I'll use the surgeon's knot the next time I need to make a knot. Never stop learning! I'm still sold on the Russian join. It has never failed me on my 100% cotton projects. I'll give this one a try.😄
Hi Roz, Thank you for sharing this new knot 🪢 I love learning new things that will help me learn and grow in crochet 🧶 Awww Snoopy is very adorable 😻 love his antics! Love your channel. Take care and God bless 🙏🏽🩷🥰🧶😻🐶
I learned how to make a square knot in Girl Scouts many many years ago. I have used this knot for many things. I will now add the surgeons knot in addition. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the demonstration. I'm a knitter and have always been too scared to try this knot. I can't bring myself to trust that it won't work loose over time. I'm a big fan of the spit splice as even on yarns that won't ply together it seems to work and, the fact that the join happens over a dozen or so stitches, gives me more confidence. For added security l make the first and last stitch in the splice with both the old and the news yarn. 😊
This is the knot I've always used, thank you for making a video on how to do it! It's so hard to explain to others when I'm asked, and you showed the steps so well! ❤️
Oh wow, thanks so much for sharing.... this is brilliant!!! just tried it and it worked great. the real test will be those slippery soft yarns... Absolutely doing this from now on. thanks :)
Yes, I will use it, especially since it is the same saying with just the added wrapping twice. Right over left, wrapping twice, left over right. Thank you for making crocheting so much easier!
I remembered this technique you demonstrated just in time to use it in my crochet book cover. I’m using yarn leftover from other projects and this was a lifesaver to join my pieces together. Thank you!!❤
Hello Roz... It's always nice to learn something new from you . I will definately try the surgeons knot . I also use the Russian knot and whenever possible i weave in the ends as needed be it knitting or crocheting . Thanks for sharing. As always love to you and the boys . Have a great week .
I get overly cautious about joins. I like to knot, then take tails and weave them into working yarn. Figure double the effort, but sure not to come undone, especially on garments or blankets. Thank you for showing this knot.❤
Same ! I love the fisherman’s knot but it can get quite bulky looking with certain yarns. But boy do I love it. I’ve never had any issues with it coming apart. . I love this one but have decided to keep the tails attached just to be sure. The smaller knot size is wonderful 🧶💕
Hi Roz I have used the square knot since I watched your video tutorial about it. I love it. It's been such a blessing. Especially when you get a skein of yarn that is "defective" I just put the border on my son-n-law's blanket. About every 11 inches the thread was frayed. I had to cut off the bad part. This was Caron One Pound and usually doesn't happen but it did. I had no choice it was the only skein I had left in this color. So, your square knot method saved me and I was able to finish his blanket yesterday and give it to him. Colder weather is arriving this week and he was thrilled. He got home and sent me three pictures last nighcovered up in his blanket, watching TV. He loved it. It was my own design. He's 6'2 and blankets are never long enough. I made it extra long for him. I will try this but I am sold on the square knot!! Thank you Roz. I always love your videos and look forward to them. Have a very blessed day!!😊❤❤❤
After watching different videos about knots, I have come back to the good old square knot. I have not seen the double wrap part. so I will try that. The key is starting with the right over left, then left over right. Otherwise it’ll come apart. And being a second guesser, I do keep a tail, and still weave my ends.. just me. I enjoy watching your videos and calm manner without a lot of extra chatter. Mainly because I am a visual learner and get distracted easily.. I have used many of your tips etc. And of course, love your cat’s interest. Mine are yarn tasters..😹 Gonna try your kitty patterns. Thank you
Right over Left, and Left over twice, makes the knot neat and tidy and nice! I've always made this knot that way. I don't think it makes a difference if the double twist comes first or second in the knot. But the rhyme helps me.
I don’t know how many times I’ve made a note and it came apart on me and I was frustrated. Thanks for showing me this tip. I’m gonna try to use it the next time I do something and I’m working on something right now so thank you love it.
I used the surgeon's knot to add cord to my mom's blinds so that she could reach them over her sink. Her blinds were heavy, and she always pulled her blinds all the way up so she could have a good view of the backyard. The knots never came apart.
Excellent instructions 👍 thank you 👍 making the knot is not that hard, but getting the knot to be in the place where it doesn't distort the stitch is a problem for me, every time I join the yarn it makes the stitch bulky, and sometimes it lands on the right side of the project, I just can't seem to get it to work right , I'm still trying to figure it out 🥴
Yes , it’s essentially the square knot with an added wrap for extra security. I’d recommend it if you like the square knot. 🧶 🪢. Thank you for the super thanks 😀❤️❤️❤️
Using this knot for ages. I can't even remember who told me about it. None has ever come undone, but i must confess im weaving in ends also. Im the one that says "beter be safe then sorry". 😂😂😂😂 Come to think of it i might have learned this knot in tatting.
@@PlayHookywithMe it is a really good knot I hope you get to reach out to many yarn/thread crafters. Just with the double magic circle, double seems to be the best option. 😘😂
I don't trust factory knots to have been done right and have been clipping them apart and using magic knot. I've used the extra wrap from surgeon's knot before but I'm not sure if i always followed the square knot rule. Will do so from now on, thank you!
😃 SNOOPY!! 💙😍!! New subber here, with a wee question; Are some knots better with particular yarns, than others? Popped into my head and had to ask! LOVE your channel!😊
Good question and yes ! Yarns that are softer or slippery have a tendency to bust open if you cut too close to the knot so it’s always a good idea to leave tails on each side . Cotton yarn has always held well for me (cutting close to the knot) but after doing all these experiments with knots , the only one that I cut near the knot now , is with the “magic knot” which is technically the fisherman’s knot . Sometime I will with the surgeons knot, but only if I’m keeping it for myself. Again , I only cut near the knot with with cotton yarns unless I use the magic knot. Everything holds true for me with that one . 🧶❤️
@@jennierollins8789 thank you , Jennie! I have more than I ever planned 😅 but they are such a pleasure. I’m away for 3 weeks in the UK (back in Nov) and I miss them so much ❤️❤️
I do know the magic knot and knots are often necessary, but they are hard. I haven't the patience to master the Russain join, partly because I am a casual crocheter and partly because I have trouble handling a needle and thread.
I'm paranoid about my knots; I always leave tails, then I pull a little after weaving them in to see if those are gonna come loose😂😂. I'm going to try this one though
It could potentially be felt or seen. I’d recommend not using it on light weight clothing or socks but that’s just a preference of mine to avoid in those instances. ❤️
I have been doing this for awhile now. I also noticed that a magic knot will come loose after pulling on it. I won't use a magic knot, even if it is in the skein.

@PlayHookywithMe in most situations, I'd prefer to at least fuse fibres, weave in ends, or duplicate stitch for the full seamless fantasy than have a knot, but I suppose it depends on the stitch and the level of obsession in the artist lol

A great knot I will definitely use. Great tip about leaving the ends on and working them in just in case. And greatest of all....a cat named Snoopy! 🥰

That’s a shame on the magic knot 💕
Confusing which direction to place the yarn ends. My brain doesn’t work that quickly
I would not use a knot in this instance. I carry the new yarn along three stitches, then weave in ends later.
I only use acrylic yarn and this knit came undone
Even with the tails attached?
To bad it leaves a large seeable knot in your work
Not necessarily 🧶
Surgeon knot is bulky. Russian knot is best for me.
