniture.)
With so many great creators putting ideas out there, and having them productized without their knowledge, it seems there's room for a company to be the glue to turn a prototype into a set of plans and then a production run for brilliant folks like Simone.
⬆️ Free start-up idea for anyone to run with, because I want to be a customer 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds like a job for IKEA! 😁
Yes! Beautifully designed!
U wanna come build the world ikea furniture that has been sitting unbuilt in my house for 3 years 😂
Simone x IKEA collab when???
simone, this could actually be one of the biggest inventions of the century. the wisdom of accepting the existence of "the chair" and coming up with a solution that's both effective and aesthetic. brilliant. you should sell it.
Please do sell it. I will buy three. :)
for real, you should. get a patent b4 an stupid ikea volunteer finds this video.
I use a towel ladder for this, and it's perfect.
Started using one a couple of years ago after many years struggling with 'the chair'. It's been game-changing.
Does a lot of what Simone's doing here: Looks good, is tidy, and can air out the clothes. Plus it's relatively cheap. I would never go back to a chair, or chair-based furniture for my clothes. 😅 However, as a chair option, Simone's design is outstanding. 😀💪💪🔥🔥
u just changed my life. I'm buying a towel ladder
Omg. How is this not more of a thing? I’m getting one TOMORROW!
"Look at how good I did. :)"
It's so nice to see pride where it's warranted; so many engineers and other creative people don't seem comfortable acknowledging that the things they create are cool and special and it warms my heart to see Simone get to bask a bit.
And without CAD either!
That chair ended up looking very stylish, in spite of the clothing on the back. Far better than I expected.
Simone, you've come a long way from your days designing crappy robots.
You know, that's a really GREAT point. Simone has come a really long way from her Rube Goldberg past. I think that'd make for a really good news piece; following up on her previous media exposure. It'd also help to kickstart her product business.
@ARepublicIfYouCanKeepIt
....and now I'm agreeing with you.
I think that we all want Simone to succeed (as well as be healthy and happy). Especially those of us who have been watching her and following her life for years - I suspect that you come into that category, as do I.
We've watched the crazy stuff, then the heartbreaking stuff. We're now into the useful stuff - Simone is in a better place. Long may it continue.
This is exactly what I wanted to say. How did shitty robot girl turn into high end furniture girl?
I think it helps that is in teh corner and against other clothing. the clothing in the back feels like its MEANT to be there haha
@ConanRider a lot of work, a huge amount of imagination and big dollops of frustration along the way.
Remember all those prototypes for various projects? The coat-hinger had many.
Simone, we absolutely do have the time to watch a whole build. Upholstery and iterations. This is why we're here.
Since she said "we don't have time" and not "you don't have time", I assumed she meant that she and her team don't have time.
The idea I adore so much about this is that you initially have to have the balls to admit the problem of half-dirty clothes in the first place. Many people / designers never even reach that point, which makes your projects so ultimately unique ❤
Instead of making the chair into a product, make a product that just adds the rotating assembly to some cheap Ikea chair that people can buy everywhere anyway. That way your customers can get a limited experience of being a builder without all the headache. Also it should be cheaper to ship back to the EU than full chairs.
That’s one hell of an idea
This - I need this chair. I could not afford to ship something that large to Europe (or carry it up to my room)
Omg great call, I hope she sees this
hot damn thats good
Winner winner - chicken dinner❣️
I would buy this in a heartbeat! Not only would I use it for clothes, but also as a “basket” to put my duvet, quilt, and pillows when I’m changing bed sheets!
Hey that's actually a really nifty solution to an age old problem using a nifty solution to an age old problem
Genius
I would also buy this in a heartbeat!!!!
Yep spot on!
Yes! Would it be possible to add like a shelf underneath the seat/attached to the legs for shoes/slippers/cats?
"Its good that I'm not easily embarrassed, because I dont know how I would exist in this world if I was" is such an amazing quote and I love it!
Everytime I watch one of Simone's videos, I walk away feeling so creatively inspired. And these days, that feeling is hard to come by for me. So thank you, Simone, from the bottom of my heart for being a solid inspiration source.
Also, that corner in the last part of the video is absolutely sick and I wish to have that same vibe.
Also also, I would 1000% buy that chair.
