I brought a 'dormant' silver dragon for $5. After months of nothing I finally checked the roots and it was dead. BUT I found 5 corms! I wish I found your video sooner but I think I did good. My $5 dead plant gave me 5 babies and all of them are growing wonderfully now! 😊
I just put my corms in a jar & filled up the jar with just enough water to almost cover the corms. It’s been almost a month & now they are sprouting just like yours have roots!! I can’t wait to plant them into pots once their roots are long enough :))
It's like Easter egg hunting for adults!! LOL. I'm picking up my Silver Dragon on Sunday....can't wait to repot that guy and hoping to find a corm or two. 😁💚🌱
I just got my first Alocasia and purposefully bought one that I saw at least one corm in (when I know I’ll inevitably k!ll this first one😢). Probably looked like a crazy lady in Lowe’s digging around a bit in the soil LOL. So excited for these corms to sprout and try them in pon!
Yoow finding corms is really like a treasure hunting experience. It is my first time repotting my alocasia sanderiana as it already has grown so huge with little babies around it. While checking the roots, I found these little bulbs in the soil and said, wait a minute... I am sure I saw a vid in yt about corms. Gotta check it out! And here I am, watching your vid because I am not really familiar with alocasias 😂. Thank you so much for this vid. I learned a lot.
Thanks so much for the information! I have a lot of experience with philodendron and monstera, but recently I picked up my first alocasia on a whim from the hardware store. Brought 'er home, saw the corms and immediately thought "WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY PLANT" lol! And now I know, so thank you :)
I just noticed the tiniest bit of growth on my Polly corms. I have them covered in plastic wrap and can't remember (or find in your videos) if I need to uncover them yet or wait a little bit longer? Thanks so much for always answering all of my questions!!
Hi Melissa! I learn so much from your videos and reels. I was unable to find the little rectangular containers you put the corms in. Did I miss the link?
Yesterday I put some corms in some moist moss in a container... but definitely should have watched this first : P Gonna go back this evening and scrape the outer part off and also make sure I put them pointing in the right direction in the moss.
After 2 years I FINALLY got the nerve to check my first and only Ally for corms. Scooped her up from Home Depot so I'm guessing it's nothing fancy. Anywho, the durn thing has been giving me heartburn since day one, she'll attempt to push out a fourth leaf, it'll unfurl, firm and boom a leaf dies. Silly thing doesn't like having more than three leafs🤔. So I find five TINY corms...Well, one was a stick, two dirt clods and two corms, yay! I busted the root off one and scratched the bah-jeebers outta the other one, wish me luck 🥲
I like your video melissa to me a beautiful video and there are benefits .. Nice tips step by step..wow..good toturial grow is plant👍✌👌 I hope you continue to work and.give the best on your channel..I know you can and for sure one moment you will be more successful..I am always waiting for your video..thank you👌👍✌
It's winter already and I have mines inside but it's still growing 🤷🏻♀️under the grow light.. the leaves are not that big and colorful tho idk if it'll go dormant. I have a hilo beauty 😍
@@plantsbymelissa Thanks for replying. Turns out, today, when I was pulling apart my new Silver Dragon, I saw the corm on the attached baby plantlet, so cool!
In your closet, what do you keep inside it to promote moisture? I’ve been really interested in getting one! I’m assuming you have a grow light of some kind .. do the plants make their own tropic- like environment or do you encourage it someway with a humidifier? And does it hurt any of your alocasias, how do your velvety ones do in the closet? Thanks! I’d love some tips!!
