🎶 I love Valentine's Day and the 4th of July I'm a little bit sad when Halloween has gone by I'm thankful thanksgiving comes around in the fall But I've always loved Christmas, the best of them all Everydays special, I'm not complaining But I'm always counting the days still remaining Til Christmas 🎶 My childhood will never die so long as I have great memories like these
Every year at Christmas I quote Garfield "Christmas speech, it's not the giving, It's not the getting, it's the sharing..... Now get our of here! I love it!
Other underrated Christmas specials I’d recommend: 1. ALL of the “Flintstones” Christmas specials (“A Christmas Flintstone”, “The Flintstones Christmas”, “A Flintstone Family Christmas”, and “A Flintstones Christmas Carol”) 2. The “Prep and Landing” specials (which appeared on this video but sadly didn’t even make an Honorable Mention). 3. “Santa Company” (a successfully Kickstarted indie anime special by Kenji Studio) 4. “Santa’s Missing Hat” ( “Hello Kitty” franchise) 5. “Jingle Bell Rap” - about a rock band of anthropomorphic dogs performing at their hometown and one of its members trying to make peace with his father 6. “Father Christmas” (from the creator of “The Snowman”) 7. “Night of the Meek” (“The Twilight Zone”) - No, really. Even though it deals with some supernatural phenomena, it’s actually pretty uplifting.
I cannot tell you how happy I was when I got the "Garfield Holiday Celebrations" dvd for Christmas in 2004. I had not seen that special in forever--I have probably watched it something like 100 times since I got it--I pretty much have it memorized word for word lol.
Garfield is the best! i laughed so hard when Jon Said "Garfield you know what day it is?" and Garfield "Of Course i do christmas means presents" (in a deep voice)
Yes...The Snowman is my earliest childhood memory of Christmas. The fact I balled my eyes out probably made it etched on my brain! But it so reminds me of a simpler time haha
My Finnish family watches Mickey´s Christmas carol each year. I don´t think you can call it underrated :D it´s loved by the international disneyphiles world wide!
According to Jim Davis some of the Arbuckle family traditions are based on his own family's traditions. So it has a nice personal touch, and the subplot with Grandma was nice.
It's even better when you know that Jon Arbuckle's Grandmother was played by the late great Pat Caroll, a.k.a. Ursula the Sea Witch in all of Disney's animated adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
Dude! I love Olive the other reindeer!!! Also let's not forget the true hero of Arnold's Christmas, Helga. She gave up her boots that she's always wanted and she gave them up to help Arnold.
Garfield's Christmas is one of my favorites too! I am very glad that I own a copy on DVD since CBS stopped airing it years ago. Another great Christmas cartoon that gets overlooked IMO is The Real Ghostbusters episode Xmas Marks The Spot. In the story the Ghostbusters pass through a time slip into Victorian England and meet Scrooge and The Three Ghosts of Christmas. The Ghosts get contained, and when the Ghostbusters get back to their time as a result no one celebrates Christmas. Egon Spengler must venture into the Containment Unit to get the Ghosts, and Peter, Ray and Winston must step in as the Ghosts of Christmas to help Scrooge learn his lesson in the event Egon is not successful. Peter learns the spirt of the season, as well since he a difficult time around Christmas as child which he held onto in his adulthood. Both The Muppets Christmas and Hey Arnold are two Christmas specials that deserve to be talked about more. Having all of Jim Henson's Muppet characters together for the first time is amazing. Really hope that some day, the original version is released on DVD in the US. Also I am really surprised that Emmett Otter's Jug band Christmas did not make the list since it was another Jim Henson project that is largely forgotten about when compared to 1992's The Muppet Christmas Carol.
My 2 favorite underrated Christmas specials are "Opus & Bill: A Wish for Wings that Work", based on Bloom County/Outland; and "VeggieTales: The Toy That Saved Christmas", which pokes fun at the whole Must-Have Toy trope AND network programming, all with a Christian twist.
Imagine. You’re a kid. You’re watching the Garfield Christmas special. Then that scene. That damn scene where the grandma is rocking in the rocking chair, looking out the window, talking about how she misses her dead husband. Then you cry. And you change as a person.
Garfield and muppets and peanuts love. Jim hensen cameo has made cry over the years cause a few later after the special he passed away. Even sadder is that this was last muppets special he worked on before his passing
@@Zodia195 Same here, I never met Jim Henson in person but I really enjoyed his work. Both the Muppets and Sesame Street were a big part of my childhood. Also as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan, the work that Jim Henson's Creature Shop did for the 1990 live action movie is some of the best puppetry work I have ever seen. Even though it has been many years since he passed away, I still miss him.
@@sadlobster1 Yes, indeed since the year 2000 a lot of great Christmas specials stopped airing on TV like they did in the past (Garfield's Christmas, It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown and many more). A lot of the newer specials and Christmas episodes just cannot hold a candle to many of the specials listed here. I am really glad that I have both The Real Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003) on DVD so I can watch the Christmas episodes every year.
The Garfield Christmas special is A Must for me every single year. I grew up with the Garfield cartoons and comics, and I bought the DVD of all three holiday specials just for the Christmas one. "Arnold's Christmas" is a masterpiece. Arnold's selfless determination shines all throughout, but it's Helga's act of sacrifice for his sake that gets me every. Single. Time.
