Can you get into physician assistant (PA) school with a lower GPA? Yes. What is considered a "lower" GPA? I would say anything below a 3.3 is on the lower side when applying to such a competitive program. But it IS still possible to get in. Of course the lower your GPA, the more you will have to make up for it with other aspects of your application and/or you may need to do some work to get tha...

Reduce greasy fats! 😂 It's sad that his other doctors and surgeon (or the nurses) didn't go over all this upon discharge after surgery. As a nurse, I applaud your efforts and attention to detail. Depending on the urgent care facility, they can often see many less patients than an ED at a hospital, or even a general practice, so would have a bit more time to really TALK to the patients and draw out this necessary information. I'm considering NP programs and think an urgent care is probably an excellent place to work, and solidify skills - at least for communication, patient interaction, and learning how to connect the dots by a thorough history. I know some urgent care facilities are busier than others, however, but it is still usually a less hurried, high-acuity environment than a hospital ED (like I mentioned above) or even a private practice. Something as simple as loose stools after cholecystectomy can sadly be missed or blown off by many. Isn't this a case of the old adage - "when you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras" ? Thank you for taking your time to discuss this case experience. And it's good to know there are providers such as yourself who care. I happen to work with many who have seemed to forgotten the basics you describe. ❤

I guess I never even thought I could become a doctor until my clinical year where I got to rotate with med students/residents who would tell me they were impressed with the stuff I knew. But I have made peace by reminding myself that just because I could, doesn’t mean I should. I hope to be a mom one day and haven’t even dated in PA school so lord knows that probably wouldn’t happen in medical school either lol. That’s such a good attitude! Just because you can does not mean you should. Have you heard of Dr. Kevin Jubal? He started Med School Insiders. He graduated medical school and got into a plastic surgery residency, which is extremely competitive, and quit after one year to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. He has a video about how he made the choice and realized that his time is finite and he needs to commit it to where he thinks he can be most effective. The same can be said for wanting to have a family, build a business, etc. PA is definitely much more conducive to having a life outside of medicine, which is why I chose it, and it sounds like you agree.
