Ben's description of not feeling that warm, fuzzy feeling people seem to feel when around kids is so fucking relatable. There are so many people in my life who think that even the sight of a child should immediately fill me with joy, but for the most part I just don't care. I will absolutely be nice to kids if they interact with me because they're just little humans and it's not their fault they are the way they are, but I hate the expectation that everyone should clutch their chest and fawn over every child they see.

    • @Aniret1039

I just don't understand the duality of the matter. I like kids, I generally think they are cute and I like interacting with them. I also don't want kids of my own and I'd rather not be near them when they cry or they just pooped their diapers. And I don't have to, it's not my responsability and honestly the parents I have met generally understand that

I am on the team that does not like children in general and babies are not cute. But I also always knew that I wanted kids of my own, and I absolutely love my 1,5 year old.
And lots of people expected me to fundamentally change when I became a mum. But surprise, I am still me. Love my own kid but would rather keep lots of personal space between myself and all other children.

Yes, thank you!! Like I’m sorry but I genuinely don’t give a flying crap about your child. Every time I say I don’t want children, they’ll tell me that I’m just saying that now and that I’ll change my mind later. They just don’t believe me. Can’t wait to prove them wrong.

Even videos sometimes fill me with joy, teens will sometimes make my heart mealt (I work with them) and make me look forward until my kids are that age. I imagine if you don't have that, I can for sure understand why you wouldn't want kids as they are a lot of work and commitment

    • @allison_w02
      @allison_w02 Рік тому +12

Yes! I'm in the same boat of not wanting kids or having any fuzzy feelings around them. For me, I think the problem is not so much the kids (they're smart enough to know when to leave someone alone) but other people. Not everyone wants to be a firefighter, a chef, or a entrepreneur. The same goes for being a parent, and a lot of older adults (mostly gen x) like to give people shit about that. I've gotten so jaded about the topic over time because of the amount of people that give me a fake smile and say, "Oh, you'll change your mind". What's more is that, because I'm a young women, people tend to completely dismiss what I have to say either due to my age or because they equate womanhood to being a mom.
Edit: Also, I do acknowledge that there are people out there who take the extra step of hating kids and getting really defensive about it. There's people who don't want kids, and then there's people who don't want kids but are very rude and in your face about it. There's work to be done on both sides; Nurturing parental people can learn to be more respectful and open minded to childfree folks, and people like myself can learn to not drag down others because they chose to have kids. Food for thought on both sides of the subject.

Apparently I have an unpopular opinion because I'm with Cristine on the bringing food to a hosted dinner. Every time I am invited to someone else's home, I either ask if I can bring something (and have them suggest what to bring) or I ask if I could bring a specific food item. It's less work for the host and, like Cristine said, as long as it is being shared, it is more options. I would never be upset with someone if they wanted to bring a dish to my hosted dinner. The more food, the merrier. 😂

More options is more chances to make people happy.

To push back on the graveyard opinion, my local cemetery isn't just used as a place to bury the dead, it's also a wildlife sanctuary. There's peacocks and squirrels and deer that wouldn't have anywhere else to live in our mostly urbanized city. There's also a community garden. I don't have any family members or loved ones buried there but I love to go and just enjoy the nature.

I'll add to that, cremation is actually not environmentally friendly at all. It's fuel intensive and produces a lot of carbon emissions. There are more environmentally friendly options. In addition, a large graveyard in a city can also act as a green space for living folks to use.

About the children conversation: just yesterday I told my mom’s friend (I’m 23 btw) that I couldn’t ever have a child bc I don’t like the feeling of giving away my life to raise someone else in a world I don’t like (and many other reasons I won’t get into) and she told me “imagine everyone had the same opinion as you, there wouldn’t be any people left!” And I was like, yeah, that’s not the case obviously and I wouldn’t see it as a problem either, if nobody wants to have children then, let it be? Making it an obligation to keep alive the human race won’t make me suddenly want children

I think it's super common for people to bring things that could normally be considered a full meal as a thanksgiving "side dish" as a midwesterner, casseroles are a common side but are also considered a meal any other time. I'm bringing a whole baked Mac and cheese to Thanksgiving, which I would normally eat as a meal. Also, I've definitely seen people make lasagna as a dish for Thanksgiving. It's not the most traditional, but I've seen it.

