After my divorce nine years ago, I've learned to love myself and I'm most important in my life. If I am not well, I will be no good to anyone. So, I gave away way too much of myself to a life that did not love me back. My two children are the greatest gifts!

I am a 50 year old male, and have just come to the same realisations as you, especially when it comes to serving in the church. I was trying to do an internship and my blood pressure was through the roof. since taking a step back from ministry and slowing down my health is returning to normal.

Hi I was doing the same I am 54 and was new to a church, made a year this month. but in the very beginning I was volunteering constantly to all the different ministries and became sick a few times and very tired from dong too much , and giving up my gym workouts as well..so I had to pray on it and I stepped back a bit and put back the things I was doing for my health and also rest and now I have a better balanced life. Especially because both of my sons are special needs but despite the challenges I face it’s only because of GOD I MADE IT THIS FAR. As a Christian wife it's so refreshing to hear you say it's ok to not have to constantly pour from an empty cup and to put energy towards myself. I noticed getting rid of things we idolize is a fantastic way to be closer to God. From the model cars I used to keep on shelves from family photos. Everything. No idols at all!
I love my family and do everything I can to love them and help them and honor them. Everything!!
But I don’t require idolizing them with pictures around my house.
I am closer to them without those pictures around if you can imagine that.

Thoughtful lists like this inadvertently cause our soul to double down on operating towards Jesus, rather than from the resurrected Life of Christ Jesus within us.
Yes, such practices are a reflection of choosing to abide in His ways, and to aid our soul in dying to its insufferable devotion to preserve self, but the transformative Life nonetheless can only come from Christ within the Christian.
If we can train our soul to look only at Jesus, then, God willing, the Holy Spirit is allowed to graft His Resurrected Life unto our soul life.
The wise habits of lists like this then become Fruit of the Vine, so to speak, and not of the branch.
Thank you for the room to share.

I agree with you that every soul is different, and that lists as such are typically beneficial.
I was speaking to the notion of the soul's "salvation" (liberation) as a matter of exchanging our soulish life, for His Resurrected Life within us; something that the exclusively unique soul of every human being is called to come into the bridal-ing submission to (union with).
Anyways, you are the teacher on this channel, and I do respect that :)

@@MJ-kd7dp I hear what you’re saying! But having the heart open before they can even recognize, Christ is the first step. You can be religious all day long and try to do everything right until you clear things out of your way you are not going to take on reality. I come about this through the process of spiritual formation. Some people start with creeds. Theology. The right dogmas.. however I believe God can meet people where they’re at, so I am so grateful that you wanted to share. I also don’t find anything wrong with the way, I presented this information in terms of it structure. If there are content, that is unhelpful, please let me know so that I can continue to share from the truth of my own experience and pray it blesses someone else!
The Holy Spirit is responsible for revealing Christ! And I hope we continue to look for him in everything we do, whether it’s simplifying our lives to orienting ourselves to the holy mystery that is revealing himself through the spirit moment by moment.
