trying to force a child to change the name of their pet because you want it for your baby is insane. either YOU choose another name or you grow up and realise it’s a literal rodent 😭
especially since its a pet not leaving the house. its not a dog thatll come along to places so like why are u bothered by a - like you said A LITERAL rodent. that will only live 2-3 years
I don’t even know how he could live with himself after that! But I guess monsters are gonna monster. I’m glad they got their dog back but man, what a betrayal. 😢
Same!! I didn't realize how this would be the number one deal breaker for me until I heard this story. I would have said watch me choose the dog as I walked out to pick it up and never looked back.
Yeah, that was pure evil. I would be absolutely heartbroken if my dog disappeared! 💔😭 I would definitely lose it if someone did that to my fur baby. You would be dead to me. I feel like he should be arrested for doing that. How traumatic for the poor little senior dog, plus it could have easily died. That was SO WRONG and he should face consequences!
The guy who dropped the dog...he at the very least completely and totally ruined his relationship with his daughter. She is never going to trust her own dad again and this will come up for years and years and years.
she must have seen the (good-natured) comments on previous AITA podcast episodes about her not really picking a side maybe. so she went, "you want SimplyNotNiceLogical? I'll give you SimplyNotNiceLogical" lol
We had a baby earlier this year and didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl. We had settled on the name John for a boy. During my pregnancy, my sister’s cat, who had been missing for several months, was found and returned to her. He was also called John. We joked that if we did have a boy, he would be referred to as “John the human”, and the cat would just be John. Seemed fair as he was here first. We thought it would be hilarious. It never came to fruition though as we had a girl. But we were fully prepared for our son to share a name with his aunt’s cat 😂
My partner and I have a dog named Summer (she was his dog before we started dating). We also have a human friend named Summer, who we affectionately call "Not [partner]'s Dog." In fact, human Summer will usually volunteer that as her name if we're together and meeting someone new 😂
Everyone should be allowed to take a 5-10 minute walk every couple hours. It's good for your body and mind. Doesn't matter if you're smoking, walking, chatting with a friend. As long as you get your hours in and your work done!
As a former smoker, the fact that this seems to be a radical notion blows my mind. As smoking goes down we shouldn’t be removing breaks, we should be encouraging similar breaks just for everyone.
That's the thing. You can take 5 or 10 minute breaks even if you don't smoke. It's just that smokers have an internal alarm that goes off. People who don't smoke dont have that, but they can still get up and go out or get a snack or something. It's their own fault for getting butthurt if they don't take advantage 😅
@@h33-q8wmost jobs actually don't allow this. i wish they did, it seems like a much healthier & more comfortable work environment. where i live some places award extra holiday days to non-smokers to both encourage people to quit smoking & to reward all that extra working time non-smokers have done over the year (usually 2-3 extra holiday days).
About the family where all the women "need" to cook for the men: The hunting example isn't really a fair comparison. The problem in the Reddit Story is not about having to go through an unpleasant or morally objectionable task, it's about allowing yourself to be "put in your place". A man who is forced to go hunting despite moral oppositions would definitely have something to complain about, but no one is going to see him as being lesser than the women in his life because of it. In this situation, where the women are forced to serve the men because they are women and are ostracized if they refuse, it is NOT about the activity of cooking. It's about men believing women should serve them, and it's about those same men punishing any woman who will not accept that role for herself. If the girlfriend goes along with this tradition, the "good first impression" of her will be that she is willing to be subservient to the men who want her to be so. And that is going to last long after the meal is over. I agree with Cristine that the male poster in this situation should go cook with the women to stir things up, and I think he should do so even if his girlfriend doesn't come with him. That would make a statement to the family that he sees women as equals and that he's refusing to go along with sexist traditions any longer. He should also apologize to his girlfriend for trying to make her go along with this in the first place.
@@SavantAudiosurf Yes, that's very true. It's quite possible many of the women in the family are sexist as well. But it's unclear to me if others believe it's wrong but are just unwilling to take a stand. On second thought that could be true of some of the men, but I suspected it more of the women since it's stated that some of them do refuse to cook (the ones who are able to "get away with it").
just throwing it out there that men do get ragged on for not "manning up" all the time and i could totally see a guy being knocked down a couple pegs for refusing to hunt in a hypothetical situation where it's a family tradition among the men.
@@Aiden-V2.0 That's very true, but it's still different. Being told to "man up" is forcing someone to meet a certain gender norm, but it isn't forcing someone into a submissive role.
@@SavantAudiosurf demand someone cooks to bond sounds insane/counter productive. why would bf push for it which this is about if he is the ahole, so that's irrelevant.
About the gf cooking for the whole family. It is a test of if the new gf is submissive or not. It's a test to see if the older man can push her boundaries. Those people have misogyny written all over their bodies, and it is wrong for that OP trying to push her gf to do that.
@@SavantAudiosurfI see your argument, but women can also be sexist when they have internalised it. So the fact that it comes from women (which is not the way I interpreted the post) does not change things.
It seems like there's been a similar story in one of the earlier podcasts, and in that one, the women were definitely the ones ostracizing any other woman who didn't help cook. It's internalized misogyny, and the newer generations need to take a stand no matter who's calling the shots, so to speak.
Maybe they could host a second family feast with the roles reversed. That way the women at the grandpa's estate can blast their music, learn new cooking techniques, and get to know each other with full knowledge that next month they'll be waited on. There are nice aspects to cooking together to build family bonds.
That poor dog is approaching the last few years of life and that sick man ABANDONED IT IN A FIELD? BECAUSE IT LIKES TO SIT IN HIS LAP? The fact that he yelled fetch as a distraction to drive off!! Thank goodness she was brought to a shelter but imagine what a traumatizing experience that must be. And she very well could have been injured or killed out there. Kick that guy out of the house. Abandon him in a field out of state.
To think how that poor dog trusted and loved him... For him to betray her like that 😞 Absolutely unconscionable. I hope he isn't let near that dog ever again.