I love all your videos, but something went really really right with this one. The chair is incredible, the pets, the light, the humor the behind the scene of getting Scraps into the frame. This whole video is a piece of art.
the goofing around w/parts and "we'll forget that happened" moment too. very relatable. creative minds fire in all directions, you can't turn it off.
[correction: you can turn it off, just can't turn it back on].
Also the "this is uncomfortable" moment about pushing outside the [CAD] comfort zone. funny, relatable and important part of creative process! If it isn't uncomfortable, it isn't learning.
PLEASE MAKE THIS A PRODUCT!!! as someone who is disabled and struggles with her laundry chair THIS would be life changing!!! ❤
There are special free-standing hangers with multiple rails to hang clothes on.I've been wanting to buy one like this for a long time.
I replaced my chair with a quilt rack. It works great. I was never actually sitting in that chair anyways.
@@BestHakase It's called dumb servant or dressboy. Maybe it can be helpful with a disability too
@@TheVioletMaze I literally have another tab open to freestanding towel racks because I'm sick of having a bedroom chair that is unsittable. SICK I SAY!
Right? I think it would help with motivation too.
Not seeing big overwhelming piles would help my depression and ADHD. It looks tidy and gives function back to the chair. It’s such a good concept.
"Except for upholstery, but we don't have time to cover that." Never thought I'd hear a dad joke from Simone. I like it.
Missed that one. Thanks
Never? ...really? :)
@@thatJoshieJosh UA-cam comments are getting dumber every day. She literally makes a Dad joke nearly every video.
I'm sure she's dropped a few dad jokes that I didn't pick up; she tends to downplay her jokes and puns. It's interesting that I had a nice chuckle at the joke, whereas the way other people would deliver such a joke would merit a "Damn, bro, your got the whole squad laughing."
@@petersage5157 Indeed, the subtle humor is top notch. I was just teasing you a little :)
I came to YT to find a mural video I watched a long time ago… I ended up organizing my “watched history” and “liked videos” in to playlists, then the algorithm decided ‘enough of that’ and blessed me with this video in me feed 🙌🏽. I have “the chair”, it’s the first chair I made and way too pretty to cover up with laundry. Your chair is brilliant! I LOVE that you made this on pure vibes 🥹 it’s cute, multifunctional, AND eliminates the eye sore pile of worn but too clean to wash yet laundry 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
feeling highly motivated to create something on vibes now 💝
Saw this on your insta. This is absolutely ingenious-and it's not that I want it, I actually *need* it. If I'll wear my trousers or pullover for 2 hours, I won't just wash it, over-washing clothes means they'll just wear out a lot faster, but I'd be insane to put them back with the clean clothes. Hence, The Chair.
If you want to turn it into a product, I'd think about making a cad file of all the parts, and selling that for those of us who are overseas.
Then in the the US you could sell a "kit version" that is flat packed and the customer has to assemble it.
Or as someone else mentioned, figure out a way to adapt it to a standard ikea chair, then sell the kit so viewers can build their own.
I'd 💯 buy a detailed build plan for this
@@YellaSpiceFamily I would definitely buy a set of plans for this, or eve better a kit. my partner and I are both have piles of not-quite-dirty clothes
Great idea
You made a thing that really is a thing. Very clever and utilitarian. No motors to move it, no gimmicks. Nicely done.
I mean, it has a gimmick. just a very practical one. that really adds value, and is remarkably attractive too, the way Simone did it.
could build an even more basic version without the rotating lazy susan base. that version would fit in smaller spaces too, because it wouldn't have to be round. In fact you could just add a really tall rack to a standard chair w/o expanding the footprint, for tight spaces. it could have arms on hinges so you could adjust them to whatever space, and fold them up out of the way too.
First video I’ve watched from this channel and I’m so glad to have accidentally stumbled upon it.
The host is a true creative genius with a brilliant personality. Somehow pulling off the perfect mix of chill, entertaining and intriguing.
And the chair…to say I love it, is to put it mildly. From concept to creation to completion it’s perfect. I agree that nothing like this amazing design has been done before and I’m very happy that you dreamed it into existence. The colours, finishes and fabric are gorgeous. You have just (very tastefully) solved a massive daily issue in the majority of homes and I can’t thank you enough for sharing your imagination and talents. Very excited to see more videos showing your other projects and creations, as well as learning what the channel is all about. Thanks again,
❤ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦
You failed in your quest to be named the Queen of Sloppy Prototypes because that wasn't sloppy at all. What a brilliant concept. Your project is amazing. The way you persevere through iterative design is inspiring. Great job!