Here are MY favorite Christmas Specials (there's no worst to best here, they're all wonderful) 10. Doug's Christmas Story (Nickelodeon's Doug) 9. The Santa Experience (Rugrats) 8. A Very CatDog Christmas (CatDog) 7. An All Dogs Christmas Carol 6. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the 1960's version) 5. A Garfield Christmas Special 4. (a bit of a tie) Christmas Who? and A Spongebob Christmas (Spongebob Squarepants 3. Yogi's First Christmas 2. A Flintstones Christmas 1. Arnold's Christmas
I had The Christmas Toy on VHS as a kid and I wore the tape out. The story is actually very entertaining and the songs are catchy. UA-cam used to have the whole movie on, but it's most likely taken down now
Ah brilliant well done Ms Mojo, I've watched many Christmas/holiday specials over the years but you got to go a long way to beat this one. I really think it's the best animated Christmas story of all time. It's so sad and moving but has the most lovely ending. I've watched yours watch mojo and mojo UK for a few years now but this is your best number one so far. Double Thumbs Up for this one though Merry Christmas MoJo xx
*Sees #3* OMG THANK YOU! I've been trying to find this Christmas special for ages!! But I never knew the name! I saw this as a kid in the 80s and it made me cry, but I've always wanted to rewatch it again. I just knew it was a Jim Henson work and that's why I saw it to begin with since I am a huge fan of his works. #2 is my fav Christmas special of all time since it's the first Crossover I've ever scene and I had my first fangasm lol. I watch it every Christmas on UA-cam. There are a few other Specials that I love seeing- New Kids on the Block Christmas special (yes they did have an animation show), David Copperfield (it aired around Christmas and starts at Christmas so it counts lol), and The Town that Santa Forgot (much like the Grinch, the narration is all in rhyme).
Charlie Brown's two Christmas specials, A Garfield Christmas, Muppet Family Christmas, and (not in this list) the Claymation Christmas Celebration are staples for me during Christmas.
Quite a few years ago, I collected a number of Christmas specials. Some on this list. Many not included. Rugrats Chanakah, all the Muppet Christmas specials, Claymation Christmas with the California Raisins, Berke Breathe's a Wish for Wings that Work, and The Tailor of Gloucester with Ian Holm.
The Small One was written by Frank Tazewell, the same person who wrote The Littlest Angel. The first time it was presented was in 1946 on Philco Radio Time hosted by Bing Crosby.
I'll admit...This is a good list. 10: Really funny honestly. 9: So much adorable charm! 8: Simple and sweet. 7: So beautiful yet tragic 6: YAAAASSS!!! Such an amazing special! 5: Really nostalgic. 4: Such a fun cartoon! And oof, that ending. 3: I never really watched this....Buuut, I'm interested. 2: Same as number 3 1: Such an amazing special!
Here are my top 10 underrated Christmas specials, in no particular order: 1. Cricket on the Hearth 2. The First Christmas Snow 3. Davey and Goliath: Christmas Lost and Found 4. Nestor, the Long Eared Christmas Donkey 5. Silent Night, Holy Night 6. Casper's First Christmas 8. A Christmas Story (1972) 9. Yogi's First Christmas 10. Twas' The Night Before Christmas
Olive the Other Reindeer was a movie that would be played every Christmas when I was in elementary school, it's a movie that I don't know if a lot of people remember, but I have a soft spot for it
All great choices here! Some of my favorite underrated Christmas specials that are not mentioned on this list (honorable or otherwise): Santa Buddies (2009) Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas (1999) Will Vinton’s Claymation Christmas Celebration (1987) Opus & Bill in A Wish for Wings That Work (1991) The Star (2017)
Clearly, I've aged out of the market. "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" was my best pick, as it was the first animated special, which I saw on it's first showing. The song ,"The Lord's Bright Blessing", will break your heart.
the snowman is a yearly tradition for me but i don't see how it is underrated, it's on every year where i live and has been in adverts like the iron bru one.
Three strongly underrated Christmas specials are "The Town That Santa Forgot" (1993), narrated by the melodious vocals of Bert himself, Dick Van Dyke, about a selfish child who writes such a long Christmas list to Santa that Santa mistakes it for a list from children of an entire town. Poetic rhyming-based hilarity ensues. "Buster & Chauncey's Silent Night" (1998), an animated historical fiction adaptation of the story of how the classic German Christmas hymn Silent Night was composed, starring the voice talents of Jim Cummings as Buster and Phil Hartman (in one of his last three film roles, the other two being Small Soldiers and the voice of Jiji in the Disney Dub of Kiki's Delivery Service) as Chauncey, two mice who inspire Joseph Mohr in the writing of the hymn. And a special one to me, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" (1993). That Christmas special is notable not only for having Phil Hartman in another major role (as the sheepishly geeky squire Hollyberry), but for being the last TV/movie/Christmas Special to have been written by Romeo Muller before his death. Romeo is notable for being the king of classic holiday-special writers. He wrote the scripts to many classic Rankin and Bass stop-motion and animated TV specials and movies, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph's Shiny New Year, Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Return to Oz (1964), J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit (1977), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (1980), the three Puff the Magic Dragon TV films, and The Flight of the Dragons (1982).
i love the snowman! My mom and i watch it every year. Gorgeous animation and love the song Walking in the air. Arnold's Christmas makes me cry! So good. Wish the series was still on netflix to watch
Most underrated Holiday specials: Any of the Animaniacs Christmas episodes Tiny Toon Adventures It's a Wonderful Christmas Special A Pinky and the Brain Christmas A Garfield Christmas Special Nick and Noel Rudolph's Shiny New Year (Rankin/Bass) Rugrats Hanukkah Special The Snowman Twas the Night Before Christmas (Rankin/Bass)