I've been hearing about women using the Barbie movie as a litmus test for the men that they date and she's truly better off without that guy. Imagine thinkint it's sane to steal half of all the blankets, all the batteries, the phone chargers and also ignore any messages from concerned family and friend
It's bizarre behavior for sure, but I'm glad they broke up, he sounded immature and insecure. Also, the whole outrage over the Barbie movie from the manosphere guys is so sad to see, it shows how lonely and miserable they are, I hope it is a good push for some of those guys to realize how detached they are from reality. Life is all about learning about yourself, having passions/hobbies, being around great people, and feeling comfortable about yourself with all the life experiences you have whether you are a male or female. If something doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world, it's just time for a new wonderful chapter in your life.
Just want to underline how traumatising it was for the husband to the elderly doggo on the dog themselves. They're loving creatures, and abandonment can have extreme emotional ramifications on dogs and other pets just like with humans
Hi! I’m just wanted to comment on the app of the first AITA post. At least in Europe there is a relatively known app that works like that which is called Too Good To Go, and I also use it every once in a while to get a cheap dinner if I don’t have a lot of groceries at home. Honestly I really like it, you get about 3 times the value of what you pay (like the post said), and a lot of restaurants, bakeries, and even supermarkets take part in it. The left overs are not food that was left on the plate 😅 it’s just food they had prepared to be sold that day but wasn’t, and since they cannot keep it for the next day, this way it is still not wasted.
I love too good to go as a student. I buy stuff from a bakery ones in a while, put everything in the fridge or be creative and I'm good to go for a few months for no money at all!
Yes we have Too Good To Go here in Canada too! I love it! I especially like getting bags from bakeries or more specialty shops since you have a better idea of what kind of things you’ll get
I love that its a thing over here too. Its not something I could use myself with my dietary needs, but I love that the option is there to help minimise food wastage.
Since I don’t see any comments mentioning it, Amy Rose is Sonic’s… love interest? Ish? Anyway she’s the main female character from the Sonic franchise so I assume that’s why the son decided to name her Amy instead of Sonic 15:00 🦔
Sexist family tradition: I think it's incredibly rude and off putting that the first time OP's gf meets the family they expect her to do chores. Like what?
Yeah I found that weird, if anything I'd expect people who've been around the longest to do the work! Not that that is right either, mind you. Chores should be distributed fairly, or at least juggled around groups over a series of events. Too many times my grandmother has been relegated to the kitchen whilst the rest of the family sit on their arses.
It's such a horrible tradition, and expecting someone to not only cook at someone else's house but to also expect her to do so the first time she meets the family?? I wouldn't go either!
I was dirt poor during both my undergrad and grad, working 30-60 hours per week on top of going to school full-time. I never had nice clothes or expendable income. That being said, other people spending money frivilously has NOTHING to do with me. If someone wants to go spend $200 on a GUCCI t-shirt, that's on them. It doesn't make me feel any type of way. As long as that person can still feed themselves and isnt asking me for money, then it has nothing to do with me and it would be extremely rude of me to try to tell them to stop.
For me it is all about the Ethics about how those clothes are made. Those clothes are often made in the same or similar sweatshops. For that price you could try to be more sustainable, support local small busines or made sure there is less horrendous (child) labour practices slavery. I will 100% judge someone and make that (gently) clear when bought up in conversations. And I have started to someone I was sick of them flaunting their money in front of them and asked them to stop, because money (was, hopefully) a extremely stressful topic and someone bragging infront of you isn't nessecarily conducive for a nice chill atmosfeer. (Edit: forgive and ignore spelling mistakes, I'm a dyslectic non native speaker after a long hot day)
@@mignonhagemeijer3726 someone bragging about their money is different than someone who is just buying a lot of expensive clothes and wearing them. Also, tbh, there are so many evils in the world we accidentally contribute to. From food grown from the hands of exploited workers to living in houses built by companies who turn around and tear more land away from established communities. It's nigh impossible to live a life completely free from harm. Besides, the clothes in Walmart are often made just as unsustainably as the clothes from Gucci. As long as the purchaser gets proper use out of them and gives them a new life when they're done, thats the most I'd ever ask of someone. Personally, I dont like these high-end brands and the "luxury" lifestyle influencers bc of the bullying and harm that tends to accompany it, but if this person isn't engaging in that, then I dont think they're doing anything wrong. I'm not going to heckle someone for buying Prada in the same way I'm not going to heckle someone who eats meat (I'm a vegetarian). We all have different battles we choose to fight. Fast fashion and luxury labels just might not be everyone's battle and that's okay. Life is long and hard. We don't need to make it harder on ourselves.
It's, honestly, no one's business who buys what. I know I don't care what people do with their money. Yeah, there are ethics issues, but pointing that out isn't really going to change anything for most people because we all already know about sweatshops. It's like a vegan forcing their views on other people. Everyone is aware of what animals go through, but if somebody wants a burger, someone yelling at them for being cruel to animals isn't going to do much except make them buy two just to be a d*ck. Back to the story, though. The OP is just jealous and cares way too much about what other people do.
It’s like saying you’re dumb and unethical for shopping at the mall instead of Goodwill. We’re all overspending compared to someone else. If it offends you, it’s your problem.
In India the gender roles are steeped in that it becomes so difficult to untangle from it, however modern you are. I know a lot of my friends who rejected learning cooking or kitchen activities because it felt forced and the same was not expected of boys. When me and my friends moved out, or now living with partners, we did learn cooking, childhood favourites, essentials. It's not that we are not capable of cooking, it's the rejection of the expectation that girls should learn cooking as young as possible but the same is not applied for boys.
Also I have to add sometimes it feels like because women are expected to cook most meals it is more of a chore? Then less time and effort is put in it. Especially if you're also working or/and raising children. While men in my area tend to cook at special occasions or on weekends (like my parents in law). So it is more like a hobby or a flanting moment, hence it is generally nicer. So I feel like where I'm from (nl) it's less a active rejection thing, but rather gender roles still infuencing our daily lives.
