Leaf litter has proven to be very helpful for me. It gives the cleanup crew cover and holds the moisture in the soil. I mixed some into the substrate as well, it feeds the crew and the plants as it decomposes.
In my experience the reason the springtails disappeared is because they were just underneath all the decor. :D This is hands-down the best leopard gecko enclosure I’ve ever seen! Well done!
Aww thank you :) My next video is going to feature many more, and they're so cool, I have been very inspired :). Yes I think the springtails are hiding well :)
Springtails don’t typically do well in arid setups (except in the humid hide). If you add enough isos, mealworms, and superworms, they will breed on their own. You can do powder blue and orange scaber isos. They should be able to repopulate before he can eat them all. Also, add them when he’s sleeping, that should minimize casualties lol. That’s why bioactive is so great. Your pet not only gets a beautiful, clean naturalistic setup, but they also get added food enrichment.
Ah yeah, I think they're hanging out in the cooler side, but usually my geckos poop in the cooler side, so fingers crossed this works out, but if not I may try to add isopods. I've always heard meal worms and morio worms destroy the roots of plants.
our boi dug a drop toilet in his tank.... we have powder greys (there were a few oranges but I think he ate them) and spring tails and they weren't too quick at cleaning up, so scooped out the drop toilet after a couple of months. but since then it has been ok and actually Nic turned over the soil in the drop toilet last week so all good I assume. the greys have multiplied and I have no idea about the spring tails - they are in there somewhere. We also leave crickets in there for him to eat - two have become adults so we get some chirping. The crickets love the grass so expect it to be chomped and we have now replaced some it because it gets overwhelmed - there is one small snake plant which is great and a small ginger ficus which are now the long timers, I don't mind changing out the grass to be honest, I think Nic likes the changes in his tank. In my tank the dirt is deep and it gets about a litre of water every couple of days... it is actually quite hard to keep it hydrated to a sufficient level tbh. So watch that. I don't know how deep your soil is but if it is shallow perhaps it will be easier to monitor? I really give it a bump of water if it can see that there is a seriously dry layer on the top. It is quite a sandy soil mix I've done so that is usually a sign it is not 'hydrated' underneath. anyway... i hope i've said helps. Nic has been in his for coming up to five months and he has a perfect shed every time, and he never uses his 'humid hide' which makes sense because he would not have one in the wild. I do mist more frequently when he goes into the shed though. Don't worry about humidity - Nic's first tank was a constant 60% and it didn't bother him and he didn't get ill (just perfect shed - only one because he was then moved to new tank). it's more a case of if you get the heating right, everything will be fine. Gizmo is going to love his new set up - well done mum! :D
I just got my springtails yesterday and I accidentally got the temperate instead of arid ones but oh well, I'm sure they'll be fine. At least I didn't get tropical ones. But what I did is I put them in a critter carrier with earth mix, some ground up brewers yeast from human grade supplement tablets and added some dehydrated fruit scraps (banana and apple) and leaf litter. I read if you want to grow your colony it is best to keep them in smaller quarters at first so its easier for them to repopulate. I also mist them every day by picking up the leaf litter and spritzing on the earth. The cool thing is that it almost looks like they have made burrows because I can watch them right along the walls of the critter keeper. They are very active and actually quite big. I'm still waiting for my isopods to arrive. I think what I'm going to do is once the isopods arrive I'll move the springtails into the main tank and put the isopods in the critter keeper to do the same and establish their colony some more before putting them in such a large tank. This video did however remind me that I was also going to put some rice grains in with the springtails. Had forgotten that. I'm so glad I haven't put them in my main tank yet because after putting it all together yesterday and planting it, I decided I want to rip it all apart again because I'm not happy with it lol.
aw thank you :) that would be interesting but I feel they use their sight more than their nose, so I feel they'd give up unless they can see it to begin with lol