Legit one of your best ideas/executions. This genuinely solves a problem a lot of people have, looks brilliant, and is interesting. Idk how interior design and woodworking comps work but enter this. Also patent this.
I am seriously so proud of you for your corner. My daughter is 4 and we just watched this together. She LOVES making stuff. We have an old frenchie LuLu who can’t get up on to most of our furniture so she started to engineer a catapult like contraption and started grabbing stuff from all over the house and I jumped in to help with the heavy lifting. It definitely doesn’t work but that won’t stop her from trying and trying again. Thank you for being an inspiration to industrious little girls around the world. You absolutely rock.
Yeah, for old Frenchies & and caring, kind building girls ! A ramp with carpet might be an easier design ?!
Uh, I love that you are encouraging and helping her with her ideas and projects, even when they seem the least practical way or do not work in the end! She'll be an amazing outside-the-box thinker in the future because of that! :)
that’s so sweet!! stuff like that is PERFECT for teaching kids how to deal with frustration
@@m.maclellan7147 Oh we're on to jet pack ideas now.
11:15 this really sold me like wow its basically an extended part of the wardrobe
First product you made I would buy. Not a knock on you, I love watching the channel.
I am cheap and try to avoid buying things that would turn into clutter. I only buy things I need.
This would be a step up from my three basket system. Clean, slightly used and dirty.
Same. Cute, cool things I love watching but I'm not that guy.
This? I'm looking at my chair right now and going "you are inadequate, chair".
@mademedothis424 D: poor chair!
Same! My “system” is a combo of edge of the bed and arm of the hamper and the system sucks. I’d love an upgrade
I use a blanket ladder to hang jeans and sweatshirts. It’s a good space saver because I don’t have the floor space for a chair like this. But maybe if I had a chair like this there would be more floor space…?!😅
The French designer Philippe Starck also incorporated the philosophy of designing things more specifically for the repurposes that people found for everyday objects. He too designed a piece of furniture that came after observing the habit of throwing clothes onto the backs of chairs. I much prefer your solution. Great job!
That happens a lot in fashion. People wear clothes differently from the intended way and then designers design clothes for that new way. Like how the Chaperon was turned from a hood into a hat or like making a baseball cap that is meant to be worn "backwards"
Dear Simone, you are an inspiration for all ladies, doing the authentic work that lies in our spirit. From watching your videos, I have managed to get the strength and ignore the shame that was thrown at for being a handy lady. Im a 30 year old living in a small town with lots of pass-byers watching constantly as somethng is being drilled, cut, sawn, painted, remodeled in the front yard. It was hard, now years later it kinda got way better just accepting the inspiration and knowing there is a community behind it. So thank you :)
My wife is the main DIY person in our household. But because she has boobies and I don't, hardware store people always try to talk to me... 🤦
:,( no shame for creativity and competence! Those are two incredible traits to have 💕💕
Her being so natural is actually making this a gr8 watch.
This is really cool. For someone looking for a simpler solution - place a coat rack/pegs above your hamper. The coat rack is for half dirty. When laundry day comes, drop everything on the rack into the bin.
As someone who's about to move house, who's been losing sleep over the fact that my existing "bench of half dirty clothes" won't work in my new space, THANK YOU FOR THIS, IT'S SUCH A GREAT IDEA!!! I clicked on the video for the chair, but was a tad disheartened that it didn't seem like something I could make/obtain. Clothes hooks over the hamper sounds perfect!!!
This is what I do. ;)
Could also use a freestanding blanket/towel rack or a leaning wooden ladder
I also have a coat rack in my bedroom for "half dirty" clothes only. It takes up much less space than a chair and I think it looks more tidy.
My shelves have spots on the sides I use to hang stuff up to air, using the wall is also a great idea for saving space
i just realized that i’ve been following you for over 7 years (when you locked yourself in a bathroom for astronaut training)! it makes me feel empowered that you don’t put pressure on yourself for every project to end up perfect. you try things out, learn from mistakes, then learn from experts. thank you for sharing your journey! you make the coolest things and i don’t think you would’ve gotten far had you been too embarrassed by the slap-alarm or soup feeding robot. thank you for sticking with it and teaching us to stick with it
I have a bamboo chair i bought from ikea over 5 years ago; the back is extra high with 3 rungs. It's intended for use in the bathroom as a place to hang a guest towel set or whatever. I have it positioned between my toilet and the sink/vanity. Thankfully, it fits that space perfectly. The top rung even works as a place to dangle a hand towel --being adjacent to the sink. Because i have no skills in carpentry, this is the best i can do. What i'm getting at is that, i wish i'd bought 2 of these chairs because i could really use one in my bedroom as a place to hang "half dirty" clothes. Thanks for your video.