My German immigrant grandma spent holidays cooking and expected my mom too as well. When the food was done it was customary for the men to eat first. My amazing mom chipped away at this year after year! I remember her shoving me to the table when I was little saying things like, "The kids are hungry, time to feed them!" She helped in the kitchen to be kind untilllll a misogynistic comment came from one of the men like "Hurry up women, I'm hungry" usually from my grandpa. Then she was DONE! Sit down have a cold drink done! haha
This made me think of my own mom. She was the daughter of Austrian immigrants, and definitely dealt with/refused to tolerate a lot of scheiße (much of which was sexism) particularly from my grandmother. My grandmother has always given special treatment to all the boys in the family (which was absolutely something she experienced from her own mother growing up), and while my mom didn’t have any sons, I know she wouldn’t have tolerated playing favorites with her kids because one was born male. Hell, she didn’t tolerate any favoritism with her four daughters, when my grandparents helped my oldest sister out financially, my mom advocated for us all to get similar help when we needed it.
100% would divorce my husband. Not only did he abandon our elderly pet but he also called our SEVEN YEAR OLD DAUGHTER an asshole????? Like are you for real? Id throw hands tbh. The fiance is stupid to be mad at her man for taking $2000 for a cancelled flight. Thats just making yourself mad for no reason. He said the plane got cancelled. Who cares at this point? Shes angry for no reason bc she is in her feelings. I get being depressed but at the end of the day you need to be able to be alone bc you wont always have someone there for you. This is coming from a very depressed woman who just had a miscarriage while her husband was gone for a month. Stuff gets hard but at the end of the day you got $2k. Shut up.
Would absolutely divorce that guy. That's some deal breaker shit to me. And not as bad, but if my bf turned down 2 grand for legit no work, I'd honestly be kinda ticked, coz that's stupid as hell.
One funny thing that my dad said recently was “your brother suffered from a classic male problem related to their perception of the speed of sound - you tell them something when they are 15 and they hear it at 30” and honestly it’s one of the best lines I’ve heard. Maybe that guy will hear the Barbie movie at 30 😂
My younger brother used to work in a supermarket and got really pissed off at all the smoking breaks that staff would take, so he started taking "crisp breaks", he told his manager he was addicted to crisps and needed to eat multiple packets a day. He would go outside and stand on the other side of the carpark eating a packet of crisps whenever the smokers went out to take a smoke break. Needless to say he got really fed up with crisps as he was consuming way too many packets, but kept doing it out of principle.
I used to smoke and I always said it was unfair. That other people should be allowed the same breaks. 5 or so minutes to stretch, walk songs, check their phones, whatever they want. Just get some fresh air. That's fair for everyone. Cool. You get your little breaks, everyone does. Then again, I also worked on the service industry. And for me, I was only taking smoke breaks if they're was the time to spare. If it was busy and there was money to be made, then you bet on not going anywhere for the next 3 hours of this rush. Cuz above all, I'm trying to get my money. Hell, when it was slammed, i was lucky if I got 3 minutes to pee
Holy Hell! That guy has some nerve calling his wife the ah when he dumped their family member (pet) in the middle of nowhere!! I'd have serious concerns about the marriage after that. Yikes!
@@bottomofastairwell well yeah, no doubt. But I couldn't want to tell a stranger online to get divorced. It feels icky. But for myself. Yeah, NOT gonna work. Lol
I started taking cake-breaks at one job. Where éverybody smoked but me. Ended up getting yelled at by my boss. My answer? " so... you are ok with them fueling their nicotine addiction. But not ok with me fueling my sugar addiction?" He had no reply and just stormed off. I quit 2 months after that.
For the dinner sharing post, you missed the very important context (that was only in the comments) that SHE WAS LAID UP WITH A BROKEN LEG AND THEY LIVE IN A 4TH FLOOR WALKUP. So she was relying on him 100% to get food for her. And the bodega he offered to go to has a deli counter, but it was closed at that point. Bro was seriously just trying to make a point to his girlfriend who literally couldn't do anything about it.
Yikes that's so much worse. Ya know, I was already thinking.. if the sitch would have been switched and she got all the amazing food and he got.. some grilled salad lol ..would he have asked to share?
Another thing I think was missed is that she didn't want to spend anymore money (queue not-so-humble brag about him making more money than her). He kept offering for her to do things that she would have to pay for, and she most likely couldn't afford to go through an app for delivery or whatever. However, she took a risk. I'm the kind of person where, if I took a risk, I would just deal with the consequences. Like, I hate soup with a few exceptions. I would've eaten it anyway. I would've hated it, but that's the chance you take not ordering what you specifically want. That's why I said Everybody Sucks. 😂😂😂
I will never understand people like that. Don't you care about this person? Don't you WANT to do things to help them or make them happy? Anytime we go or to eat, if my bf orders something I even MIGHT be interested in, he offers me some. I do the same. Coz we care about each other. I will never understand people who just do these dickhead things to prove points instead of being a good partner. Coz like, don't you care about the person you're dating? And if you don't, either work on yourself, or don't be with that person.
so glad y'all are still doing the podcasts. I can't do livestreams right now, so i'm happy to be able to get my simptendo fix in a way that doesn't destroy my phone battery. also as a person that's currently navigating homelessness i'll admit that when i hear an acquaintance of mine go on and on about the stuff they buy it does make me a little resentful, but i'd never dream of telling them to not purchase what they want. in that situation i'd probably tell OP brand person to just not go shopping with that friend anymore if it's really that big of a hot button for them, like how i just avoid talking about shopping and brands with my acquaintance. and if they really can't get over it then maybe they should reevaluate if that person should be in their life if they engage in a behavior OP finds that reprehensible.
When I was younger I definitely refused to learn to cook for a “rejection of societal expectations” but then I realized how limiting not knowing basic life skills is. And it became very important for me to learn and be a self sufficient, full person. That said my (male) s.o. Is a much more talented chef then me. I think it’s the difference between doing something because you have to and doing something because you enjoy it.
Lol I remember working at a kid’s buffet/arcade place (my personal hell) for a year in 2014, there was an older woman who would take a smoke break every 15 minutes while I did most of her job 🙃 Also that sister in law is the perfect example of someone who’s already going to be a horrible mom if she’s offended by a HAMSTER lol That husband… he belongs in the “am I the devil” subreddit. But his reaction to his daughter and wife REALLY says how much he disrespects them and how selfish/dangerous he is.
