oh my gosh watching you cry at secret for the mad is making me cry 😢 it was so amazing to watch you dissect it musically and you absolutely nailed it because I can see you just get it
“She” was the song I played on repeat for like 3 hours whilst crying cuz I was accepting the fact I was bisexual in that moment and I was very emotional
absolutely, its also been a song I've listened to a lot recently as I've struggled with feelings for a close friend of mine, and whether or not i should say something in fear of losing her as even though she likes women she's never shown any sign of feeling that way towards me. (sorry for the vent, but I feel this is a place she wouldn't see it and people who may understand or be in similar situations will)
She is about dodie being in love with a straight girl. She is a bi queen. It was the first WLW (women love women) media I ever came across. Her first version of this song was posted like back in 2015. I heard it in probably 2017. Dodie literally saved my life and brought me out of a bad numbness. I have her book and she included some journal entries from when she was younger. I searched for one word. "She" this is so I can get it tattooed on my left wrist.
oh i felt this - i was around 10 or 11 (aka around 2015 or 2016) when i first heard she and oh wow did it hit me HARD. music is wild to me because i connect a lot of my personal emotions and experiences to what i listen to, and to an even higher degree when i find a song that accurately speaks to how i’m feeling in that moment. so listening to certain songs reminds me of the place i was emotionally at the time where i discovered that song... she is one of them. hearing she reminds me of where i was at that age, and how i was discovering myself and my own identity (including but also extending outside of sexuality). it hurts even more because i have old recordings of me singing she (and although they make me cringe because w o w i was off-key) it’s so painfully wholesome to see how far i’ve come. idk i just wanted to say that. also spoiler alert i thought i was pan bc i was like “yeah i feel equally attracted to all people idk i don’t really care” but GUESS WHAT i’m aroace and i was just very led astray bc im cupioromantic with a preference for girls so y e a h turns out i’m not technically wlw at all
my personal favorite dodie song is “if i’m being honest”, i think it’s one of her best and you should 100% listen to it. two of her newer songs are “boys like you” and “guiltless” which have a different vibe from her old stuff like “would you be so kind” and “absolutely smitten” which will leave you with a really happy feeling in your heart!! also “ready now” is a great song which is sorta another take on the situation that inspired sick of losing soulmates and is pretty happy. also “you” is such a slept on song even though it’s the title track of one of her eps and YOU should listen to it!! there’s a really fun song about a threesome called “in the middle” and some more sadder songs are “human”, “intertwined” (gah, i love her lyricism in this one), and “burned out”. here’s hoping you see this comment and react to all of these in the future bc i can totally see you loving them!!!! :)
*DODIE SONG RECS* -"Ready Now" HAPPY SONG ALERT this one is soft and wholesome I promise -"rainbow" (on her second channel doddlevloggle I believe) PRIDE SONG woohoo go gay (or bi in this case) -"Boys Like You" choreography is SICK -"Arms Unfolding" so soft and gentle and sweet UGH -"Intertwined" if you have time please listen to the song and THEN watch the video after trust me it's not what you'd expect -"In the Middle" A NON-SAD BOP -"Guiltless" tears my heart up and awesome video -"Not What I Meant" just bops, good harmonies, I prefer the studio version though tbh -"Burned Out" sad but haunting -"Absolutely Smitten" trying to add all of the NOT SAD ones I can think of -"Party Tattoos" is sweet and slaps -"If I'm Being Honest" watch the live session one of my favorite instances of her voice just gOIng OFF -HER GOD IS A WOMAN COVER IS ALL THAT MATTERS IN THIS LIFE -"When" get ready to sob -"Human" cool video, super awesome song -"Would You Be So Kind?" a bop for sure *edit because I just saw another one in the comments I forgot* - “Dear Happy” feat. Thomas Sanders god this one’s beautiful and means so much to me tbh dodie means so much to me her music has helped me get through some really hard times and I'm so glad you like and appreciate her she deserves more attention and you're pretty great
"It's so exhausting being me." "I choked on Chipotle rice today....worth it." Not even 30 secs in and I can already relate with this guy so much I wanna write a song about it😂
lexi bee thx also I have no idea what’s wrong with her shoulder, actually, I had no idea there was something wrong with her shoulder before you pointed it out
Would You Be So Kind is hardly a 'happy' song lyrically, but I love that the music tricks you into believing that at first mwahahah. The contrast between the incredibly frustrated lyrics and the upbeat music is so gooooood!
being a fan of dodie for 3 years, I've become kind of numb to how much these songs hurt the first time listening. like i vibe to she without even thinking about it. I think I appreciated watching someone discovering dodie more than I could dream of. it was like rediscovering her myself. I'm all of a sudden brought back to the first time I sobbed for an hour listening to "when" realizing I'm not alone. I just cried again listening to she. please do a part 2 for dodie. I think I need it for myself🖤🖤
'when' hits so hard for me because it shifted meaning for me. It came out when I was 15 so the line "I'll never be sixteen again'" made me look forward to the fun times id have at 16. When I was 16 it was a reminder to enjoy it while it lasts. Now I'm 18 and it reminds me to try not to dwell on the past. It's definitely my favorite Dodie song. Helped me through a lot 💚 she really is amazing
@@gwinnellheald8592 I've dealt with dissociation for a while. this means that I either look toward the future (always ask when) or look to the past (never be 16 again). it makes me feel like I'm mourning 16 when I'm actually 15 LMAO
I would 100% recommended “guiltless”, “burned out”, “when”, “arms unfolding”, “rainbow” and “if I’m being honest” all by dodie Tessa Violet: “words ain’t enough”, “wishful drinking”, “bored” and “make me a robot”
Okay so it’s not one of her official songs but she sang a song with Thomas Sanders called Dear Happy and, to this day, it is one of my favorite songs. It’s so sad but so hopeful. Anyway 10/10 would cry to it again
My personal experience with 6/10- I’ve been a fan of Dodie since 2015. Her songs always spoke to me and they got me through all of the difficult times in high school. Her description of anxiety and depression, what she was going through when she wrote 6/10, hit me so hard. When she first talked about it on youtube, she asked for fans to submit their own recordings of the lines: “Oh I’ll just call a taxi, I’ve gotta get up early tomorrow again” and “I know that you don’t want me here” I submitted my recordings, and forgot about it. Flash forward to my second year of college. I was living in my first apartment, struggling with severe depression, frequent panic attacks, anxiety disorders, and trying to maintain the perfect grades I’d gotten in high school so I wouldn’t let anyone down. STRESSED. I had pre-ordered Dodie’s new album and finally I got to play 6/10. And..... I heard myself, singing along with her, and tons of other voices. All people in pain, all people like me. Needless to say, I broke down a bit. That song means so much to me. I’m now a college graduate, and this past September I got to see Dodie in concert! I cried a lot, and when 6/10 started, the audience held up cards that read “10/10”. Lots of tears! I have that card on my wall now. ❤️
