The great irony for me is that I usually fly my registered DJI Mini 3 Pro over the Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach SC, exactly in front of the place where the USAF shot down the mysterious Chinese balloon. (The explosion shook my house.) Our authorities didn't seem to mind the balloon flying over our entire country. Why do they mind me flying my tiny DJI over my hometown? I will gladly buy an American made drone as soon as an American company can deliver the same quality and price as my DJI.
Land of the free willing to buy their consumables from the land of the oppressed.... China. Last I looked Sydio was a better product that DJI (say 5-6 years ago was it launched??) If you supported Skydio then (and I have no reason to be saying this other than how to get the best product in the marketplace for the best price, not in comparison to slave labor manufacturing) they would have been able to afford to spend more on R&D and may have a lot better products in the marketplace.
Chinese built electronics that have a camera and network capability should be banned? So every laptop, cellphone, and home security system? Of course not, and that show why this action has nothing to do with what it claims.
If things become too hard and difficult for authorised drone producers, you may begin to find some backyard operators may start to make "illigitimate drones" that have no geofencing, no serial numbers, no nothing to identify them, and then the authorities may realise they have a problem. Always will be a black market if things become too hard trying to do it the correct way.
ANYthing they try to do to lock it down will always eventually be hacked or bypassed. SOmeone will always find a way to do it. There are a lot of very clever and knowledgable people out there. I Don't care what kind of UAV itis or how they try to lock it down to prevent its use. Someone will always find a way to make the rotors spin, make it take off and keep it under control. I
It’s all part of the economic war against China, they did the same thing and eliminated Huawei from the smartphone space. I think the idea is that Chinese companies aren’t allowed to be number 1 in any field, which is sad for us consumers as competition pushes all companies to innovate.
The US government is not worried about China monitoring American citizens, but rather about American citizens monitoring their own government. DJI+TIKTOK has opened a new era around personal creation.

whenever I hear anything about legislation (not just drone related): 1. What rights are they taking away 2. Who actually benefits 3. How broad are they wording it so it can be later abused
It was effectively the CDA that got S336 revoked and removed the protection that the hobby had from FAA regulation. They are *not* hobby friendly and have effectively voiced the opinion that there is no room for the hobby in the skies of the future. Thanks for speaking up!
Sounds like a business opportunity; Updating DJI drones to fly independently! I knew this would be attempted when they started talking about commercial use of drones. The money hungry A holes don't care a bit about the freedoms of the American citizens!
As I said right from the time the final rule was published, network RID is the goal and marginalizing the hobby out of existance is the end-game. Please continue to highlight the peril that that faces our freedoms if we don't do something *effective* to push back against this ridiculous and disingenuous regulatory overreach.
Network RID would be bad especially the way our country is run right now. They should only have TCAS like system like they do on planes. TCAS is Traffic Collision Avoidance System. Or just make the delivery drones fly higher than recreational drones. Like at 450-500ft.
@@gbkiller007 Actually the FAA has all but given up on the "safety" BS. Even they have to concede that after more than a decade of multirotor use by recreational pilots there have been zero deaths and no significant instances of property damage. That justification for the over-regulation we're seeing has just worn too thin, even for them. So now the justification is "security".
Many people don’t even have an idea of how innovative the DJI Ag products are and growing. Farmers are more and more depending on land mapping, management, spraying and even seeding, all with the commercial zag, DJI drones. If some are unfamiliar, do a UA-cam search and see elimination of these and question why would you interfere with this amazing innovation for producing food, jobs, and technology. Please explore. Thanks Russ. Gus from Wisconsin,
there's a meme in China nowadays, that the more you get sanctioned by the US the more technologically advanced and innovative you are, some even consider it a badge of honor being on the sanction list among those thousands of sanctioned companies and entities list having Huawei at the top, DJI ranked at 9th
I have always turned to DJI for their build quality but the one issue with them as Chinese which gives them a bad rap. Until Autel or some American company can compete with them, I’ll continue to use DJI
The US won’t allow a Chinese drone manufacturer to set up shop here. Neither political party would allow it because of politics. It’s ridiculous because the movie industry uses these drones all the time. How would it look if every other country uses the best drones and we don’t?
