Please let me know what you do to PREPARE for a long-haul flight? I am always looking to learn and add some new stuff to my preparations! thanks for watching ❤ Watch Next 🎬 Must Have LONG FLIGHT Essentials! ua-cam.com/video/vkp-h5e6hXM/v-deo.html
I’m a flight attendant for a major airline and I can tell you that we really do appreciate gifts 😊 The usual ones are chocolate and Starbucks gift cards. Thanks for reminding me as I’m going to the UK in a week and need to get chocolates for the crew 😂
amanda and i give salt water taffy we get from bucc-ee's here in texas. we gave it to an air france crew in 2021 and they loved it. something different from chocolate. they even gave use a glass of Champagne as thanks even though we were sitting in coach. we do not need anything in return. juts our way of trying to brighten their day a little. we have yet to have a flight crew not like the taffy. they are so used to getting chocolate then out of the blue they get something different.
@@gloriamiller5515it varies on the type of aircraft and how many passengers. Generally anywhere from 6 to 14, or if you’re on the A380 or 747 quite a few more
I purchased a large (48 count) box of Ferrero Rocher for the flight crew on my flight to Frankfurt but am concerned TSA won't allow it. Do you know if this would be an issue (the wrappers, the filling)?
Also a big tip for everyone, Make list months in advance of anything you need to buy. And then buy it slowly, So by the time you get to your last two weeks before flying all you are doing is packing and organizing your things
We have certainly done that! Going to Europe in November-December and knowing it will be extremely cold out in the Christmas markets! Bought boots and I am looking pretty silly wearing them in July in So Cal😂! Bought our adapters too along with scarves and hand warmers for those cold nights drinking Gluwein!
@@gloriamiller5515 even if you forget things, can buy over there. I would not stress out before my trip. Make it simple, the most important are the passport, credit cards, bank card, and carry them all in a fanny pack across shoulders along with phone, and keep it always on your chest. That's your life when you're off on a long trip. When falling asleep on plane zip it inside your jacket.
Totally agree! It not only spreads out the cost but you feel excited and organised 🌈😎 My bag is packed and I don’t fly for another 5 weeks 😂 I have a countdown written on a post it note which gives me the get and go to work!
I pack the night before if I’m flying early or the morning I fly. Packing too early is a waste of time and energy. I also get last minute things the day before. I’m flying tomorrow and I haven’t even thought about packing yet & I know I need to buy some stuff that I’ve run out of since my last trip. I will pack before I go to bed. I will be travelling for 30 hours.
I finally did this for an upcoming flight. I bought essentials to make our trip basically self-sufficient while in the hotel. And I'm organizing all my personal products way in advance. Instead of making lists, like I used to do, every time I thought of something I would toss it in the box. I used to stay up half the night finishing up with the details and felt terrible. I will make some cookies and protein bars to take on the trip so I can have my healthy snacks. Yeah, I finally got it together this time. Feels good.
A trick for the dryness: a professional singer told me she brings a wet washcloth in a ziplock bag and periodically brings it out and breaths through it to get moist air.
brilliant. gonna do this. also can refresh it with cold water from an onboard water bottle, for a quick 'wake up' face wash after flying all night. 😁 *anything* to help appear less zombified for the early AM hotel arrival, lol.
My sister & her spouse are OG flight attendants so here’s a couple tips from them…If you’re going to take a sleep aid, wait until you’re in the air. You don’t wanna be impaired or waste ur meds for a pushback to gate or mechanical delay, or worse, disembark. As for a gift for the crew, give it to them towards the beginning of the flight when there’s an obvious lull in their start-of-flight- activities. Something they can enjoy during their shift. See’s chocolates are always a winner. You might get an extra drink or pillow 😉
When I can I do give gifts to the flight attendants but I don't wish or expect something in return. Their service to us passengers deserve acknowledgement.
Seating PRO-TIP: When traveling in pair and picking a seat and the configuration is 3 seats in a row, choose your seat close to the back of the plane and choose the AISLE and the WINDOW seat, leaving the middle seat empty. This will GREATLY increase your chances of having the entire row for you and your partner. IF the middle seat gets occupied, that person will definitely by happy move to the window or the aisle. Me and my wife do this all the time and it works great!
Thank you for this channel. I'm a recently retired 25-year flight attendant, and, without a doubt, we love little gifts or passengers recognizing us for a job well done. It definitely puts a pep in our step (and if able, it might also get the gift giver a little something extra)!
