- Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) can finally be with Mr. Rochester (Michael Fassbender) now that his wife is gone.
What is Jane Eyre (2011) about?
When orphaned governess Jane Eyre (Mia Wasikowska) arrives at imposing Thornfield Hall, she’s intrigued by her brooding wealthy employer, Rochester (Michael Fassbender). His dark moods and the strange occurrences in the house lead her to discover a terrible secret that he had hoped to hide from her forever.

''I would recognise you in total darkness, were you mute and I deaf. I would recognise you in another lifetime entirely, in different bodies, different times. And I would love you in all of this, until the very last star in the sky burnt out into oblivion''.”
- Song of Achilles
I think it sums this up just perfectly.

😊❤
The way he inhales the scent of her hair like his life depended on it. Just...wow. Incredible scene and acting. ☺💓👏
Jane Eyre is NOT a rom-com!
You are so right! Not much comedy in Jane's previous life, is there? K.
No Bronte text is 'com' at all. Barely even 'rom'. They are dark, gothic, tragic love stories.
I guess so
They are focusing more on the rom than the com.
My first exact thought.
"Fairfax Rochester with nothing to say?" the way I bawled my eyes out when I read that part in the book
Is his first name Edward or Fairfax, then..? 🤔
@Mon Mothma his name is Edward Fairfax Rochester
@@andreaelizeth I know. I guess I was wondering why she didn't include the first name
@@monmothma3358It would be considered impolite for women to call the guy's name unless they're a couple or married back then.
@@maineclayton2419 These two are very close, and had been engaged to be married, but even if they had been formal (and she seems to be using formal wording to tease him): Why "Fairfax Rochester" and not "Mr Rochester" or "Edward Fairfax Rochester"?
That's what puzzles me. That she's using not one but his two last names. (And before anyone says so: I know it's a small thing🤣)
For me it is the best version of "Jane Eyre", Michael Fassbender und Mia are amazing.
This hand! Melts my heart everytime!!
YEEEES
SO TENDER
The best version ever….and the closest one to my heart
have you not seen the 2006 version?! that's the best
Michael Fassbender--oh my!💖💖💖
I agree,Oh my!!!
I love what I pick up years later after not seeing it for a while, both are wearing similar colours, but her is brighter, seemly worth more etc, so its full circle kinda, compared to his, which seems plain and does not want to cause attention.
Yes, her shawl and mittens are restrained, tasteful and of VERY good quality . She’s obviously allowed herself a step up in her dress. Pretty sure the shawl is Indian.
I find it amazing that almost all of the Jane Eyre versions have got the dog Pilot wrong, what they are showing is generally a cute doggie compared to what Bronte describes in the book (I think what's originally meant is a huge English Mastiff). Only the 2006 BBC version (the one starring Toby Stephens as Rochesters) gets it remotely right by having an Irish Wolfhound play Pilot. This dog is meant to be fearsome, not a nice little lapdog...
In the book Pilot is described as probably being a Great Dane, as the colors match with the description, however the breed of dog is not actually mentioned, a Great Dane fits best historically as they were hunting dogs in Yorkshire where Bronte lived and was used in the 1970 and the 1973 versions of the films. This dog is a probably a Golden retriever - Labrador, which could also be what Pilot is in the book as they are Gun dogs. But to be honest Pilot is whatever breed you imagine him as, as in the book he is only fearsome to Jane as the book is written in her perspective.
@@shawniechew Well, I always assumed that he was a mastiff because Charlotte Bronte knew that breed from her sister Emily owning one ("Keeper"). At any rate Pilot should not be a cute doggie (in the 1983 version he looked like a Border Collie!) so I thought the Irish Wolfhound in the 2006 version was quite appropriate.
Plus the 2006 version has Toby Stephens, which in my opinion makes it the best one.
Indeed. 2006 version is generally better than the other ones.
At uni we laughed about that dog thing. Such good memories.
Hmmm. He's come out of the fire looking a good deal better than he did in the book.
In general he looks a lot better than they describe edward looks wise than the book.
Should have watched the one with Orson Welles