Hi in my geckos bioactive tanks I use springtails dwarf white isopods armadillum sp. morio worms and dubia roaches it seems like a lot but they feed on different types of waste. I’m pretty sure springtails aren’t enough to consume the waist because they seem to prefer more vegetable matter isopods decompose feces better hope I helped
Hi Rebecca, I have not had any success in keeping springtails alive in my Leopard Gecko vivs but the Giant Orange Isopods thrive, they mainly hang out in or under the damp hides and neither of my Leos like the taste of them so they are not snacked on. My Male Crestie however loved to hunt grey tropical woodlice and almost wiped them out. I switched, He does not eat the Orange ones so his viv is HEAVING with them!. It makes for a good supply to restock my other vivs if the numbers drop. His viv for whatever reason appears to be isopod heaven lol. :0)

@@leopardgeckotalk Yea we got it before Christmas my girlfriend and I agreed on that one because I love dinosaurs and she loves stars so it was perfect for us we love it. Thank you for your videos you have inspired me to get a Crested gecko I'm buying my bioactive setup tomorrow from my local reptile shop to set it up before I buy one and my girlfriend is getting a Hognose also going bioactive.

This video was very informative, the substrate is similar in some ways with the biodude. The two differences with the substrate by the biodude is if you mix the lower layers of the substrate and move it around it will make the surface dry while lower levels would be damp. The second is that he uses the bioshot which is a beneficial bacteria for the substrate. I'm curious what type of springtails did you get?
Looking good so far, I'd go ahead and trim the grass. I think more succulents and air plants would do well! Spider plants and pothos do well in lower light, mine are flourishing in Pubba's enclosure!
Hi I just wanted to say something my cousin is a breeder and runs dabs exotics . Awesome he has run the first reptile show in Wisconsin Green Bay there’s been two so far the last one was probably 1700 people that came in the Door it was double from the first one
I have an Exo terra low 20 gal vivarium for my leopard gecko, it is only 12 inches high itself, but I want to do a deep heat projector, there is a screen top, but will that affect the temperature in the tank?
Ive just moved mine to a medium low exo terra and it doesnt seem to effect the temperature. Just set it to what you require use a thermometer to record it and then adjust acorrdingly. Mines been holding steady throughout
I lay my DHP unit (it’s in a hood unit) on my screen. Away from the plastic , over slate pieces. Use a laser temp gun and set to 90 degrees and go. I have a low also.
I’ve been wanting to decorate my geckos cage and wanted to use face moss and some one please tell me if that safe for anything like that I can use if not
My leopard Gecko has been with me with for about 8 years, Ive gotten her when she was about 2 weeks old she had never had an issue with eating until now its been like 3 weeks and she hasn't ate I dont know if I should be concerned or not but her heat mat is set to be at 89* f her substrate is just regular paper and her tank temperature is at 90* f I don't know if its the temperature but I did change the temperature slight down.
She could be ovulating. It’s normal for females to go off of food during breeding season. As long as she isn’t losing a significant amount of weight I wouldn’t worry. I recommend switching to a soil substrate (such as reptisoil or organic top soil) for digging enrichment. Is your thermometer digital or analog?
Hey, you have prob seen me before but I wanted to ask about weight we got our crestie at 16 grams he is around 2 years old. Now we helped him gain a bit now he’s 20 but I feel that it’s too little, How much should he weight? And he won’t really eat anything I have to hand feed him
I've heard of people using mealworms and dubia roach nymphs as cuc. Do you think there is any point? Maybe to add a natural hunting element for the Leo.
You should not be dusting every feeding. It’s excessive, unnecessary, and can give your gecko too much. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding.
I'm still looking for some sedge grass. I couldn't find any locally so far and I'm not spending an arm and a leg on ebay. Urgh. I'm just over here envying your pretty sedge grass like 😬
If you haven’t already, separate them immediately! This is one of the many reasons why leopard geckos should never, ever be housed together. Take the injured one to an exotic vet ASAP, if possible.
It’s been a while my gecko seems better he is opening his eye now and it’s not red anymore also I don’t have a nother place to put the other gecko but I will try to get a new tank soon
Depressed Squid definitely get a second enclosure as soon as possible. There are plenty of cheap options: a large plastic tub, a secondhand tank from Craigslist, one from Petco’s $1 per gallon sale, etc. Each needs an enclosure equivalent to a 20 gallon long or bigger.
