Imagine it became a grass/fire pokemon in the sun and its stats got swapped around similar to those of Aegislash, turning it into a speedy, special attacker. Sometimes, the creative possibilities game freak misses out on are truly frustrating.
I think forms were new when Cherrim was released so Cherrim changing forms at all was the gimmick. I don't think forms had stat differences until later.
It does make me happy when these pokemon do actually get some time in the sun. Something about seeing a small pokemon with bad base stats hold their own within the realm of monsters, even if it's just on a few occasions is just so fun to see.
Cherubi and Cherrim might actually be the earliest Pokémon that I tend to just forget even exist. Like I've long since been unable to memorize the numerical order of every Pokémon, but there aren't really that many that show up and I'm like "oh yeah, I forgot this existed". But this is definitely one of them. Has it even been in a game since its debut generation?
I think it's worth noting that Cherrim gets a pretty major stat buff from sunshine in Legends Arceus, which might carry over into gen 9 when (or if) Cherrim's released.
It literally could've been so much better if Game Freak made Flower Gift boost the correct stat, or just made it more of a physical attacker. Though dangit it looks so cute, look at that little smile on the Sunshine form
I remember that Cherrim got a stat boost in Pokemon Legends Arceus that, accommodating for that game's lack of abilities, increased its Attack and Special Defense while it was sunny. Man, wouldn't it be cool if that sort of boost could apply to Cherrim the next time it appears? Like, something, anything?
The bst boost is only there to compensate the lack of abilities. Also, this stat increase is somehow weaker than the boost provided by the ability. And Cherubi (hahahahaha) on the top, there's no move nor abilities to control weather and the weather is entirely dynamic so good luck when it starts raining.
Flower Gift is _entirely_ a VGC centered ability. They wanted Cherrim to just be a support mon, which is why it buffs the weaker of its attack stats. Too bad it took four gens for it to even get good support moves.
I've been waiting years to share this information but Cherrim was on the final bosses team in Pokemon Battle Revolution. If you look up Mysterial’s Masters Team you'll see it there alongside Groudon.
Love Cherrim, such a shame that a super cute and happy Pokémon like that is so weak, so here is my dream Cherrim Buff : -Make it a potential glass cannon. I mean, its defenses are alredy low, so just boost its Att, Sp. Att and Speed stats to acceptable levels -Make Flower Gift a guaranted Quiver Dance in the sun. I mean why not, it's not like it will be broken even with it, there are plenty of broken abilities on already strong mons (Looking at you Garganacl) and it fits with its always moving personality, so yeah -Give it a dual type under the Sun, like how Zen Mode Darmanitan gains Psychic type. Fairy or Fire is fine, just something And boom there you have it, an actually usable, but probably not broken Cherrim. Anyway great vid, litterally dropped everything to watch this because I love this little flower cutie lol
@Blue Aizu The Nidoqueen thing is intentional, weirdly enough. In a recently translated Pokémon book from the Gen 1 days, it was already stated that Nidoqueen is unable to breed prior to the introduction of the mechanic. Don't think a proper reason was ever given though, so it can probably be chalked up to a weird Japanese Christmas Cake thing.
Fun enough, Cherrim is good in Pokémon Go’s battle meta too. Although not as common as other Pokémon, Cherrim is primarily used in Great League by being a heavy fast attacker along with pulling out spam charge moves using seed bomb and surprising foes with Weather Ball fire.
