Can you point us toward some of the books you referred to in number 7 please?

Sure :) They are published by AK Interactive and the titles are:
Figure Painting Techniques FAQ 1 and 2. ( You can get them in their webshop, or some other mini webshops like figone.fr for example)
So far they are fantastic. They are more focused on larger scale figures and busts, but a lot is applicable for 32mm scale as well.

I think number 4 is really the way. For me it give me the will to add technics to my contrast style and from minies to minies I see my skills enhanced 😊

Great advices. I especially like the last one: do not strip your models. Leave them as they are. Thanks to that you will see the progress you are making

Very good video, I'm interested in your perspective and vision of the hobby. I have to admit I'm a bit tired of "Do this incredible technique to be extremely fast and paint the best minis!" youtubers, and it's not that easy to find true advice that require patience and skill progression.

Yeah, I see that a lot as well. I think a lot of people look at painting as a necessary evil that they have to deal with so they can get to the actual thing they want to do, the gaming.
This leads to an endless search for a 'magic bullet' solution for painting. They want beautiful models, and they want them fast and with little effort invested 😅 which is of course impossible.
But this leads to content creators making constant videos with the next magical method all the time. And I can't really blame them too much since this is what people want to watch :D
I am trying to focus on creating content for people who are actually interested in the painting side of things ( while also trying to help people who want to paint fast occasionally because I enjoy that too once in a while 😉)

@@ph3lansminiatures Oh yeah, I definitely agree and see how this happened. But as you said, for people truly interested in the painting hobby, with the desire to "master" it, it feels exhausting to navigate on youtube :p
Thank you anyway good sir, we can definity feel your own passion towards painting and I'll try to learn as much as I can from you :)

i knew that the ghouls, etc in FEC think they're noblemen but it never occurred to me that the giant bats and other mounts think they're horses lol. FEC is the most fucked up lore of them all, they think they're sitting at a palatial banquet table when in reality they're crouched in mud tearing strips off a corpse.

To be honest, I am not sure if the mounts also suffer from the illusion, but I find it funnier if they do 😀 Before I read their lore, I thought they were just cool living dead dudes with some nice sculpts, but since I learned about the lore, they became one of my favorite factions. It is truly fucked up in all the right ways :D

2 questions.. ive been building/painting since last October. Black or grey primer and should i fully assemble my miniatures or part assemble

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  4 місяці тому

Those are difficult questions because the answer in both cases would be: It depends :)
I prefer black primer due to the way I paint my minies, but another approach might benefit from grey. For example, if you want to follow the games workshop painting method, you would probably be better off with a light grey primer.
As for the sub assemblies, it depends on the model. If we are talking about simple troops, I would recommend fully assembled. If you can't reach it with a brush you won't see it either. ( watch my 10 painting misconceptions video, i talk about it there in detail) If it is a complicated hero or display model, you might want to paint some of the hard to reach parts separately. Also, if there is something big sticking out, like the wings in my Pegasus knight video, then you are better off adding them at the very end.