I would LOVE a mystery food box from a fine dining restaurant. Or just a place that makes their own food. I've worked in a lot of sorts of restaurants, but usually places that make their own food, they give away the food to the employees or throw it out after a day or two because it won't be "the best quality". Not because it's about to go bad, but because the food is like... A left over you put in the fridge from the day before.
Yeah the sexist family tradition is a problem specifically because it's sexist. It's not just about doing something you don't want (though it's also weird to force your guest to do something against their will, even more weird to make them do chores lmao), it's about the concept of "because you're a woman you have to do X" that makes it really icky. I am a woman and I love cooking, but if someone says I must cook because I'm a woman I'll refuse out of spite.
I get Ben's thoughts on the cooking thing. People should be able to cook for themselves as just a general life skill. I think more young men cook now because they don't have a wife right away to do it and they want to eat nice meals. But a lot of young women (including myself here, at 33) feel less compelled for whatever reason, and don't want to be responsible for cooking dinner. I only started doing it because I quit my job and wanted to feel useful, and then kept doing it so I could be in control of dinner.
so happy to watch other episode! I start school tomorrow and I’ve been really stressed about it but watching and hearing you guys talk makes me less anxious!
Back when my mom was in her early 20s (in the ealry 90s) she was also annoyed that smokers just got a break every hour, so she started going out too. She didn't smoke, but was like well if they get to, then I get to. I think they were surprised but didn't do anything about it, so she just got a break. Also, not to advocate for smoking, but my dad smokes, and he says its actually really good for his work to take a break and walk around. Many times he'll be struggling with a problem and the answer comes to him while taking a break. So, don't smoke, but taking a 5 minute break every hour is actually healthy, especially if you work in a field where you have to do more thinking. But even in other ones that are physical, it just helps regain your strength so you can work more efficiently.
I’m sure someone has already commented this, but Amy is a character from Sonic the Hedgehog. That’s probably why the kid decided to name the hamster Amy, since the character is a female hedgehog in Sonic’s crew.
the app regarding the food waste is called Too Good To Go in case anyone's interested! the whole idea of it preventing food waste is that the food leftover at the end of the place's work hours would be thrown out anyways because they can't serve it the next day. so instead of it being thrown out it would be sold at a fraction of the price. i love using it and sometimes you don't luck out but you gotta read the reviews for that mainly because i've overall had a great experience. for example i got a bag from eataly(the italian grocery store here) with $36 worth of breads for $12 and it lasted us a whole month!
You guys got me into AITA reddit and I have been so active over the last year or so lmao I love it. Brings so much insight into other people's lives, how people work, etc.
7:11 We actually have apps like that in Toronto too, it's usually unsold food, delivery orders that no one picked up, or extra from batches made. A lot of the bags have expiry times to get them on the apps so they're not selling anything that isn't food safe, it's just a way for restaurants to still make some money off perfectly good food that was otherwise going to be thrown out.
@@annarainexo Yes it's good! Honestly the options depends where you'll be staying in the city but the app I use is "Too Good to Go" there may be other apps out there too but that's the one I use. Also I'm not sure where you are but I think they expanded to Hamilton recently? Anyway, I hope you score some good deals with it!
Also as someone who used to work in a restaurant sometimes we just made too much food, so the employees would get it before we had to chuck the rest of it
The app that the op in the first story is talking about is called Too Good to Go. I order from there sometimes, and every time I have ordered, their portions have been pretty massive. Definitely not something I could eat by myself in one sitting...OP was definitely just being selfish not sharing with his girlfriend whom he supposedly loves. If he had given half of the BBQ to his gf and had some of her soup, they could've both been satisfied. Edit: in answer to Cristine's question, different businesses sell their food on the app. For grocery stores, it'll be food that is nearing or just slightly past its expiration date so they can't sell it at full price. For restaurants, it'll often be food that they made the day before, and therefore can't sell full price to customers because it's no longer fresh. They can't give away other customers' leftovers 😅I'm pretty sure that's a health violation
For me, theres a cap on luxury quality vs regular quality. Meaning, i think designer or luxury items can be higher quality but there’s a limit on how much better the quality could be. Coach and coach outlet are my favorite bags. The quality is way better than a target bag but is Louis Vuitton significantly better than coach? I dont know, i cant afford LV but thats my point. There’s a cap to how high quality a product can be while the price can climb higher without improving the quality to justify the price. Overall though, people can spend their money as they please. Just because Im too broke for a LV bag doesnt mean other women cant buy one.
The issue here is how you define "quality". If two handbags are identical- same leather, same stitching, same packaging- but one is made entirely by hand in Italy or Japan, and the other is made mostly by machine in Vietnam or China, would you say there's a difference in quality? In terms of materials themselves, if one shirt is made of regular good quality cotton, and the other is made from ELS cotton that comes only from a specific region in Egypt, does that constitute better quality? I may not really care what kind of cotton is in my shirt, but if there is an objective material difference, does that justify a price increase? It's easy for us all to agree that a plain t-shirt with a tiny Off-White logo is not worth $565 by any stretch of logic. But when it comes to luxury goods overall, it's a lot more nuanced than just luxury=scam or luxury=ego.
I think its important to note, when talking about buying expensive clothes, there's an ethical argument towards buying more expensive things IF the expense comes from properly paying the people who design, manufacture, ship, and sell those items. Buying a cheaper version of something could be just as unethical if you have the option to spend the money on something that is ethically made. Not to say luxury brands aren't also using sweatshops and buying materials from places with horrific working standards, they absolutely are, but buying a specific brand or paying more money to ensure that the person making the garment was paid a liveable, if not thriveable wage is good actually. If you can.
