omg literally gonna watch this every time I feel shit about my work
I totally get feeling like shit about your own work being a musician, but holy shit please never feel bad about your string arrangements hahaha!
the string arrangements are insane! listening to the album was really engaging because of that, super gorgeous work
OH MY GOD 😭😭😭😭😭😭
this song is actually flawless
dodie this song is incrëdible
YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH I TOOK U TO WHEN KEY
This album feels like a story. Like, it really feels like the whole thing is stiched together. This is why you're my favorite artist :')
MISS MAM YOU LITERALLY MADE ME CRY WITH THAT TRANSITION IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND IMPACTFUL
OMG ANOTHER ONE
I AM SO LUCKY
AA DODIE SO FAST :00
Yeah, when I said "Im not sure why Im talking to you like you're watching" I can't say I was expecting this hahaha!
dodie reacting to Milen's videos is gold haha. dodie, I've just found out about you like LAST NIGHT and you already got me stuck into your songs day and night. they're so good. and the way you sing them is just... ugh lovely. J'adore! best of luck :)
it’s a guitar with a rubber bridge!! So super muted and cool
UR EYEBROW LIFT AT THE RESOLUTION omg this is literally all I have ever wanted lol
@@doddleoddle well you absolutely got it! Thank you so much for checking this out. The string arrangements on both of these songs have been jaw dropping
that's really cool! It was so soft I wasn't quite sure. Thank you for clarifying :D
@@doddleoddle That's when you know someone appreciates all the work that went into something🥰
Sounds almost like a cello
I love how all the early comments are just Dodie being excited, so wholesome
Bestie I think we're all gonna need u to go ahead and just react to her whole album lmao
Hard agree!
PLS but like all the way through start to finish bc the TRANSITIONS oh my god
@@ella-maealmond8753 YES DEFINITELY ABSOLUTELY
@@ella-maealmond8753 YES! Just went back to look at the song transitions after watching this video with new eyes, and not just the music, the clothes change in "." transitioning from Four Tequilas Down to Sorry 😭
Are we just going to ignore the text on the screen having an existential crisis?
the transition from sorry into when is literally my favourite thing in the album i think
My favorite is still probably “Four Tequilas Down” to “.”
Chills every time
thanks to all you new subscribers for the support!
Great suggestion on this one, "Sorry" was beautiful
What else you guys want me to listen to?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on “Hollywood” by Jukebox the Ghost - there are some really interesting stylistic changes that happen throughout the song.
If you wanted to do more dodie, it would be awesome to see you react to Before The Line and Four Tequilas Down
Porter Robinson- Wind Tempos! Porter also has a huge online fan base so u could attract their attention pretty easily
special girl - what are these instruments she’s using ???
I’d love to hear you listen to “somehow” by Tom Odell
can we talk about the uncomfortable delay in the beginning of the song tho? like the ukulele stops playing and you expect to hear her voice straight after but there’s an uncomfortable space/silence before she sings! def noticed this when singing along w her i always want to sing a little ahead. i feel like this is bc it’s meant to represent the uncomfy feeling you get before you start crying/breakdown like it’s building up but you can’t quite yet release those emotions, and then finally the release towards the end!! so beautiful
this was so chill and educational while also being not boring
exactly my thoughts!!
Also- this might be too much of a project but an analysis of this entire album would be so fucking cool, there’s so much story progression written throughout the songs, it begs to be listened to in full
i agree!! the best way to experience this album in its full glory is to listen all the way through. it all blends together so frickin beautifully.
YESYESYES the way the songs transition oh my god
i’m going to need you to review all my daughters and before the line please!!!!
Very jealous of your ability to pick chords out of the air like that
It’s that build to the sweeping orchestration and the transition to the relative minor that does it for me. (Also the eyebrow raising resolution) A beautiful song and a spectacular analysis!
this song is just pure emotions printed in a form of music 😭🖤
DUDE you seem like such an amazing person, so genuine and seeing how you just *feel* the music is uhhhghghg so good - also I LOVE the sarcastic ass comments you make about yourself, the little descriptions make the videos so much fun to watch ugh I’m happy I found your channel
Her soft, quiet, breathy singing has such an ASMR quality to it. Makes the whole thing seem like she is singing just to you. Love it.
That landing in d flat lydian always makes me cry.
@milenPS +milenPS Build A Problem has a deluxe download of instrumentals tooooo!
Your video looking at Dodie's 'When' popped up on my feed yesterday and totally intrigued me, so was hoping after watching it you'd eventually look at 'Sorry', it's my fave from the album. This is so fun to watch, hearing how much someone else appreciates how a song is put together, it's mesmerizing! Looking forward to seeing more 🤗
omg I love the little texts so comical and informational at the same time!! keep doing such good work man
the way you speak so gently makes me feel so comforted. i've had a rough day and this made me feel much safer. take care of yourself milen !!
this song makes my heart break so much and i can’t even explain how well done it is🥰
agreed 💔
I love this channel already. This makes me appreciate my music theory class (which is currently feeling very tedious) and makes me want to understand music even deeper! Keep it up!!
u really say ‘sorry’ like a canadian and i respect that as a canadian also
3:16 Don't ever sorry for let it go!!