Yeah. We definitely spread out the cooking between different people. That has been the norm for every holiday we’ve shared.

So long as you ask ahead of time to avoid duplicate food, I think it’s a great idea! When I was a kid, I saw my mom struggle making an entire Thanksgiving dinner by herself. I know she would have been extremely grateful if people had offered to bring different dishes. And in my Middle Eastern culture, it’s actually seen as rude to visit someone without bringing gifts or food, so I’m totally with Cristine on this one.

Regarding people being angry about other people not wanting kids:
I read a brilliant article about it a couple years ago. Studies have found that "society" gets so angry at people not wanting children because most people have had it taught to them as a social norm. They have complied or plan to comply with the norm and a lot of them aren't completely happy with it. If someone elects not to comply with that norm, they're actually (like measurably inside the brain) seen as an enemy

Cristine and Ben, regarding the cemetery question, me, as a deathling holofan, I reccomend the channel Ask a Mortician. Caitlin, the channel's host, has a funeral home and really dives (six-feet) deep on more eco friendly ways to deal with our dead bodies. For me, recomposition is what I want (basically turning my body into compost), but other options include a green burial (my second choice) or aquamation (water cremation, which dissolves de body and leaves ashes in a similar way to cremation). I know this is a touchy and sensible subject, but I couldn't reccomend Caitlin's channel highly enough. She is a really sensible, responsible, heartwarming and good humored woman, and her channel (and death positivity as a whole) deserves more credit.

If anyone is curious I googled the history of Black Friday in the United States! It all started because of the famous annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. The last float of the parade is always Santa Clause who declares the official start to the Christmas season. In the 50s and 60s companies used this as an opportunity to advertise on television their products for the holiday season and would encourage starting the shopping with a discount for the beginning g of the season. It became known as Black Friday because over time people would swarm to get their holiday shopping early and looking for deals, leading to chaos, particularly in the city of Philadelphia where the name was coined. This discounts and the chaos just got crazier over time.

In Australia Black Friday generally refers to a really bad bushfire day that happened a few years ago so when the sale version first started becoming a thing here we were all a little confused about why a really bad day in recent history had become a day for sales until we realised it was an American thing. Now it's more common place. Similar to what Cristine and Ben described, it used to be Boxing Day that was the big one.

Everyone has their own food preferences, I don't think it's a big deal if they don't want to eat something. We extend that courtesy to people who have dietary restrictions, I don't see why we can't do the same if someone simply doesn't like a certain food (especially because there could be a variety of reasons why someone doesn't like a food, but I think people should be allowed to say they simply don't like something and it shouldn't be a big deal)

Talking about the ticket debacle: I live in South Korea and the ticketing system here is completely different. Artists here have official "fanclubs" that you have to be part of in order to do presale tickets, and a lot of scalpers don't bother with buying the fanclub membership unless it's a huge group they know they can make that money back on. But even then, many of the sites limit tickets to 1 or 2 tickets per person so scalpers can't buy up a ton of them at once, and sometimes you even have to go through an ID check in order to be let in, so if the name on your ticket doesn't match your ID you'll be turned away which makes buying from a scalper basically impossible. It's not a perfect system by any means, but when I see the issues going on with American ticketing with surge pricing, the insane "processing fees," and the fact that half the tickets are bought and resold at double the cost by scalpers, Korean ticketing feels like a godsend.

The ticketing thing is just so different to how it works in Japan!! For many artists(jpop/kpop not sure about western artists) have a fanclub and you enroll in that with an annual fee(~50$). The ticketing first opens to FC, all the tickets are of the same price(~100$) and seats are assigned randomly. The tickets are also allocated via lottery if number of people wanting to go is greater than size of the venue. I personally like it a lot as one does not have to worry about price and has chance to see artists closer too even with the same amount of money.