Was cherim designed specifically for groudon or something Grass/ground/fire cover each others weaknesses Groudon sets sun for cherrima flower gift Flower gift boosts groudons spdef and atk which are its lowest and highest stats respectively
I remember coming up with random stat ideas for this mon a while ago. A bst of 450 is actually decent; that's Chansey/Lokix and more than Clodsire, for the uninitiated. The issue is with its stat _spread,_ which is about as good as a kid's playdough project during free time. Change it's stats to: HP: 70 -> 90 ATK: 60 -> 50 DEF: 70 -> 100 SP.A: 87 -> 67 SP.D: 78 -> 98 SPD: 85 -> 45 So what gives, all that happened was it became a slow, defensive Grass mon. If anything, that could make it potentially worse because it is more passive! Well, that's where the _next_ stat spread comes in. In the data of all Pokemon games, different forms are classified as entirely different entries, meaning entirely different stat spreads, height, weight, learnset, etc. Pokemon like Rotom, Castform, and in this case Cherrim _could_ have different stats depending on their form, but Game Freak chooses not to give them that. The obvious fix is to give them tailor made new stat spreads, if not a bst bump (at least for Castform's case, but that is a topic for another day). So let's do that, and give Sunshine form Cherrim unique stats: HP: 70 -> 90 ATK: 60 -> 90 DEF: 70 -> 40 SP.A: 87 -> 67 SP.D: 78 -> 48 SPD: 85 -> 115 While on paper, those stats might not seem impressive, remember its ability. With Flower Gift offering an impressive 1.5x boost to Attack, that base 90 when fully invested beats even _Ash-Greninja's Special Attack,_ reaching 459 vs Ash-Gren's 445. It also reaches 115 base Speed; while not being exactly Chlorophyll, it allows it to outspeed mons like H-Zoroark, Mega Diancie, the Lati@s, and, most notably in this meta, Garchomp. It's moveset also isn't too bad either nowadays. Back in Gen 7, about when I came up with this idea, it was left with only Petal Blizzard and Rollout as its main attacking moves. -That's probably why I increased its bst to 500 back then.- Nowadays, it has access to Play Rough and _Solar Blade,_ which makes sweeping in the sun a lot easier. The former allows you to break past any pesky Dragon types. With Life Orb and the sun, Play Rough guaranteed OHKOs offensive Latias and safely 2HKOs max/max variants. The previously mentioned Garchomp also gets easily 2HKO'd by Solar Blade. You think Gholdengo is a safe switch in? Weather Ball even off of its 67 Sp. Atk lands a solid 2HKO on defensive variants as well, while max Sp. Atk evs Make it Rain fails to OHKO back in the sun even with its pitiful 48 Sp. Def. Flower Gift working double duty in that match-up. For such a unique ability in Flower Gift, Cherrim deserves to have at least a niche in competitive play. It's a shame seeing it relegated to obscurity like this. But hey, if there's any gen that would give random, insane boosts to old mons, it's the current gen.
Very nice I'd like to see some videos on Pokémon type combos which were recently added in Scarlet & Violet; e.g. Lokix (bug/dark), Grafaiai (poison/normal), Revavroom (steel/poison) etc. Also a video on how Chien-Pao has become a superior dark/ice slot compared to Weavile
Well, weavile lost knock off, it's main utility move which was also it's preferred stab, Chien- Pao on the other hand has the same movepool plus crunch (way better stab) and a better ability. I enjoy a lot the type combo Revavroom has, by sure 4x ground weakness is harsh but it's only weak to fire beyond that and has a lot of resistances, also both stabs of revavroom are x2 against fairy so you can not run a poison stab and choose a steel stab plus coverage moves.
I think we have to wait for the new Gen 9 Pokémon for at least 5 more months. Expect those who are cross evolutions/regional forms of Pokemon not done yet such as Lilligant, Braviary, and Avalugg.
@shattermelon They're real You literally could have looked them up That was all you needed to do You didn't even do the bare minimum of fact-checking yourself before making an objectively false statement Let this be a learning lesson
You know a mon’s had it rough when Kellen doesn’t ask at the end “How would you buff x?” That ending was a plea for help. A cry for an imaginative substitute of reality, where Cherrim was at least usable in any tier.
Okay, first of all change flower gift to sp.a and sp.d rather than being att and sp.d. Second drop it's attack to 30 and add 50 to its bst to make it a 500 bst pokemon and giving you 80 bst to reallocate. Add 25 to its health, 15 to its speed and 20 to its sp.a and sp.d. that gives you a 95 HP, 98 sp.d wall with flower gift support that hits a 100 speed tier on 107 sp.a.
Honestly, a lot of Cherrim's problems can be solved by either buffing it's Attack and shuffling its movepool or reworking Flower Gift to have it strictly boost both Special stats. And why not, throw in Quiver Dance, it's already in the pits, might as well make it Volcarona-tier terrifying in those pits.
Change flower gift to give it's teammate the same buffs from stat increasing moves. Use growth in the sun? That's a +2 in both atk and sp.atk for both cherrim and it's partner. And so it's not useless in singles make cherrim a grass/fairy under the sun. I don't think cherrim should be automatically grass/fairy so you can work around poison types which cherrim would be now 4x weak and would likely die to a Weedle's poison sting. Finally give cherrim a fairy move, a fire move and I'd suggest a new move in which locks in the current weather effect untill it naturally ends.