You should try to stan mxmtoon! Song suggestions: - cliche - feelings are fatal - prom dress (or seasonal depression) - fever dream (or lessons) - quiet motions - i feel like chet
If it makes you less sad dodie did stay friend with Sammy who she wrote Sick of Losing Soulmates about, in fact he directed the video. Also his tweet about it still makes me laugh 'Just a video I made with two of my exes for a song about me featuring my dad.' 😂
This came up in my recommended and I was just kinda like 'what do you mean *trying* to stan Dodie... literally everything about her is stan worthy' but then I actually watched it and realized it's a series
Fun little fact: The chorus of voices that repeat those two lines over and over at the end of 6/10 are actually all of her fans voices which just makes it even more special and impactful
‘She’ is the song I listened to leading up to when I finally came out of the closet, it’s a beautiful song and I still have it on my playlist because of how much it means to me
Orla Gartland! She is an Irish singer-songwriter with incredible lyrics and she's played guitar for Dodie on all her tours. She's cranked out a ton of demos in the past few years and 2 EPs Songs: Heavy I go crazy did it to myself inevitable overthinking
I’ve met dodie twice and she’s such a sweetheart honestly, I remember the first time me and some friends weren’t sure if we were supposed to queue (this was at a con) and we were looking over at her booth trying to figure it out and me and dodie made eye contact, she smiled and I looked away super nervous bc useless lesbian here but she came to the edge and asked if we needed help so we asked and she told us, then when we actually properly met her she remembered us and was just super sweet!! Dodie is such a great example of youtubers who make music rather than youtubers who make youtuber music you know what I mean? (Also I bought a shirt with a quote from She on it that first time we met & it’s still one of my faves like 4 or 5 years later) Edit: the backstreet boys reunion tour omg you’re a gg fan 😳😳 icon !!
this makes me so happy! (minus the useless part, don't say that about you please) also hell yeah thats a Grumps reference! I wore my Link name shirt and everything!
when he said “her voice is almost like a dream” like f’real tho i was listening to cavetown to sleep cuz his voice helps me sleep and spotify started playing the suggested track and i woke up to “if i’m being honest” and i was like “yo am i even awake”
Fun facts about the songs you listened to: -dodie gave the first sneak peak of Monster at one of her concerts and she explained to her audience how this was about that moment in an argument at the end of a relationship where you can literally start to see the person’s hate for you grow and you can see their perception of you completely change in their eyes. -I believe She was about her first experience falling in love with a girl and it was while she was a teen in school. -in 6/10, when the other people start harmonizing, those are actually her fans who she had submit their voices singing those lines over and over and she had them mixed with hers. -Secret for the Mad was written for a friend who reached out to her for help and was feeling very depressed and suicidal and dodie explains how she started thinking of all the stereotypes people tell you to try and calm yourself down from one of those episodes (open up a window, drink water, breathe in and out, etc.) and that’s where specifically the “little things, all the stereotypes, they’re gonna help you get through this one night” line comes from -Sick if Losing Soulmates was written about the struggles of remaining friends with someone after the relationship ends due to all the history there.
An artist I have to recommend is Orla Gartland (who was actually one of dodie’s guitarists) a few of her best songs are New Friends, Why am I like this, I Go Crazy, and Did it to Myself. Those are just a few to pick from but she has a bunch of other amazing songs that you should really check out. Edit: another song I just found that is amazing and that I can relate to is her song “grey”
You should try to stan mxmtoon, some songs are: No Faker Almost Home Feelings Are Fatal Birdie 1,2 Seasonal Depression High & Dry Lessons Please Don't Used to You Porcelain Blame Game (Acoustic) Stuck Hong Kong Fever Dream Quiet Motions Untitled Ted Talk Cliché Don't Play Your Card Dream of You Unspoken Words
TRYING TO STAN ORLA GARTLAND: She’s an amazing Irish singer, friends with Dodie and she has such an incredible voice. My favourite songs of hers would be Lifeline, Grey, Heavy, I Go Crazy and Between My Teeth. She also has amazing cover of Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac. Love her and Dodie so much it’s insane
When I first heard these songs as a young teenage girl they really did things to me and I wasn't ready for how truly special it felt to see a fully grown masculine man experience it the same way. This shows the magic of art, music and words as well as the talent Dodie has
Dodie has a book called “Secrets for the Mad: obsessions, confessions, and life lessons”. I bought it my freshman year right after it came out and honestly dodie Clark has such an impact on my life and her songs and her book have helped me through so much. 💕
@spr!nkles! bro I'm so proud of dodie. like the fact that someone doesn't know she has a book but likes her just warms my heart. you're going to enjoy it so much
spr!nkles! It’s a great book! I just looked through it after a while and it’s really wonderful. I have a few passages highlighted because its really something I needed to hear when I got it. She talks about sexuality, body image, mental health, basic life skills, and her life and journey as a musician. It also has pages of lyrics to different songs! Its so good. You’ll love it.
fun fact: the "i know that you dont want me here" part in 6/10 has recordings of 100s of her fans singing :'/ sometimes i swear i can hear myself hahaha but im just imagining it
more amazing Dodie songs: Guiltless Intertwined Human If I'm being honest Arms unfolding When Boys like you In the middle Ready now You She's my absolute favorite and thank you for shedding light on how incredible she is 🥰 also please do a part 2 ❤️
doddleoddle Oh my goodness I love you so much 💕💕💕 I came to your concert in Nashville and it was everything I could have ever expected. Thank you for making music and just existing 😂💕
also, I'm really happy you listened to dodie, specifically Sick Of Losing Soulmates, 6/10, and Secret for the mad. I've been listening to Dodie since I was in middle school and these were all songs that I listened to really frequently when I was upset or feeling depressed and scared. music has always just felt like proof that I'm able to get through whatever has been happening
If you want to listen to some more upbeat dodie songs: In The Middle I Have A Hole In My Tooth (And My Dentist Is Shut) Party Tattoos (and some more good songs that have sadder meanings: Human Intertwined Boys Like You)
