    I never got scammed, but I did get a pretty awesome deal a year or two back! I'd say it was a few months before the Quest 3 launched, I posted my Quest 2 with a few extras on marketplace. Ended up in a trade, I got a Ryzen 5 5600 & Rx 6700XT for it! The guy was just really interested in checking out VR & had upgraded away from these parts, so I ended up with a hella good deal on my end. Still using both today 👌

      @@forzaflyracer3473 Im a cheap bastard. 1- you can never beat a broken or used PC for $25. There is very little risk because even if it wont work from a bad mobo, powersupply, CPU, or RAM dismantelling will yield a minimum of 100% against that computer not working.
      Now if I buy from some douchebag on Facebook Market Place and pay $75 to $100. I would have to spend more time and energybon the part out its just not worth it.
      FACTS from doing craigslist/FB Market place/ Offer UP. There are no returns and people ghost others. When I use to do these inline market places. 70% of GPU’s I would get prior to my testing were bad and 50% would ghost me. On PC’s even if they do work, I have to waste my time and energy to get a hunk of junk to work minimizing my profits. That happens with atleast 50% of computers on these online market places.
      If you have access to Ewaste for $25 with no discretions. Why even waste time, energy and money with someone on these market places? I would rather pay a mark up on places like ebay with a money back guaranty if a seller ghosts me.

    That was very decent of you to help that person out. However, you're message of "Buyer Beware" is very real! Since I'm a builder, I've never purchased a used PC from anyone, but I have picked up some second-hand parts on rare occasions. In truth, I've experienced about 50 % luck going that route. Nonetheless, the sellers were gracious and refunded me the money.

Maybe it's just because it's different or a departure from the ordinary. You are right about buying used PC's. It seems like people are trying to scam way more now then they have in the past. It's unfortunately because of the anonymity of the internet. You can hide behind a user profile. It makes the rest of us look bad too.

    Glad to hear that you managed to get the system up and running again! That's exactly what I would have done as well - get the system up and running with what you have available.
    And as for that Dell Optiplex that you took the CPU out of... someone will probably buy that Dell even with the Pentium CPU, just as a general everyday office box.
    Yes, I too would avoid cases with no airflow. I had one for my PC and the CPU (R5 3600) was hitting 95 C with its stock cooler, so I swapped it out for a Phanteks Enthoo Pro (needed the HDD and ODD slots) and it worked wonders!

    To: DLM tech garage, I live in Northwest NJ and always have computers and computer parts lying around I try to sell or usually just forced to trash them. My oldest stuff is ASUS Z270 Formula with 1000w Antec Power supply's and EVGA RTX 780ti all the way up to the Latest Motherboards RAM and Processors, SSD's, and Power Supply's. I would put-em up for sale and usually get Sceptics or Scammers, mostly just looking and always asking questions, never buying. So if you need parts or whole computers I have laying around reply. you never know I might have something. (keep in mind everything has to go so free is part of the deal) Although shipping large PS's is on you, but I'll back it with a guarrentee! And as I said throwing this stuff out breaks my heart because everything I have, all of it works well.

    That was really kind of you to give the person in question a nice working PC. Sure a i7-6700 won't run Windows 11, but it's a hell of a lot better than a non-working machine.
    I'd personally try and get the system up and running, but again, I don't think it has the right spec given the VGA and DVI ports on the motherboard, as well as the dual PS2 ports. I would guess that this is around the 2nd - 4th gen Intel era, and definitely NOT 10th gen.
    edit: I was a bit off, LGA 1151 was 6th gen though 8th gen... still not 10th gen, which I think is LGA 1200.
    edit 2: 8:00 Pentium, yeah! Not worth the $250 especially with a broken GPU. This would be OK as a general everyday tasks PC, but not much else.

    • @T.Lspitz
      @T.Lspitz 27 днів тому +1

      Technically lga 1151 was 6th through 9th gen but would require a z370 / z390 to run a 8th or 9th gen cpu but 6th and 7th gen ran on z170 and z270 respectively. Although, back in those days there was a mod called the "coffeetime mod" that would allow you to run a 8th or 9th gen cpu on a z170 motherboard but required some research and tampering with the motherboard and cpu.

  • @hill2hell
    @hill2hell Місяць тому +2

    Damn that was a big profit for the scammer. $50 for the case, $20 for the used psu, $50 max for the mobo and cpu, and around $20 for mismatched ram, $30 for the boot drive. He woulda just used around $170 for all the parts. But most likely he just got those for free since someone might need to get some more space in their house, $80 profit and $250 profit + if he was paid to dispose of it. Because there are companies and offices that pay to dispose of the ewaste of offices that are closing down.

    I never buy PCs from Facebook, I've heard too many horror stories. Still, I used to rock that same PSU until this month. Ended up upgrading my graphics from a GT 710 to an RX 580 and wanted to be sure nothing would go wrong. Ended up making a mistake according to a friend of getting a 550 watt MSI PSU, but it's still working. I almost had a PC horror story the way the GPU was packaged though, the faceplate was bent, it wasn't properly in the protective plastic, and it was in it's box upside down. I was scared but it still works. I don't think I'm gonna by buying a GPU from Amazon again after that experience. But yeah, I saw that PSU in that "scam PC" and thought "this thing isn't gonna be pretty". Good PSU, just low powered and something cheap people get. But I could already tell that the main issue was the GPU before you started, I've had issues with PCs having bad GPUs in the past.

    Hi there! I can't say "I got scammed" per-say. but i bought a Z230 for about $60 barebones (No hard drive, no OS (Obviously) about a year ago. I knew from the git-go that i wanted to convert it to a gaming PC (i'm using it right now), anyway, I added a cheap wifi card ($10) & 8 gbs dr3 (It came with 8 already, so 16 GBs total.) I then got a Quadro 1000 video card. Now the problem was, it had a 300+ watt power supply in it. After about 3 months it went "poof", no power (It must've blown), ok? I replaced it with the same "used" power supply ($15, yes you get what you pay for, i know). Guess what happened 3 months later? It blew too....again! So (I was saying to myself the whole time "I should covert this to an ATX"), but lets see what happens until it went "poof". Ok, so i did! I got an ATX 750 watt power supply ($135!). Its running fine so far. Do you think ill have the same problem, do you think itll blow too?

    Talk about a scam... Personally, I haven't been scammed per say... But I did buy a pc, brand new, that stopped working 3 weeks after. Sent it back, seller asked if I wanted a refund or to get it fixed... Turned idiot for a moment and said, "fix it". the guys "fixed it" and returned it only for it to stop working in around 2 weeks. And the C19 hit and everything came to a full stop. Even deliveries, so the warranty went to hell. Had to try and have it fixed outside, changed the motherboard twice. The CPU once. Always ended up failing shortly after. So I just gave up on it. As of today I just have the case on my sister's house. The SSD and HDD I gave to her to use as storage units. Other inner pieces I gave to a guy nearby just as spare parts. So yeah...

    Back at Christmas 2023, I got scammed on Facebook Marketplace for $500, purchasing a RTX 4080 16G.
    I was planning on an upgrade, make my GF a gaming PC, and make my autistic son his first PC. Dad ate the 💩 sandwich and made sure I was the only one without, lol. Live and learn. 🤷‍♂️

    I think I am caught in a possible scam, however I can't figure it "the scam". 2x xbox controllers (XS/elite) listed faulty - a steal at £14, I have a tracking but no movement. I will moan to ebay soon...✌