Lots of useful tips here. I had not heard the one about getting some exercise before the flight. It's going on my checklist. Useful tip about selecting an aisle seat in a 3-4-3 layout. The Chapter headings are clear and helpful. And thank you, oh thank you for not playing distracting music that competes with your voice when you're speaking.
Thank you for your great videos. I have had middle seats on almost all my flights, that I have booked. I am an older verticality challenged female and on the under weight and very flexible side. It really does not bother me. My late husband was more picky, but he used to fly for work and had to deal with injuries sustained when he was a child that caused him pain when confined for longer periods. I can also literally sleep anywhere and go from awake to sleep really quickly. Being patient and kind with others smooths the road for everyone. A kind word, or a Thank you can make anyone's day. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos.
Thanks for the video. I might add to your list compression socks. Those long hauls can be a killer and the last thing you need is to arrive ready for your vacation with swollen feet and ankles.
I prefer the aisle seat. I hit the bathroom a lot sometimes, and absolutely despise making people get up so I can go. I don’t mind moving for others though. I prefer the back of the plane because most people hate it, and try not to book those seats, so, often there’s a good chance of having, if not one seat free next to you, maybe the whole row to yourself. Plus, it’s close to the bathroom, so you usually don’t have the stewards and serving carts blocking the aisle between you and the loo when you really need it.
I always prefer an aisle seat near the bathroom for the same reason. I always tend to hit the bathroom quite often during a long flight, and having an aisle seat makes it easy to get there fast.
Tips: take a low dose aspirin before the flight to help ease blood flow. Pack some “disposable “ clothes. Old socks, underwear, Pjs, can be thrown away instead of taken home. Then you don’t have to pack dirty sticky socks in your luggage. You also end up with a lighter suitcase. On international trip, pack a bento box and pack your lunch/snacks everyday at breakfast. You will have more $ to spend on dinners!
Awesome tips! Thanks so much! I like the appreciation ideas. Flight attendants do work hard and deal with our nonsense for long hours. Definitely going to do this.
Leaving on a 10 hour flight to London in a few days. Thanks for the video. Have watched several and you are the first I have seen that said to start hydrating day or two before the flight not while on the flight. Drinking during the flight will help but you hydrate before not durning.
Hi, Here's a tip for you, Once on the plane set your watch to the time of destination and then follow your routine, so plan to sleep at the time you nomally would at your destination then you'll be awake in their day having slept in their night, this will help eliminate jet lag.
I travelled to Bermuda from the U.K. earlier this year in premium economy, the flight was only half full & I had the window seat & the aisle seat, but the arm rest between the 2 seats didn’t move up or down so couldn’t stretch out as much as those in economy with the line of 3 seats unoccupied!!! I took a box of Charbonnel & Walker chocolate truffles on for the flight crew………..they were delighted & served me first with drinks & food - they also went out of their way to stop & have a chat & make sure I had everything I needed - it was so lovely. Going to NZ in February to visit my daughter & have splashed out for business class on a night flight given that I am fairly ancient & need to rest my joints on a flat bed & get some sleep on a 30 flight with only 1 stop in Singapore 😱😱. I will make sure that I take the cabin crew some nice chocolates, but I’ll. red to take 2 boxes cos I think the crew changes at Singapore!!!
Nice job laying out prep maybe add final prep. Mine - I pack a small cosmetic bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, and light makeup (moisturizer, blush, lip gloss) and wake up an hour early so I can use the bathroom to freshen and look presentable upon arrival at my destination.
Myself and my son pack the day of the flight, carry-on only :) we both keep the basics all ready for trips so one just grabs the pouches and throws them in. Once you get few trips behind you and reduce you kit to the basics, its a simple prep. Determine what and how much clothing you will need depending on the weather and length of the trip factoring in potential of washing clothes there if longer then a week. Alos stick to basics and carry-on if you can. Makes it so much easier not to worry about checked in bags, less to carry, no pickup etc. We both have it down to small backpacks we can easily carry all day.
I have severe social anxiety so honestly the window seat is my favorite to minimize the people around me, but I will sit anywhere and everywhere as long as there's nobody around. Another thing about window seats is the view! I just can't get over it!
I am a senior , living in NZ and having travelled to Europe , Asia and US, I agree with your choice of seats. I am an aisle seat person. Even when I am travelling with my husband, I get to seat on the Aisle one. Regarding the last row, or sometimes a couple of rows from the last , that is the best seat as most of the time people avoid those seats and chances have been always on our favor, we get the whole row or a couple of rows by ourselves.
