@@provostparkpass You did an amazing job! If you'd allow me, I'd love to share a little fun fact about the Mansion. In the attic with Constance, there is a podium with a Guest Book that's laid out. Inside that book are the signatures of every Imagineer and CM who's ever worked on and in the mansion
My dad was one of the architects on the original ride at Disneyland, and I can confirm that Madame Leotta in the séance room is the same Leotta at the end. Neat lady who was a fellow imagineer and family friend. I can still remember my dad coming home and telling us about this incredible "stretching room" but as kids we couldn't quite conceptualize it. Also, can't confirm, but supposedly one of the singing ghost busts at the end is actually Walt's image.
No. It's Thurl Ravenscroft whom people are erroneously confusing for Walt Disney. It's the similar mustache & facial build they shared, methinks, which led to the confusion, as does the completely fabricated "Walt's cryogenically frozen head" myth, which is disproven by the factual confirmation of "Uncle Walt" being cremated & interred in a Disney family burial plot in the celebrity cemetery in Glendale, CA. with his wife Lillian, their daughter Sharon & her husband.
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh It could have been an early and extremely similar version of a "deepfake" projection software. It COULD be, however I guess we will never know.

its sad old folks enjoyed it so much better than today....it was astounding technology when it opened..
One of my favorite bits of trivia about this ride is that the ballroom guests are holding their dance partners opposite to the way they should be. This is because of the Pepper's Ghost effect. The mannequins are posed properly, but because of the reflection in the glass we see them backwards!
It honestly went past my head that the ghost bride is the same woman as the one in the beginning of the ride in the room with the stretching walls! And I've ridden this so many times!
Here's another secret that I learned when going on a guided tour of the attraction. (I worked at the Mexican restaurant in Frontierland and my group won an attendance contest.) During the holiday season, when the attraction is given its Nightmare Before Christmas makeover, a cymbal-playing monkey headstone is added to the pet cemetery. When they first gave the attraction said makeover, they placed a number of cymbal-playing monkey toys in the attic. Those toys weren't able to function as often as intended though, and eventually they all just up and died. So that headstone is a memorial to them.
Years ago when I was a young man I got a personal tour of the haunted mansion from a Disney engineer named Dean Huguenin. He worked his whole career at Disneyland. Anyway, the ballroom was my favorite part, and that was when I discovered how they made the ghosts. Your video brought back old memories of that tour. Thank you!
@@provostparkpass It's totally easy to recreate those omnimovers just by using a office chair with wheels, as you, and AManda found out the next year I(see "We Made Disneyland in our base\ment..!)
I went to Disneyland when I was 16 years old with my big sister, who was 24 at the time. We were so excited to see the Haunted Mansion. When we first entered, we were in a round room, and there was a man standing against the wall that we thought was a mannequin, so we were giggling and making fun of him; then he blinked and we about died of embarrassment! It sounds silly, but it is a fond memory of a time I spent with her. Little did we know at the time that a handful of years later she would be taken from us in a car accident. She was always so fun to be with, and I miss her terribly, 35 years since her accident. I’d love to see the Haunted Mansion again.
I turned 18 in the Summer of 1969, just in time to go to work at Disneyland as a Ride Operator in Frontierland Operations. I worked there until 1973. My last shift was memorable. In the Mansion, at that time, were the following work positions. Out front at the Main Gate to the Mansion where you tried to make sure no one came in eating or drinking. The next position was ticket taker. (Yes, you had to have an E ticket to get on the ride at that time). Next, was the person loading the Foyer (which becomes the Stretching Room). Next, two elevator operators, then one or two loaders depending on crowds, and one un-loader at the end of the attraction. There is a Ride Foreperson, who sits in an office just behind where the Doom Buggies enter to be loaded and one other, very important position, Utility. The Utility person stays in the dark shadows watching people. That was my position on my last day in June of '73. Primary duties were to make sure no one was trying to get in or out of the Doom Buggy, making sure couples were not getting too amorous (Walt liked a family park), and also making sure no one was smoking, particularly marijuana. In that position you had the freedom to walk the entire ride to make sure things were going as they were supposed to be going. You also carried a garage door opener-type of device that allowed you to stop the ride if anything dangerous was taking place. As I started down from the attic to the graveyard, the foreman came running to me from that area and wanted to know if I had seen him. I asked, "Who"? He said the man with the gun. He just shot the glass in the ballroom. I told him I didn't see or hear anything. We both turned and ran towards the exit to see if we could see the culprit but he was long gone by then. We were told that someone from the WD Studios came down and took photos and placed the spider, then traveled all the way to WDW in Florida to place the spider in the exact spot. I finally made it to WDW a few years ago (2009) and lo and behold, (drum roll...........) there is no spider at the Disney World Mansion! Either he got hungry and left or they told us a fib. Anyway, it was a great four years working there. It took me about ten years to get working there out of my system. Now days, you couldn't get me to go there. Politics and the PC crowd that runs the place have completely ruined it for me. Those of you who still attend, have fun and enjoy yourself. To each, their own.