Agree totally. We know it benefits people in hard to reach places, having medical supplies etc flown out to them, but I don’t like the idea of a pizza or an Amazon delivery arriving by drone, it’s unnecessary and another step closer to making us all live in 15 minute cities without any free movement or choice.
@@simonelliott5956 Judging by your comment you don't know what a 15-minute city is. It's not a prison as you make it sound. Rather, it's actually the freedom to accomplish anything you want within a 15 minute (3 mile) walk. What's wrong with that? Try being a disabled veteran like me who lives in a rural area 10 miles from the nearest civilization, and I get sanctioned by everyone from Walmart to Uber to Lyft to Doordash because of it. "Waaa! You're too far away!!! We have to deliver 6.7 miles to you, that requires us to charge you $8 extra!!!" That right there is communism.
@@Destin65 When we’re all pushed into living in 15 minute cities and our rural homes have compulsory purchase orders on them to force us to move to one, unless of course we’re farmers. When we have to get credits from the government to allow us freedom of movement to see our family or have a holiday, then come back to me and tell me it’s a good idea. The truth is, most cities are close to being 15 minute as it is, from a practicality point of view, but the moment that restricts freedom of movement, then it’s game over for quality of life.
Oddly enough dji is one of the only drone manufacturers that builds hardware and software that helps not only locate the operator but provide operator information and take over the drone itself. You would figure the government would love this.
I mean, yeah, they would love it-- if it wasn't in the hands of the Chinese Government lol. It's not so much the Drones themselves... It's that China can access the data. I dunno. Tired of the misrepresentation of the issue itself. China doesn't give a damn, they're trying to destroy the Western world. Stop helping them do it? I dunno. Build your own drone? It's not hard? There are kits and instructions online that don't require you to assist a communist government that engages in slavery and human rights abuses? But hey, whatever-- you can save a few bucks so to hell with the free world lmao.

@@BS-vm5bt I sincerely hope not, but they did get funny with Huawei and remove it from 5G installations, although in that case far more mission critical parts.
I’m in the uk and there is literally zero hint of anything like that happening here. Personally think the USA are on their own when it comes to China so they can crack on. The rest of us in can take a common sense approach. The reason imo US is so against china companies has little to do with national security and more to do with the economy and money.
Why are we allowing our government to take so much control? We as Americans have been slowly allowing these officials to fill their pockets while telling us how to live
Literally, was talking to my wife about this since I'm about to take my Part 107. It's really sad how many cowards exist within our government. Rather than do the work to get better, they'd rather just ban the best. If we're going to point fingers and talk about foreign espionage, then how about we start doing the same with domestic espionage?
You mean domestic espionage by chinese military and commercial interests presumably. Because there is a TON of that, thanks to our chinese bribed president Joe Biden crime family.
@@rfknapik Certainly all companies want to stop competition, but I think your opinion does not take into account the fact that China is not our friend, nor does it take into account that the next war(s) will be fought using low cost drones to do surveillance and to deliver munitions to the enemy vehicles and buildings. Drones are the future of war, and America better spend some time developing these kinds of delivery vehicles. We need our defense companies spending time researching low cost delivery drones with high levels of capability for the defense of America in the future, and the future has arrived in Ukraine.
Former Fed Gov here - and a heavy DJI drone user. I will say one thing - anyone who dismisses this outright as “bs” is probably very ignorant of how information collection, surveillance, etc. works worldwide, from every country. DJI could refute this, but doesn’t (IMO) because they’re indeed guilty of it. Heck - if this was a US company, you can bet they’d get subpoenaed for video evidence, using telemetry and user data, in the same way that the UK uses their own country’s CCTV network. You can bet that it happens. And we should assume as much until/unless proven otherwise. DJI has already demonstrated that they have no qualms openly lying to the public when it’s in their best interests. If they lie over such small things, what motivation do they have for telling the truth here? When it would (not could) shut them down?