It seems to be changing with so many people flying. Even in October, my regular cost flights have been 100% full. I find it almost unbearable with the crowded airplane and the tinier seats.
@@thetravelcoaches It happened to me once on a NY-LA flight. Had all 4 seats to myself and slept like a baby. The flight attendants even gave me extra blankets.
Been a flight attendant for 25 years and it always gets the crew happy when passengers bring us chocolates 👍❤️ Not for the taste but the gesture of appreciation goes a long way 🙏.
Kudos for the great video! Great advice. Last year on our return flight, my husband and I had 2 of the middle section seats booked from Zurich to Philadelphia (isle and the one next to it). We were happy when we found out the other 2 seats weren’t booked so we had to whole row to ourselves. I figured it was my reward for having the middle seat (out of the 3) from Toronto to Amsterdam and the guy sitting by the window, whom I didn’t know from Adam, put his head on my shoulder! 😳 Luckily he realized what he’d done and quickly removed his head! Our trip this winter (St. Louis to Frankfurt and back) I have us in seats where there’s only two together so I can use the window to lean against and the husband has the isle for leg room.
I have never been on a long-haul flight but I’m planning a trip for next year and videos like these are super helpful for me to get an idea on how I can best prepare for my flight
I’m preparing for my first ever international trip. It isn’t super long. 3 hours to Atlanta, 2.5hr layover, then 7ish hours to Lima, Peru. Thanks for the tips and all your videos
As a nurse- I research the best hospitals in the area and how close they are from the hotel that I will stay in. Here at work, I 've seen patients tell me horror stories of hospitals they've been in abroad .. ie gall bladder or appendicitis attacks. Need to know where and how to get best medical care while abroad.
I have traveled to AUSTRALIA 4 times, although not recently. I find QANTAS Airlines the absolute best airlines in the world. The longest trip of the four was a San Francisco to Sydney non-stop flight. Luckily I had a window seat about 2 or 3 rows from the rear of the cabin. At that location, it was only 2 across ( window + aisle ) because the aircraft tapered there was not enough space for the middle seat. As you mentioned in the video, sleeping against the wall made for a pretty sound sleep. Plus there was plenty of space and the rest rooms were only a few steps away. I really enjoyed all your videos - Thanks.
As someone who doesn’t get up much during a flight, I always go for window so I am not bothered by others. I’m also fairly average height so the restriction doesn’t bother me so much. When I do get up I try to stay up for a while so I can stretch my legs and thus don’t need to get up as regularly to exercise, limiting how much I bother my friend on the aisle
Good video. Thanks. My secret to long haul flights is: Don't. I prefer to fly during the daytime, even if I have to get up at 3:00 AM to catch a 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM departure. Then I break up the flight in the middle by making an overnight layover in a hotel and sleeping in a real bed. Repeat the next morning to continue on to the final destination. Ha ha. Takes longer. Costs more. NO jet lag. I feel fresh and alive at the destination and fresh and alive when I return home. PS: I also pick my seats in advance. Very important to me. I even calculate which side of the plane will be shady.
I would definitely break up the flights. It can be much cheaper that way, too! I flew to India; East coast to LA; stayed one night; did some sightseeing next day; night flight to China, plane change, snacks, walking around airport; flight to Kuala Lumpur and a night at a Luxury Hotel; nice dinner buffet and massage; next day, afternoon flight to the India mainland; two nights in a beach resort on the East coast of India (cheap laundry services available) before a train ride to our final destination that was South central. I always do stretches in the airport. Have been known to do headstands near the windows or a wall. Gets some attention! I stretch mid-flight, especially if the flight attendants allow hanging by the bathrooms. Some airlines, like Southwest don’t allow that but they’re shorter flights, anyway.
As an experienced traveler, I always take an aspirin, or ibuprofen before a flight. Also, compression socks, both to help Blood flow and not clot. Also no caffeine, especially do not drink coffee or tea from an airplane, the water source is scary!
I always book my flights around 6 months in advance. My flights always tend to be overnight. I always get up and move about on long flights. I have never had any issues with swelling. I am really looking forward to my flight that is coming up to the UK and Paris. On my flight last year, the attendant was so cool. He gave me free booze, LOL. Mind you, I did make sure to drink a lot of water.