They eventually got rid of the utility position by the time I worked NO/BC Attractions, and the rotation started at Unload, then Load 1, Load 2, ER 1, ER 2, Foyer, Tickets/Turnstile (after tickets were extinct), Front Gate if it was busy enough, then a break, then back to Unload. I remember on Party Nights or in summer, we’d fight to stay on the Foyer position (last position on those nights) to listen to Sarah Vaughan perform at The French Market. “Bump around me!” She was so amazing! Such good times!
I always think "oh, I know all about that" but then you always tell me something new! Great video about my favorite ride!! I think it's the most imaginative ride Disney has! 😱
I must have ridden this ride a hundred times as a kid but seeing your video just opened my eyes to all the secrets of it . I just found your channel by accident and now I'm hooked
Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination, HMM? And consider this dismaying observation! This chamber has NO WINDOWS and NO DOORS…which offers you this chilling challenge, TO FIND A WAY OUT! Of course, there’s always MY WAY
Loved this video! Your persistence with the camera lighting paid off! And I learned so much about it I didn’t know before. Another interesting fact is that while the stretching room in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion lowers the floor beneath you, Disney World’s Haunted Mansion raises the ceiling.
Was just there a few weeks ago with my elderly mother-in-law. She can hardly walk and what was interesting is that we were directed to stay on the ride and not exit in the usual location. Surprisingly at the end, we passed through a short tunnel and suddenly were back at the beginning of the ride. I expected it would take several minutes, not 20 seconds :)
My Husbandis also handicapped I wish they would keep the "show" going in that tunnel, it is a severe let down to go through a bunch of blank walls. Even if it were headstones , it would at least bring interest. The People I am thinking about most are the children that have to go through that tunnel. What a disappointing end.
My favorite fact (and it wasn’t covered in this video) is that the track for the doom buggies actually creates the outline of Goofy’s head. When you are going around Madame Leota, that is Goofy’s nose! Look up Haunted Mansion blueprints to see it. You’re welcome.
I love the mansion. I would absolutely love a house that looked like that and the interior as you walk is just amazing. I would love to see the woodwork and everything with the lights on.
Really amazing history behind this attraction. I never knew the ghosts at the end had names, thanks for pointing that out! I love The Haunted Mansion very much and this one is always on my bucket list of rides to go on. I hope to meet you one day and your videos really educate me super well.
Thank you so much for uploading this video about the secrets revealed about The Haunted Mansion which is a dark ride located at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL and Tokyo Disneyland in Tokyo, JP. 👏🏼 I miss traveling to Southern California with my family so much even though COVID-19 is becoming a problem re: our memories about the theme park that we enjoyed traveling to a lot as a trio of family members. 😭 Isn't that funny? Sally Slater was the tightrope walker that I dressed up as for Halloween 2023. She's my favorite character along with Constance Hatchaway the Black Widow Bride and the Duchess who's seen sitting on the swing drinking a cup of tea along with the Hatbox Ghost, of course.
Once again another great video, this time, on my all time favorite classic, the Haunted Mansion! You are a natural! Keep these videos coming & I will keep watching.
Wonderful video! The Haunted Mansion reminds me of all those wonderful Halloween's from the late 60's through the mid-70's...fun but always with a little bit of spookiness.
I love to take the Mark Twain in the evening during Halloweentime and seeing exactly what the ghost-hostess said Zero flying around in the room on top of the mansion!
True! And thank you for the correction 🙏🙏 and I'm glad it's one of the top comments now so people know the correct trivia 😊 You can blame the editor (me) for that mistake making the final cut 😊 During that take Chris forgot the other thing Paul Frees was known for so he bumbled out the Grinch comment confusing "Boris" Karloff before remembering it was the character "Boris" Badenov from Rocky and Bullwinkle that Paul did. 😂 I intended to make that a funny edit to show that mistake based on the Boris name (similar to the "glass plane" mistake) but obviously forgot.
I was just about to say that until I saw this comment. I think some of the confusion comes from the fact that Paul Frees played SEVERAL Christmas characters in all the Rankin/Bass specials.
I have a large lenticular poster of Rasputin. It is a Marc Davis unused concept piece for the haunted mansion from 1965. As you move by Rasputin's eyes get larger until they become one large eye, replacing his head. I love it, it's so weird.