I remember standing in the crowd of the Dodie concert I went to and just sobbing while my best friend held me when Secrets for the Mad came out, not because I was in the middle of it but because I knew I had finally gotten out, to where things were finally really making sense again. For so long i didn’t think I would make it to the point where I could say things made sense and where I wasn’t hurting every day, but in that moment I really felt that I had done it. And I looked around and everyone else was crying too because we had all made it. It was freeing and beautiful and one of the best nights of my life.
please do girl in red next!! she has a very indie-rock vibe, and all her songs have very interesting concepts. some of my favs are: - summer depression - bad idea - we fell in love in october - dead girl in the pool - i wanna be your girlfriend
Hey, just to let you know Dodie has in the last been very open about her struggle with metal illness, depression, anxiety, derealisation and depersonalization. As of late she has been in a much better head space and is doing very well. I saw her on tour and she was amazing, brilliant vocals.
GIRL IN RED!!! She is awsooooommme listen to; I wanna be your girlfriend, girls, we fell in love in october, and summer depression. I'm sure there are more, but these are my faves
Dodie's songs really helped me come to terms with my sexuality and my mental health, especially since I wasn't getting much support from my peers or family. Also, if you want fun Dodie songs, Would you be so kind, Absolutely Smitten, and In the middle are some really good ones.
I found Dodie when she did a song with Thomas Sanders called Dear Happy. It's a beautiful song and they both have lovely voices! I think you'd like Would You Be So Kind? since that's a song you missed. It's such a lovely song and the vibes her voice gives it is just wonderful.
ben platt: grow as we go, ease my mind, temporary love, and older (the music videos) troye sivan (2): blue neighbourhood trilogy music videos chloe moriondo: ghost adventure spirt orb, waves, maybe her hozier cover on youtube cuz you like him? the 1975: it's not living if it's not with you, sincerity is scary (a fun music vid), love it if we made it (quite heavy music vid)
I'd really recommend Orla Gartland (who btw is a friend of dodie's, that's how I discovered her). :) Recommended songs: Between My Teeth oh GOD Did It To Myself Figure It Out Why Am I Like This
dodie got me through some of the hardest shit in my life, and I was so happy that even though I don't know them personally, someone else understood and appreciated her like I do. thank you, bill.
I have seen dodie twice in concert and HONESTLY you saying she like held you felt like the concert. During "Secrets for the Mad" I was sobbing my eyes out and I was truly a wreck and girl in front of me who I never meet just hugged me for the whole song. I felt so loved then. Her music is so important to me, when I found it and even now. And songs have beautiful associations with them for me now, like "She" is me and my best friends song because of how important it is to us. I will never listen to that song and not think about her. Some upbeat songs are a lot of her first ep "Intertwined" and a song called "Ready Now" but I would recommend just all of her songs. I love her so much!!!
other songs i really love from dodie!!!: If I’m Being Honest Guiltless Boys Like You In The Middle Burned Out Human You Intertwined Party Tattoos When Cool Girl (demo) Bite Back (demo) she has way too many beautiful songs though, i adore all of them
You should do trying to stan Tessa Violet, she's a good friend of dodies and has done several videos with her... Songs: -Crush -Bad Ideas -Words Ain't Enough -Bored -Burn -Wishful Drinking
Bill: talking about how he hopes 6/10 is the happiest most uplifting song Me, who used to listen to this song very often and knowing the first line: oh dear...
when UA-cam recommended me this video i was completely preparing myself to watch some rude man tear apart Dodie's music. instead i found a new channel to subscribe to. it's so nice to watch someone actually analyze the meanings instead of immediately hating it because it's not a genre or sound they would normally listen to, or shit on it for talking about deep personal emotions and subjects. 💛
Fun fact: Dodie constructed a kind of contest where all her fans could record themselves harmonizing the bridge of 6/10 and she would include them in the version that you just heard. So, we are literally all singing with her. I remember the first time I heard it I felt like that was it: I was a part of something beautiful.
How about trying to stan Harry styles? Songs I recommend are sign of the times, Golden, falling, adore you, and medicine (which is a tour only song so you’d have to look up the audio on yt)!
i’ve been a fan of dodie for around 4 or 5 years, and she’s honestly life changing. i got to see her in concert last year and boyyyy did i have the time of my life :)
I’m so glad you discovered dodie ! her voice is so soft and beautiful, and her songs are so emotional ! you should do a part 2 with "intertwined", "you", "absolutely smitten", "in the middle", "human"
Instead of "make bill sad", let's start a trend "Make Bill All Warm and Fuzzy Inside" Please don't get me wrong, but i just want to see him have a good time more!
I've seen a few videos from this guy in my recommended, but I wasn't super into it, as I thought he might be negative. I thought I'd give it a try with this video and his "yes vibes" and the rest of his commentary are amazing! He genuinely is going into this with an open mind and is super kind about the music, at least as far as I've seen. I like this a lot, and I'm loving his reactions to Dodie.
Kismet Folly yes but also 'Light' and 'Hearing' and i think that if they're going to react to the planets or the enneagram numbers they should take into account their own personalized results. However 'Earth' is kind of a universal message about climate change and is very moving. I really hope this gets to them ✨
React to the 1975 Songs to cry to: she lays down, love it if we made it, nana, I always want to die, if I believe you Songs to bop to with great lyrics: give yourself a try, sex, robbers, loving someone, paris, it's not living
“She” really helped me get through a tough time. I realised I was Bi when I fell in love with my straight best friend and I didn’t want to loose her cause they were the best friend I ever had. It took be 6 years to get over her so I really resonated with this song
OH MY GOSHHHH THIS IS SO INTERESTING TO WATCH
IM ONLY IN THE FIRST BIT BUT I HAD TO COMMENT
WATCHING U BREAK AT SHE IS ENDING ME OMG
“This is worse than a date song” rip this is so fun
NOOOOO DONT CRY NOOOOOOOOO
Oh wow hi, I'm glad you saw this
oh my gosh watching you cry at secret for the mad is making me cry 😢 it was so amazing to watch you dissect it musically and you absolutely nailed it because I can see you just get it
“as long as these songs aren’t about stress ..”
me, a hardcore dodie fan since 2015: uh oh
aimee eve yeah same and he picked the WORST ONES (on the stress and anxiety aspects, they're all obviously gorgeous)
S A M E
aimee eve aldjdkdhdj me
that was my EXACT reaction ajchsk
HAHAHAHA literally my exact thoughts
Bill: *feeling the hurt to she*
Dodie stans: First time huh?

