    What you said about the care guide is so true this is my at least 15th care guide and I’ve had one for two years. I like to just take the average of what they all say.

      @VixinatorsVideos 2 дні тому

      @@AriLuvzyt Yeahh, you would put sometimes multiple down per day if you worked in emergency. Even at a clinic it's harder because you'll sometimes have a patient for many years and also be the one to put them down. But you try to make it as peaceful and easy for the patient and their family as possible.

    I rescued a geiko about 6 mths ago. Its taken me a long time and lots of patience but he has finally started sitting in my hands and takes food from me too. I was wondering about how long before i try to pick him up without losing the the trust Ive finally gotten from him. The other owners never took any time and was hardly given a good diet. Hes made up for that lol.

    Question, im a new Leopard gecko momma, and I was told to purchase a carpet for them as they are just a wee baby, and that substrate isn't good for them at this age. But you just said the carpets could hurt them but not to use the substrate mix until 6 months of age, so now im concerned about the carpet in the enclosure and dont know what i should be using until my little one is big enough for the sub mix. 😢 i just ordered a bunch of the stuff you mentioned for their habitat and i love my little baby so i just want to make sure im doing everything i can to keep them happy safe and healthy while they are still growing. So any organic top soil will work? Is it okay if It has like veggie waste in it? What should i look for in the mix that wouldnt be safe? Im trying to make some substrate but i dont know what top soil to look for. I dont have the topsoil shown in the video or scotts topsoil

    • @Rosies.Reptiles
      @Rosies.Reptiles  Місяць тому +1

      i don’t have the topsoils i showed in my country… i prefer to use reptisoil! but if you want to use a topsoil you gotta make sure it’s fertilizer free, manure free, organic soil (which can be extremely hard to find :/ )

    I am the new owner of a 3 year old leopard gecko that was being rehomed. He was not getting the attention he needed. After watching your very educational video - I want to switch him from the sand mat to loose substrate. Do you think doing so will stress him out?? Or do they easily adjust. He is very shy but molting/growing. TIA

    • @cviiari
      @cviiari 9 днів тому

      they do pretty much easily adjust to new environments, but I wouldn’t take him out of his enclosure or handle him for a few day to let him adjust to the new environment . Also I suggest not to move him while he is shedding.

    The video could use some more insights.
    What kind of standard do you use to determine ethics?
    I would think productivity and behavior.
    Which can be achieved with a rack system.

    • @Rosies.Reptiles
      @Rosies.Reptiles  27 днів тому

      This is a wonderful question! I actually didn't cite my favourite article addressing this, it's "Arbitrary Husbandry Practices and Misconceptions" by Mendyk and Warwick located in the 2nd Edition book of "Health and Welfare of Captive Reptiles." This chapter uses evidence-based and scientific research on snakes to demonstrate the effect of rack systems on their overall health and well-being. This can be applied to geckos, like leopard geckos, as well! Rack systems do not allow individuals to provide proper and safe UVB which like I mention in the video they need for the metabolism of calcium. Rack systems do not allow for a deep enough substrate layer or climbing opportunities they require for enrichment.
      As the book chapter is pertaining to snakes, the argument about them not being able to fully stretch out, doesn't necessarily apply here but it definitely would in some cases.
      However, I do agree rack systems increase productivity for breeders, but are definitely not a long-term housing system for breeder geckos and babies. Long story short, I like to compare a rack system to making a human live in a closet for their entire life. Yes, you may be able to stimulate a proper day/night cycle through LEDs or your lighting of choice, however an individual would not receive adequate vitamin D from simply their diet. Moreover, the physiological and psychological effects of immobility can shorten a lifespan significantly.
      So to answer the question: What kind of standards do you use to determine ethics? Science and evidence-based practices is what I use to determine ethics. The UA-cam channel Reptiles and Research has wonderful insight on this topic as well, with videos entirely based on welfare and ethics!