My childhood will never die so long as I have great memories like these.
Seriously??? No "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol"??? The first and best animated Christmas special. IMO. Mr. Magoo was not my favorite cartoon character, but he was a GREAT Scrooge. And Jack Cassidy's Bob Cratchit was AMAZING.
I have a special fondness for the Animaniacs Christmas special. The first half is the funniest Christmas Carol parody I've ever seen. And the second half is even more remarkable - it's a spoof on the Nativity that's funny without being offensive, and respectful without being overly religious. Try pulling that off nowadays.
I still need to see The Christmas Toy. I used to like The Secret Life of Toys which was a follow on series featuring similar puppets like Rugby and the mouse toy but didn't know about The Christmas Toy until much later. We had The Muppet Family Christmas on VHS, though.
In the UK, Channel 4 have airred the Snowman every year over Christmas. Recently had a sequel - The Snowman and the Snowdog. Even that has a weepy moment, but near the beginning.
Getting in the holiday spirit?! Check out our Christmas playlist here: ua-cam.com/video/jazhvgGY2Wg/v-deo.html
MsMojo I cried when match girl died and at the end it was kind of sad but kind of happy in a way they could she got to be with her grandmother

Olive the Other Reindeer is truly the most underrated Christmas special
And cartoon network stole it from fox.