I love my drones. In fact, as a disabled US veteran who was pretty much a hermit in my neighborhood, drones have provided literally the only thing to get me out of the house and involved in a hobby of aerial photography and re-introduced still photography. I have introduced thousands into my private drones and watched as new legislation’s were limiting more and more of my operations. It seems rather than introducing an all out band that would create a political nightmare. They are taking steps that would take the stance of ‘death by 1000 cuts’ ideology. For those of us that have invested so much, I don’t see how this is anything but a legislation to monopolize what will eventually be hey single company backed by these politicians. This is nothing more than politicians playing the long end game. They don’t see small individuals trying to use a hobby. What they see is the complete control of a yet to be fleet in the future.
I like how instead of passing laws on the protection of consumer data like the GDRP they decide to just do bans that won’t be effective. They can dictate where consumer data goes with these laws and what it can be used for. But this isn’t about national security or consumer protection. This is about profits of American companies first and foremost.
Well said. And it's not just the US afflicted with a centralisation of too-powerful drone industry players, with a vested interest in steering things for their company's financial benefit. It's rife in Australia as well. Join the largest organisation, get onto a working group, be invited onto a national advisory policy group - nek minnit, the company they work for has won a lucrative government grant for some pie in the sky drone-related stuff. Nobody is calling it out - because all those who recognise that this is happening, are playing the same game. Their version of 'mutual back scratching' is 'mutual turning of a blind eye'.
Excellent commentary Russ. Always question why more legislation and restrictions are required. Self interest is always the primary motivation. Keep up the good work.
💯 agree with Analysis , dirty trick in trying to stop DJIs Monolopy which was earned over the last 10-15 years. They ship more in a month than all its competitors combined in a year .
I bought the DJI Air 2S back in July 2021. My first drone. The thing was phenomenal. Had it til Oct 2022 and had not a single issue with it. Had over 90 flights and decided to sell it to a guy that says he uses it for rescue missions in Arizona. I'm glad I sold it to him. I did register it but I never got the part 107 license. I did use that drone for some of my youtube videos but decided it wasn't worth it to me anymore which is why I sold it. Hearing this news is sad and it makes me wonder that if it passes what will happen to all those people who still have their drone and fly them including those who use them for rescue missions? But hopefully they don't ban them. DJI does make awesome products. I have the DJI action 3 camera and DJI mic and love those products.
A ban will infringe on a lot people’s livelihood. I mean just require a license. I mean we all have a 🪪 to operate a vehicle right? I don’t get all the political fuss over this.
Thank you Russ - Having just returned from 2 month droning trip in China, ironically I was provided with what can only de described as courteous and welcoming attitudes - Drones save many live's in China, fire rescue, cable car rescue, mountain search,,,,,, etc etc,,,, and are seen in a very different light that here in the west. Our world is crazy right now
Thank you, Russ but everyone needs to be respectfully writing, emailing and calling their elected representatives. If you rely on these drones or just enjoy flying these amazing machines, don’t wait for “someone” to do something.
I can't find the video at the moment, but Skydio were called out for being behind proposed legislation put forward in a state's congress (i.e. ban foreign drone manufacturers' products). The committee chairman verbally shut down the legislation proposer and excoriated him for acting in Skydio's interests. So at least that attempt was publicly discredited.
That would make sense.I have always thought that some company or organisation is behind trying to get this legislation through. They want to take Dji’s market.
Always has been, always will be. You shouldn't need a certification to get aerial photos and a short real estate video when you're flying it maybe 80 feet in the air. It's all about revenue, control and the constant busting balls!
I'm working my way toward getting a DJI drone, and hearing stuff like this really annoys me. Why do these wealthy companies always ignore ordinary citizens' wants and needs? All in the name of making more money, when they make an insane amount already.
Network based remote ID? They would have to expand the network to remote areas. Also, would the drone work if you travelled to a country that doesn't have drone laws?
They are worried about drones! REALLY! What about all the cell phones listening to everything. With cameras on these phones. Also giving permissions for apps to access them.