Hi. Do you have any updates on this? My corms are taking ages to sprout, but they’re still alive and don’t show any signs of rot. Thanks for this lovely video. 🌹
Aw you’re welcome! I’m about to upload an alocasia collection and care video any minute and all the corms I have grown have sprouted new leaves within 3-4 weeks 🙏🏼
Do you have experience or suggestions with the Alocasia Zebrina Reticulata? I have my eye on one and can’t find any videos to describe the care/tips.❤😊
Thank you! I found my first corm sticking out of the top of the soil of my black velvet. My question is, can I store it dry until next spring, when I have a greater chance of keeping it warm and light to grow?
Hey Melissa, thanks for the video! I am getting some corms gifted from a friend of an Alocasia Polly, it's gotten very cold over here where I am though, we are approaching winter. We keep it around 20 Celsius inside the house through heaters, and I have plant lights - will this work for the corms to grow, or should I try to keep the corms over winter and plant them in spring when there is more natural light? Thanks!
I know I am a little late to the party, but I just stumbled on your video. I have corms in a little Tupperware terrarium growing in moss. They look fantastic so far, however today I noticed little itty bitty white dots. And then saw a little crawler. Are they good bugs or spider mites? I know you would not know without seeing first hand- but have you experienced this. I’m about ready to take them out and toss the moss and plant in dirt.
Hi! I started some alocasia corms yesterday in fluval and im wondering if too much humidity could cause a problem with success. Im using a plastic container, heating pad and grow lights. The condensation is pretty high. The top of the container and sides are extremely wet. Could this be a problem? Or is it okay until they start sprouting?
Can we also mention that Alocasia "juice" is irritating on the skin. I propagated my Silver Dragon a couple of weeks ago for the first time and didn't think to wash my hands after handling the corms before touching my neck. My neck flamed up in an angry red which lasted for a few hours. Scrubbed in cold soapy water to get it off and stop the irritation as soon as I realized it was irritating my skin, but still took a couple of hours for the itching and redness to go away. love my dragon, but her babies hate me.
I would say this depends on the environment they're in - if you are giving them great light + humidity year round then they should still grow for you. Some plants will still go dormant though. Mine usually give me a new leaf about 3-4 weeks!
I cant find an update video for these! Im trying to figure out if my alocasia babies are growing too slow or if its normal? My african mask is taking foreeevverr to grow a second leaf but my sarians are growing faster
I just repotted my Alocasia Dragon Scale from it's smaller baby pot into a bigger one. I keep my Alocasia in Lechuza Pon. Sadly I didn't find any corms... Can I do something to promote corm development?
I recently received a corm in coco coir and within days the growth point almost melted away. The corm itself is still firm and baby roots are still growing but will it produce a new sprout or is it done for?
Hi there! I would say it’s possible but I haven’t had this happen to me before. I wouldn’t give up on it if it still looks healthy! I feel like there’s always a chance it can still grow!
Just as a note for anyone about to attempt this process: WEAR GLOVES especially if you tend to be allergen sensitive, the SAP of alocasia is toxic and if you have it on tour fingers and happen to scratch yourself YOU WILL REGRET IT. A thorough wash will help but its painful when it happens. Be safe!

