I honestly don't know how I thought I could crochet before I met you. I have been crocheting for 59 years and it was just ordinary. Then I found you and my crocheting has improved in leaps and bounds. It's great being able to go over some older vidoes to refresh my memory. You have given me a new enthusiasm for crochet and I will never stop. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Really happy to hear this! Although I'm sure you knew a LOT about crochet also before finding my channel but it's great there have been new things! 💗
My turns are very hit and miss!! They will now be much better. Hopefully, in future, my ribbing will begin and end with the same number of stitches.
@@Scotty3146 I know what you mean.
@@Scotty3146 Very often I have counted the stitches in ribbing on every row to make sure!
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable tip. Looking forward for more such tips from your end 🥰
Thank you. I've been crocheting for 4 decades and still learning new tips and techniques. Love what it does for ribbing!! I'll be doing that from now on. Thank you for sharing.
Great, thank you! True, there is always something new!
My grandma started teaching me to crochet when I was 8 or 9 years old, but she passed away before I turned 10 so she didn't really have time to teach me very much. All I really knew was the chain, slip stitch, single and double crochet and how to weave in my ends. Since I didn't yet have the skills to make a lot of very useful items, hadn't yet learned to read a pattern, had no one else in the family to teach me, and could not figure out from written instructions how to work new stitches like the half double and triple crochet, I lost interest fairly quickly. Then the internet happened, UA-cam was invented, and I recently discovered the crochet community.
So, here I am, more than 40 years later, spending entire afternoons watching wonderful, generous people like you crochet online, trying my best to imitate what you do, and feeling so proud of myself when I get it right! Sometimes, I feel like I'm 8 years old sitting on the couch with my grandma again.
Thank you so much for sharing your skills and knowledge with the rest of us!
Thank you so much for sharing! UA-cam certainly changed a lot about all kinds of crafts, making it easy for anyone to teach what they know and anyone to watch! Happy crocheting! 💗
Thank you! I’ve been crocheting for almost 30 years and love perfecting my craft. It’s fun learning new tips.
So true, can always learn to do something better!
Thank you Two great tips I never have seen the edges done that way before. Thank you ❤
Thanks for watching! 😊
Dear Tuula,
Thank you for sharing this stitch tutorial. I love all the tips and tricks I learn from you, my crochet is better for it.
Take care and stay safe and well. God’s blessings 🧶🙏🏼💗😻🦋🐶
Thank you so much! 💗
💜🙏🏽
Takes an already beautifully smooth edge. Achieves the impossible, and makes it the most perfect edge ever.
💗
Geez, I’d be happy with the “before” swatch! I’m a beginner, and, have been practicing, practicing, practicing, small swatches, getting better, slowly. I’m not giving up, certainly would welcome a break through in crochet. I appreciate your teaching
Thank you! Great that you have started to crochet 👍 True, it takes time in the beginning but keep going, every day it gets a bit easier!
Stitch markers are a godsend! Specially the safety pin looking ones, it's how I still do it crochet 30+yrs now ❤
I continually browse your videos finding more and more hints which improve my enjoyment of crochet . Thank you so much!
I'm so happy to hear that, thank you! 💗
Finally! I'm so happy I found you 🤗 you make everything easier than I thought, and I've been crocheting for 50 years. Thank you so much ❤️
Wonderful! Glad you found my channel! 💜
That is genius! I make a lot of small blankets and always had to finagle a smooth edge. This really ups my game!
Great, happy to hear!
Such a small adjustment for such a big effect - thanks!
I can't wait to try this out!!! I've been crocheting for nearly 20 years on and off, give or take andI have ALWAYS had a bumpy edge, NOW Hopefully with this technique I won't have to worry about this anymore!!!!
Wonderful!
Thank you! I'm struggling with learning a new craft while being a perfectionist. This helps a lot. My biggest problem still is having straight sides, without adding or missing stitches. I'll keep learning and try not to sweat the small mistakes.
Many people have problems is keeping the same number of stitches in the beginning. But it becomes automatic as you crochet more so just enjoy crocheting, even if you make mistakes! 💗
Hi Tuula. Thank You. Love from Ontario, Canada
Welcome!
Thanks so much Tuula…another great tip. My work will continue to improve with all your help…I’m so greatful …thanks again dear.
You are so welcome! 💗
i actually did this instinctually when i first started crochetting, nobody showed me, i had to learn to do chains and turn. i feel affirmed! i do like a neat crochet. :)
That is awesome!
Thank you very much for your wonderful tips. I crochet since almost 60 years and I never really learned it. Since I watch tutorials on UA-cam I learned a lot. 😊❤
Wonderful! True, we can learn so much on UA-cam! 😊
My jaw has dropped to the floor! It’s such a simple change with mind blowing results. I love it!
Glad you like it, you are right, it is a tiny change but a big impact!
Brilliant, no chain turn at completed end, chain at contiuning end....brilliant. I can see this improving my garment's look. Thank you.
Wonderful! 💜
Very helpful! I was never taught this - it looks so much nicer.
Glad it was helpful!
I been doing it all my life this way, and didn't know this was the right away, I didn't like the other way because it was easy to loose one stich on the corner when turning, thank you for showing it.
Great! Depends on the project in hand and even your yarn if it works best this way or with a chain. Neither is wrong!
That is so true! There is always more that we all can learn. I have been crocheting since the late 1960"s too, and I just learned a new way to achieve a smoother edge. Thanks so much for sharing this gem😍
Wonderful! Yes, there is no end to learning! 😊
Thank you. My Cardigans always have holes. Now I know what to do on my next one ❤
Wonderful!
I guess we are never too old to learn something new! Thank you!
You are so right, can always learn more, I know I find new tips all the time!