Honestly
If you listen to Dodie again, may I recommend:
- Guiltless
- Intertwined
- When
- You
- If I'm Being Honest
!!! Thank u !!!
Burned Out as well!
And ”in the middle”!
Another one is, would you be so kind
doddleoddle And Human
He should listen to “would you be so kind” or “absolutely smitten” for just a little of happy
Yeah!!! And Ready Now!
would you be so kind makes me cry every time im sorry
In the Middle.
Yes pleaseeeee
Zifa Tanner-Kamal oof I feel you
"Damn Dodie.." - every single Dodie stan after listening to her songs
“She” was the song I played on repeat for like 3 hours whilst crying cuz I was accepting the fact I was bisexual in that moment and I was very emotional
I HAD THIS EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE???
Omg, same, it's so inspiring and makes me think about my sexuality more
Just "yes"
WAIT SAME?!? Like ACTUALLY. Monsters was my comfort song after I was forced to come out and was bullied by my parents
(They sorta accept me now)
Bill: *hears /sees something gay*
AHH YES VIBES
I love him
"I hope these songs aren't stressful"
*Picks all of the heaviest, deepest songs*
All of us Dodie stans in the comments, "Welcome. Join us."
"She" was the first dodie song I'd ever heard, it exemplified the feelings of being a queer girl and having feelings for a straight girl.
Same, that song literally spoke to me and I just remember searching for this girl who sang it. Now I love dodie so much.
absolutely, its also been a song I've listened to a lot recently as I've struggled with feelings for a close friend of mine, and whether or not i should say something in fear of losing her as even though she likes women she's never shown any sign of feeling that way towards me. (sorry for the vent, but I feel this is a place she wouldn't see it and people who may understand or be in similar situations will)
It was the first song I ever heard as well and it really spoke to me
I love how when he’s listening to “she” he just goes “oh... OH” when he realizes what she’s talking about...
yes vibes!
yes vibes!
Yes vibes 2x
It’s not a “trying to stan” it’s just , “Bill instantly stanning everyone “
Yeah, this guy doesn't really have any standards, he just loves everything...
I'm almost jealous tbh, I wish I could just like everything I hear
“It almost feels like a dream” IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE DODIE’S VOICE IT IS ALWAYS SO ACCURATE
this feels especially accurate considering how she's talked about her experience of derealisation in a similar way
Louise Diment OMG
That's hilarious because she dissociates. (I'm not making fun of her. I dissociate too.)
@@bubblebathskies i just said that too. Haha.
“That was so heartbreaking...but so lovely too” is a good description of a large chunk of dodie’s songs
She was the first wlw artist I came across too and her music and thoughts really changed my view of the world and has opened me up to so much :)
saaame she was the first person i had ever seen that was bi!!
Same. She helped me realize that its its ok for me to be queer and start accepting myself. I used to play it when I was alone and sob
oh i felt this - i was around 10 or 11 (aka around 2015 or 2016) when i first heard she and oh wow did it hit me HARD.
music is wild to me because i connect a lot of my personal emotions and experiences to what i listen to, and to an even higher degree when i find a song that accurately speaks to how i’m feeling in that moment. so listening to certain songs reminds me of the place i was emotionally at the time where i discovered that song... she is one of them.
hearing she reminds me of where i was at that age, and how i was discovering myself and my own identity (including but also extending outside of sexuality).
it hurts even more because i have old recordings of me singing she (and although they make me cringe because w o w i was off-key) it’s so painfully wholesome to see how far i’ve come.
idk i just wanted to say that.
also spoiler alert i thought i was pan bc i was like “yeah i feel equally attracted to all people idk i don’t really care” but GUESS WHAT i’m aroace and i was just very led astray bc im cupioromantic with a preference for girls so y e a h turns out i’m not technically wlw at all
lmao tl;dr she (song lol) had a huge impact on me
Dodie's voice is literally just a dreamy wonderland coated in just the right amount of honey 💕
Congrats, you made me hungry xD
my personal favorite dodie song is “if i’m being honest”, i think it’s one of her best and you should 100% listen to it. two of her newer songs are “boys like you” and “guiltless” which have a different vibe from her old stuff like “would you be so kind” and “absolutely smitten” which will leave you with a really happy feeling in your heart!! also “ready now” is a great song which is sorta another take on the situation that inspired sick of losing soulmates and is pretty happy. also “you” is such a slept on song even though it’s the title track of one of her eps and YOU should listen to it!! there’s a really fun song about a threesome called “in the middle” and some more sadder songs are “human”, “intertwined” (gah, i love her lyricism in this one), and “burned out”. here’s hoping you see this comment and react to all of these in the future bc i can totally see you loving them!!!! :)
Yesss a 100% second this
yesss!!! please do react to them!
YES to everything in this comment 👏
Yes yes yes! And the live version of If I'm Being Honest is so amazing, I get chills every time.
one of my fav songs is “She” bc of my gay ass...... he should react to more especially these songs
Could anyone legit cry over the idea of a Dodie x Hozier collab?
that will render me bedridden
Yes! I would die!!!
That would be too OP
I do not think that there is anyone in the world who wouldn’t benefit from that. We all need this.
Or Dodie & Cavetown maybe
If 6/10 were a date, it would be the 6th of October, because she’s English.
Even tho it’s not, I laughed cause that’s my birthday😂
@@kendallsonfire7924 mine too :)