There are only two real changes that Cherrim needs: 1) Have Flower Gift give Cherrim the stats its Sunshine Form has in _Legends: Arceus,_ on top of increasing both of it and its allies attacking and defensive stats by 1.25x. Cherrim isn't a strong Pokémon and it requires a double battle for other Pokémon to be affected so it won't be game-breaking. 2) Make it a Grass/Fairy type. Fairy is basically the Light-type and Sun is based around harsh sunlight so....
An ancient version of Cherrim that had physical attacking capabilities. It would also explain why Cherrim has an attack boosting ability today. Some silly name like Cherrim Bomb 🤷🏽♂️
while i'm all for shitting on such wasted potential, it's worth mentioning that petal blizzard doesn't lock you into it. that move is petal dance which only saw play thanks to liligant having own tempo. you'd set up quiver dance after landing sleep powder and spam petal dance. petal blizzard is just a 90 bp physical grass move that hits adjacent like earthquake and surf.
how to make it usefull? buff stats by +10 in each and either change the ability to sp att boost instead of att or change the attack and sp att stats. that way it might be able to do something in PU atleast. maybe give them a couple of more tricks like you know a cool signature move or something.
Give it 2 evolutions, one based on each form - no sun form gains either dark or ghost type and maybe an ability focused on draining moves? I dunno, the flavor is that it needs to drain stuff as a parasite without the sun -sunny form gains the fairy or fire type, drought and friend guard as abilities and an insane doubles support move pool. I'm talking fake out, helping hand, u turn, maybe even some redirection
I think it would work better with Prankster. or if we a regional or similar variant; a Flower Gift in the Rain Pokemon! Mossy Bloom! Boosts Special Attack and Defense in the rain! Could honestly keep is pure water and it would still work out with similar stats imo.
I remember in high school I’d run a meme set on Showdown where I had a Cherrim and Primal Groudon in Doubles. Every time a Kyogre would appear I’d lose, since I only had those two, but it was still really fun. I think I named the Groudon Jimmy Dean? For some reason?
I will never understand giving it base 60 attack even if they swapped it with the 87 special, a plus 1 still isn’t great. It would make it barely passable BEFORE all the power creep.
I always liked Cherrim and wanted to use it in playthrough teams of gen 4, but I could never manage to find the dang thing on honey trees even if I did remember to go back and check them. It's design is absolutely adorable and I was really pleasantly surprised to see it had some use in doubles! Honestly, I think at this point it just needs a full on evolution. It evolves at level 25, that's plenty reasonable. Have it's evolution put it in something akin to its sunshine form permanently, double it's attack stat, buff its speed and special defense (and physical defense too, just a little), and give it drought with the benefits of flower gift.
Was Game Freak trying to experiment with a mixed attacker by using a special attacker like Cherrim and giving it an ability that boosts it's physical attack in the sun?

I think forms were new when Cherrim was released so Cherrim changing forms at all was the gimmick. I don't think forms had stat differences until later.
@uberculex nah Rotom which was released in the same gen had the appliance forms and those have different stats compared to base rotom
@@carlosx8603 Also, I forgot about Giratina so I was just wrong.
The first video in the new scheduled upload time!!
Time to change the habit to watch FSG’s new video on Sunday to Friday
I like how not every Pokémon is incredible, some are just more suited to being pets or companions
It does make me happy when these pokemon do actually get some time in the sun. Something about seeing a small pokemon with bad base stats hold their own within the realm of monsters, even if it's just on a few occasions is just so fun to see.
@@determineddaaf3 Agreed tbh, it feels nice to see them succeed
One of the Pokemon of all time
A 17 min rant. Didn't expected that. But I dig it. Satire honesty :D
Think it was in 1 of the gen 5 games?
Sorry for the late response, but Cherrim does appear in Sword & Shield's base game.
Though dangit it looks so cute, look at that little smile on the Sunshine form
it may be trash tier competitively but it is OU/Ubers for inducing smiles in people
Well that did significantly better than I expected. I did not think Cherrim would ever be anywhere near winning worlds, let alone having WON IT!
Since we're doing a trashy Honey Tree Pokémon now, maybe we could get the odd yet unfortunate Wormadam for our next FSG assessment.
Gotta love Trash Wormadam
@@HazeEmry used one on my Pokémon Y playthrough. Microplastic was a very good girl.