Listened to this album and I kept thinking about how musical theatre-y it sounded! Especially with all the strings, and I feel like this song in combination with Four Tequilas Down tells a very clear story
its so incredible how we are both equally amazed and happy and excited and moved when you know so much and i know so little
Afther the "when" video i realy hoped you would cover this song and especially the more orchestral part. This week realy has been amazing with so much greate content.
I'm so glad my recommended sent me the last video and this one. I ADORE Dodie's music but even though I know it's special, this adds a layer so magnificent to it! like I get it! not just listen!
dodie is AMAZING at what she does and I don't understand people who say she's not that good because they clearly haven't listened to this album :/
These videos are so cool! I love dodie's music and to see it dissected is so insanely cool!!! And your explanation of music is so clear, this was fun
bestie, you playing the notes in the piano? somehow made me feel more emotional
DON'T BE SHY DO THE ENTIRE ALBUM
Your written comments on screen are so hilarious im dead 😂 I love it though cause for me, her music is just like you said, bullet to the feels. SO GOOD. Also from a music major theory standpoint I love hearing your analysis so thank you for that.
Please do an analysis of let it go, I wanna see the passion and learn new things
I love that the captions are becoming self-aware because of how dam good Dodie is! It's everything I need!
Wow, I’m so happy to have found your channel! This is one of my favorites on this album, it’s so haunting and tragic. Definitely gave me musical theatre vibes too. Kinda makes me think of Sleeping Beauty Once Upon a Dream, I don’t know how to describe it. Makes me emotional every time. I love The Dear Hunter, too! I’m subscribing :)
I’m sorry okay but after watching this again i just have to share some of my favourite songs (very much alike in ways to dodie’s). “You Only Need You” by Tom Rosenthal (acoustic, for the real shit), ALSO “One of Those Things” also by Tom, strung together beautifully with the spoken word of Paul Haworth, finally, something quite different but just pure genius, “Jogging” by Richard Dawson. klybye
If you have ever heard of the movie “Room” this string piece reminds me of that movie’s soundtrack.
6:49 (okay I can’t stop reacting appearently but) I coincidentally breathed in sync to this cord progression and realised the music feels like a chilling yet satisfying quick sigh (at least to me ofc idk anything about music, i should stop talking kbye)
Thank you so much for breaking the songs down musically - you've really opened my eyes (or my ears in this case 😏) to the amazing subtleties in the music and album. Truly appreciate Dodie's brilliance and level of care she put into her music / album so much more now.
7:50 Really does give The Dear Hunter vibes
gAHHHHHHH this makes me wanna study music more and formally learn composition 😭
thank you for these videos!
The little editing comments had me laughing, I love this
I also just came across your channel because of your last Dodie video and I am so glad I did- it‘s so interesting to hear what you have to say from your point of view and with your knowledge :))
I’d love to see your reaction to Pluto Projector by Rex Orange County!
im very very new to music theory and i never had a formal music education. your videos help me by sparking my interest to explore and learn more. i really enjoy your contents. you are awesome man!
The transitions are why this is the only album that I listen to in Spotify with the "Gapless" feature. It always takes me to a journey, more like a movie. It's a unique and incredible experience and I will forever love Dodie for it.
YESSS I'm so happy you're reacting to more dodie music😁❤️
thank you so much for this video and explaining it so eloquently!
i love your stuff dude dodie i so beautiful with her music
DUDE I came back to your channel to let you know that dodie is releasing the instrumental tracks and found another video! Great analysis💕
I'm so glad you reacted to this as well!! This song made me cry on the way to work, thank you thank you thank you thank you
It makes me soo happy to see you talking with such genuine appreciation about one of my favourite singer songwriters!
Love the little comments in your editing!
dodie and sondheim in one convenient video. my dreams are coming true.
I am trying to be an script writer (would not call me a professional ... yet ;D) ... everytime I am a bit stuck, I just put on some Dodie music and all of a sudden I am crushed under all the grand visuals that are conjured up as well as ideas for tragic emotional payoffs....
But boy do I have to wrack my brain over the setup LOL
god i already love this man
if you'd like a suggestion on what to analyze next, i recommend porter robinson!! trust me here, man - his new album 'nurture' is just pure magic. plus, i can almost guarantee that'll bring some views :)
so excited to watch this video!!! when the album came out i listened to this song blasting on repeat, just for the beautiful strings
i love this
I loved this so much! really looking forward to what other songs you analyse. song analyses are great inspiration as well :D
i really appreciate that you write down every important explanation and chords thanks ^^ also , thanks to dodie you are amazing girl
i love the energy of this video, you have a soft voice too :)
Hi! Loved this. I'm looking forward to watch more of your videos.
I have a request for you. Would be AmAzInG if you analyze Cody Fry's "I Hear a Symphony" or "Photograph".
The swell of the music (the movie soundtrack bit) always feel very Danny Elfman to me. The chord progression feels like something out of Corpse Bride or Edward Scissorhands
A9, E over G sharp, f#minor, d maj inverted
leaving a comment so this ages like wine when this channel has 1 mil subs. current sub count: 455
I need to see him react to Before the Line by dodie
Can you do another dodie song - special girl and YEBBA - distance
6:44 you totally just played Down by ... Dodie there haha
hear me out...build a problem reaction/analysis
657 subscribers?? Oh hell naw