"Chair that holds your clothes that are too dirty to put away, but clean enough to wear again"
I've never been so called out.
We all are. It's a normal thing. Nearly everyone does it.
Every day has several temperatures. Get up in the morning, wear a woolly cos it's cold, take it off around 10-11, put on a tidy top after lunch to goto the shop, take of the tidy top later to do some housework, end of the day put the woolly on again. It all goes on the chair.
Hehehe how are you dude, good to find you here
That's a fantastic corner. Anyone would be proud of that corner. It's easily one of the top three corners I've ever seen. 👍
I'd say top 4.

I wish i could send you a pic of my old convertible Suzuki Vitara & the way i modified the body and frame to nearly make a mutated Subaru Outback.
I carried 7 fence pannels on top an another time 2- 7 meter steel columns!!! 😆
Simone sitting in the prototype chair looking like a G. Seriously, that thing has mid-century modern vibes, I dig it.
This turned out way better than I thought in the beginning of the video. I was like: sure, you can make it work when you throw your trousers and sweater on it, but nothing more, so it doesn't make sense if you are going to wear these the next day. But then I saw how well it works with the amount of clothing you put on the rail. It's great. If I had space for another chair, I would definitely want to buy it.
Design-wise, I would go with the legs splaying out at a slight angle and the same for the clothes rail supports, but it's nice that the way you made them both vertical, they still correspond with each other in that sense. Well done
I replaced The Chair a few years ago with a set of hooks on the wall above my hamper and it was a game changer (and space saver).
But wow that chair looks fantastic! I didn't expect to love the finished product so much.
I had an over the door hook system for a bit, but it was killing my door. I kinda wanna get a low hanging bar for future fits and currently worn clothes
I have a dedicated tall basket stuff gets hung over the side. What I really want is a comfortable wing back chair with storage under the seat.
we just use the bottom drawers in our dressers to dump the half-clean cloths
I put in some hooks about a decade ago when I thought I was the only person who does this!
Yeap, a few hooks in the closet or behind the door is all you need. That chair will still be covered in cloth!
Wow, so many things to unpack here. I love that you made such a beautiful piece of furniture from an off the wall idea. I'll be checking Yetch regularly for this. I use a Hanson razor and it's great on so many levels. Also, you are hilarious, your sense of comedic timing is second level. Stay as you are.
I have never felt more seen lol
I would 1000% buy that chair for hundreds of dollars. I showed my fiance the video and at first he was like "Mmmmm idk..." and I showed him the final product and he said "Okay it's actually pretty good. I'd get that chair."
We aren't just a "half-used clothes chair" household. We're a "half-used clothes chair + piles in multiple areas in multiple rooms" household 😩
100% if you put this on pre-order sales or something to see if people want it, I will buy this chair
As a heathen who uses the floor, this chair is AMAZING. Even if you sold the build instructions, that would be incredible! 🙏 my clothes that live in multiple piles on the floor would thank you. :)
Ahh, a fellow adherent of The Floordrobe Method
Best not to store clothes on the floor. Spiders or scorpions could set up shop there. There are hooks that fit over the top of a door at hardware and home decor stores . With enough hooks on all your doors, now you can hang clothes easily.
Every time I watch a Simone video, I remind myself that I need to watch more Simone videos. I have zero of these crafting skills and I know I'll never have them, but yet I still watch everything -- INCLUDING THE SPONSOR SEGMENTS -- because Simone (and her team of video editors, I'm sure) somehow makes it all enjoyable. Simone is goals, Simone is life.
Literally have never heard of this person before and have no clue why this video was recommended to me, but I am so happy that I gave it a chance. What an amazing piece of art and function! Definitely worth a sub.