This scene is a masterpiece ❤️
In the book, they meet in his house.
The whole movie is a masterpiece
truly, not enough people talk about jane eyre, and this movie in particular
One of my favorite 😍 love Michael Fassbender is one of the great actor out there..and the great Mia ...excellent movie
this is my favourite film version, just love it
Such an awesome brilliant book, my favorite ❤️
Mine too, for over fifty years. And yet Rochester treats her nearly as badly as the Rieds/Reids and the school!
This version is amazing, but I will always love the version with Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke the best. They are fantastic! Other versions pale in comparison (for me that is). I grew up with that version and cried so hard every time we watched it.
For me too!❤
The best version ever!!I totally agree with you
Same! I grew up watching it in one sitting every year with my mum. I think that one was great as being a series allowed it to cover the whole book. However, I feel like this film did a fantastic job in the time they had. The atmosphere and cinematography was spot on!
Without a doubt, that while some others are good, nothing compares to the 84 version with Dalton and Clark. Zelah Clark was the Jane epitome and Timothy Dalton, the perfect Rochester, as close to the book as possible to obtain in the world of mortals. My favorite and never can be exceeded. The 2006 version with Stephens may be a good movie for modern times but it was not Jane Eyre and I found too many parts just entirely inappropriate for the book. I even had the sense that Stephens had no concept of the character and perhaps had never read the book. Dalton's internalized Byronic hero character, got it and embodied Rochester. ... and Zelah, the overwhelmed but intelligent and strong and moral Jane was perfection. Wonderful!!!
Love it!!! Such a romantic movie
I love this version and the book is amazing.
The name of the book please
Pilot is such a good boi
A great story. Love it.
Absolutely my favorite book!!!
Lovely book and film !!! May be the best !!!
This movie is good. I wish it was more longer. Seems like everything happen so fast. Luv it still
One of my favorite books. Have read it many times. A masterpiece The film noir eith Orsen Wells and Joan Fontaine is a fabulous film also.
That was quite a scene!
The first non picture book I read at the age of nine. Still read it every now and then.
Timothy Dalton will always be my favourite mr Rochester.
Yes, Dalton is Rochester and Clarke is Jane.
Yes, Tim Dalton is the best Mr. Rochester for ever❤
Всё же Тимоти Далтон - Рочестер на все времена!!!)) После него другие тяжело воспринимаются.
For me ist the best Version of "Jane Eyre" 1983 with Zehla Clark and Timothy Dalton. For Always!
Quanto mi è piaciuta questa storia e questa Jene Aire...emozione pura.

Fassbeder is very good but noone surpasses Timothy's Dalton's performance
My favorite version of Jane eyre
I love this film❤
Lejos, mi pelicula y libro favorito. ❤️
Erm Jane Eyre is not a rom-com. Might as well call "Wuthering Heights" a rom-com as well and get it over with.
Wuthering Heights is the best rom com ever made 😂😂😂
@@tasi4372 Wuthering Heights is the original Rocky Horror. I mean, people foam at the mouth and set dogs on one another. So romantic.

I read another book that was extremely popular in the 1860’s It was St. Elmo, by Agusta Evans. This was the story of a little girl, raised by her Grandfather, near Chattanooga in the Cumberland Mountains. The Grandfather died and the little girl was on the train, going to an Orphanage which derailed, killing and injuring a lot of people.A kind woman took the child to her home and decided to raise the young girl. She had a Son about 19 years old who hated the child, and was rude and surly to the child. This book is all about how the young girl grew up to be a young woman, and even though the young man was older than the girl a lot older, this is the story of how he falls in love with her. It has many twists and turns and I read it one Summer when I got bored at my Grandmother’s house. Very Gothic setting, and it reminded me of the zbronte sisters books I often thought that this book would have made a great Movie!!!
Sólo las personas que aman saben que amar está más allá de todo lo que entendemos más allá de la razón y es extraordinario
Bellissimo
Going to tell my kids this was Jack Harlow and Emma Chamberlain
She looks like Greta Thunberg haha
Doesn't he looses a hand too?!
Yes you’re right, technically one hand had to be amputated and one of his eyes had been knocked out when the part of building fell on him.
@@beitheleaf8221 in this he has both of his hands...
mr darcy does not hold a candle to mr rochester
Both Mia and Michael are great as Jane and Rochester (yes, Michael is way too hot but who cares) I think the problem with this adaptation is the script, to capture the real depth of the characters in only two hours is impossible and they left out many key parts of the book (this being the ending of the movie felt too abrupt) .. This should have been a mini series at least, other than that, great cast, cinematography, and a beautiful score by Dario Marianelli
Think the 2007 version did this reunion better the shock and immediate recognition of Jane hit me deeper
Happy saturday💙👄❤☕☔🌈😘
Обожаю...❤❤❤❤
Where have you gone to Michael Fassbender?

