When my kids were little we would watch this together. Just sent them this clip. It was their favorite. They are 39, 37, and 36 now. Christmas never gets old!
I wish they still made wonderful Christmas Specials like this! How I miss being a child, especially around Christmas time. I desperately miss my family being whole!
A lot of it has to do with the viewership figures and how valuable the studio was that made all the TV specials. Unfortunately, Will Vinton Productions’ fortunes really declined since the turn of the century.
A formerly lost memory of 1980s childhood. Couldn't buy the DVD of the whole show fast enough; this segment was always a favorite! Thank you for the memories!
Watched this every year with my grandparents and family. My grandma loved it. Too bad this will be the first Christmas without her. COVID got her but I wanna buy the movie so I can keep the tradition going.
I'm so sorry about your grandma. We have been (still are) going to extreme measures to keep my mom (who's now a great-great-grandma) from getting covid. So far so good. It's terribly sad what covid did to the lives of old people.
I remember watching this special in band class in 6th grade. Right before the holiday breaks or days after our concerts, my band director would always show us some sort of interesting movie. He was a really great guy, learned a lot from him.
Finally!! The best christmas special ever thanks to an underappreciated art form. Weird how yt search can't find things yet this shows up in related only years after giving up.
During elementary school we would watch this special in our music class the day before Christmas break every year and I remember that being one thing I looked forward to every year. I never knew the name and never bothered to ask, so when I left for middle and high school I had to try describing it to people to see if they had an idea of what it was lol. (you sound like you're describing a fever dream while describing this special) But alas, I finally found it and I have my own copy now!
I can't stop crying! Darlene proving at 83 she can still belt it out and knock it out of the park! Thank you Jimmy Fallon, the Tonight Show, NBC for renewing this annual late night holiday tradition! Awesome performance! Merry Christmas everyone! ❤
I used to love ❤ the California Raisins when I was little such a precious time of year. Merry Christmas 🤶 🧑🎄🎄 ☃️ everyone. The ringing of the bells 🔔 🎶 is fantastic claymation and the dinosaurs 🦕 😂😂😂
It's amazing to me how Will Vinton was just this tour-de-force powerhouse of animation output at this time, and then just suddenly faded away to obscurity. Animation truly can be a fickle industry.
This Christmas special gets me every time when he plays the guiter on his bell Mallet to ring his Bell!! And it's supposed to be his Q the ring his Bell! This is never too old! 😍❤️💯🤣😂🤣
Thanks for posting this- haven't found a good-quality version of this special on UA-cam lately, and this was always my favorite segment! *Happy Holidays!!!*
I just saw this for the very first time last night at a mom friend’s house when we went to celebrate her autistic son’s birthday and she decided to share her Christmas tradition with us and we were all laughing till our sides hurt, and so was my own autistic brother and it usually takes a lot for him to laugh that hard
I was born in 1988, but remember watching this as a little girl in the early 90's. Thankful that my parents showed me this! It's been stuck in my memory banks for a long time.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR YEARS- Spooky story time: when I was about seven years old, my grandparents bought a new TV for the room I stayed in at their house when I visited (it was Christmas btw). I was told by my parents and grandparents that the TV had no cable, but they could plug in a video player where they only had one movie - I believe it was the old Pac Man Christmas Special. Watched it on repeat about three or four times. I looked away for about a couple of seconds to play with toys only to hear the sound of laughing and bells. I turned around to see the bell scene playing, and it terrified me for some odd reason. I got up and ran to tell my parents, so my dad followed me back to the room. It was back on the main menu screen, the Pac Man Christmas Special being the only video available. I continued to describe the scene in detail to my dad, but he thought I was making things up. For years I've been trying to find this exact scene, but I couldn't find anything on it. No one could tell me what this was. For me, it kinda became my own Candle Cove. Thank you, OP, for helping me bring this decade long mystery to a close!