Actually there's another Hidden Mickey in the foyer (the room you enter when first come in the building). Stand flush against the wall under the candleholders, look up, and you'll see them.
Super excited for the giveaway!!!! Also ur my favorite Disney youtuber with all your jokes and and just your personality!!! Have a wonderful day provost!!! :D
Here I thought I was a Haunted Mansion expert, but you always find amazing trivia I haven't learned before for my favorite rides! You guys are the best! Also, I loved the shots in front of the mansion facade right as the sun was setting - what a beautiful time to be in New Orleans Square with all those lanterns around.
OMG we are going to ride Haunted Mansion multiple times to truly appreciate all this amazing history. Thank You Provost team and Disney Cast Members. Knowing all these goodies makes this already wonderful ride SO much more Fabulous.
I am grateful that you guys do this work and show us all kinds of neat, unknown and special effects, memorabilia, stories and details, thank you very much.👻
Love the haunted mansion before, but now wow! Love it even more. Is that possible. Thank you for the great video and all the background. You are awesome!
You guys r the best! Disney’s lucky to have passionate fans like you Chris. It enriches the experience and gives a fuller meaning to the visits for sure.
This may have been said already, but the voice of Little Leota is actually Leota Toombs. Her daughter says she loves to go on the attraction and hear her mom"s voice at the end since her mom passed in 1991.
I had so much fun working in the Mansion (the one in Disneyland Paris), I was really into character. Imagine a very tall (1,93cm), skinny 19 years old dude with long hair wearing the suit, I would darken my eyes a bit to look sick/dead. I had a blast that summer. Frontierland was my home for 4 months. I do miss Disneyland since Covid
Fun tour with lots I never knew! Thanks. Oh... and if nobody has said it, and this is NOT a criticism, it was like having Spongebob Squarepants give me a tour! Love it!
Great video as always! At 5:58... Paul Frees was extremely talented and voiced a TON of wonderful characters, look him up on IMDB. He didn't, however, voice the Grinch. That was Boris Karloff, who also played the Frankenstein Monster.
Greetings Provost~!! The Haunted Mansion was owned by a man related to a member of the secret society, Society of Explorers and Adventurers (SEA) His name is George Hightower, the 5th husband of Constance Hatchaway His brother's name is Harrison Hightower III who owned the Hotel Hightower at Tokyo DL The HM isn't for Haunted Mansion, it's for Hightower Mansion.
EPIC !! HAUNTED MANSION is my Number One Favorite DARK RIDE !! Awesome job on this vlog. I learned things I never knew about H.M. !! Two months ago was my very First visit to DisneyLand. The HAUNTED NANSION was a FIRST RIDE to ride. While waiting in the Cue line. I got a Huge Laugh at the Cat Statue sitting in the Bird Bath !! Great Job on this one, THANK YOU !
Love the backstage knowledge! FYI: Paul Frees didn't do the Grinch...that was Boris Karloff. But Frees also did the Burgermeister Meisterburger in "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
Watching these videos and seeing the ride is the best flashbacks I've ever experienced! Total time trip! It still looks exactly the same as when I was a kid.
Hey Chris & Amanda, Little Leota @ end of ride is voiced by Leota Tombs Irvine❤ Her daughter is Kim Irvine, an imagineer like her parents! When Kim walked the park in the early mornings, it was pleasantly emotional to hear her Momma calling, "Hurry baaaaack, hurry baaaaaaack..."
Trivia on the original Haunted Mansion record album which was only available at Disney parks. Thurl Ravenscroft (the voice of Tony the Tiger) is story narrator. The story surrounded two young teens who venture into the Mansion. The young man is voiced by Ron Howard (post Andy Griffith Show/pre Happy Days). The story includes seeing the Haunted Hat Box Ghost who actually doesn't even appear on the ride because of technical problems.
Great video. One of my favorite Disney rides. Thank you for pointing out the hanging person in the stretching room. I could never see it. I also didn’t the Ghost Host.
Oh my gosh this is one of my favorite rides at Disneyland. I never rode in the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World. I'm super glad you had a great time riding the Haunted Mansion. XD
YEEEE IM HOME WHEN YOU POST!!❤️❤️❤️ And congrats on 40k 😊❤️❤️❤️ .2:15 did you purposely put that leaf I front of the baby so you wouldn’t get demonetized 😂
I can't believe you didn't mention the wedding ring outside in the pavement! As you go through the regular line, look down. Nearby a trash can, you can see a wedding ring embedded in the cement. The legend/story is that the bride threw the wedding ring from her place in the attic. It's one of the tiniest but most fun things to find!