Is the leopard gecko starter kit from custom reptile habitats a good kit? Seems like you really like there tank but wondering if that full kit is worth the $$
It’d be best to use a deep heat projector or halogen for heating, connected to a dimming thermostat. If you want live plants you’ll need an LED light. Linear UVB is beneficial but not completely necessary.
i got my gecko yesterday and i only have calcium with d3. i ordered pure calcium and vitamins and they’ll be here this weekend. what should i do in the meantime?
Hi from Ontario Canada. As usual great video. This is where I want to go with my two Leo's so greatly appreciate these videos. If you have any information on feeding a blind gecko or a source I can go to it would be so appreciated. She's a rescue I named Pebbles.
Aw thank you :) I haven't had experience with a gecko like that, but I know the channel Jessica's Animal Friends specialises in leopard gecko's with disabilities, and she has one gecko who I believe is blind.
Quarantine on paper towel for the first six weeks. After, good solids include textured tile and non-adhesive shelf liner. It’s best to offer digging enrichment over six months with reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive mix. Half tile half soil is good as well.
I just got my baby gecko yesterday and he won’t eat! I know they have to get used to the new environment but how long will that take ? I don’t want him dying on me or anything :(
Could take a few days, or up to a few weeks. Just make sure everything is setup properly (with a hot spot of about 90F, measured by a digital thermometer) and keep handling to a minimum. Where’d you get him from?
CallMeNero ツ ok, for future reference please don’t buy animals from petsmart. They often have unhealthy animals and get their animals from mills. I’d take him to an exotic vet ASAP just to make sure he’s healthy. Do NOT get a night light. Any lights at night disrupt their day/night cycle. Petsmart employees are known to give out false information.
Fiona Shepley really ?! If I would’ve known that before I would’ve gotten one somewhere else , I really hope he isn’t sick , he still doesn’t eat , and he stays in his hide most of the time . It’s worrying me
Yeah, some geckos don’t like the taste of certain supplements. Try a different brand. Only dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding.
Thansk :) Some people put them in the fridge to slow them down. I did this once but they all died :( Remember you can also offer wax worm pupa to the geckos :)
I know this is off topic but my leopard gecko is almost three and has never had a “fat” tail. It’s not skinny but it’s not fat. I’m not sure what’s wrong with her. She eats fine she’s healthy (other than the tail) she’s not stressed she gets her vitamins. She eats every couple days and instead of dusting the insects in powder I have some in a bowl and she’ll go and lick it. She loves to climb on the back of the enclosure and is very active and curious little gecko. She doesn’t act strange or anything but it still worries me. I’m just not sure what to do or what’s wrong. Could you help?
You do not want the tail to be overly chunky. Many of the geckos you see online are actually overweight. As long as she’s eating a healthy diet and her tail doesn’t start shrinking quickly you don’t need to worry. Do not leave supplements in a bowl, she could easily overdose. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. At that age it’s best to feed every 3-4 days/twice a week.
Well you have to start weighing every day and see what is a normal weight for your leopard gecko it will go up and it will go down it all depends on the seasons say your leopard gecko is 75g in the winter and then 83 in the summer and the next winter it's about 70 G and then next summer it's 84 then you start to have an idea about what the normal weight for a leopard gecko hope this helped
Leopard Gecko He doesn’t look like that. I have been looking online, and I think he looks about right size. Going to be careful, though. He doesn’t have trouble getting around or anything.
He’s just stressed because of the move. Give him time to adjust and he’ll start eating soon. Make sure everything in his enclosure (temps, etc.) is correct
I'm getting a Leopard Gecko soon (preparing their set up right now) and was wondering if the heat mat and heat lamp gets left on all the time? I've heard many different things, so I just needed to be sure as I don't wanna hurt the poor guy 😅 My assumption was that the heat lamp is only on for the Gecko's 12 daylight hours and then the heat mat is only on for it's night time hours? Is this true? If you could lend me your advice that would be fab xx Thanks! x
She uses a deep heat projector, which doesn’t emit light and can be used 24/7. Light emitting lamps should not be used at night. The best option for a heat source would be a deep heat projector or halogen bulb (the latter can only be used during the day). Any heat source must be connected to a good thermostat, ideally a dimming one.

