One reason I don't like the 3D models as much as the sprites: Giratina's "wings" in the sprites looked like they were made of shadows. Minimal shading and the fact they were all one solid color gave them the appearance that they weren't really physical objects in our world, more like its wings were tears in reality leading to the distortion realm or something. *...Then the 3D models just made them look like black wrinkly socks*
Giratina is one where its sprite art waa just fantastic, so the models really don't hold up. I think my problem is that they're too smooth -- the spritw makes its body look ridged, while the model is flat. Rather than a ghost serpent with a golden skeleton it looks like a stripy slug with a mask. Also it looses the curve of its body that gave it a super nice profile, like most things with levitate. Gyarados loosing its iconic curled poses being another good example. I like the 3D models overall, but since this is one of my favorite pokemon its always been one that particularly bothered me.
Connor Stickels even the eh models were for the most part made worse on transition due to the lack of movement making all the 3D models look more lifeless then the sprites ( granted game freak has had more practice with sprites so it makes sense that for the most part it would be worse)
eat hot chip and lie it’s wings never looked like tears though. They were always blatantly tentacles since Giratina could lie them down and move them like tentacles as shown in Platinum and BW.
My favourite legendary, and the only one that gave even Arceus a headache in the time of creation. While not relevant to competitive, its shiny looks gorgeous.
I feel like you're kinda underplaying the prevalence of Giratina-Origin in gen 7. It was THE defogger because it was the only viable defog user that: 1. Wasn't weak to stealth rock 2. Wasn't immediately threatened by Primal Groudon's stone edge and actually threatened common setup variants like the rock polish or swords dance sets. It didn't really see much use on stall because of its lack of a reliable recovery compared to ho-oh and lugia but it definitely saw a lot of play on the super common bulky offense teams usually alongside both primals. It was far and away the best pokemon in the tier for this.
Thank you for finally covering one of my all time favorite pokemon. Personally I think Shadow Force is underrated as while yes it is a 2-turn semi-invulnurable physical move it has the unique property of blasting through Protect and Detect while also doing massive damage and getting STAB. Phantom Force from gen 6 is basically its little sibling with the same effects but less power. A shame Giratina isn't used much in VGC though as it has the potential with its signature move to be very annoying to face since its not uncommon to double target mons.
This dude always brings good points to the table. I always thought Rayquaza was far superior as a dragon legendary, but Giratina is more useful than I thought.

Fantastic design. Easily my favorite legendary. I'm a huge fan of both forms, and I think its fine with how its used. They both have their functions, regardless if one is more used or not. And thats rad
"Master of Sinnoh's creation trio" ....Isn't Arceus the master of it? I mean, it's like saying Registeel is the master of the Regi trio while Regigigas twiddles his thumbs in the background
Yeah, there's two different definitions of "trio master" floating around because Pokémon trios don't all work the same way, so imho, the community needs to clean up its terminology. 😅
So if the sinnoh remakes turn out to be in gen 8, then doesn't that mean that giratina might be getting a gigantamax form? (simular to how rayquaza got a mega in the hoenn remakes)
dynamax/gigantimax is region locked to the Galar region. Pokemon are only able to dynamax in Galar because of the special power spots where the gyms are built on top of that allow pokemon to be affected by the invisible Galar particles that these power spots emit. So pokemon can't dynamax/gigantimax outside of the Galar region because there is no power spots or Galar particles.
@@blacknight1257 they would have to make yet another alternate timeline for them to fit dynamax spots in, but even so, eternatus should get a role in the games and that seems unlikely
Maybe not 100% related to the video but back than people really loved how just one legendary got a 'origin form' in Platinum while nowadays people complain about a game while you can still catch so many different Pokémon or train for competitive battle with much easier ways for EV/IV training.

Giratina Halloween episode?
Nope
Giratina Christmas episode?
Yep
ay me nombraron :')
Yo, Ariel Romo here, thanks for the shotouts, really appreciate it.
Accidentally finding Giratina in gen 4 inside those ruins is a feeling that new Pokémon games will never achieve. Current Pokémon is so soulless
Fantastic design. Easily my favorite legendary. I'm a huge fan of both forms, and I think its fine with how its used. They both have their functions, regardless if one is more used or not. And thats rad
"Master of Sinnoh's creation trio"
....Isn't Arceus the master of it? I mean, it's like saying Registeel is the master of the Regi trio while Regigigas twiddles his thumbs in the background
Yeah, there's two different definitions of "trio master" floating around because Pokémon trios don't all work the same way, so imho, the community needs to clean up its terminology. 😅
@@autobotstarscream765 I'd say that Bulbapedia has their terminology for what a Trio Master rather cut and dry
*stares at level 1 regigigas*
Well yeah gigas is gonna be twiddling his thumbs; you know with that slow start and all...
I mean, that's basically all that regigigas does, if the video on regigigas taught me anything about it.
My first pokemon game was platinum. I remember my first team had a giratina named Tina.
good times
( 0:13 ) ... phantom has terrorized sans.
The dots aren't connecting😊
*Giratina's unique ability that breaks through Protect*
Urshifu with Unseen Fist in 2020: think again
Giratina surely wants sinnoh remakes for Christmas
Nothing sweeter than SINNOH on a snowy Christmas, happy holidays everyone!
How good will Sinnoh remakes confirmed actually be when it comes into our reality?
Oxnard Darcy Technically, it was Ohmori who decided the Dex cut would be permanent, not Masuda.
Oxnard Darcy I have the slightest concern that GF may be taking that into consideration.
I half expected it to end with, “And that’s how Giriatina became untiered, the highest dishonor for a fully evolved Pokémon”.
@@norsegoat1408 I'm referring to a possible remake. they could very easily add them into the game even if it maybe doesn't make much sense
"How good was Giratina?"
Yes.