Still in awe seeing this video pop up on my feed after having the same idea and using the same inventor’s methodology that you shared; solve everyday problems everyone has, intelligently. What freed me up to invent was realizing the little problems CAN be solved- we don’t have to live with them. Change is possible. It’s so easy to think what bothers us must be accepted. You’re really inspiring me to do something about my ideas! I’ve missed out on two huge ones already. I honestly think this has to be a sign because I’ve never even heard of you before and then voila here you are on my feed having brought to reality an idea we both had but I’ve done nothing with. GOOD FOR YOU!!! And thanks for the inspo.
This is a great comment, because what you’ve said can also apply to any problem we have in life that we think should change, such as a desire for society to be different. We can find different ways to advocate for such changes. Very recently I saw a quote (can’t recall who said it) but it was basically don’t accept that you can’t change the world, because we built the world so obviously we can change it. The original quote was much more eloquent, but hopefully, you get the picture.
Btw, it may be that you can still make your own similar designs, as it may be that there is a demand for a variety of styles out there.
Simone, you pretty much did my job along with 2 other people... useing concept drawings provided by a 3rd party I do the engineering/ structural side of frame design for custom high-end hospitality furniture. Then hand it off to the sample frame builder and once he's done it goes to the sample Upholsterer. Once were all finished and management and the customer are happy the patterns created throughout the process are used to do our bespoke production runs... it's not really glamorous but it's very interesting at times. It's always neat to see how someone else's thought process works, nice chair by the way... PS if you are ever serious about having a small run of chairs made there are companies like the one I work for around the US who do just that unforunately many people tend under value the cost of custom products
This is the first project in forever that didn't just entertain me but actually got me to want to go to my own shop and do my own take on it. It turned out SO GOOD, and It's my head buzzing with ideas!
Me taking a screenshot of the video and then a photo of my THE CHAIR.
This is beyond relatable, this is beyond me feeling seen, this was so needed.
I'm not the only one😭😭😭❤❤❤❤
No one in my family has THE CHAIR, they just hang the clothes up in the hanger behind the doors, but Those get filled v quickly with long term clothes so they stay filled too and there just arent enough hooks!
THE CHAIR is irreplaceable and INVINCIBLE.
We all need THE CHAIR.
Thankyou for making this😭😭😭❤❤❤
Never expected such a reaction on a chair video, but this is afterall THE CHAIR.
Simone you could totally design custom unique pieces and start your own line of furniture. You are an artist! People would pay so much for such talent. Perhaps it's not about mass producing these but charging what you deserve for these unique amazing creations. While it means that less people would have access to your creations, you are already making tinkering and your ideas accessible by sharing with us online. It might not be an idea that appeals to you, but I wanted to highlight how much I love your designs.
The infamous chairdrobe. Ironically, in air force basic training there was an authorized way to drape your uniform over your barracks chair when you went to bed.
You had a barracks chair? Is that something new? (I went through basic in 2004.)
You mean Chair Force, surely?
@consideredwhisper Lol
@foglebr More like something old, I went through basic in 1988. In the open bay barracks we each had a chair, locker and bed.
It was still open bay in 2011, just no chair anymore. Maybe budget cuts? lol
12:00 - Yes. Yes I would.
Agreed
True, this would be nice but looking at what good furniture costs. This would easily be $400+ for a single chair. Not sure where you cut costs and you'd have to work with a factory to basically start an entire production line for an pretty niche product.
Maybe if you could get a chinese company willing to take it on but then you are looking at reworking it to be able to be flat packed(for shipping reasons)
I need one
Absolutely!!!!!!
I'd put $1400 down for something like this in the color of my choice
This is a genius idea! I absolutely love it ❤

Please please please make this a thing in the world🙏🏼🤞🏽😌 This is my 1st time watching a video of your's...I subscribed before I finished it. And now I've broken my own 'rule' since 2015, to never comment on UA-cam! What have you done to me?!!🤪
Imagine storing your plywood outside because it doesn't rain and the humidity isn't 300% - I notice this detail every time!
Ive solved this problem for myself ...in theory.
I have an underbed drawer specifically for clothes that dont need to be washed yet but i dont want to put back in with the clean clothes, works the same as when you put your clothes on the chair but it is an intentional spot and doesnt look nearly as messy.
So with that solution, why does my bench beside my bed have so much clothing on it?? No idea
For me it's bc the out of sight clothing ceases to exist. :-/ this chair is the perfect solution!
