Is it wrong to say I like Hisuian form more? Something about it having the shell fully completes its origins and references. That and it kind of gets cuter with the relaxed eyes.
Biggest violation of all time was not giving OG Goodra a secondary typing. Imagine Dragon/Water or Dragon/Poison on Goodra. Also Goodra being the only defensively oriented pseudo-legendary Pokemon but not getting Recover is just disrespectful.

Dragon-Water would've been perfect imo. It makes sap sipper more useful by negating one of water's only two weaknesses, is just generally a good typing for a bulky mon like Goodra, and fits with Goodra's connection to water in its inspiration and evolution method

Either it being part Water or Dragon would have let it stood out defensively, instead of the decent mono Dragon type. Plus Poison/Dragon STAB is nearly unresisted which it can hit Steels with super effective coverage options.
Deffo, and honestly poison makes more sense to me. At least it's not like a certain youtuber who got annoyed because they were told why bug type makes no sense because gamefreak has been remarkably consistent in sticking to the colloquial broad definition of what is a bug (terrestrial arthropods) Weirdly, the exception to this is the dwebble line ('cause crabs) and arguably shelmet though given accelgor is a bagworm it's classification might be a result of that.
Being part poison type would promote how the new fairy types are weak to poison types and would make Goodra stand out a bit more amongst the other pseudo legendary Pokémon. But suppose Goodra’s Hisuian form does partially make up for how Goodra is the only pure pseudo legendary Pokémon and gave Goodra an edge against fairy types.
It is strange that it didn't talk about the combination of Goodra and Comfey in VGC during the period of the 8th Generation. That combo was actually good.
I’m glad it got a regional variant due to the coveted Steel/Dragon type that’s not a legendary. We have Duraludon but it has bad special bulk and it’s not as versatile in terms of coverage, aside from maybe ID + BP and can set up Stealth Rock.

Hisiuan Goodra looks like it'll be incredibly good in VGC. It'll be doing what goodra normally would but better, with a better typing, better stat spread, and same good coverage.
Hisuian Goodra was already released to Scarlet/Violet before this video was put up. Kind of wish Goodra as a whole (regular and Hisuian) got better looks in the meta before this video came out, but Hisuian Goodra is better than regular Goodra at first glance because Steel/Dragon is a better defensive typing than mono Dragon.
It mainly has never really been able to be played in a format that matters enough yet. It has seen play, but NatDex isn't really a good place to judge when fricking things like Mega Slowbro is in UU. HGoodra seems like a pretty nice buff to our friend shaped snail dragon, but with all the Grounds in the meta right now, I fear for its viability. Getting 2HKO'd even by a more defensive Great Tusk or standard Landorus-I is going to make it less viable. Still it had a good niche in blanking Regieleki, but Iron Treads had it beat since it had the possibility of outspeeding it.
And now for your regularly scheduled Goodra fact of the decade: Goodra is the only monotype pseudo legendary, despite the fact the in game lore dictates that it could be either poison or water type as well. Kind of a shame.
Not only is it one of the cutest pseudo legendaries and dragon types, but one of the cutest pokemon period. I don't care if I ruin my clothes, I will shower the gooey boy with hugs and kisses.
Hopefully the Hisuian version will be better. Dragon/Steel is a very good typing and it has the coverage to deal with a lot of common threats while being very bulky on the specially defensive side and decently bulky in the physical side. The main downside is that if you want recovery you're stuck with Life Dew instead of Recover.
so many hisui pokemon getting released i think you should do a hisui vid special, a vid where every pokemon you've already covered that got a hisui form gets a segment
I love Goodra. 150 special defence, respectable HP, ATK and SPA stats at 90, 100 and 110 make it a great special wall that can put out decent damage. Sap Sipper allows it to pair well with Swampert to get free switches on Kartana and Ferrothorn- that was my main usage in Gen 8. And seeing a Specs Moonblast from Tapu Lele deal only 30% is always nice. It’s a shame that Goodra gets outclassed by other special walls that have reliable recovery, and outclassed by other, faster attackers.
Looking forward to it eventually getting updated accounting for Hisuian Goodra since Scarlet & Violet have formally introduced it via Home support OR you prepped a Goomy and used Home to evolve it in your PLA save file.
Goodra is one of my favorite dragons. Based on it's stats, one can tell that GameFreak were trying to make Goodra the next Blissey. It also has a lot of design similarities to Dragonite and Meganium too. Much like Meganium, Goodra got a raw deal when it was introduced. With so many powerful offensive dragons in Gen VI like Mega Zard X, Mega Sceptile, Mega Salamence, and Mega Latios/Latias, it's impact on the meta was negligible. It was a solid tank that could go physical or special but had nothing beyond that. It had no utility nor reliable recovery. It's Hisuian form was introduced recently with a far better stat distribution, incredible defensive typing, and terastalization potential to be a truly great tank. H-Goodra still shares base Goodra's lack of utility and recovery but is in a far better position and is viable overall. If H-Goodra ever got Recover, Hazards, and Defog, it would be a truly excellent Dragon.
