@@davidgill7412 What about all the data I currently have on my normal PS3? Can I back that up and then transfer it to my system after it's been modded? Will I lose my save data if I leave it on there and proceed to mod it?
@@NintendanGX No. Modding your system won't change your games or save data. Using custom firmware gives me a few more backup options I normally wouldn't have.

i cloned the drive to a SSD 1:1 with any program longer ago as the PS3 needed maintenance/cleaning, worked well.
A PS3 with SSD is also MUCH FASTER than the ultraslow stock HDD when it comes to loading times from internal storage, but even USB is faster than the hdd+drive performance so it gets only better however you mod your PS3
Im wondering if any PS3 would accept a 1TB SSD or HDD?
Would be awesome to have 50+ PS3 games internally on it
I use fast USB sticks or ext. USB HDDs for games mostly since the 250GB SSD is still too small for a proper collection of games so i have to carry around the whole collection anyways on external drives
The PS3 is also a sadly already a bit „bulky“ but still awesome „streaming device“, even without streaming.
I reencoded in a queue a bunch of classic series which are nowhere to find in streaming services.
My PS3 has now internally some nice games, very few ps3 and most of them PS2/PSX (gran turismo and many classics, basically a „retro“ gaming machine) and besides that a bunch of highly efficient compressed „rare“ series.

For those who are stopped in the "memory editor" without being able to click, and with the plugin without running, just reset the ps3, put it in English, update the internet time and redo the process
So I went through the process from the beginning again. Sys settings >restart to default settings> new time and date via internet> and all that> got to the web browser portion and opened it and started at the beginning just like in the video ( clearing all the history and such) > closed the browser > open a new browser> then pick up in the process again. I needed to do this 2 times in 2 different occasions I was getting stuck. It went super fast the 3rd go round ;) annoying, yes, but it worked after two resets.

Thank You! Your tutorial had the missing info that I needed... I had everything but the knowledge of how to install the CFW via the System Update. Judging by the fact that my PS3 said "EVILNAT" upon boot up, it all worked!

OK, so there are quite a few videos showing how to jailbreak a ps3 however most don't work with 4.87 and very few are explained clearly. THIS is the one to follow, its clear, concise and best of all it works. Blain, great job and thank you, I have almost given up as nothing else works once 4.87 is on your system

Clone the drive with a pc to a bigger drive. Done. The cable is 7 bucks. Usb to sata. You'll love it, makes life so much easier

Everytime I click on bgtools I get no pop up, but it freezes once the new screen comes up. The cursor won't move I can't back out or anything.

Format the usb to fat 32 again and copy all the files back.
Make sure you test the internet connection again, then go back tonthe browser and do all teh steps again with deleting cookies, and all teh data etc.
Go to ps3exploit site again
Then to Main site and to Flash memory Manager (DONT GO ON "FLASH MEMORY AGAIN")
Try again the "Flash memory Patch" Option
DONE
You should now be able to it

@@jello6647 Make sure you did it correctly. USB formatted to FAT32, made a folder named PS3 then in that folder make a folder named UPDATE and then put the PS3UPDAT.PUP inside of that folder, and make sure the custom firmware update is named to PS3UPDAT.PUP

How do I replace the HDD once it's JB with your instruction? Do I need to use the original FW then do memory patch again? Or just go straight to the EVIL NAT FW for the new HDD?

Thats easy what you need to do is go to a site where to download iso games after that you go through filezilla enter your ip adress go to hdd0 PS2 and there you put the iso file and you done x) thank me later🤙🏾

@@blainelocklair only one glitch, after patching and reboot, my PS3 boots but doesn’t send video back to my tv only audio. Reboot into safe mode and reset resolution. After instelling the CFW, Same thing.

Hey, I had a lot of issues trying to update to this after having installed HEN. I did get it to work eventually on my FAT PS3. Followed the video and did all the exploits but when I tried to update via USB it would say no update found, When I tried to update from recovery it would say not a valid PS3 firmware for 4.87. I then tried to update to OFW 4.87 thinking it was an issue with HEN. Same error, no update found in XMB or provide a valid 4.87 firmware in recovery. BTW I ran the exploit about 3 times as well, all successfully. Eventually I reformatted the memory stick using the standard windows quick format, FAT32, default cluster size. Copied over the EVILNAT firmware and it recognised the update in XMB so I tried to run it...error you already have the latest firmware...FFS!!
So I then went into recovery to try it since it had recognised it at least in XMB, and low and behold it went through. Now running on the EVILNAT Firmware which is so much more convenient than HEN (although thanks to HEN I was able to get by for a while - Cheers HEN team). I also had some issues running games with freezes and reboots required (File System check bs!). Anyways it all looks to be running pretty stable and so far all games tested worked.
PS: I didn't run the hen exploit before trying to update. Just bootup and try it.

Restart your ps3... And make sure your date and time are correct.... For some reason wasn't working for me and since I restart it and also notice that the internet didn't update my date and time properly I put it manually the correct time... (was 1 hour incorrect) since then it worked right after this steps... Goodluck 👍