America needs to adopt this structure and manage tickets this way but at the same time America has a double edged sword with freedom. We have too much freedom here so by default you have the freedom to be a casual fan or a Stan. Fanclubs are not a business here and it's made up by the public aka the young fans themselves. A label doesn't create a singular fan club here for everyone to sign up for. It would be interesting to see how that would be. That's why I don't feel sorry for her for this reason cause there are other ways to do it.

As for Black Friday - it was started by stores that were in "the red", in an attempt to get "back to black" in their financial ledgers before year-end. Nowadays, though, these huge corporations that are having the big Black Friday sales are usually just buying cheaply manufactured products, raising the prices in the weeks prior, and then simply putting them 'on sale' at their normal price, on Black Friday. I don't bother participating in many sales because the discount is so often manufactured, but I definitely benefited from the HT Black Friday sale, which I really appreciate, though I'd have put in the same order regardless. I think if you're hating children because they like don't know things is very different than not wanting to raise or be around them. I think you can still respect that children are learning many things in life and they do end up being adults eventually, but like hating children for being dumb is hard for me to understand, obviously they're dumb they haven't learned anything.
Disclaimer: I have no children. I have babysat/ have younger cousins. One day I would like to start a family because I want to.

A lot of people have been screaming about the monopoly that is Ticketmaster for years. The TM/LiveNation merger never should have happened. And one of the many problems with Ticketmaster is, they hire scalpers to buy up tickets so they can resell them at exorbitant rates. So yes, TM has the "verified fan" process, but they also have the ability to bypass that so their own scalpers can get tickets. They also do "official platinum" tickets, which is just more bs ways for them to jack up ticket prices. They have a lot of shady business practices.

I agree with the poster for the children one. There are people (usually teenagers or people in their early 20s) who never want to see a child in a public place and will go so far as to purposely talk about inappropriate things, curse, or say something like “Santa isn’t real” just to terrorize the kid and make the parent take the kid out of their sight. I get not liking kids and/or not wanting kids… but there is a level of entitlement in people that will say bad things to get children away from them in public, where the adult and child have an equal right to be there… that’s where kids are “overhated”

I hate using ticketmaster, it’s all fees, like there have been times the fees from ticketmaster are more than the actual ticket. And they let so many scalpers and third parties buy tickets and then sell them for outrageous prices and ticketmaster just lets it slide because they just collect on fees again when the ticket gets resold. Also getting refunds from them are like pulling teeth.

We have had this conversation about tketmaster(TM) in 2020 when BTS were having their concerts too. BTS had also not used dynamic pricing and to ensure that fans got to buy their tickets they made 2 presales. First presale was for verified fans (subscribed to their fan club) who got a code, and the second presale the day after was for the rest of the verified fans that didn't get a code. the day after both presales was the general public sales. Mind you previously there had been like 300k people in queue for 60k stadiums in every country so they knew there was huge demand. Because TM put every seat up for sale in the PRE-presale, everything was sold out in an hour and not even other verified fans got to buy tickets in the presale. We asked for explanations on how their system works and got no response from anyone. This method was supposed to minimize scalpers but it didn't even help with that and there were still many resellers who sold tickets which had an original price of ~60-500 (max price being gold VIP front row tickets with lounge and soundcheck entrance) for thousands of dollars. I'm glad someone's finally paying attention, even if it stings a bit that we had been ignored years ago.

what taylor could in my opinion have done in this situation is add another night or two because of the high demand. its what bts did for their tours. or something else bts did was rent out an arena nearby to livestream the concert in real time with the pyros and lights and everything. that's a great way to make more people part of the experience, specifically those who couldn't get into the stadium. that would also allow for more people to see her. of course the main thing that needs to change is ticketmasters reign over all these venues and touring companies but if she wants to work around that there are a few options she could try.