@@richardperhai8292 It was originally a hole for the removable stanchions that had a coincidental rock embedded next to it. People online made so many fan stories about what if it was a wedding ring that Disney even took notice. When they extended the queue and added the interactive elements, Disney actually added a real wedding ring into the top of pavement around the area where the original was.
One of my favorite secrets about HM is about that door just to the right of the boot-scraping rack. It's locked, but no one has ever been able to open it. Check it out next time you're there and see why.
When you walk down the narrowing hallway after exiting the elevator, when you get to the busts, directly above where you're standing are the tracks for the Disneyland Railroad (which is actually halfway into the tunnel on the train). Also, when you're on the train, as you enter the tunnel (after leaving the NOS station), on the right side are creepy, lighted holes with exposed roots in the tunnel wall. That's actually the backside of the crypts you see while waiting in the HM queue line, on the hillside.
Wonderful video as usual, but oops: Boris Karloff provided the voice of the Grinch and Thurl Ravenscroft (also featured singing in the HM) sang his theme song.
My first Disneyland visit was Dec 1969. My mom's parents cousins family drove from Portland thru Death Valley. I still have memorabilia from that time. (might have some value to a Disney collector.)
A raven is larger then a crow and also have fluff on the back or their beaks. Ravens are more solitary but are usually part of a mated pair. Crows also have a mated pairs but often travel in flocks called murders. (Stuff ive learned since moving to the pacific northwest)
So, weird thing I noticed: during a trip two months ago, I actually met the ghost hosts he talked to during the multiple times I was in the line for Haunted Mansion. One of them helped my group with fast passes since we had a wheelchair in our group
That was awesome! Wow I didn’t know a lot of those facts especially about the bullet hole spider haha going there next week so I’ll have to check it out
My favorite part just before you get into the doom buggy’s, is that rain hallway. Just the rain and wind work for me. Especially since I’m from Vegas, so we don’t get rain often enough, especially to get rain and storms that bad.
Actually the singing busts are often mistaken for the Mellomen, mainly because Thurl Ravenscroft was indeed in that group. The others are session singers (as was Thurl) who likely sang together a lot, but not as the Mellomen. The other four are Jay Meyer, Verne Rowe, Bob Ebright and Chuck Schroeder. (Thurl sings bass, BTW, not baritone.) The real Mellomen, depending on the era, were Thurl, Bill Lee, Bob Hamlin, Bob Stevens, Bill Cole, Max Smith and Gene Merlino. These names came from Buddy Baker himself. Bonus trivia: the pipe organ soundtrack throughout most of the ride was played by Gaylord Carter, except for the Grand Hall scene, where the "Kooky Organ" played by Carter, with an overdub by William Zabranski and a couple of strategic edits made by Baker to lock it all together. He felt Carter's rendition wasn't quite "kooky" enough, so he had Zabranski come in and have some fun with it. The instrument used for all the organ parts was in a recording studio in Glendale, CA, only about three blocks from WED. It remained in use, mostly for a weekly religious program's pre-recording until the late '80s or early '90s. Sadly, the studio closed and the organ was split off and sold for parts. It's pipes are located now in about three different instruments around the country.

Actually there's another Hidden Mickey in the foyer (the room you enter when first come in the building). Stand flush against the wall under the candleholders, look up, and you'll see them.
Great videos. Live your vids. This video shows how much the quality of your vids have grown. Keep up the work.
Super excited for the giveaway!!!! Also ur my favorite Disney youtuber with all your jokes and and just your personality!!! Have a wonderful day provost!!! :D
Awesome video!! This is my favorite ride and you guys really did it justice!! Thank you!!
My favourite ride and one of your best videos! The effort and care that went into it really shows!!
OMG we are going to ride Haunted Mansion multiple times to truly appreciate all this amazing history. Thank You Provost team and Disney Cast Members. Knowing all these goodies makes this already wonderful ride SO much more Fabulous.
I am grateful that you guys do this work and show us all kinds of neat, unknown and special effects, memorabilia, stories and details, thank you very much.👻
This was amazing ! Well done! Thanks for all you do
Love the haunted mansion before, but now wow! Love it even more. Is that possible. Thank you for the great video and all the background. You are awesome!
You did a great job. This is the first video I have seen from you and I am definitely now a subscriber
You guys r the best! Disney’s lucky to have passionate fans like you Chris. It enriches the experience and gives a fuller meaning to the visits for sure.
My husband was born on August 9, 1969; Haunted Mansion’s 1st Birthday!! Such a cool birthday to share!
