If I remember correctly, Klaus lost an Oscar to Toy Story 4. It is very unfortunate because Klaus is a marvelous 2D animated Christmas feature and deserves so much praise and appreciation! One of my absolute favorite holiday traditions, period!
No crap! Disney’s only excuse for Pixar to create yet another unnecessary sequel nobody asked was because they couldn’t stomach a NON-Disney movie winning that award. I wanted The Hidden World to win!
It’s also refreshing to have A Christmas Carol film that focuses on the writing and development of the story by Charles Dickens and the emotional trauma that comes with it in an age when there are some many A Christmas Carol adaptations.
I used to watch it with my dad growing up, it was his favorite and has also become mine. I watch it multiple times before Christmas and always watch it, no matter how late, on Christmas eve. A true classic!
It Happened on Fifth Avenue is a fun and heartwarming movie. It takes place shortly after WWII, when a “hobo” moves into a Fifth Avenue mansion while it’s owners are down south. He invites a veteran, who then invites his friends. The daughter of the owner shows up unexpectedly, but instead of ratting them out, she pretends not to be rich and tries to fit in as she falls in love with the veteran. Sweet and funny!
Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. Everyone knows the classic Christmas stop motion movies, and yet no one seems to remember Nestor or love him the way I did watching it on my grandmas VHS tape. Nestor is adorable.
The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant is hardly ever talked about, but it is a sweet Christmas story with lots of Christmas tropes- a hectic Christmas season, people putting wealth and status before servanthood, and, of course, a Christmas angel. I would love to see it remade today.
My favorite Christmas movie is "The Lion in Winter." That probably says something unfortunate about my mental health, but I love it. I love watching Hepburn & O'Toole's verbal sparring. I love watching the sons lash out at their parents and each other. The conniving, scheming, & squabbling, all with razor sharp wit is so so good
so so good. I was priviledged to work in a west end theatre when this was on stage over christmas. AMAZING!! Starring Robert Lindsay and Joanna Lumley back in 2012. The film is epic!!!
So glad to see the love for Klaus. It is such a BEAUTIFUL movie. To look at, to watch, the entire story is just wonderful. It never fails to make me cry.
Okay so I wrote the first comment before I saw the clips that they were playing for Klaus. I can confirm, that just the line "I get to see my friend" will make me sob too.
God, Annabelle's Wish had me in tears as a child. Would be the same today I bet. That movie felt so beautiful and sad at the same time. Also a well deserved number 1, Klaus is a masterpiece.
Annabelle's Wish is my favorite christmas movie. My spouse surprised me with a copy for christmas a few years back, and I still teared up after all these years :')
Putting Klaus #1 made me happy cause its my tradition now watch every Christmas season and hearing Jason Schwartzman voice makes my heart melt. He even said all the grunt noises they saved for the end cause he can loose his voice
If there is one Christmas special that deserved to be on this list, it's "A Muppet Family Christmas". It is a wonderful special where all the muppets - including Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock - comes together and celebrate Christmas. Sadly it has not gotten a proper DVD release, but it deserves it!
I love Klaus! The movie and animation felt so amazing and the characters are too! The story fell so fresh and original. I really love the film as well 😍 ALSO, I really love the song in the film 'Invisible'. It felt so beautiful It definitely deserves so much love
YESSSS!!!! I'm so happy to see that Annabelle's Wish is on this list because it's a forgotten childhood favorite. I rarely see anyone talk about it. I first watched it when I was in kindergarten, and it was a difficult movie for me to find since I couldn't remember the name of it. All I knew was that it had a sad yet happy ending and some of the best Randy Travis and Allison Krauss songs, it wasn't until I was in high school that I finally found it on DVD and I watch it every Christmas season with my family. I even bought the soundtrack. It may not be award worthy but it does deserve more attention because I can feel how much heart went into telling this story. I wish it at least played on TV or was on some kind of streaming service, but I'm just happy to know that there are people who still remember this sweet movie. Thank you WatchMojo for adding it to this list!! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
I saw it a few years ago as an adult and it is awesome! The music are all so good and filled with magic and wonder.Feel good Christmas films are one of the reasons why I adore Christmas!
So happy to see A Christmas Carol 2009 in here. It's been a staple for me every year. I love how close to it's original it is. And all the actors did such great work with the voice acting. And YES, KLAUS as #1 was the most deserved! It's absolutely magical and makes me cry and feel warm and fuzzy every year.
I watched it last year in honor of its 10th anniversary and because of the occasion, I made it the first Christmas film on my Christmas movie viewing marathon.
These are some of my favorite obscure Christmas films: Fitzwilly (1967) Period of Adjustment (1962) A Christmas Memory (1966) Home for the Holidays (1972)
I agree. The entire origin of Santa Claus was awesome. Maybe the most heartfelt version created. Once they jump to the current day the story just got too silly.
I have a copy of that movie! I thought that Dudley Moore was absolutely adorable as Patch the elf! Burgess Meredith made an excellent old elf! And John Lithgow really hammed it up as BZ the evil toy maker!
I'm so glad Arthur Christmas is on this list! I think it's such a fun way to look at the Santa mythos and I just love the way it handled its characters. Loved Klaus too, but I will admit Arthur Christmas is my favorite
Mrs. Santa Claus and Prancer used to b my favorites as a kid. I still have them and Annabel's Wish on VHS 📼. Jim Carrey's Ghost of Christmas Past is exactly like in the book, a spirited candle figure. White Christmas is a tradition in my family to watch when we're together.
Klaus is such a beautiful film! Gorgeous animation, lovely story and wonderful voice talent! I watched it for the first time last year and loved it! I was especially pleased to hear Norm Macdonald ❤
Such a holiday wonder! I finally found a dvd of the television screenplay last year….a now prized possession along with a copy of the book, which I received as a birthday present (Dec. 20!) a looooong time ago. Capote’s “ A Christmas Memory”…along with “The Thanksgiving Visitor” …..are my go-to holiday joys!
I'm glad you included "Holiday Inn" on this list. I've always liked it more than "White Christmas." It just has a sweeter story and is not as Hollywood as WC.
My own tradition come december is watching Christmas Movies/Specials with some cookies & eggnog. The first time I watched Klaus, I cried. Instantly feeling that Christmas Joy. It's become a must watch every year since