Great video! You’re the only person out of the videos I’ve watched that mentioned how long it should take to notice growth happening🙏🏻Thank you!
Thank you! It took about 3-4 weeks but I have four corms with leaves already! 🙏🏼

Thank you for this! I was just thinking about planting mine today and didn’t know how to approach the process. Thank you🥰
You’re welcome! Happy to help!! 🥰🙏🏼
This video was extremely helpful! Thank you .
You're so welcome!
Hi just wondering where do I find the containers at 10:00 mark . You mentioned you would link them in description.
just started some corms today thanks to this video! wicked helpful!
So glad!! Thank you! ☺️
We’re can I get the little glass containers I could not find them in your links
where do i find the little bins that you have your silver dragon corms in? those look handy! i need!
I don't have any alocasia & didn't know that! So interesting!
They can be a little picky care wise but I love them! 😁

Best video on propagating corms I could find!! Thank you!! Just subscribed, can't wait to see more from you! Your plants are beautiful.
Aw thank you so much!! I’m glad it was helpful! I think peeling them has been the best improvement for me in getting them to grow 🥰

I didn’t always scrape the brown part off until recently when I found out they grow faster! It definitely helps a lot! 🥰🙏🏼
I got my first alocasia today and am looking forward to getting corms someday :)
congratuations!! 🥹 I hope it grows well for you!!
@@plantsbymelissa thank you!!
Thanks for the information
Fantastic video thank you so much very helpful! I’m planting my first corms up as we speak! 🌱🤞🌱🙏
Oh yay!! I hope they do well for you! 🥰🙏🏼

Where did you get those sliding containers in your cabinet from? Thank you!
My corm is 5x5 inches😅 thank you for this video!
Super Helpful!! Just followed and planted mine cant wait to see what happens. CornerPlantStore
Yay! I hope they grow well for you! 🙌🏼🥰

Are Alocasia the only ones with corms? Never seen this before! It’s so cool 😅
It's winter already and I have mines inside but it's still growing 🤷🏻♀️under the grow light.. the leaves are not that big and colorful tho idk if it'll go dormant.
I have a hilo beauty 😍
If it doesn't have that black long stem at the bottom, will it possibly grow?
Thanks, so helpful. I keep wondering what happens if I leave the corms on the plant; i.e., do they eventually form a new plant?
Yay!! Glad I could help! They will! I’m not sure how long it would take 🙈 I feel like i don’t see that with mine. I like digging them out haha 😆

Thanks for replying. Turns out, today, when I was pulling apart my new Silver Dragon, I saw the corm on the attached baby plantlet, so cool!
Can you use perlite instead of moss?
Yes!! Perlite will work too! 😁
Where did you purchase your greenhouse?

Do the propagation containers need to get fresh air? I’m curious if you take them out to get some air every now and then
I don't use them anymore :) But I didn't open them a lot. I would occasionally open them up to check the moisture and water them.
I use fluval now to prop them and I leave them open in my cabinet!
do have to plant them back with the mother plant? or are they fine in a new pot on their own?
Nope! You don’t have to! Sometimes it’s better to pot them in a smaller pot so the root system can establish more :)
Is ur cabinet heated ? I have a mini green house but it says I can’t put my seedlings mat inside .
Thank you! I found my first corm sticking out of the top of the soil of my black velvet. My question is, can I store it dry until next spring, when I have a greater chance of keeping it warm and light to grow?
Yes you can store it just like any other plant bulb
@@_.J.D._ thanks!

What humidity do they need? And can you root corms in soil? :)
Thank you Melissa!! 💚 so helpful! My last attempt was an epic fail!! But now I know better what to do next time 🙌😀💚🪴
Hey Melissa, maybe I'm missing it somewhere, but do you have the link for those little clear containers in the video? Thank you 💚
What kind of mixture of soil for corms?
Can a alocasia produce corm being in pon

Can you do this with soil too? or should you always do Moss?
I haven’t tried propping them in soil :) there’s different substrates you can use but I just love using moss ☺️

Where are the plastic hanging containers from?
How long does it take a corm to produce leaves? And will they produce during the Winter months or are they dormant in Winter?

Hello! Could you please tell me the greenhouse name you use??
Is the updated video posted?
Can I ask why you place them back to the mother pot?
In my experience if you're dropping a leaf for every new leaf the plant needs a little more light
I just repotted my Alocasia Dragon Scale from it's smaller baby pot into a bigger one. I keep my Alocasia in Lechuza Pon. Sadly I didn't find any corms... Can I do something to promote corm development?
Help!! Why do my corms grow mold, even though they are not completely covered?
I recently received a corm in coco coir and within days the growth point almost melted away. The corm itself is still firm and baby roots are still growing but will it produce a new sprout or is it done for?

How much water? I was told they rot if they get too much water
Everybody says use a potting soil but which one? so many of them holds too much water
I can't find the link for the little bins in your cabinet 😭
You forgot to link where you got the container your corms are in
