You don't have to jailbreak it then. If you want to update your CFW to the newest version, all you have to do is place the new CFW on a flash drive, name it PS3UPDAT.PUP, place it in the PS3\UPDATE\ directory in your flash drive, then in PS3 system settings Update from USB and you'll be up to date.
Absolutely. In fact, if you're already running custom firmware on your PS3, you'd only need to just install the new CFW right over the old one. The PS3 would already have to have been patched to install the older CFW so the new CFW will slide right in.

I think you'd probably be ok, yes. As for PSN, I wouldn't play online with a CFW-modded game system. Worst care, you wouldn't get your account banned, but you MIGHT get that specific console banned.
I know what you mean. I wish I had an understanding of why the jailbreak hasn't progressed past 9.00. I can only assume that something got patched by Sony with 9.00 that just hasn't been worked past yet.

I used to recommend multiMAN. It's still a thing but hasn't been updated since 2019. I'd recommend webMAN and IRISMAN as great first installs on the newly jailbroken PS3 Both get regular updates and are super useful.
Not sure. The downloadable file in the video description is the right CFW file from PSX Place. Maybe double-check to make sure the patch was accepted and be sure to restart the PS3 before attempting the CFW install.

You'll be fine. Most of these official software updates are designed around content licensing changes for things like movies and music, for example. Probably a dose of CFW breaking splashed in for good measure too, but mostly changes to licensing. If you're happy with 4.90 and don't want to update, you'll be good to go.
Thank you! I'm actually just using the darkest background color available in the themes. Then I turned down the brightness of the theme until the background was nearly invisible. Kind of just makes things easier to read, especially when it all looks pretty darn small on mobile devices.

I’d recommend using other devices for media consumption, so as to cut down on the hours logged on your gaming device.