Me hearing he's about to listen to 6/10: You gonna get effed up my bro
Bill: Trying to stan Dodie
Bill: Cries
Me: Cries in noooo Bill don't cry
This is so accurate😂😂
"It's so exhausting being me."
"I choked on Chipotle rice today....worth it."
Not even 30 secs in and I can already relate with this guy so much I wanna write a song about it😂
If you wrote this song I would listen to it
then write one! I wanted to run one on the middle of the video, and so I did. just came back >
TRYING TO STAN DODIE!
that’s not even a challenge
marceline i love your name! also what was wrong with her shoulder (I’m dumb)
lexi bee thx also I have no idea what’s wrong with her shoulder, actually, I had no idea there was something wrong with her shoulder before you pointed it out
marceline he points it out in the video and then gets it like a couple mins later but doesn’t say what it means
lexi bee oh in 6/10? I thought you meant my profile picture lmao
lexi bee but I’m pretty sure that I read somewhere that it’s an anxiety coping mechanism, I could be wrong tho
A couple of happy Dodie songs:
In the Middle
Absolutely Smitten
Would You Be So Kind
Party Tattoos
Far Away
Omg I went to a dodie concert last year way before corona. She opened "In The Middle" with "and now, a song about a threesome"
I fell in LOVE with In the Middle
Would You Be So Kind is hardly a 'happy' song lyrically, but I love that the music tricks you into believing that at first mwahahah. The contrast between the incredibly frustrated lyrics and the upbeat music is so gooooood!
@@maggie7125 she did that when i saw her too! but I was with my kid sister so oof.
In the middle is sUch a bop
OMG DODIE CLARK THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
You really managed to choose all of dodie's saddest songs 😭😭
Oh nah those aren’t even the close
Burned out had me crying for three hours, and Guiltless too. This isn't the worst
i think almost all of her songs are sad though 🥺🥺
being a fan of dodie for 3 years, I've become kind of numb to how much these songs hurt the first time listening. like i vibe to she without even thinking about it.
THIS
@@gwinnellheald8592 I've dealt with dissociation for a while. this means that I either look toward the future (always ask when) or look to the past (never be 16 again). it makes me feel like I'm mourning 16 when I'm actually 15 LMAO
yes absolutely. i relate to this so so so much.
Same!
I would 100% recommended “guiltless”, “burned out”, “when”, “arms unfolding”, “rainbow” and “if I’m being honest” all by dodie
Tessa Violet: “words ain’t enough”, “wishful drinking”, “bored” and “make me a robot”
Taste! Bored, make me a robot and burned out are so applicable to quarantine
i love the dodie cover of make me a robot
Wishfull drinking is soooo good!
Dodie suggestions
Something old: Pas De Deux
Something new: Boys like you
Something happy: Absolutely Smitten
My personal favorite: Arms Unfolding
YES! i LOVE arms unfoldingggg!!!
SAME arms unfolding ahhhhh
something sad: burned out
What blows my mind is Dodie says pas de deux is one of her least favourite songs she's ever written. I love that song soooo muchhhh
the entire time he was analyzing she i really wanted to scream ITS ABOUT FALLING FOR A STRAIGHT GIRL
Dodie songs:
"Guiltless"!!!
"Human"
"Boys like you"
"Party tattoos"
"Burned out"
YES!!!!
Party tattoos and burned out stayed on my everyday playlist for like two months straight....I forgot ab them 😢
he’s gonna freak at burned out and guiltless
I'd also say when !! Its underrated honestly, I love it so much
Yeah, i can't believe boys like you wasn't included....
Okay so it’s not one of her official songs but she sang a song with Thomas Sanders called Dear Happy and, to this day, it is one of my favorite songs. It’s so sad but so hopeful. Anyway 10/10 would cry to it again
My personal experience with 6/10-
I’ve been a fan of Dodie since 2015. Her songs always spoke to me and they got me through all of the difficult times in high school. Her description of anxiety and depression, what she was going through when she wrote 6/10, hit me so hard.
When she first talked about it on youtube, she asked for fans to submit their own recordings of the lines:
“Oh I’ll just call a taxi, I’ve gotta get up early tomorrow again” and “I know that you don’t want me here”
I submitted my recordings, and forgot about it.
I still have my card too
I have mine as well ♥️
other dodie songs:
- when
- guiltless
- boys like you
- in the middle
- you

