Robert in particular was affected because they were already close long before Led Zep. They had played in a number of bands together before, including 'A band of joy' with Lyndon Laney, who went on to become an amp manufacturer.
Some bands are like that. When Niel Peart of Rush took a several year hiatus after losing his only daughter to a car accident and his wife to cancer 9mos later, basist/vocalist said "we thiught we were done. I don't want to play in Rush with any other 2 guys. It is the band, us 3 guys. There's no replacing anyone in this band." Fortunately, Niel came back for several awesome more years before brain cancer took him earlier this year. And now Rush, sadly, is done. Like these 3 friends, the best bands are true friends, Bonham and Plant particularly being close in Led Zeppelin.
JPJ was happy. I read an interview he gave, back in the 70's. The interviewer asked him if he resented all the adulation the other guys got and he said "Are you kidding? They can't leave the hotel for screaming fans but I just breezed through the hotel foyer, totally unnoticed, went out and bought myself a coffee at a pavement cafe and read my newspaper. But I still get to sample the Groupies at the after-party". LOL

No autotune of course, but this live version is not entirely from Long Beach. The yell was edited from the first night in LA where he was able to hit it ONCE. The range of music they had, from Stairway to Immigrant, unbelievable... and everything in between. I was 18 at the time, what a time to find music that touched my soul.
Notice the faster tempo from the studio version also. It’s like they said let’s blow their socks off and mashed that gas pedal to the floor! By far one of the greatest bands ever!

"Immigrant Song" was written during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, which inspired Plant to write the lyrics. He explained in an interview: We weren't being pompous ... We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different. Six days after Led Zeppelin's appearance in Reykjavik, the band performed the song for the first time in concert during the Bath Festival.
@@paulwagner688 If JRR Tolkien said that of Led Zeppelin and knew of them that is so cool. It fits though. Zep references Tolkiens work in several of their songs and Tolkien wrote reimaginings of Norse mythology.
It was also on School of Rock - apparently LZ rarely let their music be used in films - but they loved the scene featuring Jack Black miming along to it so much they allowed it. Good choice
Me too. Feel exactly the same. Old. 53 days shy of 65. Love the originals, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, early Stones, AC/DC, Iron Maiden. Can listen to them all day n night long. Crank up the volume
Zep, Rush and Coheed&Cambria (during the 'trying to do a multi-album story arc' thing to carry/advance the Prog banner) tie for me. Journey at 2.00000000001.
@mickey7411 Yeah they did. The song Taurus, by Spirit. It's in court as we speak, with a ruling sometime next year. Try not to call people fools unless you're absolutely certain on something, otherwise the irony is too great to bear.
There is a video on UA-cam that shows how to play the drums to this song. I will tell you that your right on that bass drum only gets to rest when the song is over, I mean it is cooking. I know because I am drummer. Your leg gets a work out
I had the same reaction when discovering LZ. I knew I had heard all those songs before (radio, tv, etc.) but I had no idea the same band performed all of them.
Same. I grew up as a military brat and was stationed in various parts of California and Europe during the late 60 through 80s and did not have good radio reception or any at all in some area. So my music growing up was hit and miss. I knew about led zeppelin ( who hasn't) but only knew the did stairway, kashmir, and dazed and confused. A few years ago XM radio had a special channel of only Led Zeppelin music. I'm like...they played that? That's them? I loved black dog in Jr hi. I did know that was them? Nope. I discovered so many of the songs I liked where led zeppelin songs. So I'm on a quest to get all the albums ( ok cds cause I don't have a record player any more) not just the box sets but the actual cds to hear them in the original order. ( yes I also need the box set that has 'what can I do' on it since that is one of my favorites of all time.
Achilles Last Stand is one of those songs that hardcore Zeppelin fans like but probably isn't the best song to recommend to new Led Zeppelin listeners. It's a good song if you focus on the nuances such as Bonham's but to new listeners that don't focus on that stuff it's just a 10 minute song that goes nowhere.
@@escaleraalcielo6990 Soul Train Bro is damn good. That dude is god tier as far as breaking stuff down and researching the history of the group/song he's reacting to. The thing with Soul Train Bro is he's listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin songs before listening to Achilles Last Stand. He was already a fan at that point when he dived into the song. If I remember correctly, he did Achilles Last Stand several months and several songs after his first listen of Led Zeppelin. I could be wrong but from personal experience I don't think you can really appreciate a bands deep tracks until you get an understanding of what a band's truly about.
Ehhh…. Sabbath isn’t as mainstream as Zep but are much more enjoyable in my opinion. I don’t think Zep is close to Sabbath. I’d rate 3-4 of their albums over any single album from Zep.
"Hey, Hey What Can I Do" by Led Zeppelin is the B-Side to the "Immigrant Song" single; flip that record over and give "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" a listen.
Jamal since you're on this musical journey, and experiencing music. There is a man that you must listen to. The song is About to Begin from the album Bridge of Sighs, his name is Robin Tower. As these lyrics say f you stand in the light, you get the feel of the ride And the music that plays in your ears In your head you can hear, a voice so sweet and clear And the music that plays in your head As it flows up from the ground Taking all who hear that sound Close your eyes, its about to begin. You will see how fitting this journey will be for you with this song

I love when they’re all running in at the beginning as someone that’s been to many a general admission concert where you ran for your life to find a spot near the front they don’t do that anymore LOL

Went to a Bachman Turner general admission concert in Tulsa in 1974 and it was the last Tulsa would ever see! There was such a push from the rear, that those folks up front literally got pushed through a 30’ series of glass doors and the whole thing came down! Music generally sounds creepy and weird when played backwards regardless.

Zepplin made a concert movie called "The Song Remains the Same". You HAVE TO watch entire movie. You won't believe where all those strange sounds were made. With the movie you get to watch how much punishment that guitar and those drums endured.

"Immigrant Song" was written during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, which inspired Plant to write the lyrics. He explained in an interview:
We weren't being pompous ...
It is insane how close to the recorded version he sounds. Outstanding voice.
Many of Led Zep's songs are mythic.. Norse mythology.. love love love!!!
Because that is the history of England.
"And I'm more rock and roll than you've ever been!
Don't believe me? ASK LED ZEPPELIN!"--JRR Tolkien, Epic Rap Battles of History
Yes Sandy it is English history. But Zep were into the Norse mythology, and their take on it.
Its not mythology. The Vikings invaded much of Britain back in the day. There is a clue in British place names. The Scots use some Norwegian words.
Good choice

I had the same reaction when discovering LZ. I knew I had heard all those songs before (radio, tv, etc.) but I had no idea the same band performed all of them.
Same!
Nope.

Escalera al Cielo my favorite. Needs to be the live version
Agreed. I'd like to add no quarter to the list too..✌️😂
Achilles Last Stand is one of those songs that hardcore Zeppelin fans like but probably isn't the best song to recommend to new Led Zeppelin listeners. It's a good song if you focus on the nuances such as Bonham's but to new listeners that don't focus on that stuff it's just a 10 minute song that goes nowhere.
Soul Train Bro did it right away and it blew him away
There’s a lot of great, amazing rock bands. But Zeppelin is in a realm of their own. They set the bar so high, no one can reach it!
Ehhh…. Sabbath isn’t as mainstream as Zep but are much more enjoyable in my opinion. I don’t think Zep is close to Sabbath. I’d rate 3-4 of their albums over any single album from Zep.
