Please don't ever worry about the video being too long. I would absolutely sit through 6 hours of explanations for the other HM (and HM-adjacent) rides. Might need a mint julep to rehydrate halfway through, though.

A possible answer as to why the bell is recorded but the evil teddy is practical may be because the bell is hanging from wires while the teddy is static mounted on the back of the chair. Rigging the bell to both freely float and be stable enough to ring on cue may have been a puzzle the imagineers didn’t feel was worth the time to solve given their timeline and the amount of effects they had to complete.

There is one effect you didn't discuss from the Mansion, but it's easy to forget (as it's more paintings with yet another subtle shift in how they're done): in the ballroom, you didn't talk about the dueling ghosts and the turning-to-fire effect. There's so many painting effects in the Mansion!
You do great pieces on the Mansion and I enjoy 'em. As a long-time Mansion aficionado who's now no longer anywhere near one of the parks physically, I can still enjoy my favorite attraction from my own regions beyond. Thank you!

Genie+ is Iger’s genius idea to squeeze profit out of guests.
They put in a very tiny investment for computers and servers w/ only a little bit of cost to maintain the computers and guests pay their own phone bills to get the data.
The purchase of Genie+ is pure profit. The purchase of lightning lane tickets for specific attractions is also pure profits.
They make more on busy days because they use surge pricing just like Uber and Lyft.
It’s going to back fire tho.
Disney makes the majority of their profit off return guests.
First time guests make you a small portion of the number of guests. First time guests may come but it will truly be their “once in a life time trip”. They wont come back because it was too expensive.
Return guests just won’t come back. I have only been once since the masking and visiting rules were rescinded after the pandemic. My daughter is a cast member. I usually go once or twice a year to visit and 3 or 4 days at Disney was always part of our trip. Did we buy Genie+? Yes but never again. It cost me $60 bucks a day. Not worth it.
The only thing I found worth it was the $15 for Rise of the Resistance. I would have paid it again to ride the ride a second time. Going thru the room with the AT-ATs was amazing. My daughter was grinning ear to ear because she knew how I was going to react.
It should be noted that I saw Star Wars in Theater at 13.
I’m going to Orlando in a few weeks. We have no plans to go to Disney.
Oh and I am a member of the Disney Vacation Club so I could stay on property for close to nothing. I’m not. I’save it for a cruise or Adventures by Disney.

The camels in Frontierland aren’t on a timer. There is person inside.
If you notice, they sometimes aim for certain people, especially attractive young women. Also, people who voice that they hope they don’t get hit by the water.
How do I know? My daughter is a cast member and knows someone who worked there. She almost always gets the water aimed at her. I would expect that the camels have the option of putting them on a timer, this save Disney on staff cost but before the pandemic they had staff in the camels.

Glowing Orb: Dallin i hate to burst your bubble but you talked about a abandoned + haunted mansion holiday effect. The first effect with the glowing attic orb, that is no longer present for classic haunted mansion and is now only used during haunted mansion holiday as Zeros since he has a glowing nose as he is flying inside the attic. I see the orb every year during holiday

    • @STSGuitar16
      @STSGuitar16 9 місяців тому +1

There are maps of the ride layout if you google it, and they definitely are interesting to take a look at. Makes you realize how big of a ride it truly is! As far as the mansion facades themselves go, the only things located inside the actual mansion that you see are the stretching rooms. After the stretching rooms, you enter a much larger show building (which is hidden from view from the outside) that contains the ride itself.
At Disneyland, the stretching rooms are actually an elevator that brings you down to a lower level underground where the show building that contains the full ride is located. However, the stretching rooms at Magic Kingdom actually don't move you to a lower level at all and just have the ceiling moving up instead, after which you just enter a well-camouflaged show building that is very difficult to notice from the outside because of how hidden it is (they even use their own specific paint color called, "Go Away Green" to help hide the show building amongst the natural foliage, which makes it very hard to spot unless you know what to look for). The mansions that you see really aren't all that big; certainly not big enough to contain much of the attraction at all. Hope that helps!

