    I wish my new Z Grills smoker would stay below 200° for low and slow cooks, but even on the smoke setting with the vent closed it won’t...at least not in the summer weather.

    • @zgrillsaustralia4541
      @zgrillsaustralia4541  4 роки тому

      Closing the vent will make the temp higher, not lower (as less air flow), so maybe trying opening that up more. The problem in hot weather is even with the smallest fire it is still putting out heat and so can be difficult to keep the temp low. But you can still get plenty of smoke at higher temps of 225oF and even 250oF

    I smoked a pork shoulder on smoke setting for 6 hours is that too long? And is it dangerous to leave at a low temp for that long? Cooked it higher for a few hours after of course.

  • @mastadon7771

    Mine smokes for a minute but then the temp keeps climbing. Regardless of which setting I have it one. Within a few minutes it's above 230f
    Ideas?

    • @zgrillsaustralia4541
      @zgrillsaustralia4541  2 роки тому

      If it climbs and then eventually settles back down (after 10-15min) then may have too many pellets during startup. Just leave the lid open for couple of minutes after the big clouse of smoke, then close the lid (let some initial heat out). If keep climbing way higher (and didn't in the past) then may be controller hardware issue.

    I just picked up a Zgrill and smoked my first tri-tip with it. I'm just confused about one thing. Is smoke still being produced on the other settings like if I set the grill temperature to 250° F? Or does this grill only produce smoke when it's on the smoke setting?

    • @ericg5877
      @ericg5877 Рік тому +1

      It'll produce smoke into the higher temperatures but understand that the higher the temperature the less smoke you'll have because all the energy/heat is going into making the unit hotter

    What about adding a homemade cold smoker to the grill.

    • @zgrillsaustralia4541
      @zgrillsaustralia4541  9 місяців тому +1

      Of course you can if you wish mate. Ideally mount so the smoke is introduced under the grease tray so it mixes with the air from the Fire-pot for bettter smoke circulation around the drum.

    • @zgrillsaustralia4541

      The smoke setting can be used to start up the grill and then at anytime. It just operates with a set on/off timer for maximum smoke level.

    • @nightwings8984
      @nightwings8984 6 місяців тому

      A pellet grill is a pellet smoker that has higher temps. Its so expensive because you get smoke flavor without having to sit there for 8 hours manually tending the fire.

      What temperature setting did you use? Also the smoke flavour will really enter the meat when cold and wet over the first hour or so of the cook, so important to use smoke (or low temp) setting for that period before increasing to the normal cook temp.

    • @zgrillsaustralia4541
      @zgrillsaustralia4541  4 роки тому +1

      On the smoke setting the temp will cycle over a big range as much as 70oC / 160oF to 90oC / 195oF, but could spike up to 200oF for a short while.. just let it run and you should see it slowly cycle up and down. Also if you are starting up the grill, keep the lid open for about 10min to allow some of the initial pellets to burn off before shutting the lid, that will help prevent an initial temp spike too. Remember it is easy for the temp to go up quickly, hard for it to come down quickly, unless in very cold weather.
