Still using mine till now, those PC are built like tanks. I modded the Bios to instaall a Xeon cpu (E5450), 8GB RAM, 250GB SSD + 250GB WD Caviar Blue HDD, 4GB Graphics card and WIFI Pcie card. Can still play some games or do productivity work.
for sure, going the Xeon route would be really cool and if you can get one used plus a used gpu you'd have a really good budget gaming build. I'm definitely keeping it in mind for future projects.
I learned a thermal paste cleansing hack from Colton over in Hardware Haven: coffee filters. Using them with isopropyl made cleansing so much easier and dont have to worry about them falling apart like some paper towels. Can use the same filter to clean a lot of surface area
Picked up a scrap Optiplex 745 in a bundle of other stuff, tried an appropriate CPU (only 65nm models supported) and no go, bought a replacement motherboard and it was flaky as hell, only later did I recognise a serious case of badcaps, another motherboard later (how much have I already spent on this 💩) and then it was working, then I got an alert that the Q6600 was in stock (CEX) at a ridiculously low price (P&P was more), then I just had to get a low profile GPU. It also ended up with 4x 2GB RAM from another bundle of junk. Still don't know what I'm going to do with it, I might end up turning it into an XP retro box to run my friend's knitting machine, which they currently run from bootcamp on their Mac
XP retro gaming PC (or XP box for running older software that just flat out refuses to work on newer OS'es) would be my first port of call, though XP 32-bit won't be able to use all 8GB RAM. So I'd also probably dual boot with Windows 7.
Hi. Great video. I never blow air when the CPU socket is empty. Dust could attach to the pins. I leave the CPU there for cleaning amything in the case. A E7500 is a regular dual core. Not a celeron. It could make an XP retro PC ( 98se? ) or a basic Win7 or 10 PC with enough ram. A trick: for testing or formatting anything, you could try UBCD boot disc. You would need to burn it but it is worth it. Most old PCs have a CD reader. Another trick: old hard as cement thermal paste melt with lighter fuel. Then alcool cleans.
and don‘t touch the CPU and GPU Heatspreader and Cooler before applying Thermal Paste or Liquid Metal as the fingerprints you leave on the Heatspreader will reduce the function of the Thermal Paste.
Not bad, 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duos, now these would be great as old Windows XP retro gaming setups, since you've got the clock speed and it's a dual core. Windows 7 would also work reasonably well, although not with 2GB RAM (I'm surprised these are DDR3 knowing they are core 2 duo CPUs, a lot of Core 2 Duo's used DDR2). Windows 10 doesn't play nicely with Core 2 CPU's, and drivers are more likely to be a problem than with Windows 7/XP.
Oh hey, that was a really nice video but what picked me up all along was the yellow subtitle. It's contrast-y or how can I say it (hard to look at). I really suggest changing this. Other than that, the overall narration was pretty good! Keep it up man! I'll be waiting for the next video ig.
Made the mistake of buying a modular PSU for one of mine (8 pin CPU connector vs the 4 pin on the motherboard) now I have to get one from a donor PC. I would’ve thought that PSU CPU connectors were still 4+4.
Some people say not to use an air compressor on pc parts. I think it's fine. Just be careful not to get it to close to the board, and make sure to hold fans in place while blowing them out.
@@ScuffedPCs they’re very affordable nowadays! If you want some really special, buy a bigger one (maybe 32Gb or higher) and look up “Ventoy”. You can have files and multiple utilities/diagnostics on the same USB!
Ey!! I've been looking at fixing up a few of the PCs around the house. It really is satisfying once you get them up and running, great work!
OH MY GOSH! I CAN ALREADY TELL THIS IS A SCUFFEDPCS CLASSIC!!!

I love hardware haven, his channel is partially why I started mine. I would try this, but I dont have coffee filters lol.

Im thinking about putting linux on them I just don't have a use case for it.

Well Done Sir!

thanks for the advice, also thought the subtitles were kinda off, definitely gonna try and switch up. Thank you so much!

Typically the 8-pin divides into two four pins. However these OEM pc's can have weird psu's with funky connectors.
you should alwase turn the pc's on befor doing things to it. So you know for sure that you didnt do something that make it worse.
dont worry i did :D
When will episode 2 be released?
Where you buy that pcs?

A pair of disposable rubber gloves would help ya'!!!

you should pick up a dell optiplex that has 4th Gen processor.
Definitely would of if I could but this was all that was there and it was a good deal.