Yeah, there's definitely a big difference between buying high-quality, ethically-sourced clothing that is double or triple the price of, say, Target clothes, and buying something that costs an exorbitant amount simply for being a name brand known for exorbitant prices. One is being conscious of your cost-to-value ratio and wanting to be a responsible consumer, and the other is, like Ben said, merely about the brand. Not that buying Gucci or Prada or whatever is inherently "wrong"; if you honestly like something and you have the money, go for it. But at the same time remember that the value isn't in the quality and that's not what you're paying for.
Agreed! I love to buy designs from small artists with good materials for midline prices. $50 for a skirt with a beautiful artist’s print on it and sustainable materials? Hell yeah. I’ll turn down 5 $10 skirts to save up for the eventual 1 $50 skirt. This is my compromise, and I’m lucky to be able to make these choices.
My husband and I went to see Barbie and he loved it. When movie ended some guy behind us said to his friends "6/10 cool comedy but really shallow depiction of men". Hubby and I blew up laughing!
raquel is still a common name in portugal. when i hear raquel i think of the mean girl from the barbie tv show as well as this rich brat i went to school with
That dog husband...holy crap. That is a real life narcissist and I hope the woman filed for divorce with 100% custody of their daughter. He is dangerous.
I have a cat and my boyfriend knows I'd have a stroke if he got outside because he'd run away the moment something scared him. I don't know if I'd shut down or go into a blind rage.
Same! I would totally lose it, and there’d be no question about whether I could stay with such an evil person. No freaking way! I would also press charges.
Anyone that would take my 13 year old dog and leave it outside to fend for itself is never going to talk to me again; forget marriage, children, house, or how I found out this information. Clearly our priorities are in two very different places. This is the worst AITA I’ve heard on this podcast yet. The women in the kitchen one is almost as bad.
I hell I would raise if someone ever took MY dog and dumped him in the middle of nowhere. Like, who tf do you think you are? I'll break your kneecaps, lose my number...
💯 agree! They would be dead to me, and I would do what I could to press charges and make them suffer some consequences for their evil actions. Total monster!
I also agree. I'm a pretty forgiving, tolerant person on the whole. But this...he would be gone...out of my life forever. Oh...then tack on calling our daughter that name? No words.
That dog abandoning story was so heartbreaking, but at least they found her and she is safe and sound. How could someone be so cruel that they could desert their family pet just like that. I feel so sick in my stomach.
My sister-in-law loved the name Sophia for her daughter. However, our cousin has a 13 year old cat named Sophia. She named my niece Sophia anyway & it's all fine. No one gets confused about which Sophia is being discussed & no one is upset about her having the same name as a cat in the family.
Second story in: as someone who doesn’t always look at the screen when I’m watching (I’ll be cleaning or whatever) it’s so bothersome how Ben doesn’t read the full story. The context of why the OP was willing to walk to the bodega mattered, to skip over it just bc you personally don’t think it needs to be included (assuming) is just…odd. When I heard “bla bla bla” it prompted me to look at the screen and read myself and I’m glad I did. Please just take the couple extra seconds to read the full story. That is all. Or just have Christine do the reading. I don’t understand why he does this. Edit: also how he didn’t even read op’s last defense just trailed off during the second one “and….yeah” Like if you don’t wanna read the stories and are tired and just wanna wrap it up, don’t read them at all. It’s so genuinely strange to me how and why he does this.
As someone who does buy luxury goods, I stay far away from anything covered in the brand’s logos. It just seems tacky to me. Almost like turning a person into a walking billboard.
I feel so acknowledged by what happened with the woman and her husband dumping their dog. And by what Ben and Cristine said, because of something that happened to me recently. I feel like it's so true that you never truly know what's going on in someone's head or you never truly know how they would react in a certain situation until it's too late! It's such a horrible feeling.
I have a friend with divorced parents. The dad stole the family dog, then sold it. Thankfully the family that bought the dog took it to the vet and found the wife’s information on the microchip. She was contacted to confirm she agreed to selling the dog and thankfully the family agreed to return the dog to her when they found out it was stolen. I’m not sure if she pressed charges against the ex husband or if she had to buy her own dog back. Either way it was one of the most horrible things I can imagine. The ex husband was rich and didn’t need the money. It was pure spite.
I don't see any other comments about that post :( If you got a bunch of soups and I got a bunch of BBQ - we share 50/50 and both have a complete meal. Am I crazy? Nobody else has said this D:
With the more men are cooking I think it’s more like a lot of womens hobbies go unnoticed, since it’s assumed women can cook well there’s more shock or attention or even its considered more professional, when a man says he cooks
I mean, my bf is the one that cooks in our relationship. But that's because I'm 1, lazy, and I don't LIKE cooking. it's work to me, not fun. And 2, I work at a hospital, with wild hours, and we're so short staged, I work a TON. so I'm always exhausted. He works a 9 to 5 as an engineer. And his job is a lot less taxing, both physically and mentally. So he cooks and he'll bring me food when he comes over. Works for us. But I think you're right and that it's just talked about more when a man cooks. Because that's against the typical norm, so when a guy cooks, there's more attention brought to it.