If you want fun, "In the Middle" is straight up FUN
its a little too much fun if he wants to stay monetised 😳😳
‘She’ is the song I listened to leading up to when I finally came out of the closet, it’s a beautiful song and I still have it on my playlist because of how much it means to me
It really Is beautiful the song has made me cry before it's wow
I listen to it whenever I'm feeling down, to make me feel even more sad xD
Same with me!! I love it
guess you could say that "she" means everything to me ;)
Ive never seen someone properly articulate what it’s like to listen to a Dodie song before
Orla Gartland! She is an Irish singer-songwriter with incredible lyrics and she's played guitar for Dodie on all her tours. She's cranked out a ton of demos in the past few years and 2 EPs
Songs:
Heavy
I go crazy
did it to myself
inevitable
overthinking
Fking love her
Flatline and Oh God also stand out to me.
YES, i love new friends too, it's heartbreakingly beautiful
Yes! I Go Crazy and Did it to Myself are such amazing songs!
Why am I like this and Inevitable make me sob
I’ve met dodie twice and she’s such a sweetheart honestly, I remember the first time me and some friends weren’t sure if we were supposed to queue (this was at a con) and we were looking over at her booth trying to figure it out and me and dodie made eye contact, she smiled and I looked away super nervous bc useless lesbian here but she came to the edge and asked if we needed help so we asked and she told us, then when we actually properly met her she remembered us and was just super sweet!! Dodie is such a great example of youtubers who make music rather than youtubers who make youtuber music you know what I mean? (Also I bought a shirt with a quote from She on it that first time we met & it’s still one of my faves like 4 or 5 years later)
Edit: the backstreet boys reunion tour omg you’re a gg fan 😳😳 icon !!
this makes me so happy! (minus the useless part, don't say that about you please) also hell yeah thats a Grumps reference! I wore my Link name shirt and everything!
@@thethirdbill I also caught the game grumps reference, love it!
when he said “her voice is almost like a dream” like f’real tho i was listening to cavetown to sleep cuz his voice helps me sleep and spotify started playing the suggested track and i woke up to “if i’m being honest” and i was like “yo am i even awake”
this made me cackle aha
Falling asleep to cavetown hits so different man
Fun facts about the songs you listened to:
-dodie gave the first sneak peak of Monster at one of her concerts and she explained to her audience how this was about that moment in an argument at the end of a relationship where you can literally start to see the person’s hate for you grow and you can see their perception of you completely change in their eyes.
-I believe She was about her first experience falling in love with a girl and it was while she was a teen in school.
-in 6/10, when the other people start harmonizing, those are actually her fans who she had submit their voices singing those lines over and over and she had them mixed with hers.
-Secret for the Mad was written for a friend who reached out to her for help and was feeling very depressed and suicidal and dodie explains how she started thinking of all the stereotypes people tell you to try and calm yourself down from one of those episodes (open up a window, drink water, breathe in and out, etc.) and that’s where specifically the “little things, all the stereotypes, they’re gonna help you get through this one night” line comes from
-Sick if Losing Soulmates was written about the struggles of remaining friends with someone after the relationship ends due to all the history there.
Edit: another song I just found that is amazing and that I can relate to is her song “grey”
and Heavy, that song makes me feel heavy which means she’s good lol
between my teeth has to be my fav it’s soo good

