Three songs that get me every time: Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth--Bing Crosby and David Bowie Christmas Eve Serajevo--Trans-Siberian Orchestra Do They Know it's Christmas--Band Aid
I'm in a gospel choir, and every festive season, we like to give a Christmas Carol Service to spread some good cheer to everyone. "O Holy Night" and "In the Bleak Midwinter" would definitely be my favourites. ♥️
In my hometown, our local Rotary club holds a charity carol festival every year in one of the city's most beautiful churches, right in the heart of downtown. For three straight days, all of these carols and then some can be heard ringing out from various choirs, ranging from young elementary school groups (and yes, I was once a part of one that performed) to senior choirs representing other churches. The largest group to perform was over 185 people strong! Last year, that festival raised over $20000 for the local food bank so that people could have Christmas dinners. In Regina, these carols mean so much more than simple tunes...
@@MsMojo Hark The Herald Angels, because I learnt it at school as a five year old, later singing on the staircase at home, because our late mother used put the Christmas tree in the hallway, with my younger brother, when he was old enough to sing. Also I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard, because it reminds me of being a young teenager, before all those awful school exams, that spoilt Christmas at school ( Christmas school dances ).
Bing Crosby is the voice of Christmas to me. It's never the holidays until I hear him - either White Christmas or his and David Bowie's Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth. What I REALLY want to see is a top 20 of punk rock & metal Christmas songs!
This top reminded me back when i was a kid, me and my school friends used to sing these carols every holiday season. And, speaking of carols, the one that melted me and my friends feelings is, was and will always be "Little Drummer Boy". Happy tuesday morning, Emely, take care and God bless you, and greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I have a lot of Christmas memories and I love them. My favorite one is hearing chewing and sleigh bells while asleep and I woke up at night seeing the Christmas tree and stockings full of gifts. I got my mom to wake up and we watched Christmas movies. I’ll never forget that my mom ate a big chocolate bar that is big as the size of a computer
My favorite is the Pentatonix version of Little Drummer Boy, because my dad passed away in 2018, and this was one of the songs he loved to play every single Christmas
Just a correction about "White Christmas": There IS an additional verse preceding the usual lead-off "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" that reflects the song's actual origin. Irving Berlin wrote the song (the usual story says he was in La Quinta, California--other versions say Palm Springs) in warm conditions--again, the story varies whether it was mid-summer or actually in December. The verse begins "The sun is shining, the grass is green" and ends with "But it's December twenty-fourth, and I'm longing to be up north" which then leads into the standard "I'm dreaming" verse. Crosby's first performance was a few weeks after Pearl Harbor on a Christmas Day special of his radio program but he didn't actually put the song on a recording until May of 1942. Even the film "Holiday Inn" was released in August of 1942 and the song would hit #1 on Billboard's chart at the end of October of 1942 (kind of foreshadowing the current tradition of seeing Christmas displays in stores even before Halloween is over, the song was literally the #1 song during the week of Halloween).
Thank you for including a couple of clips of Celtic woman's versions of some of these songs! I love Celtic woman so much! They are my all-time favorite group!
In Art Music (aka Classical Music), we have the Carols of John Rutter (like Shepherd's Pipe), Engelbert Humperdinck's operatic dramtiziation of Hansel and Gretel, Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, Baroque Pastorales (Including Corelli, Torelli, Manfredini, Locatelli, Schiassi, & Zavateri), Johann Pachelbel's Canon & Gigue, Emile Waldteufel's Skaters Waltz, Johann Strauss II' The Blue Danube, Eric Whitacre's Lux Aurumque, Works by Ralph Vaughan WIlliams (Fantasia on Christmas Caorls. & Fantasia on Greensleeves), works by Johannes Brahms (Chorale Prelude on Es ist Ein Ros entprsungen, a few Lullabies), Works by Benjaminm Britten (A Hymn to the Virgin, A Ceremony of Carols, Chorale after an old French Carol), Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve Suite (after Gogol), Works by Johann Sebastian Bach (Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude, Pastrorale in F Major for Organ, Christmas Oratorio, Sheep May Safely Graze, Sleepers Wake,) Georges Bizet's & Ernest Guiraud's Suites to L'arlesienne, Remo Giazotto's Adagio etc.
