Darts - Duke of Earl

- A classic Cover of Gene Chandler's Duke of Earl. This version was performed by the Darts and reached no.6 in the UK singles Chart. I've replaced the mono soundtrack with a stereo version. The video quality leaves something to be desired but unfortunately I don't have the software to improve it.
2023, and still listening this song. That means it must be good.
47 years later I still listen and love Darts awesome band !!!
I was 14 at the time & totally obsessed with this song. 42 years later (!!) it's still a belter.
Where do the years go. 57 this year and all this seems like just yesterday.
Snap
Seemed a bit of a novelty act at the time , oh how I long for those times .

I’ve just turned 60🤦♂️ 😂what happened
I was born in 1997 and I'm into songs from before my time. There are some songs from my time I enjoy but I was never the type who likes to follow trends. I prefer to do my own thing.
Absolutely fabulous and great memories! Thanks to all the great musicians that gave us Darts!
Listening in April 2023. Still my favourite version. Love this so much.
A GREAT GROUP OF SINGERS.
This was my uncle Simons karaoke song he passed not long ago I miss him so much I will always think of him listening to this song love you Simon ❤❤❤
What a voice and they could all sing! Need more like Darts nowadays!
THERES ONLY ONE DARTS.

Saw them in Leeds when I was about 15 am 60 now seeing them in hull in October can not wait👍
One of the gems on vinyl that my Dad left me.
I still have my original 45!

❤
God bless your dad 🙏🏻
I absolutely love this song, we need another group to do this kind of music ❤❤💜💜🎵🎵
Fantastic Record ⏺️ and a Great version of DUKE OF EARL
One of the most the best vocal range of all groups. All are top class
My favourite Darts song. My nickname Duke, still sticks with me today because of this song.
I envy you.
Duke, What a nickname.
You scored with that one.
I liked this as a teen and love it even more now. What a beautiful voice ✨️🌻💛🎸⭐️🌸🌟
So much talent and fun band! What have we got nowadays to compare?
Not a lot.
Nothing..
one of the best songs they ever sung and just by watchng this video you can see how they all enjoyed making thier music singing thier songs and enjoying each others company, under estimated band ... i think they are brilliant so amazing,
Class 👍
ahem - - their
Terrific.....spot on....👍🇬🇧🤓
...TRY THE ORIGINAL BY GENE CHANDLER
I believe Gene Chandler's original was a US number 1 in the early 60s. Out of the blue,he had a revival hit in the UK in very early 1979 with a disco track called Get Down!
Great band 👌 great time to be alive ❤️❤️
loved this when they brought it out I was a teenager and this song along with the group got me through so many times. Later in life I met a great guy we became best of friends brother in laws as he married my partners sister, found out he loved this song too. A few years later we were driving to work in the morning when we were in a fatal crash everyone died incurring me but got brought back 3 times that day. Now when I hear this amazing song I always remember the man I loved to call Brother
21 years old. Found this when I was 14 and fell in love with the song and similar ones. Maybe not what is expected from people my age but I don’t care it’s very much a toe tapper!
I love it too
This was my youth would not have missed it for the world. Darts were/are an amazing group.
Reading all these comments on Darts they really were loved. I think more so now than at the time though. Not a bad word to be said💕💕
70s at their best.an absolute classic and their best song
What great voices, great songs, brings back happy memories of summer hols & not a care in the world, timeless classics
Very underrated.
whatta voice!!! This takes me back to 8 years old, makes me want to cry. Glad to have been around on the earth whilst darts were around! Thank you!
That’s a bit over the top, isn’t it? You want to cry because you were alive at the time when the darts were releasing records yes I get you appreciation of the music but saying you want to cry because you were alive at the same time bloody weird and over emotional. Gorge people post some shite in comment sections. 2:56
Quality song by a top quality band, love it
This guys voice on this is just awesome!
Pity Den wasn't still part of this glorious ensemble of pure talent. Still Absolute Top Draw! 💜
For me Den made this band with his loud suits and crazy dancing.
This was one of those songs that was uplifting yet hit you in the heart, you heard it everywhere when I was a kid, in the summer of 79
Happy days!
Top class great days take me back
A period Lee that has gone forever. What a wonderful period in ones life! I miss those days of nostalgia so much. Have a nice day everyone!😔😔
@@andymatthews7617 me too. The black bird was beautiful
'79 ? More like '59 huh?
1979 I was hearing My Sharona everywhere..haha
I can't believe I'm 58 now , seems like last week, every Thursday I think of top of the pops
Defo the best version sung here by Darts ❤🙏
I dont claim to be ever a singer but i loved this type of music and one night i sang it a local pub and the locals joined in ..that was many years ago but I still sing it around the house brilliant ....
One thing I don't like is remakes where they overdo it, many times to cover for lack of ability. This was not like that and it was done just about perfectly. Just done in a slightly different, more upbeat and demonstrative way without being overdone. Great job. More life to a great classic.
I was nine. It was the year my mom left my dad, brother and me. Had to grow up pretty fast after that, but this song always brought a smile to my face. 💜
outstanding vocals class act
I remember the Darts from when I was a kid...I loved this song then & I love it even more now! They really make it swing! Under-rated band for sure!
DARTS!!!!!
Very underrated so sad sang some great stuff 😢
Utter class transporting me back to a beautifully misspent youth. thanks for the upload
TyroneChoulaice me to love it and the 1980
I'll outdo your misspent youth. I lost my virginity to this song in a neighbour's shed...with my girlfriend straddled over a dustbin...and my cousin with his girlfriend behind me and just across from us...although he wasn't getting any off her. Aaah, happy days.
TyroneChoulaice Lovely words
Won't tell you what memories this song brings back 😄❤️😄
I was nineteen and had a fantastic time

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one
present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
Music says more than words.
Remember these guys running around the Prince of Wales car park in West Wales drunk as skunks, returning from some wedding in Ire? was a laugh it was.... must have been 79 or 80. Us locals just stood back in awe.
I wish you had called me
If I would have known where you were I might have called you, it was great fun and they were really down to earth people.
Someone reminded me of this the other day.....epic song
I love this so much.
Great music never dies x
This version is lame simple and plain compaired to Gene Chandler
@@youremybiggestfan The 50s songs never had the production values of later on, this was produced by Roy Wood, heard of him?, go find See my baby jive, I like the Gene Chandler version, but Darts and Roy Wood took it up a notch and then some, theres no comparison to the two.
Amazing band 🙏
I like this better than the original, god, remember playing it at disco's many years ago
I loved this back in the day never having seen Gene Chandler's original but have to admit his was better.
Jim Jamieson well said its miles better than the original song the 1970s and 80s god what a time the 1970s were ---"""----singer should be in Hi di hi lol
No rhythm at all, nothing like the original
Both versions are great.
true music and from a legendary band
Sadly missed 😢😢😢😢
Wat a voice on this song...think ov my first love this song..heart still broke.
This was the first 7" single I ever bought as a little girl in 1979. Innocent times.
I want to back to that time and stay there forever.
pure class.one of the best
I like the song in general but what makes this stick is out is the melody and rhythm makes it different much more catchier it actually accentuates the song in a different level. Love it.
Y la voz, and the voice
A voice with such emotion lobe the saxophone too such beauty