When I saw this as a child my Dad and I couldn't help laughing hysterically. The jumps from serious singing to the Jazzy singing was just so unexpected! Its still brings a smile to my face today.
My moms grandma had a vhs tape with this along with several other Christmas cartoons that are so nostalgic. Sadly the vhs tape was ruined and everything from it was lost
Watched this live when I was 5 years old, recorded on betamax tape, and we'd watch as a family every year. This is still part of Christmas for me, and now my kids.
Rex: Magnificent!!! Uh, who was that conductor? Herb: I don't know, but you know his face sure does rings the bells. ( Rex facepalmed and stick his tongue out ). LOL 😂
OMIGOD I KNEW THIS EXISTED!!!! Don't ask me why but this has stuck in my brain since my childhood. It was played at my elementary school and since then, I have never been able to find it again... That is until now
I also love the Joy to the World segment. I like how it reminds us that all children bring Joy to the world, well if they are wanted by someone that is.
2:58 as a man who’s seen a lot of theatre stuff and pageantries this is one hundred percent accurate of someone making a total ass of themselves on stage
The We Three Kings is always my fave, not just because its my favorite carol but because they nailed the level of irreverence native to camels. Its not that what they sang was bad but not "traditional" compared to what the kings sung, and that is a camel (or llama which I grew up with one...)
When I was a child, this special WAS Christmas.
Was?
Missing you Daddy! We used to watch this during Christmas and not the same without you. Merry Christmas to you 2023!
I bet he still thinking of you in spirit
😞
“His face sure rings a bell!”
I had a hunch he was going to say that!!
😁👍
...How many puns can we squeeze out of this...?
I remember that part the most vividly in the California Raisins Christmas. I’m 50. I still love it. I was 13 when I first saw it.
When my kids were little we would watch this together. Just sent them this clip. It was their favorite. They are 39, 37, and 36 now. Christmas never gets old!
I'm 36 and come back to youtube to search for this every year! Lol
@@cor314 Me too
I watched when I was 9. Now I’m 40
I'm 39 myself and I remembered this
I’m 41 and wish this was on still
The California Raisins Christmas special will always be one if my favorite hidden gems of the late 80s.
Yes!! Born in 86. We watched this as youngsters every year, (claymation Christmas!)
I agree
I remember them
@@747Amyk You are too young to have seen this.
One of my favorite sequences from this special.
I had a hunch that Quasimodo would make a great conductor.
Chaos A.D. GROAN!!
LOL
It only took me 30 years to catch that
Uhhhhhhhh!!!! It feels Soo good but it hurts so much just reading that XD 10/10
Heh. You said hunch. 😀
This was the ONLY Christmas special to watch when I was growing up. It is a true classic and you can't find it ANYWHERE!
That announcer's voice at the beginning of the concert slays me!! Like a PBS announcer...
The show was a Christmas classic.
the air date was Monday December 21, 1987
"I lost mine."
Gets me every time. My dad sometimes says it to be cute when he does something dumb. 😆
I realize you made this comment over a year ago, but I just had to reply and say my dad does the exact same thing.
lol dads
Omg, my dad did the same!!!!!
Mine too! This is an icon for kids born in the 80s
my dad says it too, what the heck
I wish they still made wonderful Christmas Specials like this! How I miss being a child, especially around Christmas time. I desperately miss my family being whole!
Hang in there, man. Prayers for you and your family...
All they can make now is politically correct and woke C R A P !!