Close the doors to the room he escaped in. Slowly and carefully work your way back from where you lost him. They like to hide, and prefer small, dark, warm places. He's bound to be somewhere.

Me and my gecko are bonding right now. He is just look at everything! Acting like he can read! Haha!😂

CrazyGamingAspect omg nooo! I’m sooooooo sorry!!! I hope you do find him!!! Praying for your Gecko!

Aww thats so cute.
Sorry to hear that @crazygamingaspect Don't give up looking for it, it's bound to be somewhere in the room/house.

My crested gecko is extremely hyper do you have any tips to slow him down
I've tried plenty of things nothing works if you have a hyper crested gecko you just got to learn how to deal with it
I'm getting a lepord gecko soon I was wondering how many times I should dust there meals meals a week

These videos of hers explain it quite well

@@maisieboyland794 thx so much
You should not be dusting every feeding. It’s excessive, unnecessary, and can give your gecko too much. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding.
How can I travel with my leopard gecko
Great videos ! You shouldn’t be so shy !!
Do you use and isopods in your crested gecko tank?
Thank you :) and yes the blue ones and the giant orange ones :)
I'm still looking for some sedge grass. I couldn't find any locally so far and I'm not spending an arm and a leg on ebay. Urgh. I'm just over here envying your pretty sedge grass like 😬
Help my gecko just lunged at my other geckos eye and now it’s red and he is having difficulty opening it what should I do?
Seems like you really like there tank but wondering if that full kit is worth the $$
The kit contains a lot of great stuff, although it’d be much cheaper to buy everything separately.
If I go bioactive, should I include a UVB and a grow light? Also concerned about where to put a heat mat with all the dirt!
As long as there is only a thin layer of dirt over the heat mat it shouldn't be a problem
It’d be best to use a deep heat projector or halogen for heating, connected to a dimming thermostat. If you want live plants you’ll need an LED light. Linear UVB is beneficial but not completely necessary.
Hey! I recently got a leopard gecko and I'm super nervous considering this is my first gecko/reptile. Is it normal to be overly nervous..?
Completely.
100% :)
i got my gecko yesterday and i only have calcium with d3. i ordered pure calcium and vitamins and they’ll be here this weekend. what should i do in the meantime?
Dust with the calcium every other feeding. When you get the multivitamins dust with them every three feedings. You don’t need the pure calcium.
I have a leopard gecko to it name is Gigi
awww! my bby is called India
I love your tank it’s so cool Diego is so cute. Great vid btw ❤️:)
Thank you :D
I have a question about substrates. So I'm getting a leopard gecko soon and am having some trouble with what substrate to get. Any suggestions?
Fiona Shepley PetSmart , I was also told to get a nightlight but I seen videos that I shouldn’t that’s also another confusion
It’s worrying me
My gecko is sound asleep in my blanket while I watch this❤️😅
Aww that's so cute 😍
This ........ made my day
I have a weird question. Can you clip your leopard gecko's nails?
No.
@@fionashepley478 ok just wondered
My leopard gecko doesn’t like the taste of the vitamins I put on his food, is this common?
Yeah, some geckos don’t like the taste of certain supplements. Try a different brand. Only dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding.
Ive been wondering what else can wax worms eat and is there a way to slow down them turning into moths because i they do it so quick! Great video btw
Thansk :) Some people put them in the fridge to slow them down. I did this once but they all died :( Remember you can also offer wax worm pupa to the geckos :)
I love this video I have a bio active Leo tank to
Thank you! Aw awesome :D
Ok thank you very much
How do you tell if your leopard gecko is overweight or at a healthy weight? I can’t really tell with my Dusty.
It's hard to explain, sometimes you can tell by a photo, like when a gecko looks like it's about to burst and has an extremely wide tail and body.
Big Yoshi Good idea. He’s about a year and a half old. I need to start keeping track of his weight.
Hey I need help with my gecko I moved and now he’s not eating or won’t come out and I’m worried
I've heard many different things, so I just needed to be sure as I don't wanna hurt the poor guy 😅
My assumption was that the heat lamp is only on for the Gecko's 12 daylight hours and then the heat mat is only on for it's night time hours?
Is this true? If you could lend me your advice that would be fab xx
Thanks! x
I think she keeps the heat lamp on 24/7 and doesn't use a heat mat, the UV light comes on two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening
@@maisieboyland794 Thanks for the tip 😊
She uses a deep heat projector, which doesn’t emit light and can be used 24/7. Light emitting lamps should not be used at night. The best option for a heat source would be a deep heat projector or halogen bulb (the latter can only be used during the day). Any heat source must be connected to a good thermostat, ideally a dimming one.
@@fionashepley478 Thanks for the advice! xx
i uuummm i dont know what she meant when she said pop there clogs....what does it mean??
She probably meant unclogging the femoral pores of males when necessary.
What are the dimensions of your tank
3 x 2 x 2 ft :)
I have a question.... what age do Leo’s reach maturity? Like when are they full grown? Mines four months and I’m just curious :)
I think they're adults after they turn 1 year old
Thanks!
A year - year and a half. Ziggy took about a year and a half lol
Leopard Gecko ok, thank you!!
Does anyone have any ideas of how to help my leopard gecko eat. She’s a baby and won’t eat.🥺
Where’d you get her from? What’s the warm side surface temperature and is your thermometer digital or analog?
I just got a leopard gecko
Idk why but I can’t get over the fact that I’m watching this one hour later
haha how come?
Leopard Gecko o.m.g. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ACTUALLY CONNECTING TOO ONE OF MY FAV’S UA-camR!!!!!!!
ur like the only UA-camr who actually responds to their comments!!!!!! I started watching ur vids cuz I am going too get a Leopard gecko(hopefully)
And you made it easier to understand about leopard geckos unlike other youTubers I tried to find and that made sense!!!!
Anyways, I can’t get over it because in my mind I’m like saying, “ omg they were filming this while I was doing something else earlier”
That’s why I can’t even get over that!!