Grandma and her story with grandpa. So sweet

Me too
I saw it a few times on TeenNick (on their 90s block)
Love both Charlie Brown Christmas specials

I would add Rugrats Christmas special to the list.
The Snowman breaks my heart. Lol I cried at the end....and now my twin nieces love it now but one also gets teary at the end.... Bless.
Garfield and muppets and peanuts love. Jim hensen cameo has made cry over the years cause a few later after the special he passed away. Even sadder is that this was last muppets special he worked on before his passing

Hold up!! How is Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas not up here?!!
I was going to say the same thing!
I was actually thinking about that one!
The Christmas Toy is the best show ever. Thank you for including it. Also, I remember the Garfield and Muppet Family specials, too.
Garfield’s Christmas is my childhood cartoon 😭😭
I love watching Muppets Family Christmas 🎄

MsMojo can you do a Top 10 Christmas Desserts. Also can you do a Top 10 Christmas Rankin/Bass Films.
There were only about 15 RB Christmas specials so it would be pointless doing just a top 10.
The Dinosaurs special Refrigerator Day is pretty clever for the show's premise. Also, Small One deserves more than an honorable mention.
The candle girl makes me want to cry
John Denver and The Muppets Christmas is my favorite. :)

The Story of Santa Claus with Ed Asner, Betty White and Tim Curry should have made the list.
Disney´s Little Matchgirl makes me cry even when it´s a little clip in a MsMojo video!
i love the snowman! My mom and i watch it every year. Gorgeous animation and love the song Walking in the air.
Arnold's Christmas makes me cry! So good. Wish the series was still on netflix to watch

Great to see both The Christmas Toy and Muppet Family Christmas on here! Those are true classics!
Merry Christmas Miss Mojo 🎄
6:23 The white toy in the background looks almost like Olaf. Creepy.
Another good one. Twelve Tiny Christmas Tales. Also, The Troll's Christmas.
Awesome Festive Video 🎄
Bump in the night "Twas the night before Bumpy" is a awesome underrated classic
I largely agree with this list. Especially the Muppet Family Christmas. That one was great!
Robbie the Reindeer should have been given a honorable mention. That is one of the best Christmas specials ever made.
Eureka's Castle Christmas Special is still one of my all-time faves and very unknown!
Where is Bah Humduck!: A Looney Tunes Christmas? I've made it a christmas tradition to watch it while I'm wrapping presents.
You couldn't be more correct about #1!!! ❤️💚

Ziggys gift Christmas cartoon has always been a favorite of my sister and i I believe it was out on tv in the early 80s i love it.
🎶I love Valentine's Day and the 4th of July
I'm a little bit sad when Halloween has gone by
I'm thankful thanksgiving comes around in the fall
But I've always loved Christmas, the best of them all
Everydays special, I'm not complaining
But I'm always counting the days still remaining
Til Christmas🎶
Olive the Other Reindeer. My childhood will never die so long as I have great memories like these.
I love the Snowman.
Mr Magoo’s Christmas Carol!!! Come on!!!!
I always tear up during all alone in the world
@@werlost Me too! It is more of the signature song for me than "Winter Was Warm."
Ahhhh! Once again no one cares about Claymation Christmas! Why?! It's so amazing!
A Muppet Family Christmas and Garfield's Christmas are in a heavy rotation at my house.