This may have been said already, but the voice of Little Leota is actually Leota Toombs. Her daughter says she loves to go on the attraction and hear her mom"s voice at the end since her mom passed in 1991.
Love! The music nerd in me loves y’all very much, however Thurl was a beautiful booming bass!
Love it!
That is the best comment EVER!!! ❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻
So freaking good love all of your videos!!!!!!!! And these cast members at Disneyland are magic!
This was the best!!!! Thanks so much!!! ❤
I love provost!!!! Best channel, team and family!
Great video as always! At 5:58... Paul Frees was extremely talented and voiced a TON of wonderful characters, look him up on IMDB. He didn't, however, voice the Grinch. That was Boris Karloff, who also played the Frankenstein Monster.
Correct sir though t r Is heard singing that wonderful grinch song:
“You’re a mean one, mister grinch/you really are a HEEL”.
@@SteveCarras Thurl Ravenscroft is the singer you're thinking of. He is one of the singing busts! Great voice!
@@avebeno Yes, I meant to mention Thurl Ravenscroft, RAVENscroft..
The leaf placement at 2:00 cracks me up!! 😆
So much hard work went into this video! 💚💙👻
Greetings Provost~!!
The Haunted Mansion was owned by a man related to a member of the secret society, Society of Explorers and Adventurers (SEA)
His name is George Hightower, the 5th husband of Constance Hatchaway
His brother's name is Harrison Hightower III who owned the Hotel Hightower at Tokyo DL
The HM isn't for Haunted Mansion, it's for Hightower Mansion.
Great bit of trivia Mad Hatter! 😊
I’m not always early
And I’m not always last
But when I see a Provost Park video
I click fast
same👍
Omg right after i woke up so happy thanks
The best disney vlogs out there !
Great video, this is my all-time favorite attraction, period.
I love how u changed the style of this video so much to celebrate the 50th. This is now my favorite video on this channel #thanksprovost
The Pepper’s Ghost effect is amazing and is my favorite effect.
Hey Chris & Amanda,
Little Leota @ end of ride is voiced by Leota Tombs Irvine❤ Her daughter is Kim Irvine, an imagineer like her parents!
I love your videos, your explanations are great and entertaining!!!!
This guy is Soo Enthusiastic! Love it!
Great job! I enjoyed it.
Thank you for all the hard work that all of you put into amazing videos like this! It’s so appreciated!
This video is actually so good, PERFECT
Oh my gosh this is one of my favorite rides at Disneyland. I never rode in the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World. I'm super glad you had a great time riding the Haunted Mansion. XD
You are my favorite vlog!!!! I love you guys!
YEEEE IM HOME WHEN YOU POST!!❤️❤️❤️ And congrats on 40k 😊❤️❤️❤️
.2:15 did you purposely put that leaf I front of the baby so you wouldn’t get demonetized 😂
Yes that’s very true but only at WDW not Disneyland. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@provostparkpass And it wasn't a ring. It was an old station hole. Guests made up that story
Thank you for entertaining us and giving us history we never knew about. Love watching your channel!
This has been my favorite ride at Disneyland my entire life! Brings up great memories :-)
Wonderful video as usual, but oops: Boris Karloff provided the voice of the Grinch and Thurl Ravenscroft (also featured singing in the HM) sang his theme song.
I love your videos! Such a great host and your knowledge is second to none. Have you worked for Disney before?
Loved this. So fun.
I can't believe they all ready have Christmas stuff out. This was my fav ride at Disneyland when we went a few years ago at Christmas!
Marlee is priceless! Great video as always, thank you
My first Disneyland visit was Dec 1969. My mom's parents cousins family drove from Portland thru Death Valley. I still have memorabilia from that time. (might have some value to a Disney collector.)
I literally squealed when I saw this video was uploaded. Awesome job on it and thanks for all the cool facts and secrets. : D
A raven is larger then a crow and also have fluff on the back or their beaks. Ravens are more solitary but are usually part of a mated pair. Crows also have a mated pairs but often travel in flocks called murders. (Stuff ive learned since moving to the pacific northwest)
And let's be honest...those huge ravens are just way creepier! 😱
This is my favorite ride, thank you for making this video!❤️
So, weird thing I noticed: during a trip two months ago, I actually met the ghost hosts he talked to during the multiple times I was in the line for Haunted Mansion. One of them helped my group with fast passes since we had a wheelchair in our group
Wow so many details I never knew !!!!! I can’t wait to go back and look for all these things
Oh!!! Top ten food/snack carts. Like which one are decorated the best!
Love and appreciate all the wonderful hard work you do!
Haunted! Great video, love HM! :)
Nice! 😎 thing with the hallway candles 🎂 is that they’re too far down 😝