Absolutely awesome information as always Russ. Your depth of knowledge on the drone industry and what’s happening never fails to impress. Keep up the great work! 👍😎 here’s to hoping they don’t get banned, I love DJI and my air2S
Thank you for trying to let the people know the truth, hopefully they actually hear and see the big picture that aware basic rights is being stripped away without we even seeing it
Far as information collecting, DJI been pretty open about what information they collect and far as the 'risk' it's primarily just communication between the remote and the drone. They're not Huawei, and if they were serious about going at them because of China they would have to ban off everything else that would be Chinese based... which is pretty much everything.
Russ thank you for the video. The talk of commercial drones doing deliveries (like Amazon, etc.) has been going on for a few years. Even with all the improvements in technologies for commercial drones they are still a long ways away from reality. The logistics of commercial drone delivery is mind boggling. And if you look at say "Wing" they are very limited in what they can do - weight, run time, delivery method, etc. The potential liability and risk is very high. All this to say that true commercial drone service is a lot longer way than most people think. What we are seeing is something similar to when Toyota and Honda were trying to make an in road in to the USA There was talk back in the day about high taxes, tariffs, etc. Instead Honda, Toyota and a host of others opened plants here in the USA employing Americans and proudly state they are made in the USA. A win for everybody. DJI would be most wise to follow in their footsteps.
Russ, you are a terrific UA-camr! You are up to date on what is happening in the world of Drones. Your Drone flying videos and tips are always awesome. Your presentation skills are excellent, informative and interesting. I throughly enjoy your videos. Being Canadian, our laws may differ from you folks in the USA, however our country often follows your country in establishing laws and policies. Sadly, China is a hotbed of Government Interference in our country and yours along with many other countries. We just want to peacefully fly our DJI Drones.
Our lawmakers are not against DJI just because they are not manufactured here. They are against the company simply because they are a successful Chinese company that we can't compete with. Our goverment have been sactioning their companies for this reason only and claiming national security.
The Chinese already have hi res imagery of anywhere they are interested in, and likely have for decades. If the drones were phoning home with this imagery, it would use huge amounts of bandwidth and be easily detected.
I am a cyber security consultant, trained by the US Government for military cyber security. I work in the commercial sector now. I started working strictly cyber security in 2004. Three times the company I work for has evaluated DJI drones, looking at procedures to fly the drone securely so that nobody can steal the product (primarily images and video), to ensure that the drone cannot be hijacked by an external party, and to validate the firmware of a drone itself. The Federal government actually has websites that list DJI drones as an approved product. Every time someone talks about the cyber security of drones, your first question should be: "What kind of information are you concerned about, and what is the risk to (your business or operations) should that information be lost or manipulated?". Normally, the concerned person has not actually evaluated the risk of using the drone or the confidentiality of the data that they worry about using. For instance, I can fly a private airplane over the area you are photographing, and photograph it myself, without you knowing or my breaking any ordinances. So isn't that data 'publicly available'? If anybody would like to discuss cyber security concerns with drones, you can find me on UA-cam or LinkedIn.
I really wish more people would see this video, even those who don't have fly drones, so they would understand how modern government actually works. We live in scary times where so many people just can't seem to think critically or are easily influenced based on social media or what sounds good on paper. They should always be asking the questions you mentioned when they hear new legislation being proposed. Skepticism is your friend in these situations.
Thank you for the background on this. I've been on the same side of a different issue regarding net metering on our solar power system. It's really hard to fight against the big money that selfish corporations use against us. The big corporations get great access to the politicians who often won't even schedule a 5 minute meeting with the little guy who voted for him.
Trust the government ......... now that's a laughable thought! I was wondering, is it possible to fly the drone without cellular conductivity? I guess I'll have to give it a try.
You do not need any network connectivity to fly most commercial drones. The aircraft talks to the controller via a proprietary protocol (Ocusync in DJI's case) and has GPS capabilities onboard. There is no need to connect to a cellular network.
Russ always appreciate your thoughtfully balanced delivery of the sometimes controversial aspects of Drones and laws pertaining to this technology. In this “Toxic” political environment, you alway keep a balanced perspective, even when discussing laws, lawmakers, and even commercial interests in theses matters. No shouting, no gotcha sound bites, just great thoughtful information. My favorite source for Information, Keep up the great work!!!!