Thank you!
I know I have said this before. But man I wish we we’re neighbors!❤
You can move to Finland! 💜
@@TuulaMaaria I live in Florida, USA. We had cold weather last week and it was 10°C and I thought it was awful. 🤣 I doubt I could survive your winters!!💕
I need a neighbor like you I have no one to give me advise.
I learned to crochet as a child. But dident get serious until 2013 when I had to quit work and move in with my son .I worked ALL MY LIFE ,I WAS 80 YEARS WHEN I STOPED WORK BECAUSE OF HEALTH ISSUES.
SO I watch tutorial, and crochet. I have improved a lot ,but still would love to have someone to give advice
Thank you for this simple trick.
It's very helpful ❤❤
@@janedc5ch319 Great that you now have time to crochet, hope there is a group near your home that meets to crochet together!
That is how I turn my single crochet projects but I never thought to do it when doing ribbing. Thank You. 😊
Great!
I'm wanting to, after many years, get back in to crocheting again. This will help me start with better techniques from the start. Thank you very much! 🤗
Lovely, hope you get back to crochet and enjoy it! 💗
Another great tip, clearly shown. Thank you so much.
Great to hear, thank you!
Excellent Tuula, thank you 😍❣️🌟🌟🌟
💗💗
Thank you ! The gaps in the ribbing drove me crazy… I will do this from now on as crocheting hats is my preferred projects. I make a lot and donate to homeless shelters when I have over 50.
Wonderful! That's a lot of crocheting, 50 hats!!
Aha! I’m starting a sweater with single crochet edges. I’ll try this. :)
Great, do that!

💗💜
Greetings from Mumbai India. Thank you for this invaluable tip. Have been crocheting more than 40 years and always hated the sides of scarves/blankets but now i can get a smooth edge thanx to you.
Wonderful! So glad it was useful! Greetings from Ireland!
Immer wieder neue Tipps. Toll. Vielen Dank liebe Tuula.❤
Danke 💗
Somewhere along the line I managed to occasionally 'break' the turning chain rule and could get straight edges, but didn't have it firmly in mind to do consistently.
I shared this to a person in a Tapestry group where this is very important for neat work as the BEST VIDEO on the subject and saved it in my browser.
THANK YOU🌹
So glad, thank you so much! 💗 Happy crocheting!
Watching different channels it amazes how many different way people hold their yarn n needle lol
Oh yes! Have you seen my video about 10+ different ways? After releasing it people wrote in with even more different ways! ua-cam.com/video/mQOfQH4-nrM/v-deo.html
Yay🎉that’s an amazing trick! Gonna use over and over again!
Great! 💜
I am happy that you are doing this Video. This 1st one is how I've been doing mine ends.
I never like the whole chain 1 since it doesn't count as a stitch N you don't need it. One day i tried it N like it been doing for a few years now. Am far from an experiences Crocheter.
I am glad there's finally a Video so many beginners will see it now. I never saw a Video on where you don't really need to chain 1 at the end of every row.
Thanks for sharing this
True, you are almost always told to chain!
i love your simple explanation! thank you!
Thank you for this I knew there was a way to make it neater without chaining
Lovely!
Thanks for helpful guide to a smoother single crochet edge!
Ahhhhh! So much tidier. Love it! Thanks again for sharing this in an easy way to understand. You always are clear and uncluttered in your explanations, which I greatly appreciate.
Thank you so much! 😊
Great tip! I’m one of those who’s been crocheting for years and am continually amazed at how much more I can learn. Thanks for sharing. It looks so much neater!😊
Lovely, thank you!
I'm so impressed by Tuula's tips: thankful also !!!
So simple, yet what a difference! I love learning new things. I was thinking - but sometimes I want those holes for stitching into... and then you pointed it out. Ha! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Yes, this definitely is necessary in some projects, not in all! 😊
Great tip and explained and demonstrated very well.
Thank you so much!
Doctor Tuula, you help us fix everything !!
😁💜
Hi, I just found you & subscribed. Amazing difference. I have never ventured beyond scarves or afghans because of my edges. Can't wait to try this out . Thank you!
Lovely, thank you for subscribing! Hope you will like this tip when you try it!
@TuulaMaaria thank you for such detailed and thorough step-by-step explanations. Watching & listening to your videos has helped me learn so much! I’ve taken up crochet as a way to remember & honor my Nana & Grandma who were both amazing craftswomen, and you are helping me do work that I think they’d be proud of.💝
Thank you so much, happy to hear! Lovely to be thinking of your Nana and Grandma 💗
👏🏾👏🏾😘😘thank you Tuula!! I so appreciate your pro tips!!
Great to hear, thank you! 💗
Awesome tip!
Oh my gosh, I ❤ this so much! Thank you!
Great, thank you!
It's the same distance but instead of adding yarn you are adding half the distance by pulling on the previous stitch and half by stretching the next one. 50/50. Genius!
Got my sub, sis, can't wait to check out your other work. Thank you so much!
Yes, it works!
Excellent!!! Thank you so much for this, it helps a great deal.
I started crocheting about a month ago. I'm about to start doing more advanced pieces. This is a game changer! Your tutorial is very easy to understand and follow along. Thank you auntie!!

Thank you!
This way looks so much better! I cant wait to try out the ribbing especially.
Lovely!
I really appreciate the little details that make a big difference, like which way to turn the work. A lot of instructors - and instructions -don’t realize how much difference these little things make. I would not have thought of applying this technique to single crochet ribbing - thanks for that, too. And the tip about when to use it with ribbing, and when not to, just takes things to another level. I am amazed!
Thank you,I'm glad these tips sound useful! 💗
You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you.