I keep thinking just should try a challenge run with all the burmy evos
We need Ambipom
@@AwakeningShadows we already got it and it suffered heavily from being so popular goddammit
I feel like with how Flower Gift works, they meant to have its attack and special attack swapped. It doesn't make much sense otherwise.
Cherrim is one of my favorite pokemon so thank you for this video!
Can’t believe the constant flow this week, been making it so much nicer
cherrim was my absolute favorite pokemon as a kid. seeing it finally get some sort of recognition puts a big smile on my face :')
If Leafeon is the poor man's Venusaur, then Cherrim is the homeless man's Leafeon.
Love Cherrim, such a shame that a super cute and happy Pokémon like that is so weak, so here is my dream Cherrim Buff :
-Make it a potential glass cannon. I mean, its defenses are alredy low, so just boost its Att, Sp. Att and Speed stats to acceptable levels
-Make Flower Gift a guaranted Quiver Dance in the sun. I mean why not, it's not like it will be broken even with it, there are plenty of broken abilities on already strong mons (Looking at you Garganacl) and it fits with its always moving personality, so yeah
-Give it a dual type under the Sun, like how Zen Mode Darmanitan gains Psychic type. Fairy or Fire is fine, just something
And boom there you have it, an actually usable, but probably not broken Cherrim. Anyway great vid, litterally dropped everything to watch this because I love this little flower cutie lol
Not the "Don't use cherrim" set... 😭
I think Game Freak accidentally made Flower Gift increase Attack when they meant to increase Sp. Atk and couldn’t be bothered to change it back
@Blue Aizu
The Nidoqueen thing is intentional, weirdly enough. In a recently translated Pokémon book from the Gen 1 days, it was already stated that Nidoqueen is unable to breed prior to the introduction of the mechanic. Don't think a proper reason was ever given though, so it can probably be chalked up to a weird Japanese Christmas Cake thing.
I do not think I've heard Kellen this mad in the four years I've watched this channel
10:01 to 10:11 you can feel the pain being expressed from the depths of FSG's soul.
Petal Blizzard wasnt an outrage clone that was Petal Dance, Petal Blizzard was more like Earthquake in hitting all pokemon.
Petal Blizzard doesn't actually lock into into using the move.
You're thinking of Petal Dance.
I forgot that uploads could happen on Friday but I can't complain FSG content is still great
Jack and “s**t” are great buffs
Fun enough, Cherrim is good in Pokémon Go’s battle meta too. Although not as common as other Pokémon, Cherrim is primarily used in Great League by being a heavy fast attacker along with pulling out spam charge moves using seed bomb and surprising foes with Weather Ball fire.
Was cherim designed specifically for groudon or something
Grass/ground/fire cover each others weaknesses
Groudon sets sun for cherrima flower gift
Flower gift boosts groudons spdef and atk which are its lowest and highest stats respectively
I remember coming up with random stat ideas for this mon a while ago. A bst of 450 is actually decent; that's Chansey/Lokix and more than Clodsire, for the uninitiated. The issue is with its stat _spread,_ which is about as good as a kid's playdough project during free time.
Change it's stats to:
HP: 70 -> 90
ATK: 60 -> 50
DEF: 70 -> 100
SP.A: 87 -> 67
SP.D: 78 -> 98
SPD: 85 -> 45
So what gives, all that happened was it became a slow, defensive Grass mon. So let's do that, and give Sunshine form Cherrim unique stats:
HP: 70 -> 90
ATK: 60 -> 90
DEF: 70 -> 40
SP.A: 87 -> 67
SP.D: 78 -> 48
SPD: 85 -> 115
While on paper, those stats might not seem impressive, remember its ability.
Does anyone here consider stat calcs at level 50, specifically if buffing for VGC purposes?
Already know this is going to be an amazing video!
Very nice
I'd like to see some videos on Pokémon type combos which were recently added in Scarlet & Violet; e.g.
Expect those who are cross evolutions/regional forms of Pokemon not done yet such as Lilligant, Braviary, and Avalugg.
those aren't real pokemon
@@shattermelon496 yes they are.
@shattermelon
They're real
You literally could have looked them up
That was all you needed to do
You didn't even do the bare minimum of fact-checking yourself before making an objectively false statement
Let this be a learning lesson
The twist in the middle of the video made me smile, that was beautiful.