12:02 If you sold this, I would ABSOLUTELY buy it. And I think so would anyone watching. But really, thank you so much for that much needed validation about “half-dirty” clothes, like I really thought I was the only one who does that. New to this channel, but wanted to say you are awesome ❤
What can I say... I've been waiting for an invention like this all my life... Before it was just a pile on the floor... Thank you, Simone!!! You are the best ever!
0:12 yes and yes and why do you know this about me and my love ones and how are you going yo solve this. Omg less than 15 seconds in and you have me hooked
As a budding designer I am constantly jealous of Simone and how ingenius she is at building solutions for everyday problems! Aspire to be like you!!
New subscriber, here! Just randomly came across this video in my feed, and I LOVE your channel! Yes, I do have a half-dirty clothes chair and would consider buying yours if it went on the market! Or better yet, if you could create an adjustable rack that could be attached to an existing chair! I really love my chair and would rather not replace it. I'm a bit of a Tinkerbell myself, though I don't have your amazing workshop, tools, and skills. You have inspired me to come up with a fix of my own, and I think I'm going to go with multi-rung slacks hangers that I can hang against the wall behind my chair and hide with a draped pashmina. The dowels swing out and clip into place. Will take a little extra effort to swing out the dowels and re-clip them, but at least I'll be able to sit in my chair again! Thanks for the inspiration!! ❤
You are reading my mind!!! Just today I thought to myself, "I wish I had a piece of furniture, like a suit butler or something, to put my somewhat-dirty clothes on instead of this chair." And then tonight your video was first in my feed! PLEASE turn this chair into a product! You'll have it on the market before I get to making one for myself (my random projects list is a life-time long).
It’s called a valet chair. They exist.
My wife and I have a 'chair' like that. It's my old office gaming chair. It does the job well enough but it's an office gaming chair. I don't sit in it anymore. It is full of clothes on its backrest and is tucked under an old desk.
Our bedroom has the room for your working prototype you just made in this video. I'd buy this now if you had it on your site.
Thanks for the content, as always.
Actually, quite a practical and unique furniture piece! I use a side chair AND a TV tray to hold my half clean clothes. Of course, like everyone else, it's very satisfying to re-use any of those clothes at least a second or third time before the dirty clothes basket. How those extra uses are....used is determined by the sniff test results.
There was a piece of accessory-furniture called a *Valet,* named after the position that a wealthy man would employ for helping him dress, for handling clothing in just this scenario. It was definitely a function-determines-form design though, not meant to look like a chair but capable of being used as a seat when putting on one's socks and shoes. It's meant to hold the trousers draped over a horizontal dowel, with a hangar-like top for the jacket to hang on. Often there's enough depth that clothing doesn't fold-over and sit against other clothing, so that it can all air-out while it sits.
I've been using hooks installed on the backside of the closet door with hangars, but we have a walk-in closet so the door can handle the weight. I've thought about buying or building a valet but the way the bedroom is laid-out I'd have to change the rest of the room for it to fit, and I'm not prepared to do that just yet.
My wife and I each have a valet. Both are small profile lightweight pieces found at thrift stores. One of their advantages is that when there are enough clothes piled on, they fall into the center of the room, signaling the start of laundry day.😂
Love a valet chair! (The chair in this video is also wonderful.) The official line is that you put clean clothes on it but let’s be realistic: it has a built in clothes hanger. My grandfather never took his clean clothes off of a hanger and rehung it onto that other hanger for five minutes. Nor did my grandmother put anything there (she would lay out his clothes for him because like all mid century men, he could not choose his own clothing). Clean clothes went on the end of the bed. The valet was used for hanging up worn clothes so they could air out and be worn again.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen and now I’ll definitely be subscribing 😊. It was so great to see your creative process, including when things didn’t go to plan or were changed in the final design. It’s so refreshing to see someone just throwing shit at the wall and figuring it out, rather than expecting people to have a full proof design with a cad drawing right from the get go. Thanks so much for sharing!
10:25 I couldn't help but chuckle at the placement markers for the chair, and the fact that they had to stay there while you have been doing renovation work on the shop! Love the chair. I too have a clothing pile that could very much make use of a chair like this, but odds are it would use the hanging rail, the seat and the back rest.
oh that's so funny i didn't even notice that!
Yeah there's 0% chance the clothes would end up on the swivel rack every time for me, they'd end up all over the chair.