Crazy that you uploaded this. I just revisited X and Y after ten years, got a shiny, modest Goodra. It's been a star on my team, but even using it, you can tell that it isn't as great as the pseudos that came before
Hydration Goodra with Rest was on my most successful gen 6 team and it still worked in gen 7 when Pelipper got Drizzle. It made Goodra pretty hard to kill and it wasn't all that uncommon to see, so I'm a little surprised it wasn't mentioned here.
My favorite pokemon! One of the cutest dragon types. I fell in love with it thanks to pokemon-amie; it remains energetic and bouncy when fully evolved, while other fully evolved pokemon start to get all serious and understated in their movements.
My favourite Pokemon finally gets the spotlight on FSG! I'm not really a competitive player but I've been watching your videos since the original Blastoise video, I always wondered how Goodra did competitively, it was the first pokemon I tried breeding perfect IVs for back in X/Y and while I did get a 5IV modest Goodra I didn't really know what moves or item to put on it so I just picked 4 strong special attacks, slapped a Leftovers on it and took it to the Battle Maison along with 2 other pokemon. I always wanted to try playing competitive doubles but I mainly want to use Goodra and hearing that it's only "just fine" and not as good as other pokemon kinda demotivates me from trying. I feel like a good buff to give Goodra would be giving it a real recovery move that isn't Life Dew, it's a goopy slug boi it looks like it should learn something like Recover. I don't know how overpowered it might be as a wall but I feel the overall nerf to recovery moves in Gen 9 wouldn't make it too broken as a wall since it doesn't resist many physically oriented types like Fighting or Ground as well as it's mediocre physical bulk.
Honestly I like that Game Freak tried something different with Goodra instead of making another Big Scary Powerful Attacker. Edit: If other people don't like Goodra that's fine, I'm not a competitive player so I can't really judge it on a competitive stand point. I honestly just like it when Game Freak tries to experiment.
The problem with Goodra is that its ANOTHER Tank that lacks recovery. If this thing had Regenerator, Slowking would kneel. Gamefreak is way too poor when it comes to designing defensive pokemon.
I love watching these videos and know the votes go towards patrons, however I would love to see a Heatran video, since ive yet to see someone talk about it in depth
Goodra is a Pokemon that just suffers from having a kit that does not work together. It's stats are defensively leaning but he lacks any utility moves for a wall like hazards, knock off, status, recovery etc. His movepool is offensively leaning but it's held back by his average attacking stats and speed and mono Dragon typing not giving it secondary stab. Using Goodra feels like it has an identify crisis. It tries to be an offensive/defensive mon but it struggles to do either let alone both. It's trying to be a very average generalist lacking tools that work well together in a game where you have 6 slots and can easily run specialists.
I was hoping the VGC 2020 Series 6 Goodra Lapras and Comfey core would be discussed. That trio was sooo tanky and at the top of the meta even if it was only for one summer. Yeah Series 6 wasn’t the format for any tournaments, but still a time for Goodra to shine in gen 8 VGC.
Ngl it feels like this episode should have waited a few weeks so it could include Goodra-H. Ik this was the patron pick but maybe they should have picked it later lol
@Jigglypuff for sure! Getting into more broken realms you could swap its att and hp stats or att and def so it still has 600 total but more usable for its role
So Im pretty sure I heard you say "its inspiration its a mythical surfer from french folkrore" and even tho I know its not what you say, now Im in love with the idea of a mythical surfer folklre in France
There was a format in gen 8 vgc where the top ten most used mons were banned and Goodra briefly became top tier. People used it with sap sipper + giga drain Comfey and swept whole teams after dynamaxing.
Goodras' core weakness (in singles) is the inability to recover damage. Goodra can tank more neutral damage than practically any other pseudo, but since he cant't heal on demand, his role as a tank is simply not as stable in singles. Overall though, easily one of my favorite pseudos, even if it isn't busted.
Hisuian Goodra is available in Scarlet and Violet as of 3 ish days ago actually. Probably too late for the editing of the video. Hope there is some ad-lib at the end referencing it
i am actually first !! goodra was always really weird as what to do with it like offenively it wasnt really that strong despite of having insane coverage and defensively looked insane but in theory was frail on physdef side and lacked recovery . would have been much better with an extra typing and reliable recovery
Tbh all goodra would need is acid armor and recover, (two moves that already fit into it's theme) and it would probably be the best pseudo-legendary ever
I have an idea for the next "theorem" vid: the Chansey/dusclops theorem: where you don't really need to be fully evolved in order to be a great mon, like mons with eviolite, middle stage mons with actual niches in the lower tiers like golbat, etc
You can see how the script was written some time ago because it mentions "not being released yet" regarding the hisuian form instead of "coming pretty soon" or "came right now"
The fact that he learn alot of water type attack and that he litteraly love rain so much that he can heal from it and still doesn't have the water type is criminal
Man, part of me loves that Goodra is a very cool pure dragon, I also kinda wish that Goodra was also part water or part poison too. Might have helped him a lot competitvely
You’d think Sliggoo needing to evolve in the rain would make sense for Goodra to be a Dragon/Water type when it evolved. But I guess this is just another nonsensical decision on GF’s part.

