Big shoutout to @unboundmerino for keeping us comfy on those long flights! 🛫Check out their gear at shrsl.com/4ews6 and snag a cool 10% off with code "AWAYTOGETHER"
I flew economy on Turkish Airlines. The seats were comfy and spacious (I am a big guy and was worried about not fitting in the seats), the food was superb, would definitely fly with them again
Regarding neck pillow: Some budget airlines started to count it as a personal item. Be aware about carry-on and/or personal item restrictions of airline - so many new downsized restrictions about size/weight with nearly all airlines.
Was curious if you have any videos on how to reset from a trip, organize pictures and videos, and recalibrate. I see a lot of videos about trip planning but little about the backend of travel.
@@TRUTHWINSALLWAYS I found for me taking a few days off after returning to unpack and reset was helpful. Take time to visit with friends and family but more importantly I took time for myself. I know that might not be an option for everyone. But helped me after a month long trip.
This video dropped while I was inflight from FCO-ORD. 1 hour before departure(when unassigned seats are assigned for international) , I checked my seat against the seat map in the Carriers app. I switched from a full row up front to an empty row in the back of the aircraft . Also, in addition to merino T Shirt, Merino underwear helps a whole lot as well. PS,don’t wash or brush teeth with airplane lavatory water!
Great as always. Apart from the wobly tray table, exit rows in the front increases the chances of a crying baby exponentially. So I do not only avoid those but the the two rows behind also.
We have a transatlantic flight next week and due to various canceled flights, got bumped from economy plus to business. I’m actually looking forward to a flight I would normally dread. I actually used your code a while ago, thanks, and got a pair of black travel pants from Unbound. I will also wear a merino base layer shirt, an alpaca zip-up hoody and a pashmina shawl, so plenty of warm layers.
I wish I could do one 17 hour flight! 😀 We do 8 + 14 from Melbourne, plus layover time. I love hearing people complain about flights longer than 4 hours… 😂
I flew to Europe for the first time in June. Flight left NY at midnight, and landed in Paris at 130 local time. I upgraded to premium economy which basically gave me a seat that reclined as much as a lazyboy. I got decent sleep on the plane..not as much as a full night....but I was only going to be out and about for half a day anyway, so it worked out well.
I make frequent trips to SE Asia and I always get an aisle seat. I also take a hoodie as planes can get cool and I also like to put the hood up to let people know I’m unavailable. I download Netflix shows on my iPad and you can binge an entire season. I also listen to audio books. Get a Bose Quiet Comfort headset, the battery life is great and the noise canceling is not only great for plane noise but really works great for crying kids.
@papadougpapadougsadventures Do you fly with a neck pillow? If so, are your over-head headphones able to sit properly despite using a neck pillow? Contemplating whether to opt for overhead or in ear buds
@@reyorbci3398 I don’t use a neck pillow. I use the overhead headphones. I also carry the Bose QC Ultra earbuds for use if I want to switch it up for any discomfort. I find the adjustable wings on most plane headrests are enough for me. Also the over the head Bose come with a cable to allow me to plug in to the plane entertainment system.
I took two 14 hour flights when traveling to Australia. After the first flight I bought noise cancellation headphones in the airport while waiting for the connection and was actually less tired after the second flight than after the first. I was really surprised it made such a huge difference.
As much as I love the wool clothing, Unbound Merino doesn’t like the bigger plus sized people. They only go to XXL for men and XL for women. For the larger plus sizes, I use Wool& and they’re great. They go to 3X.
I just got back from a vacation with 6 flights, all over 5 hours each. NONE of the planes had screens. Passengers are now expected to plug in a tablet or phone with USB into the system to access the plane's entertainment. The airlines I was aboard were Alaska and Hawaii.
I love my backpack with wheels and a handle on it, I think it cost around $150-$200. it has went across the world with me around 5X over now, the handle is a little wobbly/loose but its been 3 years and it hasn't broken yet.
Another tip if you have noise cancelling headphones but no cable, you can wear both the headphones provided by the cabin crew and the noise cancelling ones at the same time.
I tend to agree with the video, I don’t find neck pillows to be worthwhile. They take up space and aren’t very comfortable, in my opinion. But my parents love them for traveling, even in the car. So whatever works for you is great for you! 😊
Yessss. Your #1 suggestion is perfect. And even if you booked an economy flight, if you can afford the $30 or so that it costs to upgrade to a better seat DO IT. Yessss you're absolutely right. 💯
Have you tried the Timeshifter ap? It was helpful for avoiding jetlag on our most recent trip to Europe. Appreciate your middle-section aisle suggestion. I used to take the window, now take the aisle because getting stuck for hours on end is awful.
For me it’s - no short shorts- why would you want your skin on those gross seats? And open toed shoes. No one wants to look at your feet for hours, plus airplanes are not clean and why risk injury. Not a good idea in case you need to evacuate the plane on the ground. Good tip to mention how dehydrating flights are.
Great content 👍only thing I do differently is no wool . Silk or silk like polyester in layers can take me from 80 to 20 without shedding . Personally I have found wool even the best can have an itch attack without warning.
Luckily for me I’m a very heavy sleeper! On my 13h flight from LA to Auckland I slept the entire way there. My essentials are an eye mask and earplugs and I’m set!