"Congratulations on your perfect life." I loved the delivery of that line . . . and the sentiment behind it.
That chair is a wonderful concept for so many of us ADHD folks. May not be what I go with, but it gets me thinking about where my half-dirty clothes should live.
But I'd like to take a moment to talk about that clothes rod. I've never seen one with grooves so that hangers are spaces perfectly evenly apart. It really makes the whole scene. If anyone knows where to buy them, let me know. Otherwise, the best idea I can come up with is to turn them in 4 foot sections on a lathe. That will be my next project.
Great job! I especially like that it rotates all the way around, instead of bumping into a stop. Just much nicer to me, for whatever reason. Please keep “underthinking” these projects!
Now if you could just make a clip-on attachment to convert the rail that swings round into a small desk/workspace area (think school desk but lazy-susan style), you could also use it as a small workspace for your laptop or something. It's so versatile! Especially for people who live in tiny spaces and don't have room for hanging laundry (or a workspace with the attachment I suggested! 😉)
Good idea!
SO many people would buy this and I'm sure there's some sort of luxury brand that has done something similar to this and selling it for 5k+
For a while there was the hack of using a standing towel hanger for the in-between clothes but I appreciate that this retains the chair element! It's just nice to have a little chair! I recently moved into a smaller room and don't currently have a good solution for my in-between clothes bcs the standing towel holder doesn't fit in my space anymore. So I'm trying to come up with something that would work for the space I have. The easiest option would be an over-the-door hanger but I already have two on both sides of my door for my coats 😅 some may say that I should maybe just get rid of some of my coats, but they would be wrong lol. Maybe I'll get a coat closet to put in the living room and then have a door free for my in-between clothes....
I love that corner of "Things I made!" It's a great chair and you should be proud of it! I wouldn't buy it as a product though I'm afraid. Chairs are too space dependant and you'd need to make so many variants to match the vibe of the space I was putting them in that it wouldn't be worth the effort of making it. You should patent the concept though, as a more general idea. For bragging rights mostly.
I was such a doubter til the final shot, I kept thinking, couldn’t you just throw them over the back? But seeing how high the backrest is and how hidden the clothes are, I’m sold. Great work as always!
And also you don't wrinkle any bits because you don't sit on the clothes at all. I also hate if they are on the back and I stand up and knock the clothes to the floor... and find them hours later as a floor pile.
What a beautiful yet so functional chair! If my bed room was big enough I'd buy one!
Also, I've had a Henson razor for about 3 years. Absolutely love it. I used to spend an absurd amount on shaving products. Then I saw an ad on Instagram for their product, showed my dad. We were both impressed. Immediately bought 2 and 2 packs of blades. The blades were 100 for $12 CAD. I haven't even gone through my first box of blades yet. Yes the cost of the razor is more than most want to spend, but it's forever.
Love behind-the-scenes stuff: seeing the director overseeing the shot from the upper left, can tell he's super detail-oriented 11:45
I absolutely LOVE this creation from the thought behind it to the execution. Videos like this make all the slop of UA-cam worth it, if only for a moment. Respect.
FINALLY! Someone taking it to Big Chair and subtly lowering the expectations of friends and family (but, like politely) at the same time.
My friends and I have a huge inside joke about Big Chair. Glad to know we’re not the only one who’s see what’s going on.
@@alexsawyer2060 My current operating theory is that Big Chair’s current obsession with Mid-Century Modern is purely profit motivated. By continuing to make the backrests and feet lower and lower Big Chair can sell us less chair for the same amount of money.
I yearn for quality Wingback yet Big Chair is only interested in giving me small chair for big chair money and I’m glad to march arm in arm with you in demanding Big Chair free us from the shackles of small chair with Big Chair big chair.
Also ever since my thirties my back isn’t so good and I make the noise…
Use a hooks mounted to the wall or closet! Or use a coat stand.
That works for me, it helped me break out of the habit of throwing my clothes everywhere. i've got about 10 articles of clothes hanging right now, and it doesn't look too bad from a clutter perspective
Nice work simone! I call that kind of building "free jazz". Even when I "free jazz" a project and something doesn't land right, iteration brings so much new light to the whole project. It's great for combating technical debt too. I hope there are more videos like this coming soon!