One of my favorite Christmas movies is a Bob Hope film from 1951 called The Lemon Drop Kid. It's really funny but you never see it on t.v. anymore. The classic song Silver Bells came from this movie.
Klaus has been a favorite Christmas movie for my husband and I since it came out. We watch it every year and it's my husband's (who is of viking decent) favorite design of Santa.
Klaus became my all-time favorite holiday movie. It's the one movie next to a boy called Christmas that I will never hesitate to watch multiple times. The storytelling, along with the animation, is gorgeous. It upsets me that they did not win an award, which needs to happen.
I love Mrs. Santa Claus! I saw it on TV when it first premiered. The broadway-style music is uplifting, and Angela Lansbury does a fantastic job. Thanks for giving this movie some love!
I love how MY big man JK Simmons plays Klaus first he played Tenzin from TLOK and then Ford Pines from Gravity Falls and here he is playing Klaus in this Film.
I remember Disney’s A Christmas Carol scared me in theaters. Only the death scene of Christmas Present and those two creepy adult kids but overall, great animation
Last Christmas is awful. It's a drama rather than the romcom it's claimed to be. The protagonist supposedly moved to the UK with her family after 1999 to escape a war that ended in 1995. We're supposed to believe that she works year-round in a shop that only sells Christmas decorations. The film is supposed to be feel-good but the twist towards the end is feel-bad.
Bill Forsyth's Comfort and Joy (1984), about a Scottish DJ recently dumped by his girlfriend going through an existential crisis during the Christmas season. It has one of the most heartwarming endings ever.
When I was a little girl, my go-to Christmas movies were always Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Barbie: A Christmas Carol and A Charlie Brown Christmas. As I got older, I would watch Christmas movies like Home Alone and Elf.
I love that you did this! Most of these movies that you have listed are ones that I feel like are necessary for me to watch every December leading up to Christmas.
One that definitely always ends up under the radar. An American Christmas Carol, a made for TV movie starring Henry Winkler as Ebenezer Scrooge. Another surprisingly good A Christmas Carol adaptation is Barbie's Christmas Carol.
My favorite lesser known classic is “We’re no angels” with Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray and Peter Ustinov. A recent one that surprised me and I like a lot now is “Fred Claus.” Finally there is “Get Santa,” which is difficult to find but very good too.
Little known Rankin/Bass offering "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" is, hands down, my favorite festive favorite. Hey! Maybe MsMojo could rank the Animated and stop motion Christmas specials. I'd love to see how they get ranked (You'd need to do a Top 20, though, I'm thinking. There are just too many good ones)
The Homecoming: A Christmas Story is underappreciated Christmas movie. We are first introduced to the Waltons in this movie. The actors who played the children go on to star as the children in the TV series.
The Homecoming, the pilot for The Walton's tv show is probably my favorite. A couple of years ago I saw Fred Claus for the first time. Both are very touching.
I highly recommend the book version. There’s an audio edition too, it’s very well produced and at about 2 hours long, just right for a long drive at the holidays. As is usually the case, the book version is a better story. You’ll find the characters are familiar, but more realistic, flawed, genuine and gritty. It’s a Depression Era story that seems much more genuine and much less Hollywood.
" A Child's Christmas in Wales" . A charming and lovely movie we watch each year. Set to the Dylan Thomas poem. Marvelous language and style. Also the made for TV "Scrooge" with George C Scott. Better than any other version.
I LOVED Annabelle's Wish! I used to watch it anytime of year. It's easy to dismiss because it was a straight to video movie, but it really is an underrated gem. I was just thinking about it and thought, "They better include it in this list!" And then it popped up! Thank you for including it!
I have been racking my brain trying to remember the name of A House Without a Christmas Tree & here it is. As a child, I remember watching the whole series. Thanks for this
One Christmas movie that me and my family loves but is not very well known is Fred Claus. If you haven't seen it, it's about an ordinary guy who's brother is Santa (or Nick).
Sort of sad to see my 2 faves didn't make the list. One magic Christmas always hits in the feels and the life and adventures of Santa claus(not the Rankin bass one!) is adorably heart warming. Yet most people don't know they exist.
I always love when Arthur gets a shoutout, it feels like it often gets forgotten. Also, anyone else a fan of the Patrick Stewart/Richard E Grant Christmas Carol? Admittedly it's a lot darker than the likes of the Muppets version
One that I just discovered this year is a beautifully shot, beautifully told, Finnish film about the origin of Santa called, "Christmas Story." It came out in 2007 and really made a splash in its native land and is just now becoming more well known in the US. You can find it streaming on various platforms and it is such a joy to watch. Filled with heart and Christmas spirit, it deserves to be thought of as a classic, right alongside many of the ones in this video.
I like to think that Richie Rich's Christmas Wish is also an underrated Christmas movie. Not only does it take a page from It's A Wonderful Life and work it into the world of Richie Rich, but it also pulls more from the 1980 cartoon show than the 1994 movie does. If you guys want to check it out for yourself, it's currently streaming on Disney Plus.
Idk who Ms. Mojo is but thanks for more hidden gem movies. Hidden gem movie lists like this always give me good suggestions for quality movies I hadn't seen before.
The Homecoming is one of those little known Christmas movies that is my personal favorite and the first I watch after It's a Wonderful Life. It's the first appearance of the Walton family and while the grandmother and children are the same actors as in the following series, the mother, father, grandfather, and general store owner are all played by other actors. It has a real sense of time and place and it is highly recommended. I would also recommend watching the Oscar-winning 1971 animated short, A Christmas Carol. This used to be a television staple growing up in the 1970s and has yet to be released on DVD or Blu-ray. Fortunately, you can find it on UA-cam. It runs under 25 minutes, contains the whole of the story and excellently directed and animated. It's also very dark and scary for younger viewers.
My autistic son watched this for 2 years straight then it was mickeys twice upon a Christmas for a further 2 years he is now 19 and still I would catch him watching it on Disney +
So glad The Man Who Invented Christmas is on this list. It's such a wonderful film! And Arthur Christmas is so underappreciated! And I've been watching Christmas in Connecticut since I was a kid. The 2009 Christmas Carol was better than I thought it would be, at least until it gets to the Ghost of Christmas Future, and then it goes off the rails, so it should have been ranked below The Man Who Invented Christmas.