@@AudiophileTommy It’s all about what the broadcasters think will get revenue for the advertising sponsors. It’s all about making money.
Absolutely , I couldn't agree with you more 🎄☃️💖.!
A formerly lost memory of 1980s childhood. Couldn't buy the DVD of the whole show fast enough; this segment was always a favorite! Thank you for the memories!
I literally haven't seen this special in decades, and Carol of the Bells in particular was one of my favorite segments, so thank you for posting this.
Watched this every year with my grandparents and family. My grandma loved it. Too bad this will be the first Christmas without her. COVID got her but I wanna buy the movie so I can keep the tradition going.

one of my best child hood memorrys love this
Ah yes this little gem from Will Vinton's Christmas special. This is what high quality stuff is about.
Wow, I can't believe how many times I watched this as a kid. Thank you for posting!
As a kid I was so entertained by the goofy bell I never even realized Quasimodo the hunchback was the maestro lol
ManMonkey600 when he’s introduced the guy says. “I have a hunch”. I never caught that ever as a kid
I remember watching this special in band class in 6th grade. Right before the holiday breaks or days after our concerts, my band director would always show us some sort of interesting movie. He was a really great guy, learned a lot from him.
MY FAVE CHRISMAS SONG COMBINED WIOTH EPIC CLAYMATION ......I CANT
I remember this so well. Was my favorite segment of the entire special!
I used to watch this every year at my grandmother's house for Christmas! Classic claymation Christmas ❤❤
My family and I watch this video every single Christmas as a tradition. So nostalgic, I love it so so much.

My art teacher did this every year. The music teacher if we had her instead would have us color
Late night TV when I was a kid... And seeing this whole special.. Epic..
Still makes me laugh 30 years later.
The look of pure rage at 2:45 is probably my favorite
My family had this recorded on VHS and rewatched it yearly growing up
This is absolutely the best version of the song, as it was meant to be heard. 💯👍🏼👏🏼&🙏🏼 for us all.
The quality is so good! Better than I've ever seen.
This unlocked a memory I had long since forgotten. Thank you
Keeps getting funnier every single year
This sure brings back memories especially around the holiday Christmas season.

There were a lot of factors which were excellently covered in the film Claydream, I totally recommend it!
Thank you! Merry Christmas
I neeeever thought I would see this again. ❤❤❤ This is part of my childhood. The internet can be magical
I've never seen these guys before. Delightful.
Claymation Christmas
On of my all time favorite Christmas animations. Classic and will be forever.
I'm 35 and I remember this, holy crap.
Will Vinton truly was a wizard when it came to claymation, and this special was a testament to that.
This Christmas special gets me every time when he plays the guiter on his bell Mallet to ring his Bell!! And it's supposed to be his Q the ring his Bell! This is never too old! 😍❤️💯🤣😂🤣
I love claymation easter, I didn't know this one

Forever a classic and a favorite of mine ! 😊
Love it when he tried to take the hammer from the other bells

The maestro traumatized me for life!
What a lovely holiday musical 🎼 tune.
I remember when this first aired. I did some of my own stop motion clay videos as a kid.

you can order it on Amazon & you also get a claymation Halloween special with it

We loved the whole program, but the ice skating walruses (Dame Margo Pontoon!) will always be my favorite. ⛸❤️
For me, it's the ice skating walruses, and this segment. And wasn't Margo's partner named Rudolph Nervesonedge? 🤣
Yes!
I also love the Joy to the World segment. I like how it reminds us that all children bring Joy to the world, well if they are wanted by someone that is.
Christmas tradition watching this every year. I had the CD for years one of my favorites.
My mom recorded the whole thing on VHS when I was a kid , I remember it in bits. Found the vhs not to long ago
This was nominated for an Oscar!
Wow a blast from the past. I forgot about this...
I've never this animation or claymation, there's bells playing Carol of the bells. It's pretty epic
Quasimodo is the conductor, wow I'm impressed 👏.

That’s a great one too!!

Awsome my brother as a kid laughed so freaking hard we all laughed at him lol
lol this part is hilarious
That was a cute musical scene.
It wasn't Christmas until my family all watched this special at least once!

Every once in a while I think about this time in the 80s when claymation was everywhere.
Merry Christmas 2023🎄🎅🎁⛄
I LMAO when he got bull's-eyed with the slingshot!
Herb: This isn't driving you off.
Me: But it is driving him crazy.
I love the Christmas classic cartoons
That bell is ADHD in a nutshell lmao
