Chinese drone maker DJI is dominating the market - despite being blacklisted by the U.S.

- Drones of several varieties have been used on the battlefield during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including makes from DJI.
The global drone market is expected to grow from $30.6 billion in 2022 to $55.8 billion by 2030, according to a report by Drone Industry Insights. DJI dominates more than 70% of that market.
DJI’s first commercially successful product was the Phantom drone, which DJI founder Frank Wang claims made DJI the first company to bring “military-grade technology” to the public.
“The unfortunate thing is that (DJI drones are) very reliable. So, it’s become a product of choice, even for those who want to use a drone inappropriately,” Adam Welsh, DJI’s Head of Global Policy, told CNBC.
A recent controversy around DJI products being used for warfare isn’t the only problem the company has faced.
In December 2021, the Shenzhen-based drone maker was placed on an investment blacklist by the U.S. government, banning American investors from buying or selling shares in the company.
That move is largely symbolic, however, since DJI is a private company.
Watch the video above to understand why the Chinese drone maker is dominating the market - despite being blacklisted by the U.S.

BUT...with that said, I own several DJI drones and gimbals cause there's no equivalent. Nothing comes close. You actually get your money's worth with DJI.
Well said...
America should primary ban guns and drugs instead of flying camera.
Prohibition doesn't work with drugs. If you want to actually fix the drug problem in America, you decriminalize ALL drugs and spend money on public health programs and finally start treating addiction like a disease. Countries that have done this see absolutely huge drops in hard drug usage. The reason this doesn't happen in the USA is because the "war on drugs" is never supposed to be won.
Also banning guns won't work either. People can 3D print weapons now and they might not work as long as a traditional one, but they will work quite well for awhile. The USA also has an absolutely ridiculous amount of firearms. Banning guns would cause so much turmoil that it is a genuinely terrible idea. We need gun control, not banning of guns. Go look up how many firearms the US has, we have more guns than anywhere in the world.
The USA also needs less tribalism, more mental health awareness and treatment, as well as a mainstream media that does not give mass shooters infamy. These things could drastically improve the amount of gun violence in the United States.
I'm not in the USA but I think that's a super idea my friend!
I remember my boss telling me a story where some guy approached him for plastic injection molding for his prototype drone…my boss laughed and denied his request….turned out to be the very first phantom models and later to be DJI. Let’s just say he regretted that business decision to this day.
He missed big bucks ..You are from China ?
Was his name Gary Kildall ?
Hi where can i get this plastic injection molding for my prototypes? Any leads? Or a website?
Same story with GoPro, where DJI approach them for partnership but the response was bad.
yall mfers getting trolled hard.
The US gunlobby logic for guns "guns don't kill people, people use guns to kill" .....so guns are STILL allowed.
The US logic for Drones "Drones don't kill people, people use Drones to kill".....but DJI drones can NOT be allowed and must be banned/blacklisted???
The US ban/blacklist of DJI makes no sense and is very hypocritical/double standard.
You know when a brand winning the market when western media saying about "privacy or data breach" issue from the brand itself.
It is ridiculous just like our smart phones! Most of dji users in the United States are for only recreational or commercial uses like real estate or search and rescue
So when Us decides to blacklist a company , the world has to stop using it and the company should stop prosper?! Nonsense.
It’s called hegemony
No surprising, the US wants to keep their lead and suppress anyone who tries to surpass them
Only if China kneels down, but China doesn't
They are salty because they simply can't compete. Everybody must stop their development at the behest of the US! It's madness.
DJI is just superior to other drone manufacturers. It gives you the best bang for your buck, in terms of cost, reliability, ease of use, software, hardware, and technology. In the FPV space, DJI has moved the needle and pushed the adoption of digital. They are definitely the "Apple" of drones.
Best bang for your buck is to build your own. However if you do not have those skills such as soldering and simple programming... you are almost stuck with DJI. Theres a few other options but they are daunting to a newb, so DJI gets all this "they are the best" claims from people who dont know any better.
@@crisnmaryfam7344 I just need a fucking drone to do my job, I got no time to build one.
@@crisnmaryfam7344 As someone who builds FPVs, I do not recommend that for the general consumer base. WAY too time consuming, and can get very expensive especially when crash it often at the start. Furthermore, if a certain component fails and the drone flies away or lands on a treetop, that's thousands gone. With DJI at least they will compensate you
@@crisnmaryfam7344 even if you know how to program you can't beat DJI which has thousands of programmers, r&d researchers, designers effort to make it perfect. Probaly would be able to make a raft version of the drone.
0:22 "the unfortunate thing is that it is a very reliable product"....? He really just said that with a straight face
ive got 3 DJI drones which I use to make videos while im travelling and they are a brilliant bit of kit....way ahead of their rivals in my opinion
America when China does something better than them again: 🤬😡🤬🤬
that’s just a really dumb statement, Everything the Chinese has, is due to the theft of American technology.
Ukrainians are using DJI drones in fight right now. US Military Complex can't handle it.
Every single time!😞👍
America is a 3rd world country with money borrowed money that is
US: Ah.... Yes..... Another Huawei
They just don't want anyone else growing and dominating them in technology, they use any means or excuse to ban and crush them.
Though PRC overreach is not helpful...
It's China, the creator of the covid virus, what do you expect, we are speaking about a regime who puts millions of people in camps because of their religion. we are speaking about a regime who created a virus and killed millions of people around the world and took no responsibility.
Difference is that there is no alternative like Apple so they can't actually do much about it
As an fpv drone pilot even in the fpv community dji is in my opinion the top contender
Don’t like it?? Make your own drone. That’s what DJI did.
Why? Because US doesn't have any company similar to it. Same with why android market ironically is dominated by China & Korea
Skydio?
Wingtra?
AgEagle?
Well china makes them so cheap so consumers purchase them and it gives china a spy platform. DJI codes backdoor access into their products so info can be sent back to the CCP
@@AstroNootFPV Never heard of them. lol
Ironically, DJI drones were used for earthquake relief in Turkey.😂
@Fauxsho9 did you just comparing military grade equipment with commercial?.. what😅
@Fauxsho9 bayrakhtar is expensive to operate.. so it is logical to use dji , dji agras or dji m30t matrice.. they are cheaper and not expensive to opwrate.. both are for different purposes
Also As Surveillance in India
@@nerrailwaygorakhpur7173 i bet for military stuff india got their own private military drone right .. or specialize dji for military..
@@carrotpiedpiper No India is not capable Like China even America can't surpass that's level of China's drone so the question of Having India its own is ❎ and also they are not accepting the truth because of bilndless ego reside in their mind. For GoPro to left the drone game industry to mainly focus on camera action, and think that they will be fine. Now DJI dominated the drone industry and trying to step into camera action game as well, this together was a big failure for GoPro company.
DJI are dominating the market largely because their products are super reliable, easy to obtain, and they are well supported engineering wise. The fact that humans are using them for purposes they were not designed for is typical of all man made products which are often used for violent purposes. But blaming DJI for making a superb product equally useful for war is like blaming the gun manufacturer for murders committed by people who use them criminally. There is no logic in blaming misuse on the product itself....
I own 3 DJI drones and like most owners use them responsibly. I applaud them for their superb products regardless of usage by others.
Don’t hate the player, hate the game. DJI is the best
From the owning the phantom 4 pro , Air 2S, FPV , and now the Mini 3 Pro. They define the definition of quality. Only reason the U.S would ban DJI. Is because they’ve come to accept that the superiority is there. But as a company they should definitely oversee how and where their products are heading negatively.🙏
That's not at all a company's business. A chemical company cannot run after everyone misusing chemicals. Same with cars, guns, knives, medicines, *_drones_* etc
Who is US to talk about Xinjiang? Uyghurs are Chinese citizens and Xinjiang is a province of China , Xinjiang province is a mix of Han Uyghur Mongol Kazakh Kyrgyz Tajik cultures.
Because US human rights violations don't exist. That happens when you write the rules for the world. According to them.
USA seem to be concerned with China muslim but they don't give a heck on gaza muslim despite the human rights issue.
Do you know that knives are used in battleground and assassination tasks? Lets think deep about and perhaps ban knives..
I was trying to think of a comment like this ^
@MED M7 Same for Facebook, and Amazon's Alexa maybe? Except they send your data to the NSA instead of China
@MED M7 you should open up your knife handle buddy. There might be a chip inside it.
@medm7357 just like Facebook and UA-cam that collect your data and give the fbi access to that data anytime they want
@@Rex-ww4cw Blades can't make money, and the cost of DJI UAV is only $100.