Toy Story 4 sucks

"Klaus" really hits you in the feels. It's such a charming story about 🎅 with a traditional artstyle.....
IKR? Plus, it’s a 2D animated movie, which is unfortunately rarely seen nowadays.
@@SpacialRend7 True.
Indeed.
I loved Klaus the first time I saw it. And I instantly made it a must-watch for every Christmas Eve
Can you even buy it anywhere on Blu-ray/DVD, etc?
I absolutely ADORE The Man Who Invented Christmas. As someone who holds A Christmas Carol extremely close to my heart, the movie is just amazing!
It’s also refreshing to have A Christmas Carol film that focuses on the writing and development of the story by Charles Dickens and the emotional trauma that comes with it in an age when there are some many A Christmas Carol adaptations.
Better than Finding Neverland, in my opinion.

Klaus is the Christmas movie that needs to more love!❤️
Watching White Christmas every year is a tradition started with my mum when I was a kid. It's so special to me and I never miss our annual viewing.
I used to watch it with my dad growing up, it was his favorite and has also become mine. I watch it multiple times before Christmas and always watch it, no matter how late, on Christmas eve. A true classic!
It's been a Christmas Eve tradition for my family since I was a kid. It's a favourite of mine, to this day.
Yeah, we always start the holiday movies with White Christmas.