I am flying from Canada to Singapore and then onto Philippines. I have printed ALLl of our documents and will keep them in my backpack. I also have purchased a four pack of Tile Pro. I am bring Canadian maple syrup as a gift for my wives boss in Singapore. Your videos are absolutely awesome. Keep it up because I don't know how you only have 8K subscribers.❤
I am also bringing some maple syrup for some friends in Indonesia. I don't think they have ever had real maple syrup before. Flying Dallas, TX to Bali via Qatar in a week. This will be my longest flight ever.
I live in NZ and it's two long haul flights to the UK. One time I had massage at Changi airport and they massaged my stomach. I felt so much better on the next flight, less bloated and tight etc.
Getting ready for a flight to Paris in the fall (from Seattle) and appreciate your tips. I try to write the alphabet with the tip of each foot to combat edema, and wear compression hose. We’ll be on the Airbus 330 which has a 2-4-2 configuration so works out really well.
Thank you guys for your insightful video, although I have done many long hauls from Europe to NZ it is always a learning curve, with your video and especially the tips using the days before traveling to rest and hydrate , one could easily not think about that, keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more videos from you soon
I prefer aisle seats because usually the armrest comes up. That allows me to move around in my seat, stretch my legs, move out of my own way to get my personal item, etc. Plus it just gives me more room! I do the stretches at the time of the bathroom runs, as well. Another thing I do at bathroom runs, I wipe down the sink and counter to make it a cleaner and more pleasant experience for me and for others. I never thought about a gift for the flight attendants…. What do you suggest? Also, NOTE TO ALL AIRLINES, Please give us something to drink throughout the flight. A full size bottle of water to start with is fabulous!
I’m an aisle sitter. I survived a plane crash and now need to stretch and move more often. So the aisle is better for me. I also can feel a bit claustrophobic in interior seats.
My biggest tip is besides the neck pillow and eye mask, bring some baby wipes for the long flights. You will definitely feel better if you're fresh down there.
Great tips. I like the idea of stretching prior and if possible during the flight. But as for choosing seats, why not check in 24 hrs prior (or whenever the online check in opens)? During that time you can select your seat for free.
Another great video. I always smile and am very polite to the flight attendants but never thought of bringing them a gift. Flying to Miami in two weeks and then to Munich in September. I'll pick up a couple Starbuck gift cards for the flight. Since I'm taking 4 of my grandkids on the flight to Miami, I'll probably need two gift cards, the attendant will earn it.
What a wonderful idea! This makes me really happy and it sets me up for feeling very positive for my international flight. What a great feeling to surprise him or her. 💌
About brushing teeth - should people avoid the water from the tap in the lavatory, even if they’re careful not to swallow any? I bring my water bottle in with me to use when brushing my teeth.
I prefer window seats on long-haul flights. The aisle seats are less claustrophobic but people tend to bump in to you when they're walking to the restroom. I find this very annoying when trying to sleep. I never choose a seat by the restroom as you will have to deal with people going in and out and the smell is bad.
I eat very lightly the day before, and my last meal is just a bit of boiled rice with chicken broth. This will help you to get through the entire 14 hour flight without needing to have a bowel movement in the nasty airplane restroom. I try to hold off doing that until I am safely checked into my hotel and have that privacy.
I have a bowl disease so I pick the aisle seat, travel overnight and eat a basic diet a few days before. I also pack ibs safe snacks. I also take old socks, pj's and t shirts and throw them away for the return flight. A Buff is great for so many things.
I also leave a copy of my documents, full itinerary with contact details etc with my parents as a triple backup. It can also be reassuring for them as well if a disaster happens in the area where you are visiting.
I have a bag inside my backpack, headphones, xreal goggles, battery backup, 2 sets of noise canceling samsung ear buds, a spare phone to plug into my xreal glasses, candy for snacks, blow up neck pillow.....This smaller bag fits under the seat better than my backpack and gives me a lot more foot room. Also long 14+ hour flights its good to have compression socks. Also asian airlines are 5 warmer inside. Most asian countries are hot so they keep the temps inside warmer than trips to europe.
Not sure where you were flying to in such an empty plane, but I had to laugh. I am 68 years old and have traveled overseas numerous times. In fact, I moved from the US to central Europe 10 years ago. I usually go back once a year to the States. I usually fly Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I have never ever seen an almost empty flight! That is why I had to laugh. I do pick my seat, which is an aisle seat for me. Because I am older, my legs hurt and swell from sitting so long and I need to get up often. Also hilarious is that you"forgot to eat". I never get that disoriented time wise!😂 Also, I have never had an issue from the dryness. I always see that mentioned on videos like this but I have never understood them as I don’t have that problem and I drink alcohol and coffee during my long haul flights.🍷☕️
Great video. We are going on our first long haul flight from Newark to Paris in September and I found several things to prep for that I hadn't thought about.