DJI requires you to login to your account every 30 days using your remote.. They say this is for safety and to update the flysafe app. But they do download your flight logs every time you login. So can you blame the US government for banning the use of them? They don't want DJI having access to that data. IF the Drone didn't require you to login every mouth and worked with out needing you to do this. Then may be it wouldn't be getting banned.. The ONLY reason to force you to do this is to mine your data
That won’t happen because Government is in the pocket of the corporations. The 🇺🇸American people need to stop being lazy and actually fight back for once.
Thanks for the breakdown, Russ! I look at the massive amount of DJI users (commercial, consumer and government agencies) and a ban without viable replacement would cause a huge damage. How many *DOMESTIC* retailers, that depend on the income generated by selling DJI product would survive such a hit? Also of concern are your *sunburned* forearms! Holy crap! Feel better soon!
If there was a US manufacturer of drones with the same quality and functionality, I'd absolutely support it. DJI really it just the best, especially for the price.
Thank you for spreading the word. Would you please consider making another video that gives us some suggestions on what we as consumers can do? I question whether writing my congressman is of much use, but I'm willing to try. However, since my congressman isn't voting on this bill yet, who should I reach out to? The concept that these drones are a national security risk is absolutely absurd. There are so many better and more direct ways to spy on us if that is the end goal.
Create an email blast (using your bcc) to every politician, regulator and bureaucrat. Look up their contact info online and create the list and share it.
Thank you for videos like this. They are very much appreciated and you are totally right about corporations ultimately making the decisions for the rest of us. I have long wondered myself how long drones would really last for us consumers and not surprised if it isn't forever, as sad as it is. Anyway thanks again because I don't know where we would see news like this otherwise. You're the only drone related channel I follow closely.
The FAA should first and foremost make sure that airliner manufacturers produce faultless aircraft! One has to wonder how the latest Boeing fiascoS were allowed to happen!
If they want to stop DJI how about making better American drones? In my opinion no other company comes close for recreational and enterprise level drones. Just when I thought Autel could compete with DJI, DJI made Autel inferior.
@@marktownsend78 please give some examples. I do travel a lot so not being portable is a deal breaker. I also am not aware of a non portable drone comparable to the Air 2S so your insight would be appreciated. 🙂
@@battery_wattage Portable drones and high quality don’t typically go hand in hand. I fly larger machines with larger cameras because that is what benefits the customer most. @@marktownsend78 well you gave enterprise level equipment but I would argue that DJI does a better job of price to performance for low tiered enterprise applications. When I do work it’s just for real estate and my drone is more than enough. My drone also suits my needs best than similar drones from the competition and is cost effective for me. For travel I meant air travel. Why would I want to haul around a whole suitcase for a drone when I can fit my entire kit in one of my carryons, otherwise I would have not had taken some amazing recreational shots. I still believe DJI is the best compared to the competition for specific markets it’s Tailored for especially when it comes to cost.
I recently moved to China, I use to live in Canada and always wanted a drone but the drone laws in Canada are insane so never really did but since I moved to China the basically are no laws other than drone has to be under 4kg without a licence and stay away from government buildings other than that do whatever you want aha. My dad is really into drones and is currently living in the USA and it makes him mad then I have more drone freedom here than he does in the US… ironic I guess Lol
If that's the case why not ban Samsung phones or any other product from china that can access the internet. I mean cell phone can access more stuff than a drone can. You said it yourself that this lawmaker supports delivery drones but wants to ban dji drones. Sounds to me it's a way to get what he wants which is delivery drones and other drones out of the way
Sad thing is they can get people to believe corporate and government drones would be more safe than recreational. Thus giving those entities more freedoms and restricting ours.
I haven’t watched this yet, but I’m going to guess in advance that it Hass to do with big donators who want to take over the skies, such as Amazon, Walmart, and other juggernauts!