The fact that the older women and long term girlfriends get exempted from cooking is testament to the idea that they see cooking as lowly work and are assessing new women on how well they submit. Her bf should step into the kitchen with her and work at the very easy if he wants her to cook. That would make me feel better personally
The SIL is so dumb lol... I found it so adorable that the son asked why they couldn't share the name because he found it cool that his cousin would have the same name as his hamster. That sounds so wholesome... And then you have literally an adult being more inmature than a child. That says a lot about SIL.. 😂
The first half of this episode made me laugh so loud for like twenty minutes straight, and then the second half had me sitting here deeply contemplating every word that was spoken. The duality is what I love about this series
The smoke breaks are so frustrating as a non-smoker. I worked in a kitchen at 17 and was not given a break. Ever. But alllll the servers and busboys and dishwashers who smoked took multiple breaks throughout their shifts. I will never forget being so hot and overwhelmed and needing something from the walk-in fridge. While in there, I took 1 min to calm down and check my phone. The assistant manager walked in, saw me, and pulled me out of the fridge so he could yell at me in front of everyone in the kitchen. It was so degrading, especially considering I worked my butt off and never asked for days off, never complained, never took breaks, etc. That place honestly crushed me. I got my friend a job there and she was treated like an angel and I was treated as second best. I found out right before I quit that she was making significantly more money than me (I started a month before her). She worked hard too but constantly took time off for concerts and other fun teen stuff. I even skipped my prom and other dances so she could go… There was even an old woman who treated me terribly and blatantly told me to my face the only reason I got employee of the month was because I brought them my friend. She would give gifts and things to my friend in front of me, never me. This has been 14 years and it still bothers me… lol
lol I think buddy in the first story was embarrassed about his perception of being called out for using a bio break for the same exact reason that OP would go on a smoke break, because he's probably been called out on it before. He might have actual physical/medical issues that cause him to require a longer bathroom visit, but I think he just sits there and Candy Crushes it and was embarrassed that someone had the audacity to turn his own behaviour around on him, and time him for it. Edit: drive the husband out of state, throw his phone into a field, and tell him to fetch. Then fucking leave him there. He can find a farm and have a happier life. Second edit: PoiSoN ThE FoOd AnD FeEd ThE MeN had me crying laughing 🤣
That program to reduce food waste sounds great! I wish it was located in other places. I know from experiences and friends working in the industry that so many orders cancelled or wrong just get thrown away untouched. So sad as it could be donated or available for others. Also somewhere like Panda Express wants to get rid of the rest of the fresh food before they close for the day.
loved this episode and I love how you ended on the barbie movie one. I loved the movie, watched it twice. I cant wait to watch it again. Also I always think its a shame when people use the word Fall rather than Autumn. Autumn is such a pretty word!
The point Ben brought up about men maybe cooking ‘better’ than women now, I think that’s just because it’s more obvious now, how women would’ve been if they’d had the chance. Before they were forced to cook and they had to be good at it and constantly evolving to keep up appearances. Both in front of men and women, now that they don’t have to do that you have the women who have real interest in cooking doing so and women who don’t, not. Also I think men now have more chances to cook as well, from necessity and from less stereotyped roles. So the numbers are probably just evening out. At least that’s what I think.
I once heard the phrase that women of past generations were ‘enlisted’ into the kitchen. And I can’t get it outta my head. Like, of course men are getting ‘better’ at cooking, they’ve been given the opportunity to learn something that they can enjoy. Whereas for women, not only was being in the kitchen an obligation, but it was an unrelenting one.
in terms of home cooking, i think thats definitely true. however in the professional cooking world, much of it is male-dominated, like many other professionalized hobbies and skillsets (think things that are associated with the home or femininity like art, music, baking, or gardening). prominent chefs are often male, we know many more male painters or male classical composers. even today, many popular cooking channels like josh weissman, josh from the mythical kitchen (tho which gets a pass bc theyve got a way more diverse team), alvin zhou, or babish. i love seeing men (really anyone!) in the home cooking/baking sphere (: anyone who wants to cook, can and should! i certainly have a lot of fun bonding over cooking/baking with my partner ^^
I definitely did mean it in a home cooking sense. All the most famous chefs I know have always been men, another unfair gender disparity there. Not that those make chefs don’t deserve recognition.@@smoliv55
Well that idea is certainly about a progressive west which does not exist for many….. but the skill and necessity of cooking is not something one sex is inherently better at or evolves to be better at, food also depends on individuals taste.
In NYC, $36 of BBQ may actually not be a ton. Food is just expensive here, a single bagel can cost $15-20 so BBQ of a normal 1 person portion is prob in the $30 range.
The app from the first post is called Too Good To Go! We have it here in Canada in lots of bigger cities, including Ottawa😊 it’s a great way to save a little bit of money and try out some restaurants that you’re curious about. I especially like ordering from more specialty shops (think bakeries, pizzerias, etc.) because you already have a really good idea of what kind of things you’ll get. The food is always still good and not bad for you to eat, just leftovers if they’ve made too much and can’t sell it all (again for bakeries you usually get the pastries from just the day before and they’re still so delicious)
Amy is for Amy Rose Hedgehog - a pink hedgehog from the series. So, the kid was keeping it in the Sonic family, not related to the SIL's kid. Too funny.
The guy who took the dog to another state and abandoned it can never be trusted alone with that dog OR with the child. That sets off every red flag. He is only mad that he got caught in evildoing, so he has to complain about her invading his privacy. He is TRASSSHHH
Cristineee! You can take your hoodie to any clothes shop and ask them if they can take de security tag for you. They usually do it without asking or maybe asked you for the recibe so they can check that is not stolen from somewhere else, but is not that comon. I always do that whenever it happened to me.
There are plenty of luxury clothes made by brands that don’t have the logo on them. The quality argument doesn’t hold up if people specifically choose the clothing with the brand on it vs. what the brand makes without the logo. They want to been seen in the brand.
I love thé mystery box service. It’s a matter of food that is made that someone can have. I agree that I prefer ordering food I want, but when I’m broke it’d be so nice to get a cheap meal. Also working in food service there’s so much waste I would have loved to be able to take home or give away.
I don't think the service is available here, but if it was, I'd definitely choose a restaurant where I could, literally, eat anything and everything on the menu. I'm not terribly picky. I'm not a fan of most soups, but I will demolish wonton and egg drop soup. I'm also not a fan of seafood. I think that's it, though. So, if we had the service, I would avoid any restaurants that serve soups, seafood or seafood soup. 😂😂😂
Oh, I've also worked in food service, and we had people come all the time asking for the food we were going to toss out. If a certain manager was working that night, we would double bag it and put it in the dumpster gently. Of course, we would inform the person first so they could decide if it was worth it. The other two managers didn't care, though. Better than wasting it.
I have an aunt that loves expensive brands and makes me and my mom feel like she thinks she is better than us because we like things that are not branded.