My husband and I both like aisle seats so we just book across the aisle from one another. Near enough to communicate and easy yo get up and move. Also we walk a lot when waiting for our flights instead of just seating and reading or people watching.
DO NOT pick seats in front of the bathrooms, especially an aisle seat. You end up being bump into constantly by people leaving the bathroom or waiting in line to use the bathroom. My last 20+ hour flight back from the Philippines 🇵🇭 I had to deal with that.
Absolutely the worst ia actually the first row middle seats in wide body aircrafts. People just walk through your row to get to the washroom. Three times people stepped on my feet on a night flight with Emirates. It was a horrible experience! On some aircrafts there are only two seats next to the emergency exit and hence in the row behind, the window seat has no seat in front. Nobody bothers you and you can get out any time without bothering others. Only big negative at emergency exits: it is mostly freezing cold!
I always choos isle seats as I use the restroom often. 2nd would be window seats but only if the flight is less than 2 hours, there is no one in the middle seat, or the whole row is empty :D
While I do prefer the isle seat, that's not as important to me as making sure I get the exit row. I am 6"5 so I NEED the extra legroom or I'm in incredible pain.
I have watched MAYDAY many times, and usually when the plane skids along the ground the aft end breaks off and is destroyed. I therefore think I want a seat over the wing, as it usually is the area that survives.
I prefer the nonstop flights and always travel that way. Better pay a bit more to avoid the huge stress and anxiety with connection that sometimes have long delay, specially post pandemic. I don't sit all-time on my trip but stand up every2 hours about to stretch , pushup and squats. There's a lot of room near toilets, near emergency exit that I can even plank. Heels lifting is a good option too. Yes and pay a bit more to seat selection. My preference the aisle seats and we are two in the middle row, so no one move in out on our side. The left and right row don't have that option. I carry a water spray I mix with lavender oil. Very helpful to feel refreshed. Going again to Europe in a few weeks vacation.
As a senior diabetic, I always prefer to fly in an aisle seat. Allows me to stand whenever the need arises (toilet, stretching, etc.) without disturbing others in my row. Front or back of the plane depends on how long a layover.
We started a couple years ago taking a bag of chocolate and a couple sugar free items along with a thank you card. We do try to find something local if we can. I did hear a flight attend ask that you put your seat number on it, so I will start doing that. I would like to hear what other people bring.
I was about to make the same comment. He said "me and Meg" about a dozen times throughout the video. I kept screaming , is "Meg and I". And I'm not even a native English speaker. English is my second language.
You would never say “Me have a personal preference of flying at night” So of course “Me and Meg have . . . “ sounds equally bad. You would say, “I have,” right? So say “Meg and I have.” The other person’s name always comes first.
I have scanned copies of Everything on a thumb drive that I (usually) wear around my neck on a ball chain. I include travel docs, passport, insurance, next of kin stuff, itinerary, must have phone numbers etc and in it's own folder Any medical information that a doctor or second responders might need (like blood type, allergies etc) First responder stuff goes on the same chain but in written form laminated like a backstage pass If there's room put the "asterisk" medical logo in a bright colour so they know for sure it's for them. Make sure there are No executables (programs/apps) and all documents in PDF and/or txt formats as you never know what computer programs they might have. If you can, Have folders that are the same information in the languages of the countries you might find yourself in. English/French/Spanish at least, folder name that say the name of the language In that language Espania not Spain etc.
my sister ALWAYS takes the window seat, she loves it. and i don't know why but i actually enjoy the middle. i always travel with family (i have never traveled alone) and they normally take the aisle or window. i enjoy the middle because i have a really good bladder and never need to get up from my seat, the window is still close enough to me, and i just enjoy being surrounded by my family on both sides. also if the window seat person needdsto get up i can normally slide right through (which i'm fine with) or i can just grab my legs and keep sitting because i am natrually a small person. is anyone else a middle seat person?
On my last trip to Amsterdam I gave a flight attendant a $15 Starbucks gift card. She freaked out and was SO HAPPY. I guess that doesn't happen very often. I also gave the pilot one as well...