His arms are intact 😅 in the book he was crippled

He probably went blind because of what he put in front of his eyes

Just as there are men who give up life for drugs or drink, there are good women who need to fall for low - life men who abuse and use them.
He didn't abuse or use her though. He's a flawed man but they had a deep bond and connection.
if she agreed to be super managed by an emotional bully, fine. there were very few men to choose from on the Manor and 2 or 3 women@@gee2541
But his hand was amputated in the novel
A pen pal a very very special person once was losing his hearing I love him. I also love another who drank and smoked all the time. I love him as well. Regardless none is dumb just special ..
Not a monster. Thank you..
Never give up. Just believe
Никто не заменит тех первых : Рочестера и Джейн...
😭😭
This remake movie is not better than the original, the original was fantastic with Orson Welles ..watched it 5 times already
She did a fun joke by coming to a blind man in the fields and silently grabbing him by the hand...if I were him, I would definitely freak out and use the stick for self protection.
He could hear her footsteps, and the dog wasn’t alarmed.
😂
💕💕
Why is Jane’s hair strawberry blond and not a chestnut brown? 🫤

Imagine kissing that Brillo pad of a beard. I would pass.
He is too handsome. If the George C. Scott version was done with someone less pretty as Suzanna YorK...
Rom com?????!!!!!
Compared to Vilette it is a bit of a rom-com in fairness
Nope this is purely a gothic love story 😂,
Or perhaps it’s a rom- com that leans more on the rom side and where the com comes from the fact that it is gothic
This was a masterpiece with the exception of the casting for Jane Eyre. The role was beyond the depth of Mia Wasikowska's acting abilities whose portrayals came across as immature, poorly chosen or incorrectly rehearsed. Her 'get out clause' when she's out of her depth is 'this is my interpretation of the character'.
Did we watch the same movie? Mia is my favorite Jane and I’ve seen every version. Nothing about her performance is “bad.”
Agree
💔💔😭🥲🥹
Самая неудачная экранизация романа
HAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Honestly I didn’t like their chemistry at all, not my favorite rendition
He left her when he don’t need her
Самая отвратительная экранизация этого фильма!!
His idea of love to his mentally challenged wife was to lock her away and cheat on her (rather than send her way ... what what, no 3rd choice? For better or for worse??) . When Jane came back to him, after his wife committed suicide, she should marry him, lock him up, and then take the missioary man down the aisle, without telling him of her shameful past. It is the same thing. This movie is messed up, brainwashing women and men on their relationship roles and ideas of "love". Jane was an idiot for ever going back. Evidentally, inept spouses should be locked away ... did she learn nothing??
True! I saw Jane Eyre the BBC Serie. It was much nicer Bit even there I thought why is she doing this? This man made his Wife a Prisoner and a dark Secret. Sometimes i thougt he mykenische made his Wife Insane. A narcacisst would do the Same. Also the triangulatuon with his neighbor Lady was just Uggh. Thats not what real love looks like. Thats what a narcacisst would do to his victims.
You have to remember that the actual story was written in 1847 when mentally ill people didn’t get much help.
I absolutely hated this version. The casting was just terrible.
@@rafiqadarr6217 We don't need to see their future married bliss. They were together, that's all that matters for THEM.
The worst adaption of Jane Eyre ever.
Haven’t watched this since the movie came out, and I’m choking up again. 🥹
Sorry but is this even a believable? I dont think so, cant be that easy. It cant be
Sorry, but the Ruth Wilson version is world’s better.
Rochester is awful and I hate Jane for doormatting herself. The whole book is tragic and boring.
The book did not aged well
Jane would've become a doormat if she married St. John Rivers. He had no love for her, and was only wanting to use her for his own purposes. Rochester was complex. He treated Jane with deception because he knew she would never consent to be with him if she knew the truth. Jane was the only woman he ever really loved, and he was also a victim of his father and older brother's deception with regard to Bertha. He was trapped, and made some very poor decisions because of it. He gains redemption in the end when he's at his lowest point. The tables are turned when Jane returns and has wealth of her own. She really becomes in charge of the relationship at that point. She's following both her head and her heart. They both end up happy.
This is classic literature that I believe HAS aged well. Charlotte Bronte actually was considered pretty bold in her feminist ideas at the time. It helps to read the book in the historical context from when the story takes place.
@@andreabarrett9110 honestly jane didn't need to marry with anyone anymore because she was a rich heires and wasn't alone in the world anymore . i have always wondered what would jane do if she had come back and Bertha was still alive ? Because she came back to Rochester without knowing what happend was she planning only to see him? Or did she overcome that moral struggle she had ?
Jane spent all of her early life essentially alone and unloved. Rochester was the first to love her, and she loved him. She was so excited when she found out that she was "half-cousins" with St. John, Diana and Mary. She hungered for love and family, and it was painful to her when St. John proposed because she knew he didn't love her. She didn't have to marry, but she still loved Rochester. When she heard him calling, she knew she needed to find out for herself what had happened to him. She had been seriously considering accepting St. John, and I believe if she had found Bertha still alive and/or Rochester indifferent, she would have gone back to marry St. John. Her earlier behavior in leaving Rochester, despite all of the difficulties she faced speaks to her resolve in upholding her moral convictions.
@@GitanAnimex the book was written in the 19th century. Perhaps read it through that prism instead of trying to impose a modern viewpoint on it. I have to wonder just how well many of this generation's woke ideologies will age 'well' or how many novels written today will still be discussed 200 years from now?