The most underrated advice that people will ignore and shouldn’t is the Unbound Merino bit. I on a whim purchased my first 3 shirt bundle three months ago. I now have 9 tees regular and lightweight, under wear and recently got the socks. I’ve done 4 trips with it and it is a game changer. Worth the spend. Yes I tried the *%#€£ty ones from Amazon and they suck and was why I put off UBM for so long focused one the price. The benefits outweigh the price ten fold Mahalo 🤙🏽
I’ll be flying to the Philippines this November and I’m so nervous. I have 2 layovers and one of the flights will be 16 hours and it’s economy and I’ve never done this before 😱 wish me luck
Never ever get on a plane without a sweatshirt. You never know which flight is going to be 64°. Personally, I like The bulkhead rows because I like watching movies I’ve saved on my phone (Sometimes podcast or audiobooks ) and I don’t care about the fold out stuff related to the airplane.
Hi Nic and Allie, this is a great video with very helpful tips and links! Definitely getting the power bank and stand! Would you choose a 9 hour nonstop flight to Europe with children, or would you do a layover? I understand you guys have a young child; mine are 11 and 8.
I’ll be flying internationally for the first time in July. I have completely converted everything and all my tech to USB-C, so thanks for the reminder about USB-A. I have a huge charging brick but I don’t want to be taking up each socket. I’m assuming there’s AC power for each seat?
I put myself into a deep trance and before I know it the flight is over. mind over matter there are certainly harder things to do than having to set still for 10-12 hrs.
Number 1: find ur gate so no stress 2: get beers it’s gonna be a long flight… 3. Don’t talk when boarding so they can’t smell the liquor or throw on a Covid mask😂😂😂 3: sit down listen to some tunes 4: order more drinks 5: sleep. 6: awake up get one more beer to get into vacation mood and boom ur arrived Pro tip pack a hoodie in case the planes cold Pro tip if ur drinking don’t take the window u break the seal ur done for 😂 they will hate u getting up every 30 mins
I thoroughly enjoy all your videos. A few months ago I spent 5 weeks on the road (train) in Italy, France and Switzerland. You videos really made the trip trekking across Europe as a single 76 year old man enjoyable. BUT, yes that inevitable BUT NOT BUTT. Sleeping on the aircraft. The reason I do not sleep in a sitting position is that I snore. I do not want to be that decrepit old man snoring disturbing everyone. I can not find any assistance on line. Suggestions? Thank you.
Take a pillow and bungie it to your backpack, 14 hours in economy is no fun and it still counts as your one carry on. I carry a small nylon Adidas drawstring bag inside the backpack and then put the stuff I want in it before stowing the back pack. If you play games then get yourself a PS Vita and jailbreak it; its GOAT handheld that you can stash in the pocket of your cargo pants in a way that you cant stash a Nintendo Switch or Steamdeck. Also, wear Cargo pants - big baggy and full of pockets. If you have access to a Uniqlo, then use them - they make great clothes that are supposed to be layered and perfect for flights. I always become quite Hangry on long flights, they never feed you enough so get some sandwiches for your backpack. I always take an aisle seat as the social anxiety is much easier if you dont have to climb over strangers to take a leak. If you're flying as a couple reserve the window and an aisle. Nobody wants the middle seat; so if the flight is packed the person in middle seat will be happy to trade it for the window and if less packed then hooray; you have 3 seats! Always be nice to all staff, both in flight and the airport. That time you got bumped from economy to premium economy and you got to the gate and they were overfull and do you dreadfully mind if we put you in Business? It does happen. Rarely. But it does. Alcohol i'm mixed on, if you're the sort of person that can drink a bunch, get smily and then fall asleep then knock yourself out. If you are either a pain in the arse or worse yet aggressive when drunk then dont drink. You either drink yourself asleep or do not touch a single drop, there is no middle ground that doesn't involve needing to go to the bathroom and feeling like shit for no reason. Be mindful and prepared for Immigration, carry a pen in your cargo pants. The last thing you need is some passive aggressive officer in Atlanta telling you that subsection 4 of clause c of paragraph 2 wasn't filled out.
Don't think there is any solution. Travelling in my work around the world in economy and so far 10 years in i can't sleep on a flight. I "pass out" around an hour after a flight change if I'm lucky otherwise I'm basically awake for 28 hours.
Big shoutout to @unboundmerino for keeping us comfy on those long flights! 🛫Check out their gear at shrsl.com/4ews6 and snag a cool 10% off with code "AWAYTOGETHER"
Unbound Merino ignores larger people.
Dressing in layers is so essential! When i was flying back from bangkok, the plane was like a fridge it was so cold!
I flew economy on Turkish Airlines.
The seats were comfy and spacious (I am a big guy and was worried about not fitting in the seats), the food was superb, would definitely fly with them again
Tip Number 1. Be under 5 ft 8inches tall.
😂
Oh hell yes I am good then ..thank you height guru!!!
Agree. I'm 5-7 and can't imagine how someone any taller can get comfortable unless they are in first class maybe.
I literally almost just posted this. I picked 5'8" also.
Doh! 🤦🏻♂️

Unfortunately when you fly 17 hours from Perth to London, the flight is always gonna suck 😂

Gin tonic + sleeping pill. No more secrets needed.

Highly recommend the Trtl neck pillows. They fold flat and offer better support than the fluffy ones.
Trtl is garbage

2 4 2 instead of 3 3 3
Thanks! Some tips can also use in premium eco flights as well
A lot of phone cases have belt clips. Many of those belt clips can double as a stand. Otterbox defender series is a good example.

Depends on the plane/airline, but it's more and more common these days. Good luck on your flight! Have a nice trip.
Almost always on an international flight, but I've yet to fly a Southwest flight that had AC power or USB ports. Sad.
Compression under shorts - under the sweatpants helps a lot too..