The back of the plane is where people go, to try and quiet their crying baby. One, miserable flight, I had a seat in the last row at the back. There were four babies on that flight. Each one spent some time being held, directly over my head while they cried! Also, avoid seats that are near the restrooms. The doors opening and closing make a lot of noise and it can smell pretty bad.
Also if you can pick your seats avoid being next to the toilet, it's a bit hard to rest when you have people queuing next to you and the noise of the slamming door every 2 minutes.
This might be a dumb question, but when is an appropriate time to offer a gratitude gift on a long-haul flight? Do I present it right at the beginning to form a good relationship for the duration of the flight or, is that in bad taste because it seems like a bribe? I've never done this before but it is a nice gesture. Being a flight attendant can be a hard job, people can be a-holes. I'd like to make myself known as a NON a-hole straight away if you know what I mean?!
That is a good question but we have done it at different times, before and after the flight! i really think it is just personal preference and what you feel most comfortable with!
I have a ‘long haul’ trip coming up next week from New England to the tropics on the opposite side of the planet, 12 time zones away (no need to reset the watch!) How’s this schedule - 6AM cab ride to the ferry takes about 20 minutes, ferry to mainland 45 min, bus to airport 90 min, check-in & security 3hrs, flight from Boston to Tokyo 14 hrs, 90 mins at Narita before connecting flight, flight from Narita to Jakarta 7hrs, followed by customs & imigrasi in JKT 90 minutes, then a cab ride to apartment in JKT 30 mins… So, that’s travel from 6am Thursday, arrive at 2am Saturday. About 32 hours non-stop. Then fall into a comatose sleep… to wake up in the tropics - Nasi Goring and fresh fruit for breakfast! Aisle seat in economy. Note: JAL has the most amazing list of menu choices imaginable if you order your meals online before your flight: they offer a special menu for all sorts of international travelers - from several ethnic vegan options to allergy-conscious choices. My travel tip: avoid alcohol, avoid coffee or stimulating teas. And def skip the THC gummies UNLESS you have beaucoup personal experience with those. Wear loose clothing. Be comfortable not stylish.
We are not doing long haul anymore we are over them. I recently flew from Amsterdam to bangkok and did 2x times 6 hours with 1 night on my stopover place. Is so much better than those bloody long haul.
I workout months in advance of a trip. Full body, arms, abs. Not only will it help to fit into new fits(😂)it'll increase stamina and strength with luggage and walking. I also got to the Dollar Tree for my toiletries in my personal item/in seat bag.
I am 6'5" and over 300 lbs, I need to pick my seat and it is usually exit row and the aisle. For some reason I can't fall asleep on a plane, so on my long haul flights I usually pick a flight that will arrive in the evening of my destination. That allows me to go to sleep at a normal time, or maybe a little early, and by the time I wake up the next morning I am adjusted to the new time.
At the start of the flight I set my watch to my destinations time zone. Try to minimize jet lag. 6 1/2 hr flight coming up and jet lag is a problem. TG90 power cell with built in charging cables. TSA pre-check. Yes, aisle seat, middle row. Happy traveling.
I choose any aisle where I can get my left knee stretched out! It can’t stay bent super long without getting stiff, so I get up and walk as much as I can without being a nuisance. I’ve never done the gift thing, nice idea…
I agree that seats toward the back often have more chance of getting an empty seat in your row, but two things to consider. First, you don't want to be too close to the lavatory. Second, even though the seat maps show the back is wide open it's still a gamble because people who bought basic economy fares don't get to choose a seat. Instead they are assigned at the airport and tend to be in the back of the plane so if there are a fair number of those folks it fills up.
when 2 folks are travelling together( like my friend & I will be in 79 days with just short 30hrs flying time,3 flights,4 time zones)1 book aisle seat & other book window seat same row.On the occasion I travelled internationally with my kids it's fun to find out that the airline charge 3rd child as an adult as they quoted me 1 child per adult.(i had 3 & was a young widow so no partner to travel with!)
I'm going to Isreal next month and picked my seats because I'm 6'5" and need exit row seats to accommodate my giant legs. Otherwise I have to put my feet in my pockets for 15 hours.
Please let me know what you do to PREPARE for a long-haul flight? I am always looking to learn and add some new stuff to my preparations! thanks for watching ❤

Have you heard about trading cards? Pilots give them free if you ask.
Battery pack, the stuff that gave me the most peace of mind
I use a foot hammock. Really helps.