I appreciate that they can talk and see the other side. It helps with me trying to explore what I could do.
Goodra is very rounded, harmonious, and feminine. It's the opposite of Garchomp which is very tough looking.
While both are defensive and offensive powerhouses, respectively
Fair warning, don’t go around calling Goodra feminine. There’s some…bad history in the Pokemon fandom associated with that.
I don’t see how it’s feiminine
@@PhoenixAce pear shaped and big thighs, friendly face, pinkish color, I'd say those are more associated with femininity
@@shiawase8694 that just sounds obese bruh
Honestly I like that Game Freak tried something different with Goodra instead of making another Big Scary Powerful Attacker.
Edit: If other people don't like Goodra that's fine, I'm not a competitive player so I can't really judge it on a competitive stand point. I honestly just like it when Game Freak tries to experiment.
@Shoreline Fishing I don’t know why it doesn’t even get Recover. Slugs can self-regenerate, after all.
The problem with Goodra is that its ANOTHER Tank that lacks recovery. If this thing had Regenerator, Slowking would kneel. Gamefreak is way too poor when it comes to designing defensive pokemon.
@@butteredsalmonella Why is that so important as to be overrated, especially since they now have less PP?
@@butteredsalmonella Although poor doesn’t seem fair to say when balancing around a format they themselves don’t run.
@Shoreline Fishing Honestly I think that's what Hisuian Goodra is for. Honestly I just committed game freak for trying out something different.
I love watching these videos and know the votes go towards patrons, however I would love to see a Heatran video, since ive yet to see someone talk about it in depth
I feel like this video is going to be HEAVILY recommended for a redo as soon as this next meta runs in. Hisuian Goodra looks TOO good!
so glad to see my favourite pokemon get it's video :)
I just love a Pokémon who’s both adorable and could handily kick your ass.
Ngl it feels like this episode should have waited a few weeks so it could include Goodra-H. Ik this was the patron pick but maybe they should have picked it later lol
I could care less how good Goodra was competitively, It's still one of my favorite pokemon of all time period!!
Giving goodra regenerator would totally make sense to me and make it a reliable pivot
Recover too
@Jigglypuff for sure!
Hisuian Goodra was the much needed buff for our boi Goodra
Idk why y'all would make a goodra vid and not wait until you could anaylze it's new form.
Hope there is some ad-lib at the end referencing it
Wish the patreons could have waited a bit for the video to add whatever his hisuian counterpart does now in-game.
Should've waited longer because of Hisuian pokemon. These forms are actually really good in the competitive scene.
One of my top favourites
Sap sipper goodra with a petal blizzard partner is fun in doubles as it gets rock slide and eq. Been using meowscarada but before then had a venusaur.
I've been waiting for this one🥰
my fav dragon along with giratina. its so adorable
i am actually first !! goodra was always really weird as what to do with it like offenively it wasnt really that strong despite of having insane coverage and defensively looked insane but in theory was frail on physdef side and lacked recovery . would have been much better with an extra typing and reliable recovery
now that hisuian goodra us legal, I wish this video waited till after worlds since it might have some fun placements there
Ngl this is kinda funny timing wise. Goodra is my fave Pokémon and the vid was published today which is my birthday!
Tbh all goodra would need is acid armor and recover, (two moves that already fit into it's theme) and it would probably be the best pseudo-legendary ever
think you should've waited a month or two so you can speak about hisui goodra
0:53 Kellen made an oopsie, H-Goodra is available in SV.
7:20 dem alliterations 😊
I have an idea for the next "theorem" vid: the Chansey/dusclops theorem: where you don't really need to be fully evolved in order to be a great mon, like mons with eviolite, middle stage mons with actual niches in the lower tiers like golbat, etc
might be a bit early on this one since hisuian goodra got released into sv from home a few days ago
I’ve been in love with Goodra since it was introduced 😂 I love how derpy it looks
I know we won’t be getting one for a while still, but the first gen 8 Pokémon that’s on this channel has to be dragapult, the goat
You can see how the script was written some time ago because it mentions "not being released yet" regarding the hisuian form instead of "coming pretty soon" or "came right now"
Kinda nuts that something with a solid movepool, great stats, decent ability, and good typing could be down in RU
"Hasn't been released in the main line games at the time of this video." Wrong!
The fact that he learn alot of water type attack and that he litteraly love rain so much that he can heal from it and still doesn't have the water type is criminal
Turns out hisuian goodra is terrifying when it sets up for body press.
Man, part of me loves that Goodra is a very cool pure dragon, I also kinda wish that Goodra was also part water or part poison too. Might have helped him a lot competitvely
I've been waiting for goodras video.
I ran a physical max spd def assault vest goodra eith sap sipper it was amazing in gen 8
You’d think Sliggoo needing to evolve in the rain would make sense for Goodra to be a Dragon/Water type when it evolved.
But I guess this is just another nonsensical decision on GF’s part.
Goodra Dragon/Poison still is my dream
Ah yes Goodra. The slime feti- I mean dragon pokemon.