The daughter of the owner shows up unexpectedly, but instead of ratting them out, she pretends not to be rich and tries to fit in as she falls in love with the veteran. Sweet and funny!
Is the "hobo" Santa?
I really liked it but it is an older film so it had some outdated bits that took me aback. Still, a fun movie.
We already watched It Happened.. it is one of the first we watch every season❤
Klaus is an underrated classic and absolutely GORGEOUS! Another option that should've been here was Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.
Jingle Jangle was such a cute movie, I really enjoy watching it

Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. Everyone knows the classic Christmas stop motion movies, and yet no one seems to remember Nestor or love him the way I did watching it on my grandmas VHS tape. Nestor is adorable.
He’s on iTunes with ‘‘twas the night before Christmas. I watched it with my Grandfather every year until he passed.

I just watched this movie today and it’s definitely going to be in the yearly rotation for us for Christmastime 😊
one of my faves
there is a remake with denzel washington and whitney houston called the preachers wife
Stick with the original!
I watch this every year. I love this movie.
I agree with most of the choices, except White Christmas, it’s very well known holiday classic and often considered one of the best holiday films!!
My favorite Christmas movie is "The Lion in Winter." That probably says something unfortunate about my mental health, but I love it. I love watching Hepburn & O'Toole's verbal sparring. I love watching the sons lash out at their parents and each other. The conniving, scheming, & squabbling, all with razor sharp wit is so so good
I agree with your comment.
Awesome movie! It's the embodiment of the term Machiavellian.

The Homecoming, the pilot for The Walton's tv show is probably my favorite. A couple of years ago I saw Fred Claus for the first time. Both are very touching.
This is one I watch every year. It really got to me as a child, and made me a lifetime "The Waltons" fan!
Thanks for this
It will be cool if you guys did a top 10 underrated Christmas specials list
One Christmas movie that me and my family loves but is not very well known is Fred Claus. If you haven't seen it, it's about an ordinary guy who's brother is Santa (or Nick).
Angela Lansbury isn’t the only one, Klaus starred the late Norm Macdonald. Rest In Peace
Aw man, I remember watching Anabelle's Wish back in daycare. Even when I was that young I could tell it was cheesy, but in that fun late 90s way.
My family loves Christmas Bunny with Florence Henderson. We watch it every year because the story is so close to our life. It's so endearing.
The moment when Toy story 4 won the Oscar and it was not given to Klaus made me lose the faith on those awards completely.
I know Toy Story 4 was nothing more than a mindless cash grab while Klaus actually has heart and soul poured into it.
The same thing happened to the movie Wolfwalkers.
Spirited with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell is a crazy musical with lots of heart that at its core is a Christmas Carol part 2. 😊
1979’s Jack Frost. Frosty, Rudolph and Santa has a lot of love but not Jack Frost. He deserves recognition
Hell yeah!! Arthur Christmas is my favorite to watch during Christmas!!
Do you mean Arthur's Perfect Christmas?
Same
Idk who Ms. Mojo is but thanks for more hidden gem movies. Hidden gem movie lists like this always give me good suggestions for quality movies I hadn't seen before.
It happened on 5th avenue is another forgotten Christmas classic...
I say the most underrated animated Christmas film is definitely Dreamwork's Rise Of The Guardians.
The man who invented Christmas is a really good movie. It should be played more.
I have a good one for you, Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer. Same name of the Christmas song but it’s a fun nostalgia movie
Arthur Christmas and Klaus were SNUBBED by the Academy. Those two are my favorite christmas films.
Omg I LOVE Annabelle’s Wish!! Almost no one I’ve ever talked to has even heard of it. I watch it every Christmas Day 🥰🎄
The Homecoming is one of those little known Christmas movies that is my personal favorite and the first I watch after It's a Wonderful Life.
Klaus is a modern masterpiece and Annabelle’s Wish is a pure classic
You hit me in the nostalgia feels. I love Tom and Jerry: A Nutcracker Tale
I was glad to see "The Family Man" on this list. It always gets me in the feels!😂
One of my favorite Nic Cage movies.
I never seen the movie but the plot sounds similar to It's A Wonderful Life than A Christmas Carol.
Some of my favorites are: The Night they Saved Christmas, A Princess for Christmas, Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Clause and Mickey's Christmas Carol.
I love The Night They Saved Christmas! Super underrated and under appreciated.
Mickeys once a pon a Christmas will always be one of my favourites
My autistic son watched this for 2 years straight then it was mickeys twice upon a Christmas for a further 2 years he is now 19 and still I would catch him watching it on Disney +
@@tinarafferty62 🥺🥺 so cute I can’t
I loved Annabelle’s Wish growing up! I still watch it to this day
So glad The Man Who Invented Christmas is on this list.
LOVE The Man Who Invented Christmas. My favirite Christmas movie.
One of my annual favourites is "A Homecoming". It's the movie that triggered the start of the Walton's series. Perfectly charming and simple.
The Life & Adventures of Santa Clause. An underrated gem but it has Jim Cummings as the main lead