This is great to hear! Thanks for sharing!❤️
Question for the flight attendant. I was just curious on a long haul flight how many attendant are there on them?
amanda and i give salt water taffy we get from bucc-ee's here in texas. we gave it to an air france crew in 2021 and they loved it. something different from chocolate. they even gave use a glass of Champagne as thanks even though we were sitting in coach. we do not need anything in return. juts our way of trying to brighten their day a little. we have yet to have a flight crew not like the taffy. they are so used to getting chocolate then out of the blue they get something different.

I was thinking about doing it
brilliant. gonna do this. also can refresh it with cold water from an onboard water bottle, for a quick 'wake up' face wash after flying all night.
Me and my wife do this all the time and it works great!
great tip! Ill remember this on our way home!
Nope. People know this trick now and I’ve seen many people not change seats because of the audacity of the other travellers doing this.
@@shaz-loves-coffeeThis. Just get the adjecent seats.
Glad they helped! Thanks for watching❤️
getting ready for my first long haul flight to Japan in 2 weeks, I'll definitely work on the sleep, movement and hydration bit
"Vertically challenged and under weight"? You mean _fun size!_
Thanks for sharing!
I take a low-dose aspirin every day for a clogged artery in one leg And it completely healed me so I Really recommend aspirin For a flight
Great tips
Awesome tips! Thanks so much! I like the appreciation ideas. Flight attendants do work hard and deal with our nonsense for long hours. Definitely going to do this.
Leaving on a 10 hour flight to London in a few days. Thanks for the video. Have watched several and you are the first I have seen that said to start hydrating day or two before the flight not while on the flight. Drinking during the flight will help but you hydrate before not durning.
Thanks for watching❤️
Meg definitely loves you if you always get the window, she's a keeper!
Great! Thanks for sharing
Having the whole row to ourselves happened once for us, and it was AMAZING! Thanks for sharing ❤️
We always buy Starbucks cards for the flight attendants
Nice that is a good one!! I will try that on my next flight! ❤️
Except most airport Starbucks don’t take gift cards….
@@thetravelcoachesI sometimes do a nice quality chocolate bar along with the thank you note.
I’m a retired f/a it’s a very nice thought to give a small gift to a f/a. When someone was as thoughtful I always tried to reciprocate with them.😊
I’m preparing for my first ever international trip.
As a former flight attendant, we ABSOLUTELY appreciate comment cards, thank you’s and just all around cooperation lol
I have watched a LOT of vids on this but this one is by far the best. Thank you so much. I did not hear your name, but now have subscribed! 😅😅😅😅😊😊
Good video.
I love something you said - you said to be empathetic and treat people nicely!
Also, compression socks, both to help
Blood flow and not clot.
Thanks for sharing your experience! The six months in advance can be a good timeline!❤️
I prefer window seats closer to the rear of the plane. I NEVER travel national or international without seat preselection. Love your ideas!
Seat selection can be really nice❤️
On a ten-seat across flight I’ll take a center, then find an uninhabited row and take the five center seats to sleep; wonderful!
Thanks for watching and supporting! ❤️ We really appreciate it!
That is a great tip, thanks for sharing!
I do the foot alphabet too, it gives every rotation, I think it's a great airplane exercise
Agree
I clean the bathroom before AND afterwards.
I love sitting in isle seat! but i learnt that the middle isle is better, make sense. thank you!
Great tips. I like the idea of stretching prior and if possible during the flight. But as for choosing seats, why not check in 24 hrs prior (or whenever the online check in opens)? During that time you can select your seat for free.
Yes good point we usually do check in early , and as far as the seats go we are usually fine with the ones that they just assign to us!
Thanks for sharing and watching our videos!
Your video stands out among the others for innovative content, great job! I wondered about the app you were using for sleep quality?
Glad it was helpful! That was a fitness tracker called whoop, that also tracks my sleep
I'm doing a transatlantic flt later this month and all the info you shared comes in handy. Will review your other vlogs for additional tips.
Always choose the exit row!!
Great tips! I will be watching again as we get closer as I was a bit distracted while watching the 1st time. As always, fab content. Thx!
I prefer window seats on long-haul flights. The aisle seats are less claustrophobic but people tend to bump in to you when they're walking to the restroom. I find this very annoying when trying to sleep. I never choose a seat by the restroom as you will have to deal with people going in and out and the smell is bad.
I always make sure that I have movies and tv shows pre-downloaded before my flight. I also like to have a few games that I can play offline.
