  • A lot of you have asked us about the practical application of visual design, or in layman’s terms: How to tell a story with your miniatures. In this video, we cover what visual design is how to give visual contextual clues to define your minis and why they are important for the tabletop.

      It is a bit funny isn't it? Be chaos but not demonic so I guess the conclusion is to be subtle chaos hahah ~Sunny

      "Chaos but less demonic" was one of the reasons I picked Iron Warriors.
      That, and your video really sold them well.

    These are excellent! Personally I'm more about using your verisimilitude video to tell a story through the base. (Literally stealing from it for beach bases) Maybe some weathering effects on the model too. This level of detail on the model is waaaay out of my league! 😂

      Well to be fair most people aren't aiming to have something like this done for their table top unless they are on a creative streak but I do hope this video helps put a lot of what we have been saying in our other videos into context ~Sunny

    I think the Alpha Legion part of the models is too dark so it lacks contrast with the other legions... But the Omegon's wrath effect (lightning) is very good.

    I’ve only used Turbo Dork color shift paints. Their explicit advice is to do it over black (typically. They have a page per paint with specific instructions.) Then to keep applying thin coats until you get the magnitude of color shift you want. That lines up with exactly my experience when actually using them. I wonder if you had applied some more layers if you would have gotten to the level of shift you were looking for. I swear I saw a video which demoed that exactly at one point…
    Honestly though, I’m shocked you got any video which shows the color shifting. I’d given up on that and just rely instead in-person viewing.
    I found this video super helpful (even though I don’t know a damn thing about warhammer except what you two tell me. 😊) thanks! 🎉

      I can help with that! That's why I filmed and took photos of these guys in natural sunlight it was the only way I got the colourshift to really show up and boy was it worth it, I spent like 2hrs getting the right angle for all of these 🥵 But overall I am very glad to hear this video was helpful to you!~Sunny

    Great points and good end result. Important thing is the customer was happy with the result. I probably would have preferred a stronger contrast between the transition and the more electrical look of the actual transformation line but that’s personal preference

    Looking great! Im painting my World Eaters as if they're invading a modern day city. Some bases are as if they are marching down an interstate or side of the road. Some are standing on concrete rubble, and others have rebar and broken glass (not real glass, that would be dangerous lol) as if they've just ran through a building.
    They're gonna have such a cool and cohesive look to them when finished! Love the vid :)

      I hope some of what we said helped with understanding how to present things. What are you using for glass, rebar and concrete - Cal

    • @Lavendeer201
      @Lavendeer201 Місяць тому +1

      @WhatareyouPaintingnow normal base texture actually works well for concrete. Just add some gray and stipple some different gray colors to add natural variation. Additionally, I'll use cork as it can really look like broken concrete! Rebar is simply paperclips lol. The glass is crushed clear quartz chips! (That's a tongue twister lol) I wouldn't destroy a crystal, so I use the chips you can buy at hobby lobby etc and crush them up. They look just like broken glass!

    Don't want to bitch about how in the old days the grass was greener, but, with space marines, it was kind of easier to make story with each model than nowadays. Because each and every dude was supposed to have parts of the armor mixed from different patterns, and this by itself told a story. With primaris it's easier to tell the story with your whole army, by choosing a theme and sticking to it with all the models.
    But using older models bits is still a blessing.

    • @WhatareyouPaintingnow
      @WhatareyouPaintingnow  Місяць тому

      Can't say I disagree with you there if the Design vs Lore videos say anything, the older versions of the armour had more character before becoming Primaris 😕 ~Sunny

    I've been working on making my Krieg army have the theme of an army cut off it's suplyline.
    Do you think it's telling by
    - I've kitbashed Tempestus scions into Grenadiers to say that they have recycled other troops armout
    -Rebuilt a Leman Russ into a Chimera
    -Have the Quatermaster, the cheif of logistics, as Warmaster
    Any suggestions on how to present that theme more?
