Because if you’re intimidated by your parents your whole life then it’s going to be somewhat traumatic or somewhat damaging. Whether it’s mental, physical or emotional damage, it’s still damage. It's one thing to lose your temper at your own kids, but it is next level to lose your temper at your grandchildren! The one thing that I would do in your situation is to report it to the relevant child protection agency in your area because with your fear of your own upbringing and now your sister is doing the same thing to her own children, unless someone pulls them up on their behaviour, it will continue to happen unfortunately! They need to be held accountable!

I always find it strange how people feel they need to force kids to finish their food when they say they’ve had enough. Make it clear that they won’t be getting anything else until the next allotted meal time and if they are still not wanting to finish their food then it’s on them if they get hungry later.
If we are full up no one forces us to finish everything and it should be the same for kids. And the food they don’t eat doesn’t need to be wasted, keep it in the fridge and give it back to them next meal time 🤷🏻‍♀️