I honestly had no idea that the eyes corner was a kinetic effect. I’ve rode past it thrice in my life, surely, one in recent memory. I’ve always assumed it was just… a wall. I commented on your video about Hatbox being in front of that effect and I expressed this apparently erroneous assumption.
By the way, I was fortunate enough to be on the Mansion, in the graveyard scene specifically, when it got stopped for whatever reason. It was down for a good five minutes.

I had just found the doom buggies website and was just completely enthralled by it, so I used it for an assignment as soon as I got the chance. I found people really liked it, it's amazing how simple most of the illusions when they're so convincing. But even after doing that, there were still things in this video that I didn't know or had totally forgotten about. I had no clue there were scrims in the graveyard scene! This was excellently done, I'd love to see more long videos. When will we get the 3 hour long history of the mint julep?

Great vid! I love how all the best illusions in all the Disney parks are all 100+ year old parlor tricks. Bet they were dirt cheap to implement as well, which is probably why they could jam pack the ride so full of them. Feels like a lot of newer attractions are a bit more barren, and it's probably because they spend so much money on a select few top-of-the-line highest-tech effects/animatronics, and leave the rest of the attraction neglected. (Looking at you Tiana & MRR...) Maybe if they went back to using these old school effects, they could fill new rides with more stuff and actually make an attraction that feels full of life again.

    Aloha Daylin,
I watched the whole thing and loved it...Graveyard sceen (because when I work at DL in the 70's we sneaked in after practicing for our yearly Canoe Race). We watched the morning start up in the Graveyard..it was so cool...and then got out of there.
    Thanks for your work

Sure would be nice to enjoy a mint julep while in a doom buggy, and have the ride experience extended technical difficulties in nearly any scene... Especially the seance room, because Madame Leota is awesome. (*call out for NOT wanting the ride to stop where the man and the dog are, because the sound of the whimpering dog is just too much and makes me sad.)
Keep the ghost lights up in your room year round! 👻

I’m so overly joyed, not only do we get more haunted mansion but the “can I light up” bit made me cackle as a fellow stoney.
Keep doing what your doing, I picked the right video right after an edible 😹

I'm in east Canada and I didn't expect I would want a Mint Julep so bad right now. The following Busts break my brain too! This is a great vid, super fun and interesting. I like the long and short content, and I'm happy with any content you've made!

Mint Julep, but also the reason why Walt was enamored with animatronic birds was because at the time, it was a engineering and technological first to be able to manufacture individual speakers that worked so well at the small enough size to use for a fake bird. And then cover it up with cashmere to approximate feathers. The imagineers had really pushed the envelope as far as audiophile technology goes. So it was them kind of celebrating like "Hey! this new marvel in technology is amazing! Lets use it in everything!". I guess a modern equivalent is how small we can make camera lenses now and how well they can take low light photos and just have it as part of our cell phones. But I'd actually be interested in a video about that bit of tech history so, there ya go.

This was the video that made me realize Madame Leota was voiced by Eleanor Audley because her line "Send us a message from somewhere beyond" sounded SO much like Maleficent

Thanks for this wonderful video. It wasn't too long.
2 things: We've always known Digger's dog's name to be "Bones.".
We've also always known that the man barricading his mosoleumbwith bricks was doing so to escape his nagging wife.
My favorite scene is probably the singing busts. We were stopped once right in front of it for about a minute, and I was able to film the entire song.
I was told that there is a window guests can see from the outside, at night, that shows a very dilapidated scene in an upper story window at Disneyland. When we were there, I thought they meant the outside frame of the window, and I couldn't spot it. Supposedly, the Imagineers put it in to give tribute to Sam McKim's original sketch and a weenie for what's really inside.

my dad worked at wdw back in the late 70s and said they would party at the mansion late at night and weird stuff would happen on the regular. so while its obviously a ride, there are for sure some actual supernatural things that go on late at night.

Mint Julep. Nice work. Isn’t the glowing ectoplasm orb still in the seance room at Anaheim, too? Also, one of the lowest tech illusions not listed, but impressive as anything else, are the painted backdrop flats used in the library and ballroom scenes that give the appearance of 3D surfaces - books, bookshelves, wall wood paneling, stair banisters, etc. They’re shocking to see up close.