I bought this $25 purse on Amazon because it was the right size, color , shape that I liked. Then someone started to gush about me having a designer bag...I guess mine is a knock off. Oh well. Life is strange. 😂 So do they think less of me for owning a knock off or not knowing I had a knock off?😊
trying to force a child to change the name of their pet because you want it for your baby is insane. either YOU choose another name or you grow up and realise it’s a literal rodent 😭
Yeah is someone gonna tell her there are other girls named Amy too lol
Literally. Also it’s a MIDDLE name which is pretty useless
especially since its a pet not leaving the house. its not a dog thatll come along to places so like why are u bothered by a - like you said A LITERAL rodent. that will only live 2-3 years
If this happened in my family it would be a funny story
"Oh sweetie did i tell you we named you after your sister's pet rat!"
Amy's not even a unique or special name lol just pick another name for your daughter and let the literal kid name his pet
amy is the name of the female "love interest" in sonic. that's why the kid named it amy
holy shit that’s adorable
They aren’t always dating, though. Sometimes they are just great pals
mvp comment ⭐
Came to say this! Kid really thought it through, just sticking to canon (y'know... if hedgehogs were hamsters lol)
She should tell her that, and see the mom’s face knowing she can’t change the cannon of Sonic the Hedgehog lol😂
Divorce the husband who left the dog, and press charges for animal cruelty. How could you ever live with that monster again after that.
I love how Ben suggested that was an instant divorce, and Simply went straight to criminal charges. Yes, kick him out of your life AND lock him up.
I don’t even know how he could live with himself after that! But I guess monsters are gonna monster. I’m glad they got their dog back but man, what a betrayal. 😢
Apparently OP was looking for a lawyer and doesn't trust him anymore.
@@b.c.9358I don’t blame her, I wouldn’t trust him either.
It's obvious that she is in a abusive relationship she needs to get out
The way I would divorce the husband in the dog story SO FAST. My jaw dropped!
right? poor dog could have died.
That story was insane. Grounds for divorce certainly
And it was a SENIOR DOG, wtf
The guy who dropped the dog...he at the very least completely and totally ruined his relationship with his daughter. She is never going to trust her own dad again and this will come up for years and years and years.
I love how Crirtine choose violence today LOL
The threatening whisper of “put poison in the food” made me do a double take 😂
she must have seen the (good-natured) comments on previous AITA podcast episodes about her not really picking a side maybe. so she went, "you want SimplyNotNiceLogical? I'll give you SimplyNotNiceLogical" lol
I would choose violence too if someone did that to my fur babies!
@@h33-q8w So you're not working at a place where bathroom breaks are punished?
@@sabinajohI mean, op isn't, his post stated the company doesn't care about that, so I don't see why that's all that relevant

I have never seen Ben look happier than when he talked about naming his hypothetical child's middle name, Sonic the Hedgehog. 🤣😂

The sudden poetic twist of "So furious was I" to convey a petty quarrel was so hilariously out of place, that it had me im stitches 💀
Maybe OP is German, that sentence structure makes 100% sense in German, even colloquially.

You put into words what I think is sometimes so difficult to describe, great comment
It’s dangerous, and the consequences of living in a patriarchy. It’s also stupid, cooking is not feminine or submissive
It was really annoying to hear ben defend that it literally *IS* that deep
Amen! Pure evil! 😭🤬
That story pissed me off so much!!!! I hope she divorces him. UGH
To think how that poor dog trusted and loved him... For him to betray her like that 😞 Absolutely unconscionable. I hope he isn't let near that dog ever again.
That made me think of the movie Strays and that man deserves the ending to the guy in Strays 👀💩
Abandonment is just evil in general, I hear about animals being dumped and it's depressing.
Yes, I've also seen a bunch of packs made up from what was left at all you can eat buffets on too good to go.
Yep, that's prob the app he used. Timing is just inconvenient and hit or miss in NYC unless you are in busy areas.
I love how unhinged Cristine is in this episode 😂
I live Cristine all the time :)
"KILL HIM" lol
Since I don’t see any comments mentioning it, Amy Rose is Sonic’s… love interest? Ish? Anyway she’s the main female character from the Sonic franchise so I assume that’s why the son decided to name her Amy instead of Sonic 15:00 🦔
Exactly this, and even more reason that the kid would be upset to have to rename it, it already IS a different Sonic character!
Ooooh ty for the context
They could tell the sister-in-law that - even if the kid renames his hamster her baby will still share a name with an animated hedgehog 🤷🏼♀️😂
hamsters only live an average of 3 years, so that's such a non issue 🤣🤣
Also it makes for a cute story about the name years later.
I used to have a foster dog who was named Arlo. My brother also named his new son Arlo. We thought it was funny, end of story lol.
I love to cook, but I wouldn't want to be part of that family. He can kick rocks if he's unwilling to help take a stand against that crap.
It’s not just rude, it’s dangerous!!
It's such a horrible tradition, and expecting someone to not only cook at someone else's house but to also expect her to do so the first time she meets the family?? I wouldn't go either!
Cristine yelling "MURDER!" is honestly a vibe I relate to today 😂
I was dirt poor during both my undergrad and grad, working 30-60 hours per week on top of going to school full-time. I never had nice clothes or expendable income. That being said, other people spending money frivilously has NOTHING to do with me. If someone wants to go spend $200 on a GUCCI t-shirt, that's on them. It doesn't make me feel any type of way. As long as that person can still feed themselves and isnt asking me for money, then it has nothing to do with me and it would be extremely rude of me to try to tell them to stop.
Agreed!
Beyyyy "What are we doing today!?"

Shut up.
I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you and your husband both had someone to lean on during your time apart.
Would absolutely divorce that guy. That's some deal breaker shit to me.
And not as bad, but if my bf turned down 2 grand for legit no work, I'd honestly be kinda ticked, coz that's stupid as hell.
right, mental sh*t can be tough but you can't only depend on someone to live, you're making your life harder
I knew it was going to be a good episode when Cristine started with "we're looking at assholes". 😂
The best intro ever 🤣
Just her and the Super Simps looking at assholes
Why isn’t anyone talking about how GOOD Cristine looks 😭💙💙💙
I have read stories about people pretending to smoke in order to get the breaks. Similar idea as your younger brother.
Yikes!
1000%agree.
it's manipulative behavior.
