  • When I start talking to a patient about losing weight, very often they'll tell me "yeah I need to exercise more." When they say that, I know that what they really need is education. Don't get me wrong, exercise is great. It makes you healthier, both physically and mentally, but it's not the most important thing when it comes to weight loss. That prize goes to DIET.

What do you think about aspartame in Diet Coke?

I have a Diet Pepsi at least a few times a week. It’s not the healthiest thing to drink but I don’t think it’s as bad as some people say it is. It is very acidic and the aspartame does disrupt your gut microbiome and is also insulinogenic. So it has 0 calories but does spike your insulin which makes you gain weight.
Basically, I think it’s fine to have one every once in a while as long as you also drink a lot of clear water, preferably alkaline water with electrolytes added, and keep an overall healthy diet.