I am sure Murica would never use drones in the battlefield. Such peaceful nation.
DJI contributed excellent products and value for human society. Enjoy your experiences with DJI!
US isn't the only market for drone 🤣🤣🤣
True. Many in the US seem to believe they are the civilised word and the only ones on the Internet...
I remember when remote control helicopters were cool when I was a kid.
The Chinese will dominate the commercial and military drone tech and production at the lowest cost possible. Same in shipbuilding etc.
No American company can produce the quality drones DJI produces.
DJI not allowed to be used in Ukraine.
🇺🇲, 🇩🇪 👈 send tanks.
The US is like that kid that sabotages the game when they're losing lol. They did the same to Suzuki, bullied them out of business in the US because they (The Jimny/Samurai) were killing Jeeps lol.
DJI is the best drone in the market! Thank you DJI and China!
China owns us. Lol. Really dude?
I use DJI for my search and rescue activities. It’s a solid product and saves lives. Kent . Montana USA
Nice to hear that. Presumably you have infra-red sensitive lenses on the ones you use? Big bucks for them.
@@TerryMcGearyScotland i guess he have matrice30t or just mavic pro ..matric30t can reach 30k ..it is expensive
I’m surprised they only have 70% market share considering how crappy other drones are in comparison for the money. I think it’s not fare that they don’t have a full blown monopoly.

@@crisnmaryfam7344 total noobs. real men build their own drones. Ban all cars that have electronics they can manipulated too! Govt 😎
Or do nothing and let china have all our information.
They are successful because they are one of a handful of Chinese companies that actually care about the products that they put on the market.
Whyt do you mean? Huawei and alot of Chinese companies had amazing products but the USA just banned them.
Lol, it would be a giant hand.
That's because Americans only buy Chinese products that are inexpensive so guess what? They're cheaply made. If you go to China or other parts of Asia that import products of comparable price to US made products, the quality is actually superior to US made products.
Well at least the Chinese have " a handful" of companies that care as opposed to the USA that have none and only rely on bans, sanctions and any other kind of dirty tricks to stay competitive.
DJI Best Drones in the Market and FIRST! lot of other manufacturers in US want to Cancel them out because they can't make a better drone
That's how they stay on top
How do u know that?
why there is no concern about boeing making military jet plane?
Because they are American
There is no comparison to any other drone brand. They are so far ahead it’s not even funny.

Still love my DJI Phantom 3 Standard
My favorite teacher in high school had one of those too! Too shame they don't make the Phantom series anymore.

I owe dji mini 3 pro. And drone is rock solid.