AND his 7 year old - disgusting morals.
Serious concerns? For me that's grounds for divorce. I'm sorry, but just no. Nope, that's fine evil crap. I'm done
Ya know, I was already thinking.. if the sitch would have been switched and she got all the amazing food and he got.. some grilled salad lol
..would he have asked to share?
@@bottomofastairwell this the real tea 👏🏼
so glad y'all are still doing the podcasts.
Lol I remember working at a kid’s buffet/arcade place (my personal hell) for a year in 2014, there was an older woman who would take a smoke break every 15 minutes while I did most of her job 🙃
Also that sister in law is the perfect example of someone who’s already going to be a horrible mom if she’s offended by a HAMSTER lol
That husband… he belongs in the “am I the devil” subreddit. But his reaction to his daughter and wife REALLY says how much he disrespects them and how selfish/dangerous he is.
I would divorce that husband in the dog story immediately. I’d go for full custody.
A left over you put in the fridge from the day before.
check if you have it in your city. I live in a medium city and we got 2
The dog one immediately had me screaming, "DIVORCE!"
Cristine yelling MURDER!!!! and then Ben saying KILL HIM!!! was SO funny lmao.
I do feel like everyone should learn how to do the basics, at least. Just for sheer survival.
so happy to watch other episode!
Omg me too!
I'm sorry the jerk who abandoned the dog is a straight-up psychopath 😳
7:11 We actually have apps like that in Toronto too, it's usually unsold food, delivery orders that no one picked up, or extra from batches made. A lot of the bags have expiry times to get them on the apps so they're not selling anything that isn't food safe, it's just a way for restaurants to still make some money off perfectly good food that was otherwise going to be thrown out.
I didn't know Toronto had this! Definitely will try it next time I'm there! Seems like a great way to save money and prevent food waste
I'm so enraged about the dog part, dafaq?!
I would divorce that maniac asap, not even thinking twice! What a monster!
My favorite kind of episode🩷
Hubby and I blew up laughing!
raquel is still a common name in portugal. when i hear raquel i think of the mean girl from the barbie tv show as well as this rich brat i went to school with
Aw :( I think of a really nice friend of mine. Not all Raquels!
That dog husband...holy crap. That is a real life narcissist and I hope the woman filed for divorce with 100% custody of their daughter. He is dangerous.
If someone ever did that to my dog, I don’t even know what kind of things I would be capable of !! 🔪
Edit: also how he didn’t even read op’s last defense just trailed off during the second one “and….yeah”
Like if you don’t wanna read the stories and are tired and just wanna wrap it up, don’t read them at all. It’s so genuinely strange to me how and why he does this.
omggg it irks me too. he definitely misses out on key stuff a lot. 😭
yeah this is why i unsubscribed tbh. haven't watched any of their content in a long time despite loving cristine bc ben is so tiresome.
As someone who does buy luxury goods, I stay far away from anything covered in the brand’s logos. It just seems tacky to me. Almost like turning a person into a walking billboard.
Yay!! AITA is one of my favorite topics that Simply Pod covers. 😁 I always love Cristine's and Ben's reactions 😅💜
"Death, to all of them!" 😂 I see that reference, Ben 💜
It was a lot of unhinged in this episode. Love it
Petition to have Ben try a cauliflower burger for the next pod.
I don't see any other comments about that post :(
If you got a bunch of soups and I got a bunch of BBQ - we share 50/50 and both have a complete meal.
Am I crazy? Nobody else has said this D:
My bf was more exited about barbie than me. We went with his friends, 5 guys and me, it is always nice to know he and his friends are good men.
Really enjoyed this one. That shade of blue on you, Cristine, is STUNNING. Skin looks great too. 😃
With the more men are cooking I think it’s more like a lot of womens hobbies go unnoticed, since it’s assumed women can cook well there’s more shock or attention or even its considered more professional, when a man says he cooks
Agreed. I don't think Ben's observation is actually accurate or fully representative.
I LOVE Ben's statement about using Barbie movie to weed out unhealthy men ti date.
The SIL is so dumb lol... I found it so adorable that the son asked why they couldn't share the name because he found it cool that his cousin would have the same name as his hamster. That sounds so wholesome... And then you have literally an adult being more inmature than a child. That says a lot about SIL.. 😂
Cristine being chaotic is my favorite.
Now I really wanna give any future kids I have the "sonic the hedgehog" as a middle name.
lol I think buddy in the first story was embarrassed about his perception of being called out for using a bio break for the same exact reason that OP would go on a smoke break, because he's probably been called out on it before.
My thoughts exactly, what if he had a hidden disability?
Cristine was in a wild mood for this one LOL!
Bens last words being “You wanna watch shrek later?… I don’t” Took me out 😂😂😂
That program to reduce food waste sounds great! I wish it was located in other places. I know from experiences and friends working in the industry that so many orders cancelled or wrong just get thrown away untouched. So sad as it could be donated or available for others. Also somewhere like Panda Express wants to get rid of the rest of the fresh food before they close for the day.
I would love to have that service here. It's sad how much food gets wasted at restaurants.
The last like 3 minutes of this video was my favorite.. I love these two. They make my day
loved this episode and I love how you ended on the barbie movie one.
@@smoliv55yes that patriarchy! Even things that are deemed feminine or submissive in the ideal nuclear home, are still controlled and dominated by men
Well that idea is certainly about a progressive west which does not exist for many….. but the skill and necessity of cooking is not something one sex is inherently better at or evolves to be better at, food also depends on individuals taste.
there are my favorite, please keep doing them! i love you guys 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I feel like Raquel is a pretty common name in the Latino world lol
Getting me through my Tuesday morning before work ❤
Best thing about having my birthday in Tuesday it’s hearing this podcast, love you guys❤
Too funny.
It wasn't teenaged at all, since they got the hamster before the SIL was pregnant/ announced it
The guy who took the dog to another state and abandoned it can never be trusted alone with that dog OR with the child. That sets off every red flag. He is only mad that he got caught in evildoing, so he has to complain about her invading his privacy. He is TRASSSHHH
these episodes>>>