I actually think this could have been three lists Christmas hymns (or otherwise religious songs) Secular Christmas songs Holiday songs Not that I'm arguing with the choices. Three lists give the opportunity for more songs to be recognized. My tastes range from O Holy Night to C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S to Snoopy's Christmas to Mary, Did You Know? to Christmas Eve Sarajevo. For example, my personal favorite is Old City Bar by The Trans Siberian Orchestra. But I doubt it will make anyone's list except mine.
Over the years Christmas been celebrated in many ways, it's always been the songs that capture the true meaning of Christmas and remind me of why there is a special birthday that is celebrated around the world, 😊✌🧡🌎🎆
I missed "Let it snow, Let it snow,Let it snow", but my favorite Christmas song is "Merry Christmas everybody" by Slade with Mud's "Lonely this Christmas" as second best.
I love the version of White Christmas from the movie White Christmas, and Christmas Time is Here from The Charlie Brown Christmas Special, and O Holy Night, but I love this last song best when Josh Grobin sings it🎄
My all time favorite version of oh holy night would have to be assigned Yan’s version she does an awesome job with it it’s fantastic. I also love the hallelujah chorus which is great from handles Messiah
the little drummer boy is beautiful song and it's made me one tear in my eye and Silent Night is pretty song too and the choir in the church will sing that song
Silent Night was sung in English and German, by the WW1 troops who paused their fight, on the first Christmas of the trench warfare, to also play football in no man's land and have a tiny truce.
Great List MsMojo but may I suggest that you give a listen to Mary Did You Know? especially by Danny Gokey it will give you literal chills in the best way Merry Christmas ✨🎄✝️👼🏻✨
'Silent Night' is hands down the best. I don't care how much you love 'White Christmas'; it's irrelevant to the entire southern hemisphere, whereas 'Silent Night' is for everyone.
The most wonderful time of the year is now the jingle for an allergy medicine. I still feel unnerved when I hear the song in the summer, complete with people in shorts and lots of flora and fauna. Green hills do not go with that song.
I don't want to be that guy but there's a difference between Christmas songs and Winter songs. Songs like Frosty the Snowman⛄ or Winter Wonderland or Jingle Bells or Sliegh Ride never use the words Christmas and are about the beauty of the overall season.
Yesterday, while shoping, one of the stores played ""All I Want for Christmas is You" back to back by different artists, then a third version at another store , and a fourth version at another store, none of which were the Mariah Carey original. I like the song but have gotten sick of hearing it this year!
I'm surprised that " All I want for Christmas is you" is not even mentioned. I think this song is a classic even though it's not very old yet but I think it became a classic once the song came out.
A Heavy Christmas Message - Paul Revere & The Raiders" 1967 is not a well known Christmas song! yet, its short message said it all. "A Heavy Christmas Message" Now, you wouldn't take the bunny out Easter Or the witch out of Halloween And if they took away your turkey It would ruin your Thanksgiving scene Every year about this time I have a question It's a thought that's hung me up for many years Who took the Christ out of Christmas?

Question, in the song It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, why is "telling ghost stories" in a Christmas song?
@@marcusyates3044It refers to the Dickens story, A Christmas Carol.
Three songs that get me every time:
Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth--Bing Crosby and David Bowie
Christmas Eve Serajevo--Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Do They Know it's Christmas--Band Aid
Josh Groban's "Believe" from The Polar Express.

That's wonderful! Happy holidays to you 🥰
O Holy Night will always be my #1 holiday song. It instantly brings the chillbumps and makes me cry everytime. That and the song Ava Maria.

The thing with Christmas songs, is that we all have our favourite versions, and so we should, because our favourite versions are full of memories. 🎶🎄❤
Absolutely! What's your all-time favorite Christmas song and the memory it brings to mind?

My number one favorite thing about Christmas. The songs. I love movies around the holiday but it’s the songs that has me in love
Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! 16:55 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' from Meet Me In St. Louis (1944) is an amazing song to listen to.
I was asked to sing O Holy Night every year in church on Christmas eve, such a beautiful song.
There are so many Christmas songs out there, it's hard to put together a comprehensive list, but you guys nailed it. Well done.
They're all lovely. Thank you for sharing!
"White Christmas" is the best-selling song of all-time.
"Deck The Halls" though is my favorite classic Christmas song.