aww sweet :)
I forgot that you use celsius and not Fahrenheit and I saw 27° and was horrified. 😂
haha oops 🙈
can you use earth mix arid for a naturalistic set up for your gecko?
You should get a tortoise
Are you able to have a clean up crew with my crested gecko?
Yes.
Yeah, if it's not a bio active tank then you may need to provide decaying leaves, scraps, custodian food for them as well as your gecko poop lol
I have a old ish rescue gecko called noodle
His names is because he was thought to be a girl but he is a boy and has a noodle
Please help me, I don’t know how but my gecko got out and I can’t find him. Please help me.
Close the doors to the room he escaped in. Slowly and carefully work your way back from where you lost him. They like to hide, and prefer small, dark, warm places. He's bound to be somewhere.
Leopard Gecko I know, just anxiety. We put stuff around the house for him like water etc and we searched for hours, were waiting until it’s darker to look more so it’s able to be found. It’s just I don’t wanna lose him.
Why is my gecko jumping when i take im?
What type of gecko is it, leo or crestie
Also how long have you had , it ? It may not be used to you, do you handle it almost daily

Can u tell me if my mom could be alergic to leopard gecko's or no.... I know that cats and geckos are two diferent animals but.... I really want this cutie! Please....
It’s not possible to be allergic to leopard geckos. They don’t have fur, unlike cats and dogs.
Ur helping so much with the gecko im getting soon and u deserve to get to 1 mil. I would shout u out but i only have 13 subs 😬