100% agree. I am of the same opinion. DJI is the leader here in the states and I for one know that they have so many uses besides what most consumers are using them for. It’s ridiculous that most people who “claim” drones are bad is simply due to the lack of knowledge about drones themselves, let alone the hundreds of uses. Love your channel brother because your tell it how it is, and you make cool content as well😏
As someone who has several DJI drones and Autel drones and really enjoys flying them daily, it really does concern me in regards to this current government legislation. However, as a former military soldier, I have often wondered about DJI geo fencing, which identifies every critical infrastructure and airspace and military installation and power plant and dams in the entire country. These would make extremely valuable first strike targets for any foreign country looking to cripple America in a first strike scenario. But on the other hand, it can just be a political power play at monopolizing an industrial market.
The same information for geofencing is available on the FAA certified flight charts. You can pick those up at a Pilot Supply shop at an airport near you.
This is not just about what's happening now. The biggest concern is not about whether the user's personal data is used, but rather in a case of war with China, the Chinese government will surely use DJI in their advantage. According to the laws of the PRC, the citizens and therein companies will be obliged to comply in times of war for the benefits of their national interests. This is rather "be safe than be sorry" policy. DJI is such an excellent brand and they have very good products (to say the least), but the crappy geopolitical situation these days is ruining everything.
Good video, I didn’t know this legislation was underway. It might explain why Best Buy has not had the dual lavalier microphone by DJI in their stores for over 10 months. Sad as it sounds I think if there is to be hope for DJI in the USA they may have to hire Hunter.
The Drone UA-camrs are going nuts over DJI possibly being banned. Why? Because their income is affected. I think much if this also has to do with what drones have been doing in Ukraine.
There are so many restrictions now with such severe penalties for flying in areas or interest, it's getting depressing and too much stress to want to go out and fly for fun. I was in Lake Tahoe last week, and it's fully restricted in all the cool areas, yes, I could toss it up for some shots, but overall there some severe fines/penalties there as well with Arizona where I live.
Yeah, they said the same crap about Huawei, well that didn't turn out the way the U.S wanted it to, did it. Huawei is still around and making a big comeback world wide. Even if the U.S government Banned DJI from the states. It wouldn't be the end of DJI, this would be a loss to the U.S. Remember DJI has A global market base, Virtually all of the, so-called third world countries, including western countries use these Drones.
I was having my morning coffee the other day when I noticed barriers and a cone at the end of the street, leading to a busy street, by my corner house. Since I was also reading on my tablet, I got up and walked up to the now no traffic “busy” street (cordoned off from one end to the other, which was eerie seeing it like this) Down the street, about 150 meters west of my house, where police vehicles (one a forensic unit), flashing lights, no noise, other then the officers walking back and forth talking to each other. As I stood there watching and wondering what the heck was going on, I hear a familiar noise. My instinct and interest peaked, as a large drone flew up from the other side of the vehicles. To say I was fixated, is putting it mildly. As I kept watching everything, I noticed a motorcycle flat on the ground, on a driveway that lead to a retirement home, next to the police vehicle. This commercial drone, was flown back and forth, down the empty street and near to where the vehicles where parked blocking the street, at about 30m in the air. At one point, I noticed an officer peeking at his hand, which made me think he is the operator. Then he walked away from them all, and towards my spot. “Sorry to interrupt, is that a DJI drone” I asked him? “Yes it is”, was all he said and walked back, while occasionally glancing at his hand and the drone. Turns out that the police department in my Ontario, Canada, suburban city, was using a Matrice. I of course took a number of videos of this, using my iPad, watching the drone up in the sky and the police doing their job. No idea if stupid will follow stupid up here, with our Federal twits copying yours in the States. As this is NOT, a hype train, anyone should buy a ticket and board, against DJI. YES, buy, as I do not “buy” many things our Federally , or other countries Federally keep trying to sell us. I can imagine, your lawmakers, whom proposed this law against DJI, and watched what I watched, would be wringing their hands in glee. “Look, look, see, I am sure the Chinese government is learning all our secrets and how our police are doing their job! They probably are secretly replaying all the longitude and latitude coordinates from this and capturing all the videos! Horrors, we must stop them in their tracks! Skydio and our own government, would never do that!” Is probably what those lawmakers would say (as they purchase more Skydio stock). You all sold your federal reserve, you all bought into weapons of mass destruction ( and of course the “western nations”, do not have any), you bought into how wonderful Presidents can use twitter, you bought into how Presidents do not have inter marital affairs, and so forth. Why not take down a “evil” billion dollar company, for the showmanship it offers. Reminds me of those, ole wild west “doctors”, that sold snake oil as the cure all for everything. But I regress, as this should be an eye opener for all of us common type, to take notice. Make our voices heard, and stay at it till the end. They will never stop at just DJI, once they get their hooks in, and keep selling you “snake oil”. Good luck my southern cousins, and I hope you can kick that nonsense to the curb, where it and those lawmakers belong! To finish my short soliloquy, other then my elation watching them do their job and using the drone, this is not a completely happy story, as the 27 yr old driver, did pass away in that accident. Oh, I do enjoy my DJI Mini 3 Pro.