She is such a relatable song for me. Growing up bisexual I constantly had crushes on girls I knew would never like me in that way.
Not sad dodie songs for the next part:
Whould you be so kind
Bisexual coming out song
Sad but so worth it song: rain (her first video and first song(
Would you be so kind can be very sad if you listen to it in an unrequited love way
a hole in my tooth is funny lol. then there's the thomas sanders song (birds? maybe i don't remember)

Yes I love Orla!!! Did It To Myself is also a really good one
YESSSS I LOVE ORLA

and bad idea and watch you sleep!

please do a part 2 with her newer stuff like 'boys like you'
'in the middle'
'if I'm being honest'
'guiltless'
When I first heard these songs as a young teenage girl they really did things to me and I wasn't ready for how truly special it felt to see a fully grown masculine man experience it the same way. This shows the magic of art, music and words as well as the talent Dodie has
"Well as long as these songs don't contain stress or constipation"
Constipation of the feelings, if you will
Dodie has a book called “Secrets for the Mad: obsessions, confessions, and life lessons”.
Megan Shumway the audio book is also great! it’s read by dodie and she sings the songs in between chapters!
plasydity omgggg wait where do I find the audiobook???? Ahhh!!!
all the dodie stans watching someone listen to dodie for the first time:
yep take it all in
fun fact: the "i know that you dont want me here" part in 6/10 has recordings of 100s of her fans singing :'/
sometimes i swear i can hear myself hahaha but im just imagining it
You're more than good enough Lucy
@@mothermoth39 awh that's so sweet

doddleoddle Oh my goodness I love you so much 💕💕💕 I came to your concert in Nashville and it was everything I could have ever expected.
I am so bloody happy for your discovery, my guy! Love this series idea!
“As long as these songs aren’t about stress-”
Ahaha, funny joke
If you want to listen to some more upbeat dodie songs:

(and some more good songs that have sadder meanings:
Human
Intertwined
Boys Like You)
THANK U FOR SHARING
Is this the real doddleoddle?!
Holy guacamole
Party tattoos is my favorite by her 🥰
I remember standing in the crowd of the Dodie concert I went to and just sobbing while my best friend held me when Secrets for the Mad came out, not because I was in the middle of it but because I knew I had finally gotten out, to where things were finally really making sense again. For so long i didn’t think I would make it to the point where I could say things made sense and where I wasn’t hurting every day, but in that moment I really felt that I had done it. And I looked around and everyone else was crying too because we had all made it. It was freeing and beautiful and one of the best nights of my life.
more dodie songs: human, rainbow, burnt out, in the middle

Hey, just to let you know Dodie has in the last been very open about her struggle with metal illness, depression, anxiety, derealisation and depersonalization.
As of late she has been in a much better head space and is doing very well. I saw her on tour and she was amazing, brilliant vocals.
:')
GIRL IN RED!!! She is awsooooommme listen to; I wanna be your girlfriend, girls, we fell in love in october, and summer depression. I'm sure there are more, but these are my faves
I second this!
I'd be so happy if he reacted to girl in red!
Dead Girl in the pool is also a banger
yes please lmao
@@louscarrots7510 eh not my favorite of hers but everything of hers is either a banger, or e x t r a gay

Dear Happy will never not make me cry🥺
I found her through dear happy as well!! I would give anything for that to be on Spotify 😭
residentanchor I found her through their other cover, Birds!! I’d love for him to react to Thomas Sanders! They’re both so amazing!
“New” that’s so weird I’ve been watching her for so long I can’t believe they are calling her “new”
ben platt: grow as we go, ease my mind, temporary love, and older (the music videos)
troye sivan (2): blue neighbourhood trilogy music videos
chloe moriondo: ghost adventure spirt orb, waves, maybe her hozier cover on youtube cuz you like him?
the 1975: it's not living if it's not with you, sincerity is scary (a fun music vid), love it if we made it (quite heavy music vid)
Oh for Ben Platt if you wanna cry listen to his newest song...
ugh Ben Platt is literally my favourite! The grow as we go music video literally makes me cry every single time
omg yes Ben Platt!! I love him :(
Yes do Ben platt!
chloe's kindergarten is pretty great too!

dodie got me through some of the hardest shit in my life, and I was so happy that even though I don't know them personally, someone else understood and appreciated her like I do. thank you, bill.
I love her so much!!!
other songs i really love from dodie!!!:
If I’m Being Honest
Guiltless

Burned out

when UA-cam recommended me this video i was completely preparing myself to watch some rude man tear apart Dodie's music. instead i found a new channel to subscribe to. it's so nice to watch someone actually analyze the meanings instead of immediately hating it because it's not a genre or sound they would normally listen to, or shit on it for talking about deep personal emotions and subjects.
Songs I recommend are sign of the times, Golden, falling, adore you, and medicine (which is a tour only song so you’d have to look up the audio on yt)!
also kiwi!!!!
i’ve been a fan of dodie for around 4 or 5 years, and she’s honestly life changing. i got to see her in concert last year and boyyyy did i have the time of my life :)
“your voice is so lovely that was so upsetting” dodie’s music in a nutshell lol
I’m so glad you discovered dodie ! her voice is so soft and beautiful, and her songs are so emotional ! you should do a part 2 with "intertwined", "you", "absolutely smitten", "in the middle", "human"
"It's exhausting being me~"
what a mood, wow..
Instead of "make bill sad", let's start a trend "Make Bill All Warm and Fuzzy Inside"
Please don't get me wrong, but i just want to see him have a good time more!
Yes plsss

Yeah, I love girl in red, she's awesome
I've seen a few videos from this guy in my recommended, but I wasn't super into it, as I thought he might be negative. I thought I'd give it a try with this video and his "yes vibes" and the rest of his commentary are amazing! He genuinely is going into this with an open mind and is super kind about the music, at least as far as I've seen. I like this a lot, and I'm loving his reactions to Dodie.
i cannot recommend Sleeping at Last enough, here's some amazing songs

you could do a whole series about dodie’s songs cause they’re all so profound and meaningful ;;