Isn't Petal Blizzard just a physical grass-surf? It's not Petal Dance and not close to Outrage
Oh snap. I forgot you did that poll to upload on Fridays now, I was confused for a second.
Getting a 17 minute video AND it features Gen 4 VGC??? Cherrim is really full of surprises
15 out of those 17 minutes is just verbally abusing cherrim though
Love the random and welcoming video. Keep up the great videos
There are only two real changes that Cherrim needs:
1) Have Flower Gift give Cherrim the stats its Sunshine Form has in _Legends: Arceus,_ on top of increasing both of it and its allies attacking and defensive stats by 1.25x. Cherrim isn't a strong Pokémon and it requires a double battle for other Pokémon to be affected so it won't be game-breaking.
2) Make it a Grass/Fairy type. Fairy is basically the Light-type and Sun is based around harsh sunlight so....
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
“That’s it, that’s the video. Goodnight” followed by an instant ad…
Well played
An ancient version of Cherrim that had physical attacking capabilities. It would also explain why Cherrim has an attack boosting ability today. Some silly name like Cherrim Bomb 🤷🏽♂️
while i'm all for shitting on such wasted potential, it's worth mentioning that petal blizzard doesn't lock you into it. that move is petal dance which only saw play thanks to liligant having own tempo. you'd set up quiver dance after landing sleep powder and spam petal dance. petal blizzard is just a 90 bp physical grass move that hits adjacent like earthquake and surf.
Imagine how terrifying it would be in Doubles if Cherrim's Flower Gift boosted Special Attack and Speed lol
Cherrim is what happens when you slap Gen I balancing on a Gen IV Pokemon.
Great video as always. I really liked the top 5 most op pokemon in singles, so I think the top 5 worst pokemon in singles would be great.
Petal Blizzard is not an Outrage clone, you're thinking of Petal Dance
One of my faves, such a clever concept. Used it in my last playthrough of SwSh, alongside Torkoal!
Finally talking about my all time favorite Pokemon thank you guys
Imagine the World where Cherrim gives an Omni Boost to itself and Partner.
how to make it usefull? buff stats by +10 in each and either change the ability to sp att boost instead of att or change the attack and sp att stats. that way it might be able to do something in PU atleast. maybe give them a couple of more tricks like you know a cool signature move or something.
Give it 2 evolutions, one based on each form
- no sun form gains either dark or ghost type and maybe an ability focused on draining moves? I dunno, the flavor is that it needs to drain stuff as a parasite without the sun
-sunny form gains the fairy or fire type, drought and friend guard as abilities and an insane doubles support move pool. I'm talking fake out, helping hand, u turn, maybe even some redirection
I'm surprised kellen didn't make a joke video in which cherrim crushed the uber tier like he did with Ledian
Because Cherrim has at least had SOME success.
One of the extremely few Pokémon who I genuinely think looks better in its 3D model than its 2D sprite.
15:43 I let out the ugliest laugh because that caught me off guard
cherrim is why i got a physical zard y and ninetales on cart. i guess give it a evo with the legends arceus base stats atleast
Hopefully Cherrim returns in Scarlet and Violet. Love that Pokemon though.
I will never understand giving it base 60 attack even if they swapped it with the 87 special, a plus 1 still isn’t great. It would make it barely passable BEFORE all the power creep.
Cherrim is the strongest pokemon, he lived though all that and it still gives the biggest smile whenever the weather is nice.
When the video starts so amazing for Cherrim and then you see the set name "Don't use Cherrim" you know where it goes immediately.
I’m noticing a trend with Pokémon that get new forms in weather being utterly unusable in competitive
Petal blizzard is actually more of a weak earthquake clone, as it hit all Pokemon on the field
Isn't Petal Blizzard that 90 bp physical grass spread move, without locking in or other downsides? Did you mean Petal Dance?
Love videos about pokemon I don't often think about. Bronzong next perhaps?
One might say Kellen gave this flower a gift by shining a light on its unviability 😏
Was Game Freak trying to experiment with a mixed attacker by using a special attacker like Cherrim and giving it an ability that boosts it's physical attack in the sun?
You should do a channel where you show how a centrain gun performed through out time, like the M1911, M16 or AK-47.
I was today years old when I found out the lines on its bottom half in its Closed Form are its eyes.
It's Jirachi's chest eye all over again.
I love how passionate he gets when talking about really bad Pokemon