Drones. Vaping. It just keeps reminding me of that line from that Zork video game years ago. You're not the boss of you, I am the boss of you. I wish the American public would wake up and realize they can fire all of the politicians and get the laws changed.
As a developer and owner of dji drones, I can say this : Dji has one of the best compressed and encrypted data protocol for video and data transmission. DJI is connecting to foreign servers . If you fly offline, like the cellphone is in airplane mode, dji transfers more data after the software connects again to the internet. That are facts. Clearly we dont now what they transfer because its encrypted. Lets say the transmission data is ok. I think the problem is, what could they transmit if the chines government give an order. I believe this has not happened yet. I think its complicated after America started a economy war with china. I believe google, facebook and others collecting much more data. Greetings from Germany.
I dont think drone delivery will ever take off too much liability for the companies . Crashing drones starting wild land fires injuryies to people. Ppl high jacking drones for the products there carrying. Let them invest there money and loose it by lawsuits.
This hits home with a conversation I was having with a friend recently, who was a state rep for a few years (and also worked in the insurance business). Roundabouts on roads have been popping up my area over the last 10 years but aggressively so over the last 5 years. Most of them aren't too bad, but some of the bigger ones with higher traffic can get crazy at times. And some people just aren't good at navigating them. I was curious other than the not needing a traffic light, what is the benefit. He explained they aren't necessary safer in the sense that there are fewer accidents, nor are they necessarily more efficient with traffic. But that insurance companies have been lobbying for them for years because 1 bad T-bone accident at a traffic light will cost them more in medical bills and legal fess. than 20 side swipes or fender benders at a lower speed.
So reduced medical bills surely equate to improved safety. I'd take a roundabout over lights any day. But just to confuse things, here in the UK, we sometimes combine lights and roundabouts.
On August 10, 2023, Skydio announced it will sunset its consumer drone offerings and focus on Commercial and Enterprise drones. DJI recently announced it is limiting exports of their consumer drones to the US and a few other countries. We should all be paying close attention...
There needs to be a crackdown on software and how it is allowed to be installed. But that messes with our free market making it harder on business. The tricky part is it will have to be done to everything and it makes the free market less free. It really bothers me that DJI does not install through the Google play store and require you to install direct to your phone. I suspect that makes it so that Google OS will not be able to tell me how the DJI app is truly using my data or give me an option to truly remove the program. You see, dealing with computers for 25 years, when you install something it can be really hard to truly remove it eben if the program shows in Windows add and remove programs. The best way to get out stuff that makes your conputer act up after installing faulty or bad software is to format the primary storage drive and re install the operating system.
I am physically no longer able to fly ultralight aircraft so I started flying a drone. I currently have a DJI FPV and absolutely love it, except for the crappy battery which so limits the time I can fly. With it, however, I can once again enjoy the thrill of flight….
Yep
DJI should but Hunter Biden on their board then everything would be fine right? lol

If you supported Skydio then (and I have no reason to be saying this other than how to get the best product in the marketplace for the best price, not in comparison to slave labor manufacturing) they would have been able to afford to spend more on R&D and may have a lot better products in the marketplace.