Thanks for sharing! I think a lot of people can relate to this advice!
My carry-on is usually only stuff I would use on the flight. When I board, I load up the seat pocket with everything I would need.
Also, the smell!
I always choos isle seats as I use the restroom often. 2nd would be window seats but only if the flight is less than 2 hours, there is no one in the middle seat, or the whole row is empty :D
I always buy something for the crew, as an advise from my cousin as she a B.A. cabin crew. They always appreciate it
I live in Thailand, and travel back to USA about once a year. I prefer window seats on right side of plane toward back but 3-4 rows before last row.
I like the middle of the middle bcuz no body will get up to pass you.
My husband and I usually book 2 aisle seats either across from each other or one behind the other.
I try to get to bed early 2-3 days before a very long flight plus hydration electrolytes is a game changer! ;)
While I do prefer the isle seat, that's not as important to me as making sure I get the exit row. I am 6"5 so I NEED the extra legroom or I'm in incredible pain.
Thank you
It’s me always --packing still last second that’s made me always keep pressure n palpitations 😢😢😢
I’ll organized on my next flight
Thank you for using non-stop terminology correctly...direct is not non-stop 🥰 (retired airfares person here) 😊
The flight attendants make way more than I ever did. If I’m sweet to them that’s enough.
Back of plane always seems safer. All those plane crashes you see, the tail section is always intact 😂. Window seat for me.
As a senior diabetic, I always prefer to fly in an aisle seat. Allows me to stand whenever the need arises (toilet, stretching, etc.) without disturbing others in my row. Front or back of the plane depends on how long a layover.
Thanks for sharing❤️
We started a couple years ago taking a bag of chocolate and a couple sugar free items along with a thank you card. We do try to find something local if we can.
I did hear a flight attend ask that you put your seat number on it, so I will start doing that.
I would like to hear what other people bring.
I like your suggestions, but as a teacher, it’s ( Meg and I)
Hahaha everyone has been correcting me on that! ❤️ I will try and do better with that.
Or just say we
Almost turned off as it was so irritating to me....
I really like how organized your have this video.
Thank you!! 😊
my sister ALWAYS takes the window seat, she loves it. and i don't know why but i actually enjoy the middle. i always travel with family (i have never traveled alone) and they normally take the aisle or window. i enjoy the middle because i have a really good bladder and never need to get up from my seat, the window is still close enough to me, and i just enjoy being surrounded by my family on both sides. also if the window seat person needdsto get up i can normally slide right through (which i'm fine with) or i can just grab my legs and keep sitting because i am natrually a small person. is anyone else a middle seat person?
On my last trip to Amsterdam I gave a flight attendant a $15 Starbucks gift card. She freaked out and was SO HAPPY. I guess that doesn't happen very often. I also gave the pilot one as well...
The back of the plane is where people go, to try and quiet their crying baby. One, miserable flight, I had a seat in the last row at the back. There were four babies on that flight. Each one spent some time being held, directly over my head while they cried!
Also, avoid seats that are near the restrooms. The doors opening and closing make a lot of noise and it can smell pretty bad.
Stretching, compression socks and walking while on board can save your life by preventing Deep Vein Thrombosis. (DVT)
I saw a Scandinavian Airlines ad that said that the middle seat is underrated. Lol
I workout months in advance of a trip. Full body, arms, abs. Not only will it help to fit into new fits(😂)it'll increase stamina and strength with luggage and walking. I also got to the Dollar Tree for my toiletries in my personal item/in seat bag.
tip about travel Dollar Tree shopping: most of their full-sized toothpastes are under 3 oz., so it's a better value for traveling.
Great advice and suggestions.. thanks
Thanks for sharing!❤️
Thank you very much for the video!
Take an empty water bottle through security and fill it up when you get to the other side. Saves buying another one
when 2 folks are travelling together( like my friend & I will be in 79 days with just short 30hrs flying time,3 flights,4 time zones)1 book aisle seat & other book window seat same row.On the occasion I travelled internationally with my kids it's fun to find out that the airline charge 3rd child as an adult as they quoted me 1 child per adult.(i had 3 & was a young widow so no partner to travel with!)
I'm going to Isreal next month and picked my seats because I'm 6'5" and need exit row seats to accommodate my giant legs. Otherwise I have to put my feet in my pockets for 15 hours.
Oh yes that is a great point if you are tall! Picking your seat is almost a must!❤️