The reality of life as a carpenter! I just have a shelf in my bathroom closet dedicated to work clothes, not ready to wash. I have a recliner in our living room with vinyl upholstery, that won’t absorb dust when I sit in it. I don’t know how some people have shops with no air compressor, I call it my air shower, and I would be miserable without it! I tell my wife I’m just a dirtbag, but she does appreciate all the nice things I build. What a great idea to solve this problem!
Thanks! I was trying to think of how to adapt this for yardwork clothes or animal clothes (slight allergy, so I change before/after if I'm interacting with other people's pets). They need to be quarantined a bit from other half-dirty clothes. But the shelf idea is great, because there's probably only one or two sets of special purpose clothing that are half-used at any time...
11:25 Simone, that is a dope as hell corner 🎉🎉🎉
We all know about "the chair", now everyone needs to know about THIS CHAIR! Genious, simple, elegant, functional. Bravo.
I just use the floor like a savage
Ruthless..
I too have a walk-in floordrobe
Smart savage. Makes a time-limited problem of the hanging. After two days on the floor, I generally assume the clothes are now dirty enough to wash.
Why savage? It proves that you keep a clean floor, otherwise you wouldn't through half-clean clothes on it.
@RyanAKiefer haha, I just put my clothes away in case my brother visits so I can look like a functional adult - it never occurred to me to just tell him I have a walk-in anything.
I won't lie, this is such a fun watch. I'm in my studio barn, supposed to be doing my own work and yet I'm drawn to watching this to completion! That initial 3 circles shot was modern furniture bliss! The un-functionality of a vertical backrest was peak modern. Changing to an angled backrest was the best choice though for actual comfort.
Ok, take a page from The New Yankee Workshop & Blacktail Studio and create plans to sell for building a Clothes Chair by Simone Giertz. Possibly also consider selling a parts kit that has the hardware required.
Scraps' cuteness stats, over level 20. Chair design, 10 out of 10.
This is incredible! Beautifully crafted and an amazing idea! Definitely need a chair like this! ❤
Eyyyy she’s back at it again
indeed she iss
I have something in my bedroom you could copy. I hang my slightly dirty clothes on it, my clean outfit for tomorrow, a couple of jackets for the current season, my robe, when I take clothes out of the dryer and plan to hang them in the closet, and I need a temporary place to hang them until I can get them on the hangers, they go on there. There is a place at the top for a couple hats and gloves. It was my grandparents antique hall tree. It's very versatile and I couldn't live without it. You can make them with as many hooks as you want and put some at the halfway mark to hang shorter things like an umbrella. 😊
Ah, what a really cool cat! Usually cats don't like noise but your cat would just sit there standing, and looking at you doing your work .
Really cool 😊
Lol !! Brilliant idea, Love it !!! I put my halfway clothes on top of the magazine box :D. I have an old TV box, (those big ones) where I stock my car magazines & engineering magazines since early 2000..... I'll probably end up making something like this for my self too. Thanks for the video... keep it up.
I love that all your design pieces are very unique but they all feel cohesive. I need a house as designed by Simone Giertz filled with Giertz furniture. Gimme a plamp in the entryway, a puzzle table in the dining room (with incomplete white puzzle), spool table in the living room, a daily goal calendar in the office with my chair to share with my pup, and the lazy Susan style arm chair for my half dirty clothes in the bedroom.
Whenever I'm watching a Simone Giertz video I'm reminded that I'm already in love with Simone Giertz
That's an effin' brilliant idea, and a great first prototype. Now for the refinements for aesthetics (minor) and manufacturability with the goal of being able to flatpack the product (totally doable).
So...type to move from CAD (cardboard aided design) to real CAD and CAM.
With coathingers, this new not-too-dirty laundry chair and coordinating basket, you're building out a very nice product suite that you'll have absolutely zero problem selling.
Well done, as usual.
I don't know why the algo showed this to me - I've been watching nothing but politics, F1, scifi, docus, and Hoyo games vids - but I am GLAD it did.
That was amazing.
And for recognizing that not all clothes are once-worn only.
And making a chair for them.
Which I would SO buy.
simone i would 100000% buy this chair!! not only is it a smart and practical design but it also just looks so good?? like take my money please!
(if you end up selling this and it's not available in europe im gonna be so disappointed frfr)
There's definitely a lot of appealing aspects to this chair's design and a million ways to customize the swiveling aspect to a multitude of uses. this is super inspiring.