Haha! This guy literally described FPV!! And FPV has been around longer than DJI.
It’s all part of the economic war against China, they did the same thing and eliminated Huawei from the smartphone space. I think the idea is that Chinese companies aren’t allowed to be number 1 in any field, which is sad for us consumers as competition pushes all companies to innovate.
You don’t honestly believe this do you? The smartphone issue is very different. This is more about giving Amazon access to drone deliveries!

My exact theory
... imagery that you could collect from a private airplane legally and inexpensively...

DJI even sells drones specifically that don't need networking to operate, or any communication other than controller to aircraft.

If they ban DJI drones then those american drone manufacturers should be legally accountable to the “ Monopoly legislation and prosecution “ laws

There’s some drones out there that are truly superior to anything DJI has though to be honest. Like Autel’s Dragonfish. That thing is crazy awesome!
If DJI gets banned, so will Autel, as it's also made in China.
You nailed it at the around 2minute mark with the real reason for bills
If there was a US manufacturer of drones with the same quality and functionality, I'd absolutely support it. DJI really it just the best, especially for the price.
You cannot win a competition by banning the competition
The class action lawsuit that will follow any government ban will be huge.
Thanks Russ for drawing attention to this. Great video
The FAA should first and foremost make sure that airliner manufacturers produce faultless aircraft! One has to wonder how the latest Boeing fiascoS were allowed to happen!
Don't worry, China is building Airliners now!
If they want to stop DJI how about making better American drones? In my opinion no other company comes close for recreational and enterprise level drones. Just when I thought Autel could compete with DJI, DJI made Autel inferior.
There are plenty. They just won’t fit in a fanny pack.
I travel the country weekly (mostly driving) with these machines and have done so for almost two decades.
I don’t see what everyone’s fascination is with pocket drones (aside from being inexpensive) unless they’re backpacking/hiking.
@@battery_wattage Watts Innovations
Freefly
Triad Drones
WISPr Systems
Or, build it for thousands less.
I understand the pocket drone concept if for lower paying real estate work and golf courses. DJI’s payloads represent the lower end of the spectrum compared to what can be used on those listed above with respect to enterprise/industrial.
Sounds to me it's a way to get what he wants which is delivery drones and other drones out of the way
Samsung is Korean, not Chinese
And my iPhone was made where?
Sad thing is they can get people to believe corporate and government drones would be more safe than recreational. Thus giving those entities more freedoms and restricting ours.
Thanks for the info! Just bought a DJI Mini 3 Pro and it’s been the most fun I’ve had in years.
How does UKR keep the information away from the PLA to pass to RUS?
The same information for geofencing is available on the FAA certified flight charts. You can pick those up at a Pilot Supply shop at an airport near you.
All of that info is publicly available free of charge from US Government sources.
Russ Thank You for keeping all of us up on the possibilities that could come.
The average person flying drones in the US cannot deliver military ordinance from their drone...
They are trying to do the very same thing with the 2nd amendment !
It is not about national security but as you mentioned it is about money…
There are so many restrictions now with such severe penalties for flying in areas or interest, it's getting depressing and too much stress to want to go out and fly for fun. I was in Lake Tahoe last week, and it's fully restricted in all the cool areas, yes, I could toss it up for some shots, but overall there some severe fines/penalties there as well with Arizona where I live.
But it's totally fine to have Alexa, a spy, in the corner of your living room. 🤷
I appreciate what you are doing with drones. Thank you. Kiwi
Dji are leading company in the industry ,so it normal to be banned like Huwvai phones
Thank you for a great explanation of these bills and their possible motive. Extremely informative!
The public should know where all commercial drones are located, what is being transported, and the location of delivery.
I am physically no longer able to fly ultralight aircraft so I started flying a drone. I currently have a DJI FPV and absolutely love it, except for the crappy battery which so limits the time I can fly. With it, however, I can once again enjoy the thrill of flight….
thanks I am sharing this out
